1. Denia is a town on the Spanish Costa Blanca . Last week an apartment block in the town centre
was evacuated because of a fire .
Residents on all six floors had to leave the building as flames and smoke billowed out of one of
the flats on the Avenidas Marquesado near to the foreigners office ..
The fire started in a first floor apartment and the owner of the apartment had no idea that it was
her flat which was the problem until neighbours started to bang on her door .Then she realised
that her estufa had in fact set fire to her tables and chairs .She then had the presence of mind to
turn off the gas bottle and take it out onto her balcony and cross over to the apartment of her
neighbour .
It was a local garage owner who raised the alarm and he also just happens to be a member of
the local Civil Protection squad .Fire engines rushed to the scene and evacuated the building
.An hour later everyone was able to return to their homes .
The flat which was burning suffered the loss of some furniture and some smoke damage .Other
apartments had minor smoke damage but there were no injuries .
