Denia on the Spanish Costa Blanca has some wonderful cycle tracks across the town .Now
however red lines have appeared along roads and they are supposed to be for cyslists
.However the cyclists don´t seem to know what they are for and neither do the motorists .That is
a dangerous cocktail and could end up with accidents happening .One expat actually asked if
the parallel red lines were for the donkeys .

It seems that the red lines were authorised and paid for by the European Union but others say
that they contravene European road safety directives . Now they all want to know just how much
of the 400,000 euros that they cost , was paid for by Denia council .At the moment there are no
signs but the Town Planning councillor says that soon 70 signs will be installed along the routes
                                   .

At the moment the only indication that these lanes are for bikes is a bike painted on the tarmac
.Another danger is that the red paint cannot be seen in the dark . Denia drivers have been
warned to be extra careful at night , just in case they suddenly come upon a cyclist in the middle
of the road and they are not sure why they are there .
