2. Hi! I am Larry the Light Bulb and I am going to
tell you the story of electricity and how I came
to be the light bulb.
3. Thomas
Edison
Let’s first talk about where I came from.
Thomas Edison invented me and kept
improving me until I could last a long time.
Just think about where would we be without
his invention. Now we use light everywhere.
4. Nikola Benjamin
Tesla Franklin
But before I came to be, somebody had to explore
electricity. Who would that person be? That would
be the great inventor, Benjamin Franklin! He made a
lightning rod to conduct electricity. Years later,
Nikola Tesla improved his invention. Without these
great inventors, I would not be here!
5. Have you ever combed your hair and
have it stick straight up in the air? If you
have, that is called static electricity.
All things are made of atoms. When you comb your
hair, the outer electrons are rubbed off the hair
atoms and attach to the atoms of the comb and this
is how static electricity is produced.
6. Electrons are negatively charged and are outside
the nucleus. Neutrons and protons are in the
nucleus of an atom. Neutrons do not have a charge
and protons have a positive charge. When atoms
lose electrons, they are said to be positively
charged such as when you are combing your hair.
When an atom gains electrons, they are negatively
charged.
