Food Intake A poor diet containing high levels of fat or sugar and few nutrients can cause kids to
gain weight quickly (Sallis & Glanz, 2006, pg. 100). Fast food, candy, and soft drinks are common
culprits. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that 32 percent of
adolescent girls and 52 percent of adolescent boys in the United States drink 24 ounces of soda – or

by saline treatment for 3–5 days. Rats were then fasted for 15 hours and then received either CCK–
8S at a dosage of .25 nmol/kg body weight or saline 5 minutes before the dark cycle and refeeding.

Abstract:
The aim of this practical work is to check the usual food intake during a weekday and weekend.
Total nutrient intake distributions and supplement consumption were informed. A group of
individuals selected between 22–37 years of age including both genders, and food diary and 24hr
recall method is used to measure the nutritional intake. Results obtained using SSPS software a
statistical significant difference (P value 0.05) seen between weekend and weekday.

What Makes Your Usual Food Intake?
My usual food intake is very random and sporadic. I have a very busy lifestyle and I often forget to
eat so when I do get hungry I usually grab the first thing that is around. These things tend to be
snack foods like granola bars or gold fish. If we have it I try to grab things that are a little healthier
such as cheese, fruit, or vegtables. The problem with this is that the healthier choices are more
expensive and don't stay fresh as long so it is hard to buy in bulk. I have two children so I almost
always have one good meal a day because I know it is important for them to have all the nutrients
that they need. I am very careful about portion sizes and making sure there are fruits and vegetables
especially unforunatly the fruits and vegtables are often fresh, but instead frozen or canned. Also, I
make sure to add grains, protein, and dairy into their diets. One of my families favorite foods are
cheesy mashed potatoes. However, we do not have this often because often we are already have
starches in pastas that we are haning, However, it is a nice treat once in awhile. The three dietary
guidelines that are emphasized by the Dietary Guidelines for Americans are to balance calories with
physical activity to manage weight, consume more of certain foods and nutrients such as fruits,
vegetables, whole grains, fat–free and low–fat dairy products, and seafood, and to consume fewer
foods with sodium (salt), saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, added sugars, and refined grains.

During my three day food intake I discovered that I only consumed 88 grams of protein. In these
three meals I spent almost 40 dollars and I was short almost 100 grams of protein required for my
weight. Four slices of pizza, and two double cheeseburgers produced the most protein. Oatmeal,
beer, and coffee only counted for less than 10 grams. All six items consumed over the 3 day stretch
accounted for carbohydrates. The items ranged from 10g to 100g of carbs. The only item with
enough lipids was the McDonald's oatmeal. The rest of the meals were relatively low. I need to
make better planning to include more lipids into my health plan.

According to the recommendations, I came in below the suggested amount for all three categories.
Carbohydrates are the body's primary source of energy. Without adequate carbohydrates, a person
may feel fatigued and weak, as the body looks elsewhere for sources of energy. A severe lack of
carbohydrates can deprive critical bodily organs the necessary energy to properly function. Lipids
are naturally occurring organic compounds that include fats and oils. An excess of some lipids can
increase the chances of certain health problems, lipids are vital nutrients to a healthy body. Lipids
are necessary for the absorption of fat soluble vitamins. A diet too low on lipids lowers the level of
good cholesterol, decreases the body's energy level and can disturb the body's formation of cells and
cell functions. During the three days of documented intake, my fiber consumption was only 24.3%
of the daily recommendation. Fiber helps promote proper digestive functions, helps lower
cholesterol, and helps in lowering the risk of diabetes and heart disease. My intake was too low
based on the recommended consumption, and according to the data, I should eat more foods that are
rich in fiber. These can be insoluble fiber sources like wheat bran and nuts or soluble fiber sources
like oats, beans, and apples. The only foods that provided fiber in my meals were the bagels.

One of America's top leading problems in the 21st century is caused by vast amounts of unhealthy
food which leads to not only obesity, but other health related issues such as diabetes and other heart
conditions. There are many fingers to be pointed at who to blame for this problem, whether it be

The Encyclopedia of Women's Health (2004) defines nutrition as the sum of processes involved
with the consumption of food. The human body depends on nutrients from carbohydrates, proteins,
fats, water, and fiber to function. Nutrition, exercise, and an appropriate diet work cohesively to
maintain that the body is working productively and at full capacity. This week's assignment required
the recording of daily food intakes for a span of three days. Data from each meal was inputted into
the IProfile food journal program, and reports were evaluated to determine how nutrition, diet, and

The body needs lipids to generate energy, but a surplus in lipid intake contributes to the
development of heart disease (Nall, 2011). The honey baked ham and chicken that my family
enjoyed did have a fatty film of saturated fat. I also tend to cook with milk and butter that is another
saturated fat. On top of my bread pudding on Saturday was a tablespoon scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Personal Intake
After reviewing foods that provide the body with protein, carbohydrates, and lipids, it was
imperative to review my own personal intakes. My personal intake for the duration of the study was
2011kcal with my recommended DRI at 2204 kcal. Most of my daily intakes were within the
recommended range, but there are areas within my diet that I need to adjust.
Protein
My protein DRI was to stay within 55–193g of which I consumed 72 g still within the recommend
range for my individual parameters. Proteins are essential for growth, tissue repair, and enzyme
protection (Cespedes, 2012). This project was eye–opening as I realized the need to manage and
balance what I eat with my physical activity to offset my consumption intakes.
Complete Protein
It is noteworthy that majority of the meals I consumed centered on complete proteins. Some meals
had both complete protein and incomplete protein such as rice and corn. A complete protein source

Food Intake: A Case Study
A healthy adult between the ages of 18–70 should consume about 1,000 mg of calcium per day.
Usually, people obtain their calcium from dairy foods such as milk, yogurt and cheese, which are
rich in calcium. Since, Dawn is a vegan she might have a harder time obtain her daily calcium. After
examining Dawns diets I was able to see that the only foods that are rich in calcium are her tofu and
her soymilk that she sometimes consumes. I also saw that most of the foods that she consumes are
not rich in calcium underneath I wrote down the approximately calcium in the foods that she
consumes.
 A cup of soymilk contains around 500 mg.

I disagree with Dawn because if a person is not obtaining the proper vitamins/minerals in their diet
they should obtain them from outside sources. Since, Dawns is a vegan most of her food intake
might be poor in vitamins and minerals. Some of the benefits of taking these supplements are:
improving the bodies defenses, reduces disease risks, boosting energy and it helps a person acquire
the necessary nutrients that sometimes our diet does not achieve. If a person does not consume the
proper amount of nutrient they might be at risk of a low immune system. Also not consuming the
proper amount of vitamins and minerals may lead to chronic diseases such as heart disease,
osteoporosis and some cancers. Most physicians recommend everyone to take these supplements
because a lot of people are not able to obtain their nutrient from their diet. I believe that Dawn
should consider taking Vitamins/ minerals because since she only eats plant origin foods. Since,
Dawn is a vegan she is not able to obtain the vitamin B12 because this vitamin is only found in
animals. So it would be good for her to take this vitamin supplement to expose her body to this

Factors That Affect The Food Intake Lose Weight
Obesity rates in America continue to raise since the 1980's. Typically most Americans will start to
see their weight increase into adulthood and rapidly increase after age 40 (Roberts, 2005).
Numerous diet plans offer different suggestions on how best to address a person's food intake lose
weight. One such method is to use the Glycemic Index as a guide to making healthier food choices.
I present an executive summary of my findings based the Glycemic Index and its moderate evidence
of implications in the management obesity in metabolically healthy adults. As food is consumed and
passes through the gastrointestinal tract the body releases specific enzymes, peptides, and hormones
to breakdown the food (chyme), absorb the nutrients, and get the nutrients to tissues which need
them. This process occurs quickly, within 30 minutes of the chyme entering the small intestines.
One hormone of particular interest is insulin, which regulates the body's blood glucose levels. When
blood glucose levels are high, after consuming a meal, the pancreas will release insulin from its

purpose of this assignment is to track and display the food choices we make and the way we eat

If a person constantly eats too little proteins they can become susceptible to disease, it can cause a
person to develop anemia, dry skin can develop and in women their bones can become brittle. If a
person does not have enough carbohydrates in their diet they can develop malnutrition which is also
called lack of calories. If a person does not have enough lipids in their diet it can also cause serious
health risks. Fat provides nutrients for the body and supports the body's basic function. Lack of this
macronutrient can cause problems with a person's immune system, skin and vision. My fiber intake
does not meet the requirements of the recommendation for me as calculated in the iProfile website
100% because my intake was way too low. My recommended intake for fiber was 64g–112g and my
intake was only 44g. My three day intake of food did not meet the minimum number of servings of
foods from each fiber containing groups. Both fruits and vegetables fell short of the recommended
intake that was required of me. The foods that provided the most fiber in my days' meals were salad,
pizza, and corn flakes. The foods that provided the least amount of fiber were eggs. Trends in my

Food Intake According to my three–day food diary report, I demonstrated a diet pattern that truly
lacks a healthy balance of vital nutrients. First of all, my kilocalorie intake nearly quadrupled that of
my dietary reference intake (DRI) range. Secondly, my total lipids reported as considered within my
DRI range. However, it was at the highest allowable percentage. Therefore, had it been one percent
higher, it would have been above my recommended dietary reference intake. Third of all, my
carbohydrate intake revealed drastically surpassed my DRI (although it was within my DRI range,
when compared to my total fat and protein amounts, my carbohydrate percentage displayed
immensely greater than the others). Finally, the results of my protein intake were extremely low
compared to my suggested DRI range. In fact, the percentage was at the lowest allowed for my
protein DRI, and was dangerously low in comparison to my total lipid and carbohydrate

disease. The fiber containing groups that fell short of the recommended intake were fruits and
vegetables. The amount of fruits I took in was lower than the vegetable intake. The specific foods
that provided the most fiber in my meals were the vegetables and the oatmeal.
Dietary Modifications The changes that I would make to increase the fiber in my diet, would be to
