Advantages Of Frugal Innovation
Introduction
There is a growing need for simple, cost efficient, commercially viable technology solutions for
complex or day to day problems to turn the restrictions and constraints into advantage. Frugal
innovation is any innovation which works around the constraints financial or otherwise to either
increase efficiency of a process or service or effectively lower costs for an organisation or section of
people.
Frugal which is also known as 'Jugaad' innovation works around the concept of creation of products
or services which are extremely cost efficient ,uses the resources to the maximum limit and makes
use of new age technologies which reduces the cost in the entire process of business. Frugally
innovated products are today being used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
but can span across diverse fields. There are variety of factors that favours Frugal or as it is said
'Jugaad' innovations in India
Every day , there are new platforms of technology like cloud computing that are incoming, which
are reducing cost of production, making it a lot more easier for the growth of frugal innovation
With the poor growth rate in the developed nations, price has become one of the major factors in
everyday increasing demands for low cost products which are good enough in getting the task done
In India there is abundance of people with the frugal bend of mind, The presence of 'Jugaad' attitude
in people means there is no dearth of local innovators which would use all the possible means in
terms of low cost resources, technology to develop new products with the frugal–centric approach
The presence of middle class in large number in India serves as a high motivation factor for
development of frugal innovation as there is already a ready–made market for products which are
cost efficient and

Farmer Giles Hero
Well the first topic I will be talking about whether not Farmer Giles of Ham is a Hero to me . In my
opinion Farmer Giles is a hero because his town was attacked by a hopeless giant . That giant just
wanted to find his home so his copper pot does not burn . But instead he got shot by a blunderbuss .
A Blunderbuss is a short range shotgun . Ok let get back on track . So then later the giant thought it
was a stinking dragonfly . So then he turned back and start running back to his big giant mommy .
So after that commotion the town greeted him with delight of honor . Even a " smart " king gave
him a generation sword that has been called tailbiter . So the " smart " king gave him that as gift for
defending the kingdom own by the " smart " king ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So he made a fake promise to go home and relax the deal was to give all his treasure to the people of
Ham . Then several days later Gile went to his cave to get his treasure then they argued about what
happens / happened to the deal how many there is and why he did not come so then Farmer Gile
won the argument and then the dragon became his slave and carried all the treasure . Then Farmer
Gile stood up to the king and then Giles became kings / a king / the king but Farmer Gile does not
die he becomes king and Beowulf dies . My real life hero is Fouseytube but he is not like Beowulf
because Beowulf has an and FouseyTube has a buffed . The reason why i picked FouseyTube is
because he is my role model . His quotes always make me think what going to happen next , who
am I , why am I here , am I the chosen one , these sort of thing help me calm and smooth . One of
his quote is green tea is green tea if it's green tea . It means / meant be yourself don't try to be
someone else or You should stop making excuses , complaining about it , worrying if u can , just

Building Online Evaluation System For The Athens Farmers...
First solution is building online evaluation system. Sometimes, lacking consumer service does not
means the vendors don't want to improve their services. The reason is the vendors cannot receive
advices from their consumers. Building online evaluation system can let consumers give some
feedback or vote for the vendors. The Athens Farmers market manager can build an evaluation
system on their website. Every consumers can go to the website and leave some feedbacks for the
vendors. Moreover, the consumers for the Athens farmers market can give a store for the vendors
such as one until 10. Consumers or managers can use the store to judge the vendors provide good
consumer services or not. The vendor who got highest store can get some reward from the Athens
farmers market. For example, the Athens farmers market give a poster for the best vendor. In the end
of year, the Athens farmers market give a decoration for the vendor who got most times reward. The
poster can help vendors attract consumer. On the other hand, it can help vendors improve their
profits. Consumers can also know which vendors provided bad consumer services. It will help
consumers to choose vendors. The income for the vendors will be affect by this evaluation system.
This solution can make vendors have passion to improve their consumer services, and it can help
vendors to know some judgements from their consumers.
Belonging to quality of people's life increasingly, people have high standard for customer service

Farmer Market Observation
During my visit to Crocker Galleria farmer's market, I was amaze how I never knew that there was a
farmer's market in downtown San Francisco held every thursday and I work downtown and hang out
there eating at food places which were unhealthy, so I am glad I was able to discover this farmer's
market. As I walked around each station that had many variety of fruits, vegetables, nuts, fish,
honey, etc available for anybody to view, to buy and ask questions to the farmers about their
products and also having samples of the food they grown, where I tasted many foods which was
delicious and for the first time I tasted a pomegranate fruit rather than the juice brand, so it was a
unique experience from me to see farmer's eager to let people taste ... Show more content on

In the textbook on page 18 it has a similar connection with organic food and how experts like the
watchdog Environmental working group thinks the government is too liberal when it comes to the
amount of levels of allowable pesticides to foods. In an article called "Grocery store vs. Farmer's
market" they question whether buying local is better than grocery store and got a response from
Lottie Thacker a shopper who said "I've been buying from these people for quite a long time so it's
cheaper,"(livewellnetwork.com). A similar correlation from this quote, would be from a YouTube
video called Farmer's Market vs. Supermarket where they also wanted to see if it is better to shop at
farmer's market or a Supermarket when it comes down to price and what they found out that it doing
make a difference. In conclusion I will seriously consider to make an effort to shop for my produce
at a farmer's market because as I was comparing prices, it's cheaper which is good for me to save
money and also to me the produce look better and taste better than Supermarket

Farmers of the late 1800's: Changing the Shape of American...
The period between 1870 and 1900 was a time to change politics. The country was for once free
from war and was united as one nation. However, as these decades passed by, the American farmer
found it harder to live comfortably. Crops such as cotton and wheat, once the cash crop of
agriculture, were selling at prices so low that it was nearly impossible for farmers to make a profit.
Improvements in transportation allowed larger competitors to sell more easily and more cheaply,
making it harder for American yeoman farmers to sell their crops. Finally, years of drought in the
Midwest and the fall of business in the 1890s devastated the farming community. Most notably, the
Populist Party arose to fight what farmers saw as the issues affecting ... Show more content on

Beginning in 1871, several states passed laws controlling railroad freight. The railroads fought the
Granger Laws, in federal court, where they were ruled unconstitutional. The railroads regularly used
rebates and drawbacks to help win the business of large shippers, and made up this loss in profit by
increasing the cost to smaller shippers such as farmers. As a result, many farmers, already hurt by
the depression in agriculture, were ruined. These farmers were hurt by the unfair practices of the
railroad enterprise.
Despite the flushed predictions of prosperity that had lured new settlers to the plains, the reality was
more difficult. The farmers claimed that they did not have enough land, money, and transportation
(Doc C). The farmers went into in a never ending cycle if they did not have a good harvest. As
Booker Washington explains the farmers had no money so they had to borrow money from the
banks which charged 12 to 30 percent interest. The interest the farmers were hit with was nearly
impossible to repay so they had to mortgage everything and if the mortgage wasn't paid the land was
foreclosure which led the yeomen to become tenant farmers (Doc B). With periods of drought
growing good crops was hard. Leading Economic Sectors shows how the farmers predicament of
not being able to make a very

The Meaning Of Art
For many individuals collecting and viewing art might be thought of as a favorite hobby or past
time. Individuals might be seen at a local art museum just gazing at a piece of art, exhibiting almost
signs of being in a trance of deep thought as one stands front and center, not moving for what seems
to be an endless amount of time. The reason for such an appreciation for art, might be what it
represents. Lisa Marder writes, "Art can be thought of as a symbol of what it means to be human,
manifested in physical form for others to see and interpret. It can serve as a symbol for something
that is tangible, or for a thought, an emotion, a feeling, or a concept. Through peaceful means, it can
convey the full spectrum of the human experience." (Marder, 2017, para. 28). Meaning, art really
has the ability to express many things and perspectives, which can also be represented in various
shapes, sizes, and forms such as, drawings, sculptures, paintings, etc. With that being said, art is not
only about the message that is being conveyed, but also a significance placed upon how the message
is conveyed. There is a lot of thought and precision that goes into creating such art, that will enhance
the message being conveyed; form and composition, material and technique, the lines, color, and
texture, space and perspective, and proportion and scale. It is that same thought and precision that
went into the 1941 creation of John Steuart Curry's, "Our Good Earth" (Kevernacular, 2014). The

The Pros And Cons Of Entitlement Theory
Basically Sen (1981), founded Entitlement theory on the assumption that the system under
consideration is an economy with private ownership and exchange in form of trade, exchange
between people and production and between man and nature. However, he also accepted social
benefits as entitlement relations. The theory is useful to explain poverty effects for different people
at household level with disaggregation of differences among the group in the population and people
even at the same household (Lenhardt, 2013). Hence, analysis using this theory implicates resources
allocation between households. Remittances being one external resources can have effects in the
final analysis using Entitlement Theory.
Ideally, there are strong linkages between poverty and environment also explicated in the
Entitlement Theory of poverty. Entitlement can be defined as collective outcome of environmental
resources package that the human capital used to produce, own and have power on that particular
resource as an individual or as a member of a given community or economic group. All have ability
to use those resources package ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It ignores cultural issues, which are similarly important with the legal system. However, entitlement
approach needs adjusting to new dynamics of contemporary analysis of poverty (Rubin, 2009).
In spite of those criticisms, the theory can be useful for analysing poverty and remittances especially
rural poverty since remittances are believed to be one of issues influencing entitlement and
ownership. Remittances can be used to buy assets. By owning assets, especially productive assets, it
increases chances for a individual or household to create wealth and it is widely agreed to be a
crucial factor in escaping and reduce chances to be trapped into poverty (Miller et. al.,

Federal Marketing Order On Tart Cherries
With recent controversy over the Federal Marketing Order on Tart Cherries, some feel it should be
changed or eliminated. The topic has gone viral from a Facebook post generating an astonishing
40,000 shares. The farmer, who was outraged with the order, made it seem as though he had to
destroy the oversupply of cherries. Was this even the case? Did he falsify his information? One thing
that's an obvious fact is that the importation of foreign cherries needs to be regulated, especially if
domestic cherries continue to be.
With the recent controversy over the Federal Marketing Order an article has been written by Jennifer
Kiel, an editor for www.FarmProgress.com it explains the difficulties of farming. She has written
numerous articles in relation to the Cherry industry. Therefore, she has a keen sense for the topic.
The publisher is News Watch; the genre is an article within a magazine. The intended audience is
farmers, processors, and general public. The main point is the problem is what is wrong with the
cherry industry. She explains the difficulties of farmers and how many don't want to go into farming
in the future. The purpose is to inform. The main reasons why she wants to inform the reader is so
reader can understand the struggle of modern–day cherry farms. The evidence she used is a first–
account viewpoint of a farmer and he explained how hard it has become. He talks about the
restriction and the pros/cons of it. She explains viewpoints of both sides of the

Through Growing Up On A Family Farm In A Rural Community
Through growing up on a family farm in a rural community I have been fortunate enough to fall in
love with the agriculture sector. In discovering my passion for agriculture I have pursued a career as
a Corn Specialist for AgriGold, of which we will be discussing throughout this essay. AgriGold is a
company within the Agricultural Sector that in the past had solely focused on selling seed corn, but
as we will discuss later they now offer soybeans and a technology platform. They are the 3rd largest
seed corn company in the United States and their parent company is AgReliant Genetics located in
Westfield, IN.
Our main focus will not be on AgriGold as a brand, but on one of their most recent advertisements.

For the simple fact that you aren't sending post–cards out to everyone, you are also able to create the
overall effectiveness of the advertisement. The overall effectiveness will be benefited due to the fact
that you will be advertising only to the potential customers of your market.
When you look at the product that is being advertised by AgriGold, you have to consider a few
different things when determining where it lies exactly within its life cycle. When you consider the
product to be seed corn itself, the product has reached maturity and is beginning to enter the
declining stage. What is meant by this is the fact that seed corn solely as a product has been sold for
centuries and has reached its maximum penetration point within the market (given that people
continue with their traditional crop–rotation strategies). Yet, I said that it is beginning to enter into
the declining stage. When I say that seed corn is beginning to enter the declining stage I am referring
to the fact that there is only a limited amount of land available to plant. As the populations grow,
there is less land that is used for agricultural purposes, which ultimately correlates into declining
demand for seed corn. While seed corn will always remain a very important and high value product,

The Locavore 's Dilemma By Christophe Pelletire
How would you feel about only eating the food that is 100 miles within the distance that you live?
Would you be able to do it every single day? Within 100 miles of where you currently living, do you
have access to fresh meat products, seafood, dairy products, fresh fruit, and vegetables products? If
you drink coffee, are coffee beans readily available within that area? What about chocolate or coco,
are coco beans grown nearby? Are you in an area where corn and wheat are grown where you can
produce all the carbohydrates like cereal, bread, and pastries that you consume regularly? What
about sugar cane or sugar beats, the main sources of sugar used in soda, candy, and other sweet
products? Locavores are people who only eat local food that is grown within a 100 miles from
where they live. What effect does this have on people who come to visit and have to eat food that is
only local food? In the article "The Locavore's Dilemma," author Christophe Pelletire's skillful
presentation of his ethos overshadows his less successful portrayal of pathos for locavores and logos
concerning the topic about locavores. Pelletire shows his pathos for the quality of food, shows ethos
by giving the readers many examples of the types of resources people would lose, and shows his
logos by providing his story with data he collected while physically living in Vancouver. In the
article, the author is most successful in his presentation of the appeal of ethos, due to all the
information he can give

Implementing A Nutrition Education Component On The Double...
Project design: This project seeks to implement a nutrition education component in the Double Up
Food Bucks program at the Oakland County Farmer Market The first step in achieving the goal of
increasing the purchase and consumption of SNAP beneficiaries in Oakland County is to increase
the participation rates of the DUBF program. A good way to accomplish this is through promotion.
Promoting the the DUFB program and what is has to offer will increase awareness and educate
participants of the benefits they are able to receive when they shop at the farmers market. Starting
two months prior to the beginning of the farmers market season, the community dietitian will have
developed numerous promotional advertisements . With the help of an assistant, the advertisements
will be sent out and displayed at local businesses, community centers, government agencies and
libraries within Oakland County. Promotional marketing types will include newsletters, flyers,
brochures, and websites. Each advertisement material will include information about the farmers
market, such as day and time of operation and location of market, as well as information on the
DUFB program, the SNAP incentives offered, and benefits of participating. Additionally, the
marketing material will promote the opportunity of nutrition education and ability to speak with a
RD to answer any questions they may have. Newsletters will be sent out local residents homes,
especially those in close proximity of the Oakland

Analysis Of I Am A Farmer By Aika Yamashiro
Aiko Yamashiro is a poet, English major, and the author of "Values of Hawai'i 2: Ancestral Roots,
Oceanic Views" which she published on May 10th, 2017. She compiled stories relating to the values
of Hawaii, including the poem "I am a Farmer" by U'ilani Hideko Kalawe O Kou Ola Ana Kokaua
Pulama Arasato. Arasato writes "I am a farmer" in the first–person perspective; "You should stop
and listen, the 'aina is trying to speak." Reinforces that Arasato is explaining a situation to everyone
about the lands of Hawaii. Arasato's purpose in "I am a Farmer" is to illustrate events that influenced
Hawai'i land. From ancient Hawaiian times, during the time the Ali'i ruled, to modern day Hawaii,
the land in which generations were promised, slowly disappeared as hungry real estate people
bought it up. Infuriating, feeling betrayed, and being voided of their land brings darkness to the
farmers and the reason why Arasato creates this poem to explain the history of farmers suffering. I
agree with Arasato's claim that the farming land was wrongfully taken and deserves to be given back
to those who rightfully own them because Hawaii is a place of fertility and where farmers thrive to
grow food for its people. It's been a heritage for generations and if people take care of the land, the
land will surely provide back. Therefore, the poem "I am a Farmer" explains the history of farming
in Hawaii by relating to the past, explaining the challenges faced, and what the future of farming can
be if the

The At The Statesboro Main Street Farmers Market From 10
On September 3, 2016, I was given the opportunity to serve at The Statesboro Main Street Farmers
Market from 10:00am until 1:00pm. This event is open to the public from April to November every
Saturday from 9:30am–12:30pm beside the Bulloch County Courthouse and Sea Island Bank. Here
you will find many local vendors selling their own produce. This event is not limited to produce as
you will also find locals selling jewelry, baked goods, crafts, and my personal favorite, coffee. Some
locally owned stores other than farmers bring their business to the market such as Three Tree Coffee
Roasters, Sugar Magnolia, Cork's Kettle Corn, B&G Honey Farm, etc. With a small town feel, this
charming location is perfect for the venue at hand.
What was your role at the event?
Upon arrival, I went to the information vendor located in the middle of the Farmers Market where I
was greeted by other volunteers and Melanie Sparrow, who told me my responsibilites for the
upcoming hours. My first duty was to hand out various advertisements for the upcoming GreenFest
which will be held October 1st, 2016, across the street from the Farmers Market. The GreenFest is
held by Georgia Southern's Center for Sustainability. The goal of this event is to teach people about
green living and what it entails. Much like the Farmers Market, there will be live music, vendors,
and workshops. Aside from passing out ads, I also helped keep attendance of everyone in the market
by taking a count every 30 minutes or so.

The Agricultural Crisis by Wendell Berry Essay example
The Agricultural Crisis by Wendell Berry
In this novel by Wendell Berry, Berry's describes in his thesis that modern culture is destroying the
agricultural culture. He feels that technology is seen as the easy way to produce food faster and
more efficiently. With this modern way of farming comes the idea that hard work is not needed to
make a living. The goal is comfort and leisure. Berry feels that this is the reason for the deterioration
of the agricultural culture. He believes that hard work and pride in workmanship is more important
than material goods and money. This was by no means a perfect society. The people had often been
violent wand wasteful in the use of land of each other. Its present ills have already taken root in it. ...

They generally are not interested in anything that cannot be reached by automobile on a good road.
Some of the farmer's children will be able to afford to stay on the farm. Perhaps even fewer will
wish to do so, for it will cost too much, require too much work and worry, and it is hardly a
fashionable ambition.
Another argument that Berry proposes is the connection between the "modernization" of agricultural
techniques and the disintegration of the culture, as well as the communities of farming and the
consequent disintegration of structures of urban life. What we called agriculture progress has
involved the forcible displacement of millions of people. An example of modernization can be seen
through the idea of "Get big or get out." It's a policy that says that you have to become more modern
through change and be competitive in order to keep up with the other competitors. If not, than you
must get of what you are doing. This can be used through a comparison of communist using military
force in order to remove those who refuse to follow their demand for change, and the government
using their economic power to force farmers to improve their farming techniques. In a "Free
Market" the most successful becomes the richest. To those who could not

The Farmers Of The United States
Before I entered this class, I took local farmers for granted. I thought all the produce in our
supermarkets was from local farmers, and I thought that green markets were just another place to
buy produce. This semester has opened my eyes to the issues surrounding the food we eat. Before
the 1870's canning industry, food was not shipped across the United Sates; it was consumed locally.
Back then the local farmer's had a market; with the grit in their teeth, soiled hands and pants, and
their backs to the sun, the farmer knew that if they grew a certain amount of food they could take it
to market and sell it for a profit. Though farmers could be content, they also knew that from every
harvest a portion of crop would spoil before it reached ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today, when I walk into a grocery stores such as Shop Rite or Path Mart, the whole store smells like
a factory. I noticed what Joan Gussow was talking about when she illustrated that we need to make
it a trend to pay attention to where our food comes from. When I saw products in the super market
that were from the Dominican Republic, I thought to myself, these Dominicans work really hard to
ship us all these tasty fruits. The life of a farmer must pay well. Most people picture the average
Dominican worker on the farm, working the land, and having a cup of coffee while the are watching
their little babies run around. The reality of the situation is that Dominican workers are only paid a
few dollars a day; their country is starving because they are exporting their resources to other
countries, instead of consuming it themselves. Now my eyes are open to how much the food supply
has not changed since Gussow wrote, "A modest proposal", in 1985. On a positive note, intellectual
city dwellers are getting organized and advocating to protect the local farmer by educating the
average consumer to keep these farmers in mind before he/she makes their purchase at the grocery
store In this class, I learned a dirty little secret that most people do not know. I learned that small
local farmer's do not retire, which in today's economy does not make sense. There are

Monsanto White Gold Pet Child
Webster's Dictionary definition of profit is "the compensation accruing to entrepreneurs for the
assumption of risk in business enterprise as distinguished from wages or rent." Businesses run off of
risk in order to make huge amounts of money. They trust the consumers to buy their products or
services. They trust their suppliers with materials they need. They also trust the efficiency of their
production line. Some businesses are so obsessed with the profits they gain that many people's lives
are put at risk. The agricultural industry, Monsanto, does a great job at creating genetically modified

However, in Burkina Faso, this is not the case. In the film "White Gold, Organic Dreams [Pet

situation. A farmer "It was promised that the yield would increase. In the beginning it increased,
soon after it collapsed. It was promised that insects would be fought. But they developed a tolerance
after a short time. And so on..."(Organic Dreams,1:25) This company promises many things to these
poor farmers. One thing the farmers don't realize is that there is no diversity within the seeds that
allow the seed to develop it's own defenses or success rate. Diversity allows the strongest seed to
reproduce and make more seeds with even stronger characteristics. GMOs try to do this artificially
which lead to their downfall every time. Suppose a farmer learned this and decides not to purchase
any more of these seeds, Professor Zongo also stated that, "If a farmer doesn't follow the flow and
refuses to adapt the GMOs, they are cut from fertilizers and can't sell their products."(Organic

Food : My Value Of Food In My Life
Throughout my life, my mother would always start cooking something in the kitchen that my sisters
and I raise our noses really high. When I was turning in my teens, my friends would show me new
foods that would buy from gas stations or local markets. While I sit back and munch on the food that
I was given from my friends, I would think would the money they spent towards this food be
different from others, or whether these "food" would taste better but not be great for your food plan.
My decisions about food are what foods to decide to eat for yourself and your families, whether
using store bought/ hand grown foods, and how to be able to prepare your food to taste amazing.
While my family is from Africa, they love to eat meat, but for myself, I get really picky of what
meat I am putting in my mouth that would satisfy my food plan. When I was a little kid I had
thousands of foods to choose from and eat since I really didn't like the sour or chewy things in my
life I gave up on it and ran towards unhealthy foods. In other words, I think of food as " pretty much
an abstract idea – something they do not know or imagine – until it appears on the grocery shelf or
on the table (Berry,4)." This would explain how poorly I was to my grandma when I tried working
on her farm and eat the hand forced.

Essay on The Corrupt Bargain
When Andrew Jackson was denied presidency in 1824 due to "the corrupt bargain" between John
Quincy Adams and Henry Clay, he was furious at the lack of democracy in the election system. He
became determined to institute a new age of genuine democracy in America where the voice of the
people wouldim being monarchal, Andrew Jackson was a very democratic president evidenced by
his drive to give the people more representation and also his attempted transfer of power from the
few to the many. To begin, Andrew Jackson was determined to get the people more representation in
all branches of government. This was most likely because of the corrupt bargain that had so angered
him due to the lack of democracy in the presidential election. ... Show more content on

These statistics show Jefferson's influence on many of the states in America which granted their
people direct representation by allowing them to choose their own electoral candidates. Moreover,
Andrew Jackson greatly facilitated the transfer of power from "the few" to "the many" in the US. In
Jackson's Bank Veto Message to Congress in July of 1832, he stated that the rich were monopolizing
the country's domestic exchange by "bending the acts of government to their selfish purposes."
(Document 4). Jackson argued that with so much money and power, the corrupt rich were
influencing the government to allow them domination over the many people who could not match
their authority. The few, selfish rich citizens felt no duty or responsibility to their country so they
committed great evils to promote their own status. For this reason, Jackson wanted the Bank of the
United States vetoed so that this corruption could be ended at once and the rich would not be able to
use the Bank for their egotistic intents. The BUS had been standing since Alexander Hamilton
proposed it in the early 1800s, so it was outlandish for Jackson to propose its veto, but he was truly
doing it for the people. The following day after Jackson's message, Daniel Webster issued a reply to
it. In his reply, Webster claimed that Jackson was controlling the poor and arousing them against the
rich (Document 5). While this does seem like an immoral action for one to

Implementation And Reporting For Hedge Accounting Essay
Research Memorandum
To: CEO, Thomas Foods
From:
Date: December 12, 2015
RE: Implementation and Reporting for Hedge Accounting
Facts:
Thomas Foods wishes to insulate the company from the financial blow of large increases in the
prices of produce from local farmers. The main factor that would cause this unexpected change in
price that Thomas Foods should be concerned with is the possible fluctuation of weather conditions.
Thomas Foods is interested in determining whether or not hedge accounting would be the best
solution to protect the company's operating income. If the company elects to implement a hedge
accounting system, the Controller of the company must be informed of the accounting treatments
involved when dealing with cash flow and fair value hedge accounting, the two most common forms
of hedge accounting.
Issues:
1. Will implementing a hedging strategy help to alleviate the risks of price increases and benefit
Thomas Foods financially when it comes to purchasing produce from local farmers?
2. Which hedge accounting strategy or alternative method will be most beneficial to Thomas Foods
and ensure minimal loss in operating income?
3. How can the accounting treatments of the newly implemented strategy be best explained to the
Controller of Thomas Foods?
Conclusions:
1. Hedge accounting strategies are best implemented when dealing with transactions from the
original source. In this particular situation, the local farmer would be considered the original source
because he

Reflection Of The Film 'Corner In Wheat'
Corner in Wheat Reflection Paper Corner in Wheat is a film created by D.W. Griffith in 1909. The
film focuses on the three divisions of the wheat market, which was rare at the time because most
films during the early twentieth century focused on people. The first division showcases the farmers
who grow the wheat. The next division portrays the Wheat King, a wealthy businessman who
controls the wheat market. The last division follows the bakery, the place that distributes the wheat,
and the consumers who purchase the bread that is made from the wheat. The film has a variety of
elements within the shots of the film. The depth of field is one of the elements that can be viewed in
Corner in Wheat. One of the last shots in the film is the farmer sprinkling wheat on the field. This
shot shows how the camera moves from background to the front ground, which presents deep space.
The farmer is shown walking from a distance sprinkling the wheat, eventually, as he continues
walking he moves closer to the camera as he goes about his business. The depth of the field of the
farmer's field is different than the depth of field in the grain elevator. D.W. Griffin emphasizes space
with the background because of the layout which, directly extends straight back to a door, making
this shot have deep space. Moreover, the movement of the people goes left to right. The staircase is
on the left and stands near the hole where the wheat is falling into the hole and the people are told to

Toward A Recovery Of Nineteenth Century Farming Handbooks...
Toward a Recovery of Nineteenth Century Farming Handbooks
While researching texts written about nineteenth century farming, I found a few authors who
published books about the literature of nineteenth century farming, particularly agricultural journals,
newspapers, pamphlets, and brochures. These authors often placed the farming literature they were
studying into an historical context by discussing the important events in agriculture of the year in
which the literature was published (see Demaree, for example). However, while these authors
discuss journals, newspapers, pamphlets, and brochures, I could not find much discussion about
another important source of farming knowledge: farming handbooks. My goal in this paper is to
bring this source into the agricultural literature discussion by connecting three agricultural
handbooks from the nineteenth century with nineteenth century agricultural history.
To achieve this goal, I have organized my paper into four main sections, two of which have sub–
sections. In the first section, I provide an account of three important events in nineteenth century
agricultural history: population and technological changes, the distribution of scientific new
knowledge, and farming's influence on education. In the second section, I discuss three nineteenth
century farming handbooks in connection with the important events described in the first section. I
end my paper with a third section that offers research questions that could be answered in

Essay On Paul Farmer As A Hero In Mountains Beyond Mountains
When someone imagines a hero they usually think of a person that has superpowers or a famous
person that made an impact on society and mass amount of people. But a hero can be as simple as
someone who helps others and in the eyes of others is looked up to. In Mountains Beyond
Mountains by Tracy Kidder, Paul Farmer a doctor, is this hero. His beliefs and ideas impacts the
lives of many and his actions help many people around him. His commitment to the "long defeat" is
what helps Farmer in his decision making to treat patients and win.
Throughout his time helping others Farmers always refers to this term "long defeat." This term
means that there might be a impossible goal that is trying to be reached but it is wrong to give up or
should not be given up so easily. It is easy to let it go and face the facts the facts that nothing can be
done but one should not do this just because they want to "win."
This type of thinking and commitment to "long defeat" is what separated Farmer from the rest of the
doctors in that area. Since he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

dying. What Farmer is doing is doing is that he is trying his best to help these people out. The goal
set is to help this country out that means every single person. Since this is an impossible goal many
gave up and blame others. Famer says "I have fought the long defeat and brought other people on to
fight the long defeat, and I'm not going to stop because we keep losing. Now I actually think
sometimes we may win" ( Kidder .....) What he is saying is that since he is not going to get this goal
of heling others that is concerted a loss. But in fact, that is wrong they win in this situation because
they are helping others who need it. Slowly they will get to their goal but for right now they win
because even if one person is aided that's a

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Being A Farmer
This article will provide information of what being a farmer is, what is needed to become one, a
common routine and some positive and negative facts of this profession.
A farmer is a person who owns a farm and or takes care of it . Farmers normally perform two kinds
of professional activities: one is related with animals and the other with plants. The first one
includes all the process of breeding livestock, such as cattle, sheep, pig and goats. On the other hand
we have the work of agriculture; it consists on the growing of different kinds of plants for human or
animal consumption and products used for the development of human life. Nowadays these two
activities can be performed separately, and that is why this article is going to be focused only on the

Being in constant contact with nature is one of the most common statements made by different
farmers. Seeing a deer crossing happily through the fields is beautiful to see and it is not within
reach of other jobs. In addition to this, it is your responsibility to choose when and how you want to
work, giving you freedom for working. Contrary to popular belief, farmers are required to develop
their creativity as they can try to perform new techniques of sowing, for example, or, they can
develop new devices to improve their work. Another important aspect is that your work is going to
be different through the years because every harvest is going to be different from the previous one.
Becoming a farmer will teach a lot of new things, not only about plants and crops, but also you are
likely to become a weather forecast. For example if the clouds of the sky look like stone pavement it
is very possible that the next day is going to rain. Consuming your own harvest is one of the most
rewarding experiences and the taste of your own production is not going to taste the same as the

Monsanto's Lawsuits Analysis
Do you think it's fair that one farmer had to settle (say he was guilty) because that was cheaper than
trying to fight Monsanto's lawsuits? Why or why not? The fact that the farmer had to settle because
he couldn't afford fighting the lawsuit is extremely unfair. However, I don't think it is a good
decision. Even thought defeating Mansanto in court is almost impossible, settling and saying that
I'm guilty is not an alternative if I were in his place. Not because I believe in justice, but because I
believe that our fight against this kind of big companies will not be easy, and if we give up so easily

some people simply don't have it. And that's one of the reasons that we need changes at the policy

Character Analysis Of Interstellar
Interstellar Character Development: Cooper
Interstellar is more than the average science fiction movie. This cinematic masterpiece deals with
real life issues that we are facing today, such as world hunger across different parts of our world,
and pollution across our individual nation.
The storyline is simple, but so complex, all at the same time. According to All Movie, a site often
used for the analyzation of cinematic treasures, "Interstellar begins on Earth in the distant future, as
Mother Nature is waging war on humanity. Famine is widespread, and all of mankind's resources are
now dedicated to farming in a desperate fight for survival." The main character, an educated farmer
with a love for space travel, has a complex within himself and thus he presents a great opportunity
to analyze and discuss character development. Cooper, the name of one of the most natural, human
characters in the entire plot line of Interstellar, goes on a journey of ups and downs to be a hero once
again. (Buchanan, Jason. "Synopsis, Characteristics, Moods, Themes and Related.") Cooper goes
from a simple farmer with a care free lifestyle, wishing the best for his children, to now leading a
group of astronauts into space on mankind's last chance for survival.
After doing research there are many things about Cooper's character and personality, on can clearly
see that his personal development as a man and as a father has truly set him apart from all the other
characters in the movie. Many of the

Labors And Slavery During The Gilded Age
During the Gilded Age both labors and farmers had very strong reasons to have these complaints.
Labors were treated as minorities, controlled by their bosses and weren't getting paid what they
deserved so this led to the unionizations, strikes and vandalisms. Farmers were in declined because
bigger farms were taking over and they were getting less money. They didn't understand why this
was happening if they had new machines, so this led to the Green Revolution and several political
activities. However, these complaints that both labors and farmers have, have their similarities and
differences.
Labors did not have very good wages and it was problem during the Gilded Age. Labors' had to live
by paternalism, meaning that George Pullman owned them. It seems as if labors never got a profit
for the long hours that they worked in the sweatshops. All the money goes straight back to Pullman,
because they had to pay for rent and their goods and groceries provided by him. So basically,
Pullman didn't consider them valuable because there was always someone looking for a job. These
reasons led to several unionizations like the Knights of Labor where they had to pay their dues to go
on strike and fight for them. Anyone from radical to bosses could join this union except bankers and
lawyers, which made no sense. They fought for workplace rights but where they did wrong is when
they demanded outside workplace rights such as free public schools for their children. This union

The Dark Side Of Chocolate : The Dark Side Of Chocolate
Child labour in business
Today, while people around the world are enjoying the chocolate, some children in Ivory Coast and
Ghana have to work in the cocoa industry even without pay. These children do not have the ability
to accept an education and they are trafficked to do the work. According to the documentary called
The Dark Side Of Chocolate, the child labour still exists in the cocoa industry in recent years
although the government promised to ban it, and this behaviour is thought as illegal. For instance, in
one scene, the journalist talks to the local officer about what he finds about child labour,
nevertheless, the government officer insists there was no child in Ivory Coast. As the government
officers, they should search about this issue and take action to save those children in peril. Hence,
this phenomenon is unfair to the children since they are denied their rights to study by the cocoa
industry which will affect their lives, and people should work with the government together to help
those children in the dangerous situation.
First of all, The Dark Side Of Chocolate is a documentary for all people in the society that raises
people's awareness to the children who are trafficked to do some difficult and dangerous work which
exceeds their ability range. Moreover, for individuals in the world, they may feel depressed when
they notice that child labour still exists in modern society. "According to a study conducted by

Comparing The Philosophies Of Michael Pollan And Raj Patel
The world continues to face a wide–scale food crisis. The effects of this crisis reach from the
farmers who grow and raise the food to the very system of laws that are in place to govern the
system itself. Food giants are reaching deep into their pockets for lobbying in order to take
advantage of both the producers and the consumer all in the name of profit. Moreover, farmers are
being driven to suicide, and the ecosystem's livelihood is treading a fine line. Both Michael Pollan
and Raj Patel bring to light these problems and offer suggestions to help lessen their severity.
Though there are many philosophies on which they both agree, they both have their own ideas to
fight back. Pollan seeks to challenge the consumer as an individual while ... Show more content on

The three contingencies of Patel's plan include changing the governing laws of agribusiness,
improving the conditions of and supporting rural areas, and changing the role of eating in society.
Before much progress can be made, the ways in which businesses are required to operate must
change. Without any new legislations to stand in their way, nothing will alter the ways in which they
operate or the ways they look to further solidify their dominance. Next, rural growers simply need
more help. In current conditions, they barely scrape by due to the increasing demands from their
purchasers and the decreasing amounts of compensation collected. Contrary to the original
perception, crop subsidies, most associated with corn, provide no help to these smaller farmers.
They can't compete with the mass–growers and their enormous swathes of land. It drives the rural
farmers out of those particular markets, and it often prevents them from growing crops their land is
most suitable for. Finally, Pollan pushes the idea that there must be a revamp of the meaning of food
to consumers. As it stands, people view eating as a task rather than an enjoyable experience. This
leads the consumer to think little of the food, especially in ways Michael Pollan insist they must
think about the food. This anti–cooking architecture of society is, nonetheless, a self–perpetuating

The Farmers Market At The Larger Food Systems Society Essay
The purpose of this report is to explore the Farmers market at Farm to Fork in comparison to the
larger food systems society contains. Food is an important aspect in our everyday lives, however,
individuals often do not take into consideration the different social relations to food. The Farm to
Fork was an interactive public event promoting non– GMO and organic food in order to achieve
sustainability within Ontario. In order to describe the importance of this farmers market, Smithers et
al (2008), provide a definition of what a farmers market contains in order to compare these elements
to the industrial food system. I believe the definition that they provide is an accurate representation
of what Farm to Fork wished to achieve. Smithers et al (2008), describe a farmers market as " a
complex an ambiguous space where notions of local, quality, authenticity and legitimacy find
expression and transactions around food" (p. 337). This paper seeks to not only understand
alternative food markets but to also touch upon the activism promoted by various speakers and
vendors. An analysis will also be provided on specific characteristics seen at this farmers market in
comparison to course articles focusing on farmers market from other experiences. Lastly, exploring
the farmers market will allow for a critical engagement on a comparison and contrast to the course
concepts as well as raise questions on consumer knowledge and understanding.

There are a few ideas and issues that are raised in the text that I can point out. I think that the idea of
having an ad about the worlds history and issues while showing normal every day Australians

The use of intertextuality in the advertisement of Farmers Union shows Australian tradesmen and

The Idea Of Nationalism And The Indigo Planting Mirror
Introduction on The idea of nationalism in the colonial world in Deenabandhu Mitra's Neel –Darpan
Neel Darpan; or The Indigo Planting Mirror is a Bengali play written by Dinabandhu
Mitra in 1858–1859. The play was essential to Neelbidraha, or Indigo revolt of
February– March 1859 in Bengal, when farmers refused to plant indigo in their fields as a protest
against exploitative farming under the British Raj.
The preface to the play addresses the numerous indigo planters who are offered the neel darpan (the
indigo mirror), 'so that they may take a look reflected in it'. In this play it reflects the social, political
and economic situations affected by the tyranny of the indigo planters which exploits the Indian
peasants.
The play is based on Mitra's experience as a postmaster in rural areas of Orissa and
Bengal. He saw the indigo farmer's oppression very closely. The trials of the peasants were not only
unjust but inhuman and exploitative in nature. Mitra wrote this play to raise a voice against the
indigo planters, jamindars and British officials. Gradually the message spread all around and the
voices of the peasants became the voice of the masses against the imperialism. This play's central
theme is the exploitation of

This would create and elastic effect on the corn market because the huge demand for corn oil will
remain the same but with the discovery corn for energy it has made it a hot commodity and very

can be used to produce energy. These farmers are going to slow down their productions of corn for
corn oil and increase the production of corn for energy because it is the more profitable thing to do
and its makes perfect business sense. Now the demand for the corn oil remains the same, but the
productions for it has slowed greatly if not stopped, this means that farmers and corn producers will
need to raise the price of corn for corn products so they will be able to stay on the market longer and
have a longer shelf life until another year or harvest comes around.

Proposed Defunding Of Agricultural Classes On The Nation...
As of March of 2016, Gov. Bruce Rauner of Illinois has proposed defunding of agricultural classes
in his state. Think about this, the governor of a state where one in four jobs in Illinois are directly
related to agriculture wants to give a grand total of zero dollars to the Future Farmers of America
along with ag classes in general. This is the reason that schools not only should offer agriculture
related classes, but in order to graduate from high school every student should at least take one class
of ag. At the end of the day all people must know where the nation's food comes from and how it
gets from the pasture to the store. There are only two percent of the nation 's population that are
farmers. Two percent of the people in America raise the crops and the meat for the whole country.
This number needs to change in order to ensure that children and the nation's children will be able to
survive. Today's kids do not know where their food is from which means they take farmers for
granted. One personal story that can be recalled happened just recently. A student pointed to a turkey
and asked "What is that? A giant rooster?" The response was "No, that is a turkey, and they come
from turkey houses." This is what brought up the thought of just how important ag education is. The
ones in the field work very hard to improve the ways of life for the animals and plants they grow so
that the people of America can eat. A recent study showed that U.S. cattle ranchers raise just

  • 9. Farmer Giles Hero Well the first topic I will be talking about whether not Farmer Giles of Ham is a Hero to me . In my opinion Farmer Giles is a hero because his town was attacked by a hopeless giant . That giant just wanted to find his home so his copper pot does not burn . But instead he got shot by a blunderbuss . A Blunderbuss is a short range shotgun . Ok let get back on track . So then later the giant thought it was a stinking dragonfly . So then he turned back and start running back to his big giant mommy . So after that commotion the town greeted him with delight of honor . Even a " smart " king gave him a generation sword that has been called tailbiter . So the " smart " king gave him that as gift for defending the kingdom own by the " smart " king ... Then several days later Gile went to his cave to get his treasure then they argued about what happens / happened to the deal how many there is and why he did not come so then Farmer Gile won the argument and then the dragon became his slave and carried all the treasure . Then Farmer Gile stood up to the king and then Giles became kings / a king / the king but Farmer Gile does not die he becomes king and Beowulf dies . My real life hero is Fouseytube but he is not like Beowulf because Beowulf has an and FouseyTube has a buffed . The reason why i picked FouseyTube is because he is my role model . His quotes always make me think what going to happen next , who am I , why am I here , am I the chosen one , these sort of thing help me calm and smooth . One of his quote is green tea is green tea if it's green tea . Farmer Market Observation During my visit to Crocker Galleria farmer's market, I was amaze how I never knew that there was a farmer's market in downtown San Francisco held every thursday and I work downtown and hang out there eating at food places which were unhealthy, so I am glad I was able to discover this farmer's market. As I walked around each station that had many variety of fruits, vegetables, nuts, fish, honey, etc available for anybody to view, to buy and ask questions to the farmers about their products and also having samples of the food they grown, where I tasted many foods which was delicious and for the first time I tasted a pomegranate fruit rather than the juice brand, so it was a unique experience from me to see farmer's eager to let people taste ... A similar correlation from this quote, would be from a YouTube video called Farmer's Market vs. Supermarket where they also wanted to see if it is better to shop at farmer's market or a Supermarket when it comes down to price and what they found out that it doing make a difference. In conclusion I will seriously consider to make an effort to shop for my produce at a farmer's market because as I was comparing prices, it's cheaper which is good for me to save money and also to me the produce look better and taste better than Supermarket ... • 21. Farmers of the late 1800's: Changing the Shape of American... The period between 1870 and 1900 was a time to change politics. The country was for once free from war and was united as one nation. However, as these decades passed by, the American farmer found it harder to live comfortably. Crops such as cotton and wheat, once the cash crop of agriculture, were selling at prices so low that it was nearly impossible for farmers to make a profit. Improvements in transportation allowed larger competitors to sell more easily and more cheaply, making it harder for American yeoman farmers to sell their crops. Finally, years of drought in the Midwest and the fall of business in the 1890s devastated the farming community. Most notably, the Populist Party arose to fight what farmers saw as the issues affecting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beginning in 1871, several states passed laws controlling railroad freight. The railroads fought the Granger Laws, in federal court, where they were ruled unconstitutional. The railroads regularly used rebates and drawbacks to help win the business of large shippers, and made up this loss in profit by increasing the cost to smaller shippers such as farmers. As a result, many farmers, already hurt by the depression in agriculture, were ruined. These farmers were hurt by the unfair practices of the railroad enterprise. Despite the flushed predictions of prosperity that had lured new settlers to the plains, the reality was more difficult. The farmers claimed that they did not have enough land, money, and transportation (Doc C). The farmers went into in a never ending cycle if they did not have a good harvest. As Booker Washington explains the farmers had no money so they had to borrow money from the banks which charged 12 to 30 percent interest. The interest the farmers were hit with was nearly impossible to repay so they had to mortgage everything and if the mortgage wasn't paid the land was foreclosure which led the yeomen to become tenant farmers (Doc B). With periods of drought growing good crops was hard. Leading Economic Sectors shows how the farmers predicament of not being able to make a very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. The Meaning Of Art For many individuals collecting and viewing art might be thought of as a favorite hobby or past time. Individuals might be seen at a local art museum just gazing at a piece of art, exhibiting almost signs of being in a trance of deep thought as one stands front and center, not moving for what seems to be an endless amount of time. The reason for such an appreciation for art, might be what it represents. Lisa Marder writes, "Art can be thought of as a symbol of what it means to be human, manifested in physical form for others to see and interpret. It can serve as a symbol for something that is tangible, or for a thought, an emotion, a feeling, or a concept. Through peaceful means, it can convey the full spectrum of the human experience." (Marder, 2017, para. 28). Meaning, art really has the ability to express many things and perspectives, which can also be represented in various shapes, sizes, and forms such as, drawings, sculptures, paintings, etc. With that being said, art is not only about the message that is being conveyed, but also a significance placed upon how the message is conveyed. There is a lot of thought and precision that goes into creating such art, that will enhance the message being conveyed; form and composition, material and technique, the lines, color, and texture, space and perspective, and proportion and scale. It is that same thought and precision that went into the 1941 creation of John Steuart Curry's, "Our Good Earth" (Kevernacular, 2014). The "Our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Pros And Cons Of Entitlement Theory Basically Sen (1981), founded Entitlement theory on the assumption that the system under consideration is an economy with private ownership and exchange in form of trade, exchange between people and production and between man and nature. However, he also accepted social benefits as entitlement relations. The theory is useful to explain poverty effects for different people at household level with disaggregation of differences among the group in the population and people even at the same household (Lenhardt, 2013). Hence, analysis using this theory implicates resources allocation between households. Remittances being one external resources can have effects in the final analysis using Entitlement Theory. Ideally, there are strong linkages between poverty and environment also explicated in the Entitlement Theory of poverty. Entitlement can be defined as collective outcome of environmental resources package that the human capital used to produce, own and have power on that particular resource as an individual or as a member of a given community or economic group. All have ability to use those resources package ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It ignores cultural issues, which are similarly important with the legal system. However, entitlement approach needs adjusting to new dynamics of contemporary analysis of poverty (Rubin, 2009). In spite of those criticisms, the theory can be useful for analysing poverty and remittances especially rural poverty since remittances are believed to be one of issues influencing entitlement and ownership. Remittances can be used to buy assets. By owning assets, especially productive assets, it increases chances for a individual or household to create wealth and it is widely agreed to be a crucial factor in escaping and reduce chances to be trapped into poverty (Miller et. al., ... The topic has gone viral from a Facebook post generating an astonishing 40,000 shares. The farmer, who was outraged with the order, made it seem as though he had to destroy the oversupply of cherries. Was this even the case? Did he falsify his information? When you look at the product that is being advertised by AgriGold, you have to consider a few different things when determining where it lies exactly within its life cycle. When you consider the product to be seed corn itself, the product has reached maturity and is beginning to enter the declining stage. What is meant by this is the fact that seed corn solely as a product has been sold for centuries and has reached its maximum penetration point within the market (given that people continue with their traditional crop–rotation strategies). Yet, I said that it is beginning to enter into the declining stage. When I say that seed corn is beginning to enter the declining stage I am referring to the fact that there is only a limited amount of land available to plant. As the populations grow, there is less land that is used for agricultural purposes, which ultimately correlates into declining demand for seed corn. While seed corn will always remain a very important and high value product, there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. The Locavore 's Dilemma By Christophe Pelletire How would you feel about only eating the food that is 100 miles within the distance that you live? Would you be able to do it every single day? Within 100 miles of where you currently living, do you have access to fresh meat products, seafood, dairy products, fresh fruit, and vegetables products? If you drink coffee, are coffee beans readily available within that area? What about chocolate or coco, are coco beans grown nearby? Are you in an area where corn and wheat are grown where you can produce all the carbohydrates like cereal, bread, and pastries that you consume regularly? What about sugar cane or sugar beats, the main sources of sugar used in soda, candy, and other sweet products? Locavores are people who only eat local food that is grown within a 100 miles from where they live. What effect does this have on people who come to visit and have to eat food that is only local food? In the article "The Locavore's Dilemma," author Christophe Pelletire's skillful presentation of his ethos overshadows his less successful portrayal of pathos for locavores and logos concerning the topic about locavores. Pelletire shows his pathos for the quality of food, shows ethos by giving the readers many examples of the types of resources people would lose, and shows his logos by providing his story with data he collected while physically living in Vancouver. In the article, the author is most successful in his presentation of the appeal of ethos, due to all the information he can give ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Implementing A Nutrition Education Component On The Double... Project design: This project seeks to implement a nutrition education component in the Double Up Food Bucks program at the Oakland County Farmer Market The first step in achieving the goal of increasing the purchase and consumption of SNAP beneficiaries in Oakland County is to increase the participation rates of the DUBF program. A good way to accomplish this is through promotion. Promoting the the DUFB program and what is has to offer will increase awareness and educate participants of the benefits they are able to receive when they shop at the farmers market. Starting two months prior to the beginning of the farmers market season, the community dietitian will have developed numerous promotional advertisements . With the help of an assistant, the advertisements will be sent out and displayed at local businesses, community centers, government agencies and libraries within Oakland County. Promotional marketing types will include newsletters, flyers, brochures, and websites. Each advertisement material will include information about the farmers market, such as day and time of operation and location of market, as well as information on the DUFB program, the SNAP incentives offered, and benefits of participating. Additionally, the marketing material will promote the opportunity of nutrition education and ability to speak with a RD to answer any questions they may have. Analysis Of I Am A Farmer By Aika Yamashiro Aiko Yamashiro is a poet, English major, and the author of "Values of Hawai'i 2: Ancestral Roots, Oceanic Views" which she published on May 10th, 2017. She compiled stories relating to the values of Hawaii, including the poem "I am a Farmer" by U'ilani Hideko Kalawe O Kou Ola Ana Kokaua Pulama Arasato. Arasato writes "I am a farmer" in the first–person perspective; "You should stop and listen, the 'aina is trying to speak." Reinforces that Arasato is explaining a situation to everyone about the lands of Hawaii. Arasato's purpose in "I am a Farmer" is to illustrate events that influenced Hawai'i land. From ancient Hawaiian times, during the time the Ali'i ruled, to modern day Hawaii, the land in which generations were promised, slowly disappeared as hungry real estate people bought it up. Infuriating, feeling betrayed, and being voided of their land brings darkness to the farmers and the reason why Arasato creates this poem to explain the history of farmers suffering. I agree with Arasato's claim that the farming land was wrongfully taken and deserves to be given back to those who rightfully own them because Hawaii is a place of fertility and where farmers thrive to grow food for its people. It's been a heritage for generations and if people take care of the land, the land will surely provide back. Therefore, the poem "I am a Farmer" explains the history of farming in Hawaii by relating to the past, explaining the challenges faced, and what the future of farming can be if the ... This event is open to the public from April to November every Saturday from 9:30am–12:30pm beside the Bulloch County Courthouse and Sea Island Bank. Here you will find many local vendors selling their own produce. This event is not limited to produce as you will also find locals selling jewelry, baked goods, crafts, and my personal favorite, coffee. Some locally owned stores other than farmers bring their business to the market such as Three Tree Coffee Roasters, Sugar Magnolia, Cork's Kettle Corn, B&G Honey Farm, etc. With a small town feel, this charming location is perfect for the venue at hand. What was your role at the event? Upon arrival, I went to the information vendor located in the middle of the Farmers Market where I was greeted by other volunteers and Melanie Sparrow, who told me my responsibilites for the upcoming hours. My first duty was to hand out various advertisements for the upcoming GreenFest which will be held October 1st, 2016, across the street from the Farmers Market. The GreenFest is held by Georgia Southern's Center for Sustainability. The goal of this event is to teach people about green living and what it entails. Much like the Farmers Market, there will be live music, vendors, and workshops. Aside from passing out ads, I also helped keep attendance of everyone in the market by taking a count every 30 minutes or so. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 61. The Agricultural Crisis by Wendell Berry Essay example The Agricultural Crisis by Wendell Berry In this novel by Wendell Berry, Berry's describes in his thesis that modern culture is destroying the agricultural culture. He feels that technology is seen as the easy way to produce food faster and more efficiently. With this modern way of farming comes the idea that hard work is not needed to make a living. The goal is comfort and leisure. Berry feels that this is the reason for the deterioration of the agricultural culture. He believes that hard work and pride in workmanship is more important than material goods and money. This was by no means a perfect society. The people had often been violent wand wasteful in the use of land of each other. Its present ills have already taken root in it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They generally are not interested in anything that cannot be reached by automobile on a good road. Some of the farmer's children will be able to afford to stay on the farm. Perhaps even fewer will wish to do so, for it will cost too much, require too much work and worry, and it is hardly a fashionable ambition. Another argument that Berry proposes is the connection between the "modernization" of agricultural techniques and the disintegration of the culture, as well as the communities of farming and the consequent disintegration of structures of urban life. What we called agriculture progress has involved the forcible displacement of millions of people. An example of modernization can be seen through the idea of "Get big or get out." It's a policy that says that you have to become more modern through change and be competitive in order to keep up with the other competitors. If not, than you must get of what you are doing. This can be used through a comparison of communist using military force in order to remove those who refuse to follow their demand for change, and the government using their economic power to force farmers to improve their farming techniques. I thought all the produce in our supermarkets was from local farmers, and I thought that green markets were just another place to buy produce. This semester has opened my eyes to the issues surrounding the food we eat. Before the 1870's canning industry, food was not shipped across the United Sates; it was consumed locally. Back then the local farmer's had a market; with the grit in their teeth, soiled hands and pants, and their backs to the sun, the farmer knew that if they grew a certain amount of food they could take it to market and sell it for a profit. Though farmers could be content, they also knew that from every harvest a portion of crop would spoil before it reached ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Today, when I walk into a grocery stores such as Shop Rite or Path Mart, the whole store smells like a factory. I noticed what Joan Gussow was talking about when she illustrated that we need to make it a trend to pay attention to where our food comes from. When I saw products in the super market that were from the Dominican Republic, I thought to myself, these Dominicans work really hard to ship us all these tasty fruits. The life of a farmer must pay well. Most people picture the average Dominican worker on the farm, working the land, and having a cup of coffee while the are watching their little babies run around. The reality of the situation is that Dominican workers are only paid a few dollars a day; their country is starving because they are exporting their resources to other countries, instead of consuming it themselves. Now my eyes are open to how much the food supply has not changed since Gussow wrote, "A modest proposal", in 1985. On a positive note, intellectual city dwellers are getting organized and advocating to protect the local farmer by educating the average consumer to keep these farmers in mind before he/she makes their purchase at the grocery store In this class, I learned a dirty little secret that most people do not know. Businesses run off of risk in order to make huge amounts of money. They trust the consumers to buy their products or services. They trust their suppliers with materials they need. They also trust the efficiency of their production line. Some businesses are so obsessed with the profits they gain that many people's lives are put at risk. One thing the farmers don't realize is that there is no diversity within the seeds that allow the seed to develop it's own defenses or success rate. Diversity allows the strongest seed to reproduce and make more seeds with even stronger characteristics. GMOs try to do this artificially which lead to their downfall every time. Suppose a farmer learned this and decides not to purchase any more of these seeds, Professor Zongo also stated that, "If a farmer doesn't follow the flow and refuses to adapt the GMOs, they are cut from fertilizers and can't sell their products."(Organic Dreams,1:00) In this case, the farmers are being punished for forming their own opinion about these bad ... While I sit back and munch on the food that I was given from my friends, I would think would the money they spent towards this food be different from others, or whether these "food" would taste better but not be great for your food plan. My decisions about food are what foods to decide to eat for yourself and your families, whether using store bought/ hand grown foods, and how to be able to prepare your food to taste amazing. While my family is from Africa, they love to eat meat, but for myself, I get really picky of what meat I am putting in my mouth that would satisfy my food plan. When I was a little kid I had thousands of foods to choose from and eat since I really didn't like the sour or chewy things in my life I gave up on it and ran towards unhealthy foods. In other words, I think of food as " pretty much an abstract idea – something they do not know or imagine – until it appears on the grocery shelf or on the table (Berry,4)." This would explain how poorly I was to my grandma when I tried working on her farm and eat the hand forced. Essay on The Corrupt Bargain When Andrew Jackson was denied presidency in 1824 due to "the corrupt bargain" between John Quincy Adams and Henry Clay, he was furious at the lack of democracy in the election system. He became determined to institute a new age of genuine democracy in America where the voice of the people wouldim being monarchal, Andrew Jackson was a very democratic president evidenced by his drive to give the people more representation and also his attempted transfer of power from the few to the many. These statistics show Jefferson's influence on many of the states in America which granted their people direct representation by allowing them to choose their own electoral candidates. Moreover, Andrew Jackson greatly facilitated the transfer of power from "the few" to "the many" in the US. In Jackson's Bank Veto Message to Congress in July of 1832, he stated that the rich were monopolizing the country's domestic exchange by "bending the acts of government to their selfish purposes." (Document 4). Jackson argued that with so much money and power, the corrupt rich were influencing the government to allow them domination over the many people who could not match their authority. The few, selfish rich citizens felt no duty or responsibility to their country so they committed great evils to promote their own status. For this reason, Jackson wanted the Bank of the United States vetoed so that this corruption could be ended at once and the rich would not be able to use the Bank for their egotistic intents. The BUS had been standing since Alexander Hamilton proposed it in the early 1800s, so it was outlandish for Jackson to propose its veto, but he was truly doing it for the people. The following day after Jackson's message, Daniel Webster issued a reply to it. In his reply, Webster claimed that Jackson was controlling the poor and arousing them against the rich (Document 5). The main factor that would cause this unexpected change in price that Thomas Foods should be concerned with is the possible fluctuation of weather conditions. Thomas Foods is interested in determining whether or not hedge accounting would be the best solution to protect the company's operating income. If the company elects to implement a hedge accounting system, the Controller of the company must be informed of the accounting treatments involved when dealing with cash flow and fair value hedge accounting, the two most common forms of hedge accounting. Issues: 1. Will implementing a hedging strategy help to alleviate the risks of price increases and benefit Thomas Foods financially when it comes to purchasing produce from local farmers? 2. Which hedge accounting strategy or alternative method will be most beneficial to Thomas Foods and ensure minimal loss in operating income? 3. How can the accounting treatments of the newly implemented strategy be best explained to the Controller of Thomas Foods? Conclusions: 1. • 89. Reflection Of The Film 'Corner In Wheat' Corner in Wheat Reflection Paper Corner in Wheat is a film created by D.W. Griffith in 1909. The film focuses on the three divisions of the wheat market, which was rare at the time because most films during the early twentieth century focused on people. The first division showcases the farmers who grow the wheat. The next division portrays the Wheat King, a wealthy businessman who controls the wheat market. The last division follows the bakery, the place that distributes the wheat, and the consumers who purchase the bread that is made from the wheat. The film has a variety of elements within the shots of the film. The depth of field is one of the elements that can be viewed in Corner in Wheat. One of the last shots in the film is the farmer sprinkling wheat on the field. This shot shows how the camera moves from background to the front ground, which presents deep space. The farmer is shown walking from a distance sprinkling the wheat, eventually, as he continues walking he moves closer to the camera as he goes about his business. The depth of the field of the farmer's field is different than the depth of field in the grain elevator. D.W. Griffin emphasizes space with the background because of the layout which, directly extends straight back to a door, making this shot have deep space. Moreover, the movement of the people goes left to right. The staircase is on the left and stands near the hole where the wheat is falling into the hole and the people are told to continue ... Toward a Recovery of Nineteenth Century Farming Handbooks While researching texts written about nineteenth century farming, I found a few authors who published books about the literature of nineteenth century farming, particularly agricultural journals, newspapers, pamphlets, and brochures. These authors often placed the farming literature they were studying into an historical context by discussing the important events in agriculture of the year in which the literature was published (see Demaree, for example). However, while these authors discuss journals, newspapers, pamphlets, and brochures, I could not find much discussion about another important source of farming knowledge: farming handbooks. My goal in this paper is to bring this source into the agricultural literature discussion by connecting three agricultural handbooks from the nineteenth century with nineteenth century agricultural history. To achieve this goal, I have organized my paper into four main sections, two of which have sub– sections. In the first section, I provide an account of three important events in nineteenth century agricultural history: population and technological changes, the distribution of scientific new knowledge, and farming's influence on education. In the second section, I discuss three nineteenth century farming handbooks in connection with the important events described in the first section. Contrary to popular belief, farmers are required to develop their creativity as they can try to perform new techniques of sowing, for example, or, they can develop new devices to improve their work. Another important aspect is that your work is going to be different through the years because every harvest is going to be different from the previous one. Famine is widespread, and all of mankind's resources are now dedicated to farming in a desperate fight for survival." The main character, an educated farmer with a love for space travel, has a complex within himself and thus he presents a great opportunity to analyze and discuss character development. Cooper, the name of one of the most natural, human characters in the entire plot line of Interstellar, goes on a journey of ups and downs to be a hero once again. (Buchanan, Jason. "Synopsis, Characteristics, Moods, Themes and Related.") Cooper goes from a simple farmer with a care free lifestyle, wishing the best for his children, to now leading a group of astronauts into space on mankind's last chance for survival. After doing research there are many things about Cooper's character and personality, on can clearly see that his personal development as a man and as a father has truly set him apart from all the other characters in the movie. • 117. Labors And Slavery During The Gilded Age During the Gilded Age both labors and farmers had very strong reasons to have these complaints. Labors were treated as minorities, controlled by their bosses and weren't getting paid what they deserved so this led to the unionizations, strikes and vandalisms. Farmers were in declined because bigger farms were taking over and they were getting less money. They didn't understand why this was happening if they had new machines, so this led to the Green Revolution and several political activities. However, these complaints that both labors and farmers have, have their similarities and differences. Labors did not have very good wages and it was problem during the Gilded Age. Labors' had to live by paternalism, meaning that George Pullman owned them. It seems as if labors never got a profit for the long hours that they worked in the sweatshops. All the money goes straight back to Pullman, because they had to pay for rent and their goods and groceries provided by him. So basically, Pullman didn't consider them valuable because there was always someone looking for a job. These reasons led to several unionizations like the Knights of Labor where they had to pay their dues to go on strike and fight for them. Anyone from radical to bosses could join this union except bankers and lawyers, which made no sense. They fought for workplace rights but where they did wrong is when they demanded outside workplace rights such as free public schools for their children. This union caused deaths ... • 121. The Dark Side Of Chocolate : The Dark Side Of Chocolate Child labour in business Today, while people around the world are enjoying the chocolate, some children in Ivory Coast and Ghana have to work in the cocoa industry even without pay. These children do not have the ability to accept an education and they are trafficked to do the work. According to the documentary called The Dark Side Of Chocolate, the child labour still exists in the cocoa industry in recent years although the government promised to ban it, and this behaviour is thought as illegal. For instance, in one scene, the journalist talks to the local officer about what he finds about child labour, nevertheless, the government officer insists there was no child in Ivory Coast. As the government officers, they should search about this issue and take action to save those children in peril. Hence, this phenomenon is unfair to the children since they are denied their rights to study by the cocoa industry which will affect their lives, and people should work with the government together to help those children in the dangerous situation. First of all, The Dark Side Of Chocolate is a documentary for all people in the society that raises people's awareness to the children who are trafficked to do some difficult and dangerous work which exceeds their ability range. Moreover, for individuals in the world, they may feel depressed when they notice that child labour still exists in modern society. • 125. Comparing The Philosophies Of Michael Pollan And Raj Patel The world continues to face a wide–scale food crisis. The effects of this crisis reach from the farmers who grow and raise the food to the very system of laws that are in place to govern the system itself. Food giants are reaching deep into their pockets for lobbying in order to take advantage of both the producers and the consumer all in the name of profit. Moreover, farmers are being driven to suicide, and the ecosystem's livelihood is treading a fine line. Both Michael Pollan and Raj Patel bring to light these problems and offer suggestions to help lessen their severity. Though there are many philosophies on which they both agree, they both have their own ideas to fight back. Pollan seeks to challenge the consumer as an individual while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The three contingencies of Patel's plan include changing the governing laws of agribusiness, improving the conditions of and supporting rural areas, and changing the role of eating in society. Before much progress can be made, the ways in which businesses are required to operate must change. Without any new legislations to stand in their way, nothing will alter the ways in which they operate or the ways they look to further solidify their dominance. Next, rural growers simply need more help. In current conditions, they barely scrape by due to the increasing demands from their purchasers and the decreasing amounts of compensation collected. Contrary to the original perception, crop subsidies, most associated with corn, provide no help to these smaller farmers. They can't compete with the mass–growers and their enormous swathes of land. It drives the rural farmers out of those particular markets, and it often prevents them from growing crops their land is most suitable for. Finally, Pollan pushes the idea that there must be a revamp of the meaning of food to consumers. As it stands, people view eating as a task rather than an enjoyable experience. This leads the consumer to think little of the food, especially in ways Michael Pollan insist they must think about the food. This anti–cooking architecture of society is, nonetheless, a self–perpetuating cycle of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nelson Reinsch is a very successful cotton farmer. Him and his wife Ruth tend to be seen as people whose minds are opening rather than closing as they approach the ends of their lives. Producing cotton is no longer the exhausting physical process that it used to be, but Nelson and Ruth still fight both the impulses of nature and the moods of the markets. Every summer, they take on the different types of weathers they have to face and compete with cotton farmers from over 70 countries. Nelson Reinsch 1,000 acres can produce about 500,000 pounds of cotton lint if it is fully planted, which is enough for about 1.3 million T–shirts. Him ending his life in the same occupation that he began with makes a clear statement about the U.S. cotton industry. For over 200 years, The U.S. has been the certain leader of the global cotton industry. Poor countries have a very small chance to catch up with all the challenges they face. The U.S. has dominantly occupied first place in cotton production, cotton exports, farm size, and yields per acre. American industries usually compete with countries that are similar to them. For example, U.S. forms compete with Japanese automakers, German chemical companies, and Swiss pharmaceuticals. For climatic reasons, there are few advanced industrial economies that produce cotton. It says that humans are not always willing to introduce someone new to their society. Have you ever discriminated against someone or been discriminated against because you were different? Frankenstein is a book that explores difference in a society, to explore this theme a monster is created to give the idea of rejection. This monster is rejected everywhere he goes because of his difference. He is rejected by his creator, and then he is rejected by the villagers, by the farmers who the monster had so long admired and in the end by the reader himself. Victor had worked day and night trying to create an individual that would be and would look like a human. Once Victor had finished creating this monster he realized how not human alike the monster was and decided to reject him. This was a sign by the author to show the rejection of the monster by the creator and how no one even the creator accepts the monster because of the way he is and the way he looks. This happens in our modern world today as many parents do not accept their child because of his ideas and future plans. "The whole village was roused; some fled, some attacked me2 Wherever he goes, the monster cannot find a person who accepts his way of being. This is shown in the different villages the monster visits. we see that the monster is attacked and harassed by the villagers. • 137. The Farmers Market At The Larger Food Systems Society Essay The purpose of this report is to explore the Farmers market at Farm to Fork in comparison to the larger food systems society contains. Food is an important aspect in our everyday lives, however, individuals often do not take into consideration the different social relations to food. The Farm to Fork was an interactive public event promoting non– GMO and organic food in order to achieve sustainability within Ontario. In order to describe the importance of this farmers market, Smithers et al (2008), provide a definition of what a farmers market contains in order to compare these elements to the industrial food system. I believe the definition that they provide is an accurate representation of what Farm to Fork wished to achieve. Smithers et al (2008), describe a farmers market as " a complex an ambiguous space where notions of local, quality, authenticity and legitimacy find expression and transactions around food" (p. 337). This paper seeks to not only understand alternative food markets but to also touch upon the activism promoted by various speakers and vendors. An analysis will also be provided on specific characteristics seen at this farmers market in comparison to course articles focusing on farmers market from other experiences. Lastly, exploring the farmers market will allow for a critical engagement on a comparison and contrast to the course concepts as well as raise questions on consumer knowledge and understanding. The milk beverage is Australia's largest selling flavored milk and each year Australians consume in excess of 27 million litres of the beverage each year. There are a few ideas and issues that are raised in the text that I can point out. I think that the idea of having an ad about the worlds history and issues while showing normal every day Australians playing out the roles and then able to hide the real message is a sensational advertisement. The general idea in any advertisement is to try and increase the sale and popularity of a product. I have probably seen the Farmers Union ad a thousand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The use of intertextuality in the advertisement of Farmers Union shows Australian tradesmen and hardworking sweaty men drinking it while they are working. It would give the message that this sort of beverage is for big, strong and tough men and is not for the light hearted. • 145. The Idea Of Nationalism And The Indigo Planting Mirror Introduction on The idea of nationalism in the colonial world in Deenabandhu Mitra's Neel –Darpan Neel Darpan; or The Indigo Planting Mirror is a Bengali play written by Dinabandhu Mitra in 1858–1859. The play was essential to Neelbidraha, or Indigo revolt of February– March 1859 in Bengal, when farmers refused to plant indigo in their fields as a protest against exploitative farming under the British Raj. The preface to the play addresses the numerous indigo planters who are offered the neel darpan (the indigo mirror), 'so that they may take a look reflected in it'. In this play it reflects the social, political and economic situations affected by the tyranny of the indigo planters which exploits the Indian peasants. The play is based on Mitra's experience as a postmaster in rural areas of Orissa and Bengal. He saw the indigo farmer's oppression very closely. The trials of the peasants were not only unjust but inhuman and exploitative in nature. Mitra wrote this play to raise a voice against the indigo planters, jamindars and British officials. Gradually the message spread all around and the voices of the peasants became the voice of the masses against the imperialism. This play's central theme is the exploitation of ... This great demand for corn has increased many area of farming and production of corn here and other countries such as Mexico and South America. This great demand has lead to an increase in farmers who are willing to cash in on these cash crops and try to earn a few quick dollars because of the great demand for it. This would create and elastic effect on the corn market because the huge demand for corn oil will remain the same but with the discovery corn for energy it has made it a hot commodity and very profitable amongst farmers therefore corn oil would take a back seat for now until other resources can be used to produce energy. These farmers are going to slow down their productions of corn for corn oil and increase the production of corn for energy because it is the more profitable thing to do and its makes perfect business sense. Now the demand for the corn oil remains the same, but the productions for it has slowed greatly if not stopped, this means that farmers and corn producers will need to raise the price of corn for corn products so they will be able to stay on the market longer and have a longer shelf life until another year or harvest comes around. • 153. Proposed Defunding Of Agricultural Classes On The Nation... As of March of 2016, Gov. Bruce Rauner of Illinois has proposed defunding of agricultural classes in his state. Think about this, the governor of a state where one in four jobs in Illinois are directly related to agriculture wants to give a grand total of zero dollars to the Future Farmers of America along with ag classes in general. This is the reason that schools not only should offer agriculture related classes, but in order to graduate from high school every student should at least take one class of ag. At the end of the day all people must know where the nation's food comes from and how it gets from the pasture to the store. There are only two percent of the nation 's population that are farmers. Two percent of the people in America raise the crops and the meat for the whole country. This number needs to change in order to ensure that children and the nation's children will be able to survive. Today's kids do not know where their food is from which means they take farmers for granted. One personal story that can be recalled happened just recently. A student pointed to a turkey and asked "What is that? A giant rooster?" The response was "No, that is a turkey, and they come from turkey houses." This is what brought up the thought of just how important ag education is. The ones in the field work very hard to improve the ways of life for the animals and plants they grow so that the people of America can eat.
