AND THE CASE OF THE LITTER BUG

2. EXT. STREETSIDE - 14:00
We turn to a street in daylight, ​JIMMY JOHNS​ walks down
it, sipping a can of something. He wears a loose fitting
grey hoodie and jeans. He finishes the last sip of drink
and throws it over his shoulder, where it lands next to a
bin. As soon as he does this, a fist enters frame left
and punches Jimmy in the face
MR CAPTAIN RECYCLE
Stop evildoer!
JIMMY JOHNS
(Desperately)
Oh god, look just take the
wallet and leave me alone.
MR CAPTAIN RECYCLE
You have defiled the sanctity of
this fine street with your
litterbug tendencies !
JIMMY JOHNS
You punched me in the face for
littering?
MR CAPTAIN RECYCLE
Well that is the job of the
great hero! Mr captain recycle!
JIMMY JOHNS

Well I have Jury duty so i guess
kidnapping is a solid way to get
out of that.

EXT. RECYCLING CENTRE- 14:00
After a transition, the two are standing in a recycling
centre
MR CAPTAIN RECYCLE
How was your flight Jimmy? Your
first time in the air?
JIMMY JOHNS
I threw up twice and got 16 bugs
in my mouth, each one instantly
hit the back of my throat
because we were going over 800
miles an hour. Please never do
that again
MR CAPTAIN RECYCLE
Shhh Jimmy, can you hear that?
JIMMY JOHNS
Nope, still recovering from the
sonic boom
MR CAPTAIN RECYCLE
It's the sound of progress, This
is Redbridges only Recycling
center, people come from all
over to put their otherwise
pointless junk to good use
JIMMY JOHNS
You just said its pointless,
What use can it be?
MR CAPTAIN RECYCLE
One mans trash is another man's
treasure Jonsey. Books you don't
care for get donated, Shoes that
no longer fit you get given to
people that need them. Recycling
is not just about plastic and
glass, It's about donating and

Oh, so I could give that bike
that's too small for me to this

course it largely is about
gathering unused plastic, wood,
and metal too.
JIMMY JOHNS
So cool, these sorts of places
make sure that nothing is
wasted, but what happens if we
just bin our stuff normally?

Landfills!

Landfills are the work of my
arch nemesis, General Waste.
They are large piles of peoples
rubbish that go unrecycled.
Landfills also contaminate the
area and kill local wildlife to
astonishing degrees

Sounds evil!

They are, the waste goes toxic,
Over time, then these toxins
leach into our soil and
groundwater, and become
environmental hazards for years!
Animals can't live there, and it
effects water for miles around.
Electronic waste such as
televisions, computers and other
electronic appliances contain a
ton of bad stuff including
mercury, arsenic, cadmium, PVC,
solvents, acids and lead.

5. What about all that greenhouse
gas stuff you hear about on the
news?
MR CAPTAIN RECYCLE
Glad you asked Jamiroquai, The
greenhouse effect is caused
partly due to landfills like
this one, when the organic
material is artificially
compacted, such as in the
landfills, the oxygen breaks up
and becomes methane, making it a
greenhouse gas.
JIMMY JOHNS
Oh jeez Mr Captain Recycle,
that's awful! Greenhouse gases
heat up the earth right?,
causing the melting of all those
ice caps up north
MR CAPTAIN RECYCLE
Indeed!
One good way to stop this is
composting organic materials
like egg boxes and food scraps.
worms, snails, insects and fungi
help to decompose organic
material aerobically, which
means they use oxygen as they
breakdown the materials in the
pile,meaning less greenhouse
gases, and you get good
fertilizer out of it.
Compared to the london average
of 42% of household waste being
recycled,redbridge only recycles
27% of it’s household waste we
which is much lower than the
average, something needs to be
done about this.
Only 21% of non household waste
is recycled in redbridge.
Redbridge companies are not
doing their part to reduce
waste, while large corporations
contribute over 50% of global
waste and greenhouse gases.

are taking)

So i think i'm starting to get
it? I'm not going to litter
again!, But is there anything I
can actually do apart from that?
MR CAPTAIN RECYCLE

Now Jimothy, There are three
main tenants of recycling, We
covered Recycling itself, and
touched on Reusing, but what
about reducing?

Mind reading, as I was saying,
let's take a look at that
fridge!
MR CAPTAIN RECYCLE opens Jimmy's fridge, and takes out a
packet of sausages with plastic packages

7. MR CAPTAIN RECYCLE
Plastic packing,simply cutting
down on the amount of plastic
you use can seriously help the
environment. Fair enough if you
can afford organic, but even
going for cardboard packaging
can make an impact.
JIMMY JOHNS/

bags)

Reusable bags such as this one
(Brings out bag)
Are fantastic for reducing, you
can use one of these instead of
using all this plastic.

shopping, instead of paying 5p
for a plastic bag every time.

8. (The camera pans down to a group of garbage bins, One of
them is rustling strangely, when Jimmy mentions this, it
turns round. Its GENERAL WASTE)

exact my revenge on you, and
your recycling foolishness

(Jimmy looks on in confusion)
GENERAL WASTE
Because i’m evil!I will end you
today, in this very spot
(General waste charges captain recycle, they trade
punches, the camera not keeping both of them in frame at
any point as they punch each other. After a few punches,
Jimmy comes in from the back of frame, and hits General
Waste with a frying pan)
MR CAPTAIN RECYCLE
Jimmy! You did it! You defeated
my arch nemesis.
JIMMY JOHNS
His weakness was Frying pans the
whole time!
MR CAPTAIN RECYCLE
Well you saved my butt Jimmy, or
should i say, Private Reduce, my
new sidekick!
JIMMY JOHNS
