Holocaust deniers know they won't be believed if they just outright deny that the holocaust happened at all, so instead,
they decided they would take the stance that the holocaust happened but not to the extreme degree that people claim it to
be. Most scholars believe holocaust denial started because of issues with Israel, anti–Semitism, and skepticism of the
widely accepted history. Holocaust denial has been going on since the holocaust began. It would be incredibly difficult
for me to convince you that the holocaust never happened, but it would be much easier for me to undermine the validity
of what you think you know about the holocaust. The name "Holocaust Deniers" can actually work in favor of the people
trying to discredit the holocaust. They claim instead that they are not holocaust deniers, just trying to have an honest
debate about what happened during the holocaust. Then they can make the claim that they aren't extremists because they
don't deny the whole holocaust. The use vagueness as a tool against facts, the minute they get into clear specifics their

These factors contribute to the next technique: innocence. This technique is heavily portrayed in The Boy in the Striped
Pyjamas but is also shown in Life is Beautiful. Because of the perspective of a nine year old, there are many accounts of
misunderstanding and obliviousness. For example, innocence is demonstrated through Bruno's mispronunciation of
words such as Auschwitz and The Führer (Hitler); instead, he alters them into "Out–With" and "The Fury." This shows
Bruno's unawareness that Auschwitz is actually a slaughterhouse built especially for the Jews and that The Führer is the
leader of the Nazi Party, the one who started all this. Life is Beautiful contains a slightly different version of innocence.

Luck seems to influence many parts of people's lives. However, without making smart choices at the right time, luck
does not happen just by chance. A graphic novel written by Art Spiegelman, Maus II: A Survivor's Tale, is about the
author's father as a Holocaust survivor in the twentieth century. Throughout the whole story of Maus II, the role of
resourcefulness in survival is presented repeatedly. When the author's father, Vladek, was in Auschwitz, there were
several moments where he was about to be killed. In such circumstances, resourcefulness played much larger role than
luck, and it helped him to stay alive. Specifically, Vladek's ability to save for future, to find work and to trade kept him
alive in Holocaust. Therefore, people who survived were mostly the resourceful ones, not the ones who were randomly
chosen.
Although luck does play a role in the novel, the major factor that kept Vladek alive was his resourcefulness. Particularly,
his ability to save items for the future really helped him to stay alive during the Holocaust. When Vladek was on a
crowded train, Vladek used the saved thin blanket they had given him, and "climbed to somebody's shoulder and hooked
it strong" above the other passengers in the train. This helped Vladek to "rest and breathe a little," because he did not

Over 70 years ago, one of, if not the, darkest and most evil events in human history began. Starting in 1941 and ending
in 1945, up to about 11 million people (including 6 million Jews), who were deemed 'sub–human' by the Nazi regime of
Germany, were systematically rounded up and exterminated by various means. These means included but were not
limited to gas chambers, deliberate starving, and mass shootings carried out by paramilitary groups affiliated with the
Nazis and SS (Schutzstaffel), such as the Einsatzgruppen. The holocaust is one of the best documented events in history.
Despite this, many people choose to deny the holocaust. I will be disproving many of the arguments used by holocaust
deniers.
Holocaust denial is a vehicle for Neo–Nazism and Nazi apology. Holocaust denial (often called holocaust revisionism) is
the belief that what we know as the holocaust (the systematic murder of approximately 6 million Jews) is greatly
exaggerated if not totally incorrect. Holocaust deniers believe that the number of Jews killed is closer to approximately

Known as one of the most horrific events in history, World War II (WW2) caused tremendous adversity and suffering
amongst the lives of people across the globe. However, what is most concerning about the war, was what happened

their defence of the practice, they failed to establish its legitimacy. The question of who gives the activists a mandate to

harm done by allowing people with a hateful or bigoted message justifies no–platforming. The example she gave was
Germaine Greer's 2015 visit to Cardiff University. Students had protested the visit because of Greer's views on
transgendered women but were unsuccessful. Greer's position, stated Chi Chi, "takes away the personhood of trans
people." The issue with this statement 1 is that the harm done is subjective, and may be seen by others as merely

1941, the order was given to begin the building of the largest and deadliest Nazi concentration camp, Auschwitz, in a
town called Oswiecim (Smolen et al. 2). The Nazis began deporting the locals of the town so that the camp would be as
isolated as possible and to have somewhere to sleep. The locals were sent away without any kind of payment for their
homes or lands (Smolen et al. 3). It was then ordered that some three–hundred Jewish prisoners would be sent to begin
construction of the camp. By the time Auschwitz was completed, there were 28 two story buildings to house the
prisoners. As time went on the need for another camp arose. Camp Birkenau, later to be named Auschwitz II, was built
about 3km. away and could house another 200,000 prisoners (Smolen et al. 4 and 5). The first experiment with gassing
prisoners with Zyklon B took place in 1941. 250 sick inmates and 600 Soviet POWs were taken to the basement of

Why is the Holocaust denied to this day despite the evidence? The Holocaust was the largest genocide of the twentieth
century and is one of the most well–documented events in history. But even with all the evidence, the holocaust is still
denied to this day. People who deny the Holocaust ignore the evidence and believe the Holocaust was a myth. So why
exactly do people say that the holocaust was a myth? Is it because it was to terrible to admit it actually happened? Or do
people really think it actually didn't happen? According to an article on The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum
website, Holocaust deniers believe the event is a myth invented by the Allies, the Soviet communists, and the Jews for
their own reasons. They believe that if you can discredit one fact about the holocaust then you can discredit the whole
thing. Some will say that since there is not one document outlining the holocaust or a signed document signed by Hitler
ordering the holocaust, that it was all a hoax. Historians have estimated the number of Jews killed in the holocaust to
about 5.1 and 6 million based on historic resources and demographic studies, but deniers see these numbers as an
exaggeration. The key denial statements that people make are: that the murder of estimated six million Jews during

The Holocaust, the systematic extermination of 11 million Jews and other minorities during World War 2, was an
occurrence caused by human brutality and cruelty. Today, there is a wide variety of evidence including first person
accounts, literature, images and other physical evidence from camps including Auschwitz–Birkenau and other death

They believe that the accusation against Nazis for committing genocide against millions of Jews is part of an "elaborate
hoax". " Slickly produced videos purport to show that concentration camps like Auschwitz and Birkenau were
recreational facilities, not death camps." (Lasson) Facts were distorted in an attempt to conceal or outright deny the
events that took place inside Auschwitz and Birkenau, one of the most notorious death camps in the Holocaust. The real
evidence, was denied and said to be forged. Fabricating these videos would set the foundation to deny the true purpose of
the Nazis, to exterminate the Jews. Although first person accounts by survivors and even Germans including Rudolf
Hoess admitting to the extermination of Jews and other prisoners in the concentration camps exist, David Irving, a
British Historian and probable Holocaust denier, claims "that Auschwitz was not a death camp but merely "the most
brutal of all Himmler's slave labor camps and the one with the highest mortality rate." (Rosenbaum) Irving is attributing
the high mortality rate in the camp not to the systematic extermination of prisoners in gas chambers but to disease,
starvation, and difficult labor, factors which the Nazis were not directly responsible for, in his eyes.

David Irving's Denial Of The Holocaust
It is arguable for various reasons that David Irving may be considered a historian regardless of his denial of the
Holocaust. Under the definition of what makes a historian (i.e. someone who is a scholar, has had their works published,
etc.) Irving fits the description. David Irving, as a historian, has a strong focus on the German military, not the
Holocaust. Irving's morality is definitely questionable based on the remarks he has made, but he has not published
anything specifically on the Holocaust and he has claimed that he does not consider himself "a historian of the
Holocaust". Irving has also stated that he considers himself "as a biographer of top Nazis". One discussion that plays in
heavily with the debate regarding whether or not Irving may be considered a historian is whether or not his works are
being censored through the widespread banning of his publications. I personally believe that in this case this is

As mentioned before, Irving's works have a sole focus on the German military, not the Holocaust. As long as Irving does
not publish anything inaccurate like his beliefs, he may remain a historian. When it comes to morality, I personally do
not believe that you have to agree with someone's beliefs in determining whether or not they may be considered a
historian, especially because Irving isn't even a historian of the Holocaust. Irving's denial of the Holocaust does make
him questionable as a source, but based on our readings it is suggested that the reasoning behind this is that Irving has
blatantly neglected to look at documents that include proof of the Holocaust. It has also been stated that Irving had
eventually acknowledged the occurrence of the Holocaust based on a document he had read, although his timing was

David Irving's Denying The Holocaust
It's hard for someone who is a Jew and who had extended family die during the Holocaust wrap their brain around the
idea that there are people, even in 2017 who believe that the Holocaust did not happen. Despite the massive amounts of
evidence, survivor testimony, and the most famous diary to be published through the eyes of Anne Frank who ended up
dying during WWII, there is a population who still try to find ways to discredit the Holocaust. I can only imagine how
survivors of the Holocaust felt in the 1990's and early 2000's when David Irving, a self proclaimed historian sued
Professor Deborah E. Lipstadt a Dorot Professor of Modern Jewish History and Holocaust Studies at Emory University

Irving asks Professor van Pelt for details about the structure of the supposed columns in the chambers and the materials
that they were made out of. van Pelt stats, "Zyklon–B was introduced in that Leichenkeller by means of wire mesh
columns which above ground were capped with a kind of introduction device, a chimney like introduction device." (Trial
Transcripts, 2000). In the movie they show a simulation room of what the gas chambers would have looked like along
with providing drawings from an artist by the name of David Olére a survivor of Auschwitz who was able to draw what
he saw after the war had ended. In the movie Irving compares the Olére drawings to the simulation and questions the
meaning of how the pillars came up through the roof, this is the same during the trial. Irving asks the question "What
does it mean when it says that the pillars "went up through the roof"?" van Pelt clarifies saying that the pillars went
popped out of the roof with a chimney placed on top of it due to its hollowness; further explaining the crystals of
Zyklon–B were dispensed into the gas chambers. In the movie Irving suggests that the chimney or pillars that van Pelt
are referring to are shadows, and that they never really existed coming up with the line that
