Essay on The Life of Jane Addams
Jane Addams, a pioneering social worker, helped bring attention to the possibility of revolutionizing America's
attitude toward the poor. Not only does she remain a rich source of provocative social theory to this day, her
accomplishments affected the philosophical, sociological, and political thought. Addams was an activist of courage
and a thinker of originality. Jane Addams embodied the purest moral standards of society which were best
demonstrated by her founding of the Hull–House and her societal contributions, culminating with the winning of the
1931 Nobel Peace Prize.
Jane Addams was born on September 6, 1860, the eighth child of a prominent family in the small town of
Cedarville, Illinois. Of the nine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
College was an exception rather than a rule for women in the 1870s, but John Addams approved of higher education
for women, and Jane wanted to go. In 1877, seventeen years old, Jane boarded a train at Cedarville station, and set
off for Rockford Seminary, a "female college" in Rockford, Illinois. Like the twenty–two other women in her
freshman class, Addams felt singled out for special opportunity, and she was determined to make the most of it. A
few years later, after organizing a chess club, a debating society, an amateur theatrical group and editing/writing for
the Rockford Seminary Magazine, Jane graduated and returned home to Cedarville. Jane Addams intended to carry
out her plan of attending the Women's Medical College in the fall of 1881 largely because she had to her father she
would. Jane soon realized that medical school was not for her as she found she was incapable of concentrating on
her classes, an "utter failure" and "unable to work at the best of myself." In February of 1882, she dropped out and
entered a hospital, suffering from severe back pain as well as depression. That April, Jane underwent an operation to
straighten her spine caused by an earlier childhood diagnosis, tuberculosis of the spine.
As part of young Jane's rejuvenation, her stepmother and a few other women took her on a trek through Europe,
proving to be excellent therapy. Addams's European tour improved her

Malala Yousafzai 's Life History
ousafzai– a "tremendous" young blood with sky limits had become a fighter of Freedom–Freedom to the girls from
Taliban. She became the icon and idol of thousands of girls. Long live Malala!
Malala's life history in brief
On July 12, 1997, Malala Yousafzai was conceived in Mingora, Pakistan, situated in the nation's Swat Valley. For
the initial couple of years of her life, the place where she grew up remained a famous traveler recognizes that was
known for its late spring celebrations. In any case, the territory started to change as the Taliban attempted to take
control. Around then, being a tyke, she turned into a supporter for young ladies' instruction, which brought about the
Taliban issuing a passing danger against her. On October 9, 2012, a shooter shot Malala when she was voyaging
home from school. She survived, and has kept on standing up on the significance of training. She was selected for a
Nobel Peace Prize in 2013. In 2014, she was assigned again and won, turning into the most youthful individual to

First public appearance of Malala
In October 2012, the world looked as the Taliban shot a 15–year old young lady named Malala Yousafzai on her
approach to class. The United Nations proclaimed Friday, July 12 Malala Day out of appreciation for this helpful
young lady and her sixteenth birthday. She commended the day by showing up and conveying a discourse to the UN
Youth Assembly, which just underscored the numerous ways that she has changed

Is Technology A Servant Or Master Essay
Technology: Servant or Master?
Technology can be used as a helpful tool, but when it controls someone's life it can have many negative effects.
Several scientists have conducted research proving technology can hurt someone mentally and emotionally when
used as a safety blanket instead of a helping hand. The effects include a lack of motivation, time management,
concentration, and problem–solving skills. Other effects observed are changes in emotions and relationships.
As technology has continued to grow and evolve, it has also changed how society functions and interacts. In
Christian Lange's Nobel Peace Prize speech, he says "Technology is a useful servant but a dangerous master." When
technology is used only to aid, it is a servant. It becomes the master ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Western Media Democratic Promotion Against The East
The 2010 airing of the Nobel Peace Prize awards ceremony was met with controversy from numerous ends of the
world, as its recipient was the jailed Chinese activist Liu Xiaobo. It has been argued by the Chinese government and
outlets that this event is a product of the media and by doing so critiques the broadcast as a representation of western
imperialism and as such highlights the limits of the liberal political–press model. The communist party ran
newspaper Global Times attacked the broadcast as a "political tool of Western interests", and whether agreeing or
not with this accusation, it is easy to understand why such a conclusion can be made. This case can be analysed in
some ways as a case of the western media democratic promotion against the east.
The idea of democratic supremacy can be argued thoroughly when deliberated through a political–ideological
perspective. The Nobel committee noted that the Chinese government had labelled Liu Xaiobo as a 'criminal' and
saw his prize as provocative to their judgment and rule. Though the program places itself in direct opposition to this,
with Thorbjørn Jagland stating in his speech that it is 'one of the most important decision in the peace prizes history'.
He labels the Chinese punishment of Liu as 'severe' and calls Liu the 'central spokesman for human rights' and an
'international symbol' for the struggle against China. This can in turn be viewed as a critique of 'the other' and a
direct promotion of the western model of

Humorous Wedding Speech: The Nobel Peace Prize
Thank you. Thank you your Majesty, your Royal Highness, Mr. President, Ladies and Gentlemen:
Thank you for this Nobel Peace Prize, a prize that was well fought for between me and my fellow laureate, who is
beside me today. I am here today, in Oslo, to accept this award, not for myself, but for the global cause of
environmental betterment. I accept this award on behalf of the people who have fought to keep the earth green, and
will continue to do so.
So far this year, 1.9 billion tons of waste have been dumped, 28.43 percent of coral reefs have disappeared, 11.5
billion hectares of forests have been cut down or burned. 1.1 thousand species have gone extinct. The year has not
ended.

Any person. I believe that if every one person were to use reusable bags, then the 8.9 million tons of plastic will go
down significantly. I believe that if people only purchased the amount of food they consumed and did not waste
food, then there would not be 6.5 tons of wasted fish.
I believe that people have the power to change, but we must we the one to encourage it, to play the role of moderator
to transition people to use more environmental friendly habits. This means a global mobilization of peoples and
organizations everywhere, working to educate and inform people on global warming and their part in preventing this
disaster.
Conservation is not a movement of the few, but a movement of the entire world population, of the 7.5 billion people
that are alive today. I walk around and preach this message of safe consumerism, but I know that I am only one
person that, on the grand scale of the world, I am not much. But together, all of us have the power to change
everything.
Every day, I see people walking out of stores with their own bags, or people at the register declining plastic bags. I
see people who opt to ride bikes, walk, and take public transportation instead of driving a personal vehicle. On a
bigger scale, I see companies pushing for greener practices, aiming to reduce their waste and use sustainable

Essay On Malala Yousafzai
The women who had given her life for the sake of women education and is called the bravest women in the world is
Malala Yousafazai. She fought for the women's rights to education and rights to freedom and is still fighting for it.
On October 9, 2012, Taliban shot Malala when she was traveling to home from school but she survived and
continued to speak out on the importance of education for women. ("Malala Yousafzai", 2017) Yousafzai went to a
school that her dad, Ziauddin Yousafzai, had established. After the Taliban started assaulting young ladies' schools in
Swat, Malala gave a discourse in Peshawar, Pakistan, in September 2008. The title of her discussion was, "How set

During the acceptance of Noble peace prize, she decided to speak out against the Taliban for what she believes in.
"We decided to raise our voice and tell them: Have you not learned, have you not learned that in the Holy Qur'an
Allah says: 'If you kill one person it is as if you kill the whole humanity?' Do you not know that Mohammad, peace
be upon him, the prophet of mercy, he says, 'Do not harm you or others.' ("Malala Yousafzai – Nobel Lecture",
2017) And do you not know that the very first word of the Holy Quran is the word 'Iqra', which means 'read'?". She
tells the Taliban that they are doing the wrong thing and to stop going against the teachings of Islam ("Malala's
Connection to Islam", 2017).
Reinterpretation of Quran: Taliban reinterpreted the Quran by saying that Quran dictates that women should wear
'Burqa' and should be stopped from attending schools and getting the education("The theme of Islam and Its
Interpretations in I Am Malala from LitCharts | The creators of SparkNotes", 2017). Malala also reinterpreted the
Quran by claiming that every woman has the right to education and it is up to the women if she wants to cover her
body or not. Moreover, she also questioned ' how dare the Taliban to take away her basic right to education?' She
also believed that books and pens are her powerful weapons to fight against the Taliban. ("Malala Yousafzai", 2017)

Essay On Malala Yousafzai
A young Pakistani girl, only a few years old, toddled into a classroom sparsely decorated with small desks and a
chalkboard. She walked to the front of the room and babbled in her own language as if she was lecturing a class and
sat in on the older kids lessons to soak up every bit of information available. She yearned to wear the school uniform
and start learning everything she could (Yousafzai). Malala Yousafzai began her career as a public speaker early on
in life as class representative and only became more passionate. Her first act as an opponent of the Taliban, at age
11, was an anonymous blog for the BBC about conditions in Pakistan (Thomas). Her speciality became speaking out
for equal rights, in particular, defending girls' rights ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She makes a point of Malala Day being about girls who are denied an education. Her first time speaking in front of
an audience after recovering from the attack was on her 16th birthday (Thomas). She expressed support of the UN's
goals of equal access to education and reminded her audience of those she was speaking for. Yousafzai stressed,
"today is the day of every woman, every boy and every girl who have raised their voice for their rights"
(Independent UK). On her 17th birthday, Yousafzai traveled to Nigeria to speak with the families of the girls
abducted by Boko Haram, an African Islamist group (Malala Fund). While there, she addressed the president of
Nigeria pressuring for the return of the girls abducted for pursuing an education. For her 18th birthday, she opened a
secondary school for girls in Lebanon who were forced out of Syria due to conflict. The next year, she traveled to
Kenya and Rwanda to visit girls in refugee camps (Thomas). Her visit to Kenya was meant to draw attention to the
political situation in Burundi resulting in uncalled for deaths. Yousafzai has spent her recent time on a "Girl Power
Trip" across the world to fight for education (Thomas). She isn't only visiting middle eastern and African countries,
currently she is in South America visiting girls who don't have access to an education. Malala Yousafzai is the face

Betty Williams Research Paper
Out of all thirty three living Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, I am most interested in hearing Betty Williams speak
about her efforts to inspire peace. Betty Williams was awarded the 1976 Nobel Peace Prize for her work and
devotion to bettering the lives of suffering children. The 1976 Nobel Peace Prize was jointly awarded to Betty
Williams and her partner Mairead Corrigan in 1977 because the Norwegian Nobel Committee decided that the 1976
prize had to be reserved for the following year since none of the year's candidates for the award matched the criteria
("Nobel Peace Prize 1976"). Mrs. Williams founded the Global Children's Studies Center in 1992 which eventually

to find a nonviolent resolution to the tensions between Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland. Williams drew
inspiration from Martin Luther King, Jr. and took many of the same peaceful approaches that he did. Mrs. Williams
states that "nonviolence is the weapon of the strong, not the weak."(Tucci). Aside from the Nobel Peace prize ,
Williams has been presented with a total of 24 different awards and honors such as the Martin Luther King, Jr.

Malala Yousafzai Is Not An Average Teenager
Essay on I Am Malala As part of the Noble Committee, it has come to my understanding that the time has come to
award the winner(s) of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize. There have been many people who have earned the prize from
brave activist, Martin Luther King Jr., to faithful, hard–working Mother Teresa. In order to be awarded with this
prize, our committee believes that the candidate has to make the world a better place while exhibiting the traits of
wisdom, experience, and ambition. This year, I nominate seventeen year–old Malala Yousafzai. Now, I understand
that my choice may be skeptical. After all, what has this seventeen year–old done to deserve such a prize? Most
teenagers are found hanging out with friends, working part–time jobs, or tweeting about the newest celebrity drama.
Their main concern is not about bringing peace to the world. However, I argue that Malala Yousafzai is not an
average teenager. Malala Yousafzai is a young Pakistani woman, who I believe should earn the 2014 Nobel Peace
Prize. She fits the requirement of bringing peace and equality to the world, and demonstrates bravery and courage by
fighting for girls' education. In addition, Malala had to face two challenging obstacles in her life. First of all, Malala
had to adjust to the Taliban's control over her hometown, Mingora, in 2007. This must have severely impacted
Malala because she was just ten years old when the Taliban arrived. In her book, she referred to this part of her life

Rhetorical Analysis Of Malala Yousafzai : One Girl Among...
Malala Yousafzai: "One Girl Among Many" (Rhetorical Analysis)
On October 9th, 2012, Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani student, who was on her way home from school, was shot in
the head by a Taliban member, and ultimately survived. Yousafzai had repeatedly spoken out against the Taliban's
policy of destroying schools and depriving young girls of education in the Swat Valley, Pakistan. Yousafzai's
defiance made her a prime target for the Taliban and an attempt was made on her life. Miraculously, she survived the
assassination attempt, and in 2014, she became the first Pakistani and youngest Nobel Peace Prize laureate at age 17
and delivered an acceptance speech that was meant to get people personally invested in and spur to action for her
global cause, it did an excellent job of achieving this.
The majority of Malala's speech mainly concerns the human rights abuses and deprivation of quality education
committed against her peers, or sisters as she calls them, in the Middle East and around the Muslim world. Malala
opens her speech with a line in Pashto, "Bismillah hir rahman ir rahim". (translated: "In the name of God, the most
merciful, the most beneficent.") This line helps to link Malala's heritage and culture to her speech and cultivate an
understanding of her values within her audience. I find it interesting that Malala continues to subscribe to Islam,
despite the fact that most of her grievances stem from the religion or a radical offshoot of it. Islam is a very
patriarchal religion wherein women are literally treated as second class citizens. They do not have the right to
education, they aren't allowed to leave the house unless accompanied by a man, usually their husbands. In the
Hadeeth, Muhammad is quoted as saying, "I was shown the Hell–fire and that majority of its dwellers are women".
It's an interesting testimony of her devotion to her culture and religion. She recognizes her place in Muslim society
and abides by it. I, however, cannot stand by her in that regard. She is in a place of such influence and prestige. She
is already a target of radical Islam, so why not defect now?
Despite this, she continues with a long string of thank–yous, like a typical Nobel Prize speech, and reaches the

Malala Yousafzai : The Voice Of Those 66 Million
"I am not a lone voice, I am many" ("He Named Me Malala"). Malala Yousafzai is the voice of those 66 million girls
who are being held back from a formal education. Malala is known in many different ways. For example, she is
known as the girl who got shot by the Taliban, the girl who fought for her rights, or a Nobel Laureate. However,
Malala is just a committed young girl who wants to see women having equal rights and for every child to have a
quality education. Malala was raised with a passion for attending and loving school, that not even death threats
could put her to rest. She believed that education was a right not a crime. Thus, she created the Malala Fund, which
provides girls twelve years of quality education to obtain the skills and confidence they need to thrive in their
communities. Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani young activist, promulgated her message of education for all girls
through her history, voice, and life to achieve a successful future for all women. Malala Yousafzai was raised in a
country where her passion for learning was bounded, however she continued attending school being a global
advocate for millions. Malala was born on July 12, 1997 in Mingora, a town in the Swat District of northwest
Pakistan ("He Named Me Malala"). Malala and her father received numerous death threats, "but continued to speak
out for the right to education" because like her father, she shared a passion for learning ("He Named Me Malala"). In
2011, Malala received "Pakistan 's

Elie Wiesel Reflection
Night is a brutally honest memoir of much of Elie Wiesel's childhood. When Wiesel was young he was very devoted
to his Religion, asking questions and reading scripture. When the trains were loaded Wiesel no longer had the words
to express his disdain. After setting foot in Auschwitz Wiesel felt abandoned by god and no longer believed God was
not righteous. Rightful decision he watched children burn, men get shot, women disappear to never return. Despite
all this Wiesel never truly lost his religion explaining "I was not denying His existence, but I doubted His absolute
justice."(45,Wiesel). As time passes faith was restored and like many Holocaust survivors Wiesel is still Jewish and
was proud to tell the world about it to the day he died. For the mass majority of Wiesel's tale he questioned God. The
emotion associated with this part of the book is anger. Anger is an intense emotion, but it is a secondary emotion
made by the combination of one or more primary emotion. Sadness and grief can lead to anger, along with
helplessness and confusion. These are all emotion Wiesel felt, but he was powerless needed an outlet that wouldn't
get him killed. Who else to blame but the all righteous god Wiesel states, "Some of the men spoke of God: His
mysterious ways, the sins of the Jewish people, and the redemption to come. As for me, I had ceased to pray. I
concurred with Job! I was not denying His existence, but I doubted His absolute justice" (45). Ceasing to pray does
not raise suspicion for most people, but Wiesel would cry while praying just because it felt right to him and spend
lots of time at the synagogue. He went on a rant after a 'officiating' inmate said "Blessed be the Almighty..." the
entire paragraph can be summed up very well in its last two sentences, "Praised be Thy Holy Name, for having
chosen us to be slaughtered on Thine Altar?" (67). Wiesel believed in God's existence there is no doubt about that.
Wiesel asked question to God but God didn't answer because he wasn't there, that is what angered Wiesel. His
questions turned into accusations to a well defended guilty party. Wiesel stated " I was the accuser, God the
accused." (68). The point must be made clear Wiesel still believed

The Holocaust Is Remembered As One Of The Most Vicious Events
The Holocaust is remembered as one of the most vicious events in history. We have gotten the chance to try and
comprehend the pain that such evil genocide left on many, through those who witnessed it. Who sorely revive it, in
an attempt to make sure that the world never forgets the millions of Jews that were unjustly tortured and murdered.
It is sad to realize that many of these witnesses are getting older, and that many of them have died. Among them was
author, professor, and activist Elizer "Elie" Wiesel, who just passed away a few days ago. As a professor he
influenced many, but through his novels he managed to give his readers a glimpse of the horrors he survived during
the Holocaust. He was a peaceful man who fought for human rights and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986
(Almasy, Sanchez). Many say that he was not only a leader for the Jewish community, but for all mankind (qtd. in
Maslin, Correal). Wiesel became chairman of the Presidential Commission on the Holocaust, in 1978; thanks to his
hard work the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum was established in Washington (Almasy, Sanchez).
Nonetheless, his legacy will remain alive through his precious memoirs. I think that the main point of Wiesel's
novel, Night, is to understand what Wiesel believed the Jews had lost during the Holocaust, specifically in the
concentration camps. He describes multiple moments in which fear had completely changed him and the world
around him. According to Wiesel, he felt as if the

Her use of pathos allows her to connect with the audience on an emotional level and helps drive home her argument.
Additionally, her use of ethos allows her to present herself to t audience as a reliable figure by saying, "some people

audience of her credibility by reminding them of her personal experience and that she stands as a credible source.
Malala says that the award is not only for her, but " the Nobel Peace Prize money [will be dedicated] to the Malala

the issue, which shows that she has first–hand experience with the problem and that she is dedicated to finding a

Together with strong appeals to pathos and ethos, she establishes the significance of this subject, persuading the
audience to listen to her call to action. She says "Dear sisters and brothers, dear fellow children, we must work...not

Alfred Nobel And The Nobel Peace Prize
When the word "peace" comes to mind, one usually thinks about tranquility or absent from violence but when
learning about Alfred Nobel, one learns that the products he invented were far from "peaceful" in some eyes. The
Nobel Peace Prize was created because Nobel left in his will that his fortune was to be given as awards in the areas
of: peace, chemistry, physiology, and literature. Alfred Nobel himself started with nothing and ended with a large
fortune, and as for The Nobel Peace Prize, it has evolved over the last century into new ways no one saw occurring
in the future.
Alfred Nobel was born into bankruptcy in 1833 to Immanual Nobel and Andriette Ahlsell. According to Nils
Ringertz, Alfred's father was eventually able to provide a "first–class" education to his sons that taught them
language, sciences, and literature. At the end of his academics, Nobel was particularly fascinated with English
literature and poetry. His father was not pleased by his interests so he sent him overseas to study chemical
engineering. In Paris, France, Nobel met and worked with Ascanio Sobrero, the chemist who had discovered
nitroglycerin [a highly explosive substance]. Ringertz states that "Alfred Nobel became very interested in
nitroglycerin and how it could be put to practical use in construction work," with this new interest, Nobel took the
chance with the substance and worked with it for years. In his experiments with nitroglycerin, many explosions
occurred including one in 1864 that

the US Stock Market, which affects America and the world. Although Obama barely has economic background (he
was a lawyer), he did quite a number of acts in order to improve the American economy and ultimately lifting the
world's economy standard which was trampled completely last year. He tried to overcome bankruptcies with
encouraging new companies to form with less or no tax imposed on capital gain in newly formed businesses. He
also followed the way Hitler and Hjalmar Schacht of improving the economy too, by making mega–projects for
road–building and further infrastructural projects to attract the workers and keep them away from unemployment. At
the same time, he tries his best to keep it as environmentally friendly as possible by passing the Emission act, etc. so
that he keeps the balance between 'health' of the earth and economic progress.
The US$ 787 billion bail–out plan that he has passed last year was considered a success by some experts. Although
it was not able to flip the economy upside down in one night, but it is statistically proven that it has retarded the pace
of the negative GDP since Obama took over the office early this year, although the unemployment rate is expected to
remain high.
Beside dealing with the Middle Eastern conflict and tackling the economic crisis, Obama attempted to improve the

Author of A Rose for Emily, William Faulkner's Nobel Prize...
All I have to say about A Rose for Emily is that she was a crazy person! Faulkner is a really worthy and famous
writer that has a lot to say in his writings and I think that he accomplishes that when he writes. "On December 10, he
delivered his acceptance speech to the academy in a voice so low and rapid that few could make out what he was
saying, but when his words were published in the newspaper the following day, it was recognized for its brilliance;
in later years, Faulkner's speech would be lauded as the best speech ever given at a Nobel ceremony." (Padgett)
When William Faulkner gave his Nobel Acceptance Speech he had a quote in there and I think that he helped man
endure by lifting his heart in A Rose for Emily, he also shows how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were a lot of different emotions that were represented in this selection, but Faulkner didn't tell us that the
characters were angry he used details to show us people's emotions. "Try to be better than yourself. An artist is a
creature driven by demons. He doesn't know why they choose him and he's usually too busy to wonder why. He is
completely amoral in that he will rob, borrow, beg, or steal from anybody and everybody to get the work done."
(Faulkner/Stein) When he talks he uses a lot of emotion and that shows his style of writing. William Faulkner gave a
Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech and in it he wrote about A Rose for Emily he gives himself challenges when he
writes and one of the challenges is pity and sacrifice which has been the glory of the past. When he writes he is
saying that the people who have had pity thrown upon them and the people who have made their sacrifices are the
only ones who get the glory. "The human drama in Faulkner's novels is then built on the model of the actual,
historical drama extending over almost a century and a half." (Faulkner) In A Rose for Emily this is shown when all

Malal We Must Tell Girls Their Voices
Malala:
"We must tell girls their voices are important." This quote was spoken by a seventeen year old girl named Malala
Yousafzai. Malala was born on July 12, 1997 in Mingora, the largest city in the Swat Valley in Pakistan. When
Malala was ten, the Taliban began to take control over the Swat Valley. The girls were banned from going to school
and most cultural activities were prohibited. Suicide attacks happened all over the city and the Taliban used proper
education for girls, the main focus of their terror campaign. By the time Malala was eleven, the taliban had
destroyed around 400 schools.
Since this moment, Malala stood up to the Taliban on many occasions. Alongside her father, she quickly became a
critic of their tactics. "How dare the Taliban take away my basic right to education?" she once said on Pakistani TV.
Malala continued to use the media for her public campaign for her right to go to school. Due to her voice becoming
louder, Malala became known to the Taliban and on the morning of October 9, 2012, Malala was shot by the Taliban
on her way home from school.
Seated on a bus heading home from school, Malala was talking with her friends about schoolwork. Two members of
the Taliban stopped the bus. A young bearded Talib asked for Malala by name, and fired three shots at her. One of
the bullets entered and exited her head and lodged in her shoulder. Malala was seriously wounded. That same day,
she was airlifted to a Pakistani military hospital in Peshawar

Clara Barton and the American Red Cross
Clara Barton and the American Red Cross Clara Barton was born on December 25, 1821 in Oxford, Massachusetts.
Clara was the youngest of five children in a middle class family. She was educated at home until the age of fifteen,
when Clara began teaching school herself. Though Clara Barton is probably most known for establishing the Red
Cross, she only had two years of medical experience before the war. Clara gained this experience by taking care of
her invalid (a person made weak by injury or illness) brother. When the war began in 1861, Clara had been working

She also traveled to Camp Parole, Maryland
to set up a program to help find soldiers that were missing in action.
In 1869, Clara traveled to Europe. While there, she discovered a new international organization called the Red
Cross. Clara Barton was determined to bring the organization back to the United States.
On May 21, 1881, Clara and some friends held the first meeting of the American Red Cross in Washington, D.C..
She was selected to be the president of the society at that very meeting. Clara Barton ran the organization for the
next 23 years and retired in 1904 at the age of 83. Clara Barton died on April 12, 1912.
Clara Barton was the founder of the Red Cross in America, but not in the world. The Red Cross began in
Switzerland in 1863. A man named Henri Dunant came up with the idea for the Red Cross on a business trip in Italy
in 1859. He saw a battle that involved thousands of soldiers. And when the battle was complete, the

Essay On Malala Yousafzai
Malala Yousafzai is widely known for being one of the bravest individuals fighting not only for her rights, but for
every woman located within the region dominated by the Taliban. This terroristic group is a political and religious
faction that emerged in Afghanistan in 1990. Malala's life has been full of memorable experiences: She started as a
brave figure against the Taliban's rules that women were not allowed to have an education, leading to the most
horrific event of her life. To then finishing an autobiography that sold worldwide. Following the book release she
was titled the youngest laureate to ever win a Nobel Peace Prize.

By interviewing the girls whom the group threatened made the Taliban seem almost inhumane. Malala later
appeared on televisions all across Pakistan. Which then made her a target, that the Taliban felt the need to address.
For several months Malala walked home everyday from school, but her mother decided it would be best of her to
ride the bus home. In case anything were to happen. In Swat Valley the girls that went to school traveled home after
their classes were over in buses called "dyna's" Which are basically as she describes, Toyota TownAce trucks with
parallel benches inside where the girls sit. As the girls leave the school everyday, the buses were required to pass a
checkpoint. The bus suddenly came to a stop and a bearded man in light–coloured clothes as she described flagged
down the vehicle. He then proceeded to ask the bus driver "Is this the Khushal School bus?" The driver laughed at
this question since the name of the school was printed in big letters across the side of the truck. The driver replied
"yes" the man then went on to ask for information on the girls in the bus. Which was an absurd question, the driver
knew he could not grant this man with the information he was looking for. Another man dressed in partially the
same apparel approached the back of the van. The girls first instinct was that this man was a reporter coming to ask
them questions regarding their march that took place not long ago. The

Rhetorical Devices
Women's rights is an issue that needed to be rectified. Malala Yousafzai and Hillary Clinton use rhetorical devices
such as logos, allusion, and repetition in their speeches."Address to the United Nations, July 2013" and "Excerpts
from speech given for the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women, 1995" are the speeches used to
stress the importance of women and their rights.
Primarily, Hillary uses the rhetorical device logos to persuade the audience of why women's rights are important.
According to paragraph 5 in her speech, she states, "Women comprise more than half the world's population, 70% of
the world's poor, and two–thirds of those who are not taught to read and write. We are the primary caretakers for
most of the world's children and elderly. Yet much of the work we do is not valued – not by economists, not by
historians, not by popular culture, not by government leaders." She uses statistics to show that although women do a
great amount for this world, their work isn't valued making them seem less important than their male counterparts.
Continually, the second rhetorical device used to emphasize the importance of women's rights is allusion. 'Address
to the United Nations, July 2013' states, "This is the compassion that I have learnt from Muhammad–the prophet of
mercy, Jesus Christ and Lord Buddha. This is the legacy of change that I have inherited from Martin Luther King,
Nelson Mandela and Muhammad Ali Jinnah. This is the philosophy of nonviolence that I

It all began in Skopje, Macedonia in the year of 1910 when young Agnes was born. Agnes, now known as Mother
Teresa, was the daughter of Drana and Nikola Bojaxhiu, two very religious people, who was raised to be a loving
catholic to the poor. When Agnes' father died, her mother became a dressmaker to sustain her family. She often took
Agnes "on visits to the sick, the elderly, and the lonely," (Felder 115) which really contributed to the person Agnes
became. Her mother's belief that "When you do good, do it unobtrusively, as if you were tossing a pebble into the
sea," (Felder 115) also contributed plenty to the person Agnes later became to be. Around her teenage years, she

She has helped those children whose parents once thought of aborting. The reason for this is that she believed that
"the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion." (Blaisdell 209) Mother Teresa was a woman who loved and cared
deeply for the ones in need who had forgotten what it was to love and care for them. She spent most of her life
helping the poor in both spirit and money. Because of her contributions to the world, Mother Teresa has been
awarded with several awards including the well–known Nobel Peace Prize in 1971. The Nobel Peace Prize dates
back to the death of Alfred Nobel who's one wish was to award someone with a prize for the peace they've offered to
the world. Alfred states in his will that the person who "shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity
between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace
congresses" (Nordlinger 22) will be worthy of the award. It is believed that receiving the award is one of the highest
honors a person can receive in this life. Only those who truly have tried to make a beautiful difference in the world
are worthy enough of this high honor. It is highly valuable because "it represents a summit of human achievement,
and goodness," says Jay Nordlinger, author of Peace, They Say. In 1971, Mother Teresa was awarded with the Nobel
Peace Prize for her contributions to the world and for her determination to make a difference with humility. Mother

Desmond Tutu Statement On Oppression
Humanity has always oppressed and discriminated against one another since the beginning of time. Never at a point
in history has everyone been completely equal in their civil rights and treatment. Whether the discrimination stems
from the color of one's skin to their religious beliefs to anything that separates them from the larger population, a
target has been placed upon them for others to attack. In this paper I will investigate how Desmond Tutu's statement
on oppression relates to primary texts that I viewed during the course of this semester.
As Desmond Tutu stated, "If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If
an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your
neutrality." (1984) This example has been illustrated in human treatment of one another since the start of recorded
history. Those who are viewed as different were persecuted in a variety of ways such as Perpetua being imprisoned
and sentenced to death for her religious beliefs to that of Martin Luther King Jr. who was murdered due to his
advocating of equal rights for all. Neutrality in situations of injustice helps nobody but the oppressor

Benefits Of Multiculturalism
Benefits of Canada's Multiculturalism Policy
"We may have different religions, different languages, different colored skin, but we all belong to one human race."
– Kofi Annan (Ghanaian Diplomat, 7th UN Secretary General,2001 Nobel Peace Prize Winner). In 1971, Canada
was the primary nation on the planet to implement multiculturalism as an official strategy. By doing so, Canada
ensured the esteem and pride of every single Canadian citizen paying little mind to their racial or ethnic sources,
their dialect, or their religious association. The 1971 Multiculturalism Policy of Canada likewise affirmed the
privileges of Aboriginal people groups and the status of Canada's two authority dialects. Not exclusively does
multiculturalism in Canada have an authoritative part, it likewise has legal foundations that administer it. While
there is no "multiculturalism court" in essence, key authoritative organizations of multiculturalism do have legal
structures. The Canadian Human Rights Act, for instance, is implemented by the government Human Rights
Commission and Tribunal. These bodies have the specialist to parley and intercede cases of segregation secured by
the Act. Likewise, the rights to uniformity and flexibility under the Charter are deciphered and upheld by the
Canadian legal ― specifically, the Supreme Court of Canada. Under the Charter, the courts may strike down or
change government laws and practices on the off chance that they observe them to be in opposition to natives'

A Brief Note On Malala Yousafzai And Religious Fanaticism...
History has taught us that strong men rise against religious fanaticism and oppression, however we rarely hear about
women leading the charge for their beliefs and identities. However, when we heard the news of an incredibly young
voice thundering across the world crying out for attention for her right to an education, a new chapter in history was
made. Amazingly, this is from a region known for religious fanaticism, persecutions and ostracizing for mundane
women's rights. She spoke out for her right to education and go to school without persecution. She empowered other
young girls everywhere to take a stand and fight for the right to be educated. She is Malala. (Lamb) Malala

Rhetorical analysis of Malala Yousafzai speech "Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't

Twain (the author of several American novels) said in his quote. Yousafzai started the fight for her right to education
and fundamental rights after her school was attacked in 2008. The Pakistani education activist Malala Yousafzai
used her Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech to launch an attack on governments that have the resources to begin
wars, travel into space but not to enable universal education. She won the Nobel Prize when she was seventeen.
On the 10th of December, 2014 Yousafzai became a Nobel laureate. Malala's Nobel Prize acceptance speech is more
than you would expect from a sixteen year old child. During the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony, which took place in
Oslo, Yousafzai raised her voice in a silent room in the presence of a distinguished audience to say what she believes

Analysis Of. Eliot 's ' The Four Quartets ' And `` The...
I. Introduction to T.S Eliot
T.S. Eliot wrote poems that communicated his antagonistic perspectives of life, mankind, and his general
surroundings by exemplifying and escalating particular angles and analogies in his written work.
T.S. Eliot was born in 1888 and lived during early 1900 's and was a part of Modernist Period. He lived throughout
two world wars and struggled with poverty and oppression which impacted his writings.
Eliot wrote "The Four Quartets" and "The Waste Land" which are important because they have tremendously
influential themes and catapulted him to the foreground of the Modernist Movement of poetry.
II. Author Bio
Eliot carried on with an existence loaded with tension yet was resolved to conquer any deterrents to accomplish a
higher status in the literary world.
"He and Vivien settled in London the same year, but they experienced a troubled relationship from the start, due in a

A Presentation Of A Swedish Man By Alfred Nobel
A Swedish man by the name of Alfred Nobel, is credited for designing the Nobel Prizes. This former chemist,
engineer, and inventor, known for being a technical genius, started giving these prizes in 1901. Alfred Nobel did this
simply because he wanted to award and give back to those who had done their best to benefit mankind in either one
of the six categories; physics, chemistry, medicine, literature, peace, or economic science.
Every year, on December 10th, there is a presentation speech on the laureates work and their discovery. The
presentation takes place after the King of Sweden hands the laureate their prize. The prize awarded to the laureate
consists of a medal, a personal diploma, and money. This yearly tradition has been going on for over 100 years. It
has been awarded 573 times to 900 different people and organizations. Martin Luther King was 1 out of the 900
people who have been awarded a Nobel Prize. Just like King, who specifically won a Nobel Peace Prize, Barack
Obama, Jimmy Carter, and Nelson Mandela are a few other laureates who have also had the pleasure of receiving
the same prize.
Martin Luther King, a negro leader during the civil rights movement, had one goal. His goal consisted of ending
racial justice and establishing a reign of freedom. King wanted to lead the negroes in speaking out against the white
race for the cruel punishment they received. On behalf all negroes and their feelings, King finally thought it was
time to speak up and share the

Malala Yousafzai on Education
Malala Yousafzai believes that education is a basic right for every person. Malala, born July twelfth, nineteen
ninety–seven is an activist for girls education. She was shot at just fifteen years old as a result of her life as an
activist. Malala was nominated for the twenty–thirteen Nobel Peace Prize, but she did not win it. Many people have
mixed feelings about the outcome of her nomination for the prestigious award. Malala believes that education is the
basic right of boys and girls, men and women everywhere. The controversy which surrounds her life is a direct result
of these beliefs, and is the reason she was shot. October ninth, two–thousand twelve, fifteen year old Malala
Yousafzai boarded a school bus which would take her and other students home from school. The school bus was
stopped by two members of the Pakistani Taliban. One went to the front of the bus to interrogate the bus driver. The
second man entered the passenger part of the bus, called for Malala by name and fired three times. One of the bullets
hit Malala at point blank near her left eye, traveled down into her shoulder and became lodged. Malala was rushed to
a military hospital for medical treatment. She was later transferred to another Pakistani hospital, where she
continued to receive care. It was here that she was given a 70% chance of survival. After her stay in Pakistani
hospitals over the period of six days, Malala was flown to the Queen Elizabeth hospital in Birmingham, England.

The Rigoberta Menchu Controversy
The Rigoberta Menchú Controversy
I, Rigoberta Menchú at first seems like an autobiography, but that is not what it is meant to be. Menchú wrote the
book as a testimony of her people's lives to be a voice for her people and show the world what is going on. There
was a lot of controversy about whether Rigoberta deserved the Nobel Peace Prize, and if this book should be taught
to students. There are allegations that she fabricated a lot of the story. People say that the book is not an accurate
portrayal of her life. Considering that Menchú said, "I'd like to stress that it's not only my life, it's also the testimony
of my people", the reader should know that this book was not meant to be an autobiography. Menchú powerfully

In the course of his research Stoll never interviewed Menchú herself. Stoll begins the preface of his book by
asserting that there is "no doubt about the most important points" Menchú makes (viii). Moreover, despite press
reports about requests to the Nobel Prize Committee to rescind the Peace Prize after the Times article, in his book
Stoll states that he believes awarding the Nobel Prize to Rigoberta Menchú was a "good idea" and that "she has been
the first to acknowledge that she received it, not for her own accomplishments but because she stands for a wider
group of people who deserve international support." (ix) The prize was awarded to Menchú not for her testimony but
for her later political work and peace organizing. Specifically, Stoll's research leads him to confirm the following
information in Menchú's testimony. In her testimony Rigoberta states that her father was burned alive when the army
attacked the Spanish Embassy he was occupying to protest human rights abuses, an occurrence that is widely known
in Guatemala. Stoll believes Menchú's account of the events at the embassy is more balanced than most others.
Rigoberta also stated that her mother was detained, raped, tortured, killed, and her body was mutilated by the
Guatemalan army. Rigoberta Menchú's horrific description of what happened to her

Sheldon Cooper is a character in the fictional television show, "The Big Bang Theory". Sheldon is extremely
knowledgeable and brilliant in the things he knows and is passionate about, but everything else that doesn't interest
him, he completely ignores. Sheldon is a theoretical physicist at Caltech, having earned his B.S., M.S., M.A., Ph.D.,
and Sc.D. He lives with his roommate and Caltech colleague, Leonard Hofstadter, an experimental physicist. Having
lived together for 10 years, the two have become best friends. Leonard often times feels obligated to explain
Sheldon's behavior and serve as a mediator between him and the people he is interacting with. The two are usually

Penny started to cry when she wasn't understanding anything. When Sheldon asks her why she is crying, she
responds, "Because I'm stupid!" to which Sheldon responds, "That's no reason to cry. One cries because one is sad.
For example, I cry because others are stupid, and that makes me sad." Another example comes from Sheldon feeling
like he is deserving of a Nobel Peace Prize. He is having a conversation with a former Peace Prize winner, Dr.
Smoot, and says, "You won the Nobel prize, what, three years ago? So you must deal with a whole lot of "what has
Smoot done lately?" My thought is we continue my research as team, you know, Cooper–Smoot, alphabetical..
When we win the Nobel Prize, you'll be back on top." Dr. Smoot replies saying, "With all due respect, Dr. Cooper,
are you on crack?" to which Sheldon responds, "Fine, Smoot–Cooper, what a diva!" Sheldon doesn't think that what
is saying is offensive in anyway, because he is too consumed in himself.
Another disorder I would diagnose Sheldon with is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, or OCD. People with OCD
have the need for everything to be perfect and having to be in control of everything. Someone with OCD also does
well with lists and schedules and does not like to stray from them. These characteristics both apply to Sheldon. One
thing Sheldon does, that is often seen as comical, is having a roommate agreement with Leonard. It is essentially a
contract that states the protocol for every

Essay On The Life Of Jane Addams

  • 1. Essay on The Life of Jane Addams Jane Addams, a pioneering social worker, helped bring attention to the possibility of revolutionizing America's attitude toward the poor. Not only does she remain a rich source of provocative social theory to this day, her accomplishments affected the philosophical, sociological, and political thought. Addams was an activist of courage and a thinker of originality. Jane Addams embodied the purest moral standards of society which were best demonstrated by her founding of the Hull–House and her societal contributions, culminating with the winning of the 1931 Nobel Peace Prize. Jane Addams was born on September 6, 1860, the eighth child of a prominent family in the small town of Cedarville, Illinois. Of the nine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... College was an exception rather than a rule for women in the 1870s, but John Addams approved of higher education for women, and Jane wanted to go. In 1877, seventeen years old, Jane boarded a train at Cedarville station, and set off for Rockford Seminary, a "female college" in Rockford, Illinois. Like the twenty–two other women in her freshman class, Addams felt singled out for special opportunity, and she was determined to make the most of it. A few years later, after organizing a chess club, a debating society, an amateur theatrical group and editing/writing for the Rockford Seminary Magazine, Jane graduated and returned home to Cedarville. Jane Addams intended to carry out her plan of attending the Women's Medical College in the fall of 1881 largely because she had to her father she would. Jane soon realized that medical school was not for her as she found she was incapable of concentrating on her classes, an "utter failure" and "unable to work at the best of myself." In February of 1882, she dropped out and entered a hospital, suffering from severe back pain as well as depression. That April, Jane underwent an operation to straighten her spine caused by an earlier childhood diagnosis, tuberculosis of the spine. As part of young Jane's rejuvenation, her stepmother and a few other women took her on a trek through Europe, proving to be excellent therapy. Addams's European tour improved her ... • 5. Is Technology A Servant Or Master Essay Technology: Servant or Master? Technology can be used as a helpful tool, but when it controls someone's life it can have many negative effects. Several scientists have conducted research proving technology can hurt someone mentally and emotionally when used as a safety blanket instead of a helping hand. The effects include a lack of motivation, time management, concentration, and problem–solving skills. Other effects observed are changes in emotions and relationships. As technology has continued to grow and evolve, it has also changed how society functions and interacts. In Christian Lange's Nobel Peace Prize speech, he says "Technology is a useful servant but a dangerous master." When technology is used only to aid, it is a servant. It becomes the master ... • 7. The Western Media Democratic Promotion Against The East The 2010 airing of the Nobel Peace Prize awards ceremony was met with controversy from numerous ends of the world, as its recipient was the jailed Chinese activist Liu Xiaobo. It has been argued by the Chinese government and outlets that this event is a product of the media and by doing so critiques the broadcast as a representation of western imperialism and as such highlights the limits of the liberal political–press model. The communist party ran newspaper Global Times attacked the broadcast as a "political tool of Western interests", and whether agreeing or not with this accusation, it is easy to understand why such a conclusion can be made. This case can be analysed in some ways as a case of the western media democratic promotion against the east. The idea of democratic supremacy can be argued thoroughly when deliberated through a political–ideological perspective. The Nobel committee noted that the Chinese government had labelled Liu Xaiobo as a 'criminal' and saw his prize as provocative to their judgment and rule. Though the program places itself in direct opposition to this, with Thorbjørn Jagland stating in his speech that it is 'one of the most important decision in the peace prizes history'. He labels the Chinese punishment of Liu as 'severe' and calls Liu the 'central spokesman for human rights' and an 'international symbol' for the struggle against China. This can in turn be viewed as a critique of 'the other' and a direct promotion of the western model of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thank you your Majesty, your Royal Highness, Mr. President, Ladies and Gentlemen: Thank you for this Nobel Peace Prize, a prize that was well fought for between me and my fellow laureate, who is beside me today. I am here today, in Oslo, to accept this award, not for myself, but for the global cause of environmental betterment. I accept this award on behalf of the people who have fought to keep the earth green, and will continue to do so. So far this year, 1.9 billion tons of waste have been dumped, 28.43 percent of coral reefs have disappeared, 11.5 billion hectares of forests have been cut down or burned. 1.1 thousand species have gone extinct. She fought for the women's rights to education and rights to freedom and is still fighting for it. On October 9, 2012, Taliban shot Malala when she was traveling to home from school but she survived and continued to speak out on the importance of education for women. ("Malala Yousafzai", 2017) Yousafzai went to a school that her dad, Ziauddin Yousafzai, had established. Malala also reinterpreted the Quran by claiming that every woman has the right to education and it is up to the women if she wants to cover her body or not. Moreover, she also questioned ' how dare the Taliban to take away her basic right to education?' She also believed that books and pens are her powerful weapons to fight against the Taliban. • 13. Essay On Malala Yousafzai A young Pakistani girl, only a few years old, toddled into a classroom sparsely decorated with small desks and a chalkboard. She walked to the front of the room and babbled in her own language as if she was lecturing a class and sat in on the older kids lessons to soak up every bit of information available. She yearned to wear the school uniform and start learning everything she could (Yousafzai). Malala Yousafzai began her career as a public speaker early on in life as class representative and only became more passionate. Her first act as an opponent of the Taliban, at age 11, was an anonymous blog for the BBC about conditions in Pakistan (Thomas). Yousafzai stressed, "today is the day of every woman, every boy and every girl who have raised their voice for their rights" (Independent UK). On her 17th birthday, Yousafzai traveled to Nigeria to speak with the families of the girls abducted by Boko Haram, an African Islamist group (Malala Fund). While there, she addressed the president of Nigeria pressuring for the return of the girls abducted for pursuing an education. For her 18th birthday, she opened a secondary school for girls in Lebanon who were forced out of Syria due to conflict. The next year, she traveled to Kenya and Rwanda to visit girls in refugee camps (Thomas). • 15. Betty Williams Research Paper Out of all thirty three living Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, I am most interested in hearing Betty Williams speak about her efforts to inspire peace. Betty Williams was awarded the 1976 Nobel Peace Prize for her work and devotion to bettering the lives of suffering children. The 1976 Nobel Peace Prize was jointly awarded to Betty Williams and her partner Mairead Corrigan in 1977 because the Norwegian Nobel Committee decided that the 1976 prize had to be reserved for the following year since none of the year's candidates for the award matched the criteria ("Nobel Peace Prize 1976"). • 17. Malala Yousafzai Is Not An Average Teenager Essay on I Am Malala As part of the Noble Committee, it has come to my understanding that the time has come to award the winner(s) of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize. There have been many people who have earned the prize from brave activist, Martin Luther King Jr., to faithful, hard–working Mother Teresa. In order to be awarded with this prize, our committee believes that the candidate has to make the world a better place while exhibiting the traits of wisdom, experience, and ambition. This year, I nominate seventeen year–old Malala Yousafzai. Now, I understand that my choice may be skeptical. After all, what has this seventeen year–old done to deserve such a prize? Most teenagers are found hanging out with friends, working part–time jobs, or tweeting about the newest celebrity drama. Their main concern is not about bringing peace to the world. However, I argue that Malala Yousafzai is not an average teenager. Malala Yousafzai is a young Pakistani woman, who I believe should earn the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize. She fits the requirement of bringing peace and equality to the world, and demonstrates bravery and courage by fighting for girls' education. In addition, Malala had to face two challenging obstacles in her life. First of all, Malala had to adjust to the Taliban's control over her hometown, Mingora, in 2007. This must have severely impacted Malala because she was just ten years old when the Taliban arrived. In her book, she referred to this part of her life as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Rhetorical Analysis Of Malala Yousafzai : One Girl Among... Malala Yousafzai: "One Girl Among Many" (Rhetorical Analysis) On October 9th, 2012, Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani student, who was on her way home from school, was shot in the head by a Taliban member, and ultimately survived. Yousafzai had repeatedly spoken out against the Taliban's policy of destroying schools and depriving young girls of education in the Swat Valley, Pakistan. Yousafzai's defiance made her a prime target for the Taliban and an attempt was made on her life. Miraculously, she survived the assassination attempt, and in 2014, she became the first Pakistani and youngest Nobel Peace Prize laureate at age 17 and delivered an acceptance speech that was meant to get people personally invested in and spur to action for her global cause, it did an excellent job of achieving this. The majority of Malala's speech mainly concerns the human rights abuses and deprivation of quality education committed against her peers, or sisters as she calls them, in the Middle East and around the Muslim world. Malala opens her speech with a line in Pashto, "Bismillah hir rahman ir rahim". (translated: "In the name of God, the most merciful, the most beneficent.") This line helps to link Malala's heritage and culture to her speech and cultivate an understanding of her values within her audience. I find it interesting that Malala continues to subscribe to Islam, despite the fact that most of her grievances stem from the religion or a radical offshoot of it. Islam is a very patriarchal religion wherein women are literally treated as second class citizens. They do not have the right to education, they aren't allowed to leave the house unless accompanied by a man, usually their husbands. In the Hadeeth, Muhammad is quoted as saying, "I was shown the Hell–fire and that majority of its dwellers are women". It's an interesting testimony of her devotion to her culture and religion. She recognizes her place in Muslim society and abides by it. I, however, cannot stand by her in that regard. She is in a place of such influence and prestige. She is already a target of radical Islam, so why not defect now? Despite this, she continues with a long string of thank–yous, like a typical Nobel Prize speech, and reaches the ... Malala Yousafzai is the voice of those 66 million girls who are being held back from a formal education. Malala is known in many different ways. For example, she is known as the girl who got shot by the Taliban, the girl who fought for her rights, or a Nobel Laureate. However, Malala is just a committed young girl who wants to see women having equal rights and for every child to have a quality education. Malala was raised with a passion for attending and loving school, that not even death threats could put her to rest. She believed that education was a right not a crime. Thus, she created the Malala Fund, which provides girls twelve years of quality education to obtain the skills and confidence they need to thrive in their communities. Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani young activist, promulgated her message of education for all girls through her history, voice, and life to achieve a successful future for all women. Malala Yousafzai was raised in a country where her passion for learning was bounded, however she continued attending school being a global advocate for millions. Malala was born on July 12, 1997 in Mingora, a town in the Swat District of northwest Pakistan ("He Named Me Malala"). Malala and her father received numerous death threats, "but continued to speak out for the right to education" because like her father, she shared a passion for learning ("He Named Me Malala"). • 23. Elie Wiesel Reflection Night is a brutally honest memoir of much of Elie Wiesel's childhood. When Wiesel was young he was very devoted to his Religion, asking questions and reading scripture. When the trains were loaded Wiesel no longer had the words to express his disdain. After setting foot in Auschwitz Wiesel felt abandoned by god and no longer believed God was not righteous. Rightful decision he watched children burn, men get shot, women disappear to never return. Despite all this Wiesel never truly lost his religion explaining "I was not denying His existence, but I doubted His absolute justice."(45,Wiesel). As time passes faith was restored and like many Holocaust survivors Wiesel is still Jewish and was proud to tell the world about it to the day he died. For the mass majority of Wiesel's tale he questioned God. The emotion associated with this part of the book is anger. Anger is an intense emotion, but it is a secondary emotion made by the combination of one or more primary emotion. Sadness and grief can lead to anger, along with helplessness and confusion. These are all emotion Wiesel felt, but he was powerless needed an outlet that wouldn't get him killed. Who else to blame but the all righteous god Wiesel states, "Some of the men spoke of God: His mysterious ways, the sins of the Jewish people, and the redemption to come. As for me, I had ceased to pray. I concurred with Job! I was not denying His existence, but I doubted His absolute justice" (45). Ceasing to pray does not raise suspicion for most people, but Wiesel would cry while praying just because it felt right to him and spend lots of time at the synagogue. He went on a rant after a 'officiating' inmate said "Blessed be the Almighty..." the entire paragraph can be summed up very well in its last two sentences, "Praised be Thy Holy Name, for having chosen us to be slaughtered on Thine Altar?" (67). Wiesel believed in God's existence there is no doubt about that. Wiesel asked question to God but God didn't answer because he wasn't there, that is what angered Wiesel. His questions turned into accusations to a well defended guilty party. Wiesel stated " I was the accuser, God the accused." (68). The point must be made clear Wiesel still believed ... We have gotten the chance to try and comprehend the pain that such evil genocide left on many, through those who witnessed it. Who sorely revive it, in an attempt to make sure that the world never forgets the millions of Jews that were unjustly tortured and murdered. It is sad to realize that many of these witnesses are getting older, and that many of them have died. Among them was author, professor, and activist Elizer "Elie" Wiesel, who just passed away a few days ago. As a professor he influenced many, but through his novels he managed to give his readers a glimpse of the horrors he survived during the Holocaust. He was a peaceful man who fought for human rights and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986 (Almasy, Sanchez). Many say that he was not only a leader for the Jewish community, but for all mankind (qtd. in Maslin, Correal). Wiesel became chairman of the Presidential Commission on the Holocaust, in 1978; thanks to his hard work the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum was established in Washington (Almasy, Sanchez). Nonetheless, his legacy will remain alive through his precious memoirs. I think that the main point of Wiesel's novel, Night, is to understand what Wiesel believed the Jews had lost during the Holocaust, specifically in the concentration camps. • 33. Alfred Nobel And The Nobel Peace Prize When the word "peace" comes to mind, one usually thinks about tranquility or absent from violence but when learning about Alfred Nobel, one learns that the products he invented were far from "peaceful" in some eyes. The Nobel Peace Prize was created because Nobel left in his will that his fortune was to be given as awards in the areas of: peace, chemistry, physiology, and literature. Alfred Nobel himself started with nothing and ended with a large fortune, and as for The Nobel Peace Prize, it has evolved over the last century into new ways no one saw occurring in the future. Alfred Nobel was born into bankruptcy in 1833 to Immanual Nobel and Andriette Ahlsell. According to Nils Ringertz, Alfred's father was eventually able to provide a "first–class" education to his sons that taught them language, sciences, and literature. At the end of his academics, Nobel was particularly fascinated with English literature and poetry. His father was not pleased by his interests so he sent him overseas to study chemical engineering. In Paris, France, Nobel met and worked with Ascanio Sobrero, the chemist who had discovered nitroglycerin [a highly explosive substance]. Ringertz states that "Alfred Nobel became very interested in nitroglycerin and how it could be put to practical use in construction work," with this new interest, Nobel took the chance with the substance and worked with it for years. In his experiments with nitroglycerin, many explosions occurred including one in 1864 that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Another big problem that is haunting America and the world right now is the last–year economic recession that hit the US Stock Market, which affects America and the world. Although Obama barely has economic background (he was a lawyer), he did quite a number of acts in order to improve the American economy and ultimately lifting the world's economy standard which was trampled completely last year. He tried to overcome bankruptcies with encouraging new companies to form with less or no tax imposed on capital gain in newly formed businesses. He also followed the way Hitler and Hjalmar Schacht of improving the economy too, by making mega–projects for road–building and further infrastructural projects to attract the workers and keep them away from unemployment. At the same time, he tries his best to keep it as environmentally friendly as possible by passing the Emission act, etc. so that he keeps the balance between 'health' of the earth and economic progress. The US$ 787 billion bail–out plan that he has passed last year was considered a success by some experts. "On December 10, he delivered his acceptance speech to the academy in a voice so low and rapid that few could make out what he was saying, but when his words were published in the newspaper the following day, it was recognized for its brilliance; in later years, Faulkner's speech would be lauded as the best speech ever given at a Nobel ceremony." As the girls leave the school everyday, the buses were required to pass a checkpoint. The bus suddenly came to a stop and a bearded man in light–coloured clothes as she described flagged down the vehicle. He then proceeded to ask the bus driver "Is this the Khushal School bus?" The driver laughed at this question since the name of the school was printed in big letters across the side of the truck. The driver replied "yes" the man then went on to ask for information on the girls in the bus. Which was an absurd question, the driver knew he could not grant this man with the information he was looking for. Another man dressed in partially the same apparel approached the back of the van. The girls first instinct was that this man was a reporter coming to ask them questions regarding their march that took place not long ago. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Rhetorical Devices Women's rights is an issue that needed to be rectified. Malala Yousafzai and Hillary Clinton use rhetorical devices such as logos, allusion, and repetition in their speeches."Address to the United Nations, July 2013" and "Excerpts from speech given for the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women, 1995" are the speeches used to stress the importance of women and their rights. Primarily, Hillary uses the rhetorical device logos to persuade the audience of why women's rights are important. According to paragraph 5 in her speech, she states, "Women comprise more than half the world's population, 70% of the world's poor, and two–thirds of those who are not taught to read and write. We are the primary caretakers for most of the world's children and elderly. Yet much of the work we do is not valued – not by economists, not by historians, not by popular culture, not by government leaders." She uses statistics to show that although women do a great amount for this world, their work isn't valued making them seem less important than their male counterparts. Continually, the second rhetorical device used to emphasize the importance of women's rights is allusion. 'Address to the United Nations, July 2013' states, "This is the compassion that I have learnt from Muhammad–the prophet of mercy, Jesus Christ and Lord Buddha. This is the legacy of change that I have inherited from Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela and Muhammad Ali Jinnah. This is the philosophy of nonviolence that I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Agnes, now known as Mother Teresa, was the daughter of Drana and Nikola Bojaxhiu, two very religious people, who was raised to be a loving catholic to the poor. When Agnes' father died, her mother became a dressmaker to sustain her family. She often took Agnes "on visits to the sick, the elderly, and the lonely," (Felder 115) which really contributed to the person Agnes became. Her mother's belief that "When you do good, do it unobtrusively, as if you were tossing a pebble into the sea," (Felder 115) also contributed plenty to the person Agnes later became to be. Around her teenage years, she joined the Loreto order, a group of nuns who taught in Calcutta. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She spent most of her life helping the poor in both spirit and money. Because of her contributions to the world, Mother Teresa has been awarded with several awards including the well–known Nobel Peace Prize in 1971. The Nobel Peace Prize dates back to the death of Alfred Nobel who's one wish was to award someone with a prize for the peace they've offered to the world. Alfred states in his will that the person who "shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses" (Nordlinger 22) will be worthy of the award. It is believed that receiving the award is one of the highest honors a person can receive in this life. Only those who truly have tried to make a beautiful difference in the world are worthy enough of this high honor. It is highly valuable because "it represents a summit of human achievement, and goodness," says Jay Nordlinger, author of Peace, They Say. Never at a point in history has everyone been completely equal in their civil rights and treatment. Whether the discrimination stems from the color of one's skin to their religious beliefs to anything that separates them from the larger population, a target has been placed upon them for others to attack. In this paper I will investigate how Desmond Tutu's statement on oppression relates to primary texts that I viewed during the course of this semester. As Desmond Tutu stated, "If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality." (1984) This example has been illustrated in human treatment of one another since the start of recorded history. Those who are viewed as different were persecuted in a variety of ways such as Perpetua being imprisoned and sentenced to death for her religious beliefs to that of Martin Luther King Jr. who was murdered due to his advocating of equal rights for all. Benefits Of Multiculturalism Benefits of Canada's Multiculturalism Policy "We may have different religions, different languages, different colored skin, but we all belong to one human race." – Kofi Annan (Ghanaian Diplomat, 7th UN Secretary General,2001 Nobel Peace Prize Winner). In 1971, Canada was the primary nation on the planet to implement multiculturalism as an official strategy. By doing so, Canada ensured the esteem and pride of every single Canadian citizen paying little mind to their racial or ethnic sources, their dialect, or their religious association. The 1971 Multiculturalism Policy of Canada likewise affirmed the privileges of Aboriginal people groups and the status of Canada's two authority dialects. Not exclusively does multiculturalism in Canada have an authoritative part, it likewise has legal foundations that administer it. While there is no "multiculturalism court" in essence, key authoritative organizations of multiculturalism do have legal structures. The Canadian Human Rights Act, for instance, is implemented by the government Human Rights Commission and Tribunal. These bodies have the specialist to parley and intercede cases of segregation secured by the Act. Likewise, the rights to uniformity and flexibility under the Charter are deciphered and upheld by the Canadian legal ― specifically, the Supreme Court of Canada. Obama provides a simple yet strong illustration of the hardships and obstacles faced when Striving for change. The statement made by Obama holds the same meaning when trying to Change communities that are like Irvington. Both Martin Luther King and Barrack Obama have a Superb comprehension of the extreme and diverse difficulties faced in African–American Communities. For instance King stated, "One hundred year later, the negro is still languishing in the corners of American society and finds himself an exile in his own land." This quote shines an Illuminating light on the problems seen in Irvington, because we have allowed other Communities to surpass us. While we quarrel and argue amongst each other, we do not see that we are lagging behind the rest of New Jersey and The United States. This township is in critical condition, because the sense of unity, dreams, and change has been lost. To revive our fair township of Irvington we must recover from the phlegmatic state which we are so accustomed to and take action, or like a house with a weak foundation the town will soon crumble to the ground. To begin improving the living standards of Irvington the community, we must come together, scrutinize the community, and solve our basic problems. Then, this township can advance. In the words ... History has taught us that strong men rise against religious fanaticism and oppression, however we rarely hear about women leading the charge for their beliefs and identities. However, when we heard the news of an incredibly young voice thundering across the world crying out for attention for her right to an education, a new chapter in history was made. Amazingly, this is from a region known for religious fanaticism, persecutions and ostracizing for mundane women's rights. She spoke out for her right to education and go to school without persecution. She empowered other young girls everywhere to take a stand and fight for the right to be educated. She is Malala. (Lamb) Malala Yousafzai was born on July 12, 1997 in the residential community of Mingora in the Swat District of Pakistan. She began composing a website, at the age of 12 under a fictitious name of Gul Makai, where she captured the issues she and her peers were facing under the regulations of the fundamentalist Taliban rule. In her web journal, she discussed the perspectives of the Taliban 's dictum, and how they were entirely against young girls being taught or empowered to work alongside men.The Taliban had banned schools for young girls in the Swat valley of Pakistan. They had foretold everybody about the outcomes of going against their wishes. If anyone contradicted the rules enforced, the Taliban would not hesitate to execute them. Malala Yousafzai, a teenager and the youngest Nobel Prize winner is a testimony to what Mark Twain (the author of several American novels) said in his quote. Yousafzai started the fight for her right to education and fundamental rights after her school was attacked in 2008. The Pakistani education activist Malala Yousafzai used her Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech to launch an attack on governments that have the resources to begin wars, travel into space but not to enable universal education. She won the Nobel Prize when she was seventeen. On the 10th of December, 2014 Yousafzai became a Nobel laureate. Malala's Nobel Prize acceptance speech is more than you would expect from a sixteen year old child. During the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony, which took place in Oslo, Yousafzai raised her voice in a silent room in the presence of a distinguished audience to say what she believes is right. She began the speech by saying a very short prayer in her Islam. She greats her audience and salutes the Nobel Peace Prize committee for selecting her for the award.
