Christ Revealed Throughout The Bible
Christ Revealed Throughout the Bible
The Christ prophesied in the Old Testament is the Jesus in the New Testament! I am going to trace
Christ from Genesis to Revelations to show He is the same person in both the old and the new
covenant. It is important to put the Old and New Testament together to get a better understand of
who Jesus is, and what He did. I will be using my many years of studying the Bible along with
commentaries and the Bible itself to prove my point. I am going to show Christ can be seen
throughout the Bible, from Genesis to Revelations.
Sometimes people do not understand how a God of love could have such wrath and demand
punishment for sin. We must understand that God is holy and cannot tolerate sin. He cannot just
overlook wickedness. (Laney). There must be punishment and payment for it. This is why God had
to give punishment for sin, but in His love He prepared a way to redeem the sinners. His plan to
save humankind can be found in the promise of Christ, God's Son, who is to pay the penalty for all
our sins.
Genesis is the Greek word for beginning (MacDonald.) Genesis is a great place to start searching for
Christ. Soon into the book of Genesis God is giving the punishment to Adam and Eve for their
disobedience. God then gives the serpent his punishment. God told the Serpent, "And I will put
enmity between you and the woman and between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise your head,
and you shall bruise His heel" (Genesis 3:15). This verse is

Comparing The Prophets Of Haggai, Zechariah And Malachi
Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi were the three prophets from the period following the Babylonian
captivity. It was in 538 B. C. when Cyrus king of Persia issued a decree allowing the Jews to return
to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple (NIV Study Bible, 2008: 1418). That period was called
"Restoration Period" or post–exilic period. Haggai was a post–captivity prophet when Zerubbabel
led the first group back from Babylon. Together with Zechariah, they were concerned with the
rebuilding of the temple which had been destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar and the Babylonians (Hag.
1–2; Zech. 4:8 NKJV). By that time people were living comfortably in their paneled houses, his first
message was to warn the people that if they continued to neglect the Lord's house, they could expect
nothing but drought. They obeyed the word of the Lord and began rebuilding the temple (Haggai
1:12–15 NKJV) (http://home.hiwaay.net/~wgann/walk/malachi.htm).
Zechariah started his prophecy in 520 B.C., the same year that Haggai ministered but for only three
years. It was in the eighth month of the second year of the Persian king Darius (Zech. 1:1 NKJV).

They started to treat one another faithlessly and marrying the pagan women (Bible Dictionary,

term as governor, according to J. D. W. Watts (Introduction to the Book of Malachi, Rev Ex 84
(1987):373–74), Malachi is the last prophets of the 12 Minor Prophets. It has all the prophetic
collection from the prophet Moses with the law and the prophet Elijah with the promise and the very
end of the Christian canon (https://bible.org/book/export/html/6305). Like Haggai, he uses a number

The Early Life Of Saint Elizabeth Of The Visitation
"So Abraham received what God promised because he waited patiently for it." That's what Hebrews
6:15 says. Just like Abraham, Saint Elizabeth was patient and gained what she had longed for
through the grace of God. Imagine that you are Saint Elizabeth. You are disappointed that you were
never blessed with a child, but you never become bitter from it. You are always humble and put God
first. You and Zechariah pray every day for a child. Your prayers are never answered, but you still
remain faithful to God. Saint Elizabeth of the Visitation, who is still venerated in the Church today,
was the cousin of Mary, the mother of John the Baptist, and the first to acknowledge the importance
Mary's pregnancy.
Little is known about Saint Elizabeth's early life. She was born in the 1st century BC ("Saint
Elizabeth of the Visitation" 5). She was a descendant of Aaron, Moses' brother ("Elizabeth (Biblical
person)" 4). Her mother was named Sobe, and Mary's mother was Anne, which made Elizabeth and
Mary cousins ("Elizabeth (Biblical person)" 3). Elizabeth is also known as Elisabeth or Elisheva
(which was also Aaron's wife's name) ("Elizabeth (Biblical person)" 1). In Hebrew (‫ע‬‫ַב‬ ‫יֶׁש‬‫)ֱאִל‬,
Elizabeth's name means, "An oath to my God" ("Elizabeth (Biblical person") 1). She lived in the hill
country near Judea with her husband Zechariah ("Elizabeth (Biblical person)" 6). Elizabeth became
a saint because of her actions and through the help of many different people. Saint Elizabeth's last

Haggai, Zechariah, And Malachi
While there is some speculation in regards to the authorship of Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi, the
general scholarly consensus is that all three share titular authors. Haggai and Zechariah were
contemporaries; however, while Haggai's messages were only in a short period in 520 b.c.,
Zechariah's ministry stretched from 520 b.c., until after 480 b.c. Malachi was likely a contemporary
of Nehemiah, and it is likely that his book was written in 433 b.c., right after Nehemiah returned
from Persia. (NIV Study Bible)
Haggai is divided into four different messages: He begins with a call to rebuild the temple,
explaining how the people's refusal to rebuild the Lord's house has brought curses upon them. He
then encourages the people in his second message, instructing the people ... Show more content on

His third message largely addresses the principles of being unclean. Haggai's final message speaks
to Zerubbabel of the eventual defeat of the Gentile kingdoms that have opposed Israel for so long. It
is in this message that he reveals that Zerubbabel is chosen of the Lord. Zechariah is also divided
into four sections. It begins with a call to repentance, then later describes eight separate visions
Zechariah has in the same night. The second section ends with an oracle about Joshua. The third
message of Zechariah rebukes the people for how they have turned away from God. It explains how
the Israelites have ignored God in their rituals and placed more importance in the rituals themselves
than God. The final area of Zechariah is about two oracles. One concerns the coming and
subsequent rejection of Christ, then the second coming and reception of

The Shepherd Motif In The Bible
Roman, in response to your thread you quote Laniak as saying "Isaiah was clear about satire of
biblical leadership: to rule is to serve and to suffer, and to lead is to be both shepherd and sacrificial
lamb (Laniak, 129). This reference indeed is a clear demonstration of the shepherd motif in the Old
Testament. I believe I can rightly say that this text epitomizes the doctrine we have been surveying
through the reading of Laniak's book and the Bible. As we have been scouring through the
Scriptures, with the help of Laniak, we can easily find the shepherd metaphor used of God and of
human leaders throughout the Old and New Testament. Especially when it is used in referenced to
the coming Messiah. You have certainly combed through both texts (Laniak & the Bible) wrote this
detailed response to the "shepherd" motif across the Scriptures. ... Show more content on

The cup of God's wrath was exercised. Then and today, the Lion of heaven prepares to pounce those
shepherds who have preyed on the flock of God" (49:19–21), (Laniak 140). This reference is clear
on the shepherd motif. The verse end with "... the flock of God." God is indeed the grand shepherd.
When you delve into the prophet Ezekiel, you make use of the verse that I have shortened to refer to
the shepherd motif, "... I will take note of you as you pass under my rod, and I will bring you into
the bond of the covenant (Ezek. 20:36–37). The two phrases I have bolded and italicized are
concepts that allude to the shepherd motif. The prophet Ezekiel avidly uses the shepherd of Israel
motif because he understood God's leadership toward his

The Christ, The Son Of The Living God
Introduction
Jesus asked His disciples, "Who do you say I am?" Peter answered for them,
"You are the Christ." (Mark 8:27–29) This word, Christ, is the Greek word christos and
translates the Hebrew messiah. The term messiah or Christ was used prophetically as the
title for the person or figure that God would appoint to usher in His kingdom. The
people's understanding of messiah has a military or political implication. Matthew's
gospel adds to Peter's statement "You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God." (Matt.
16:16). There is a rich tradition in these words; going back to the kings of Israel, who
were called sons of God and suggests a special relationship to God, but Jesus was much
more than that. He is God's chosen One and indeed appointed to bring God's kingdom.
He is the divine Son. The long–awaited One of the Old Testament prophesies. The next
verse in Mark gives another important title to Jesus. He teaches that the "Son of Man"
must suffer, die, and rise again. Who is the Son of Man? This title comes from Daniel
7:13–14. Daniel's vision depicts the "Ancient of Days" (God) taking a seat on His throne
then one "like a son of man" approaches God and is given authority, glory, and power.
All of the nations will worship Him. The Jews of Jesus's time see this figure from Daniel
as a prophetic vision of their Messiah. Jesus claimed to be this "Son of Man". Despite
this truth, many had a vision of the Messiah as a military power that

However, if we are to approach the text figuratively we find that there are two references to opening

seem to refer to a general opening of heaven where God himself is revealed and reveals his actions
of instruction, judgement and redemption. Within Luke 13:24, 25; John 10:7, 9 Jesus attests that he

Christians of the first century in Asia Minor had knowledge in the OT, and would most likely have
had both Greek and Hebrew copies of the scriptures, due to the mixture of Jewish and Gentile
groups within the church.
Christians in the first century struggled primarily with three things. Firstly the influences of the
"emperor cultus, "secondly the the overwhelming and pervading cultures of the Greco–Roman
world, and finally the disunity between some Jews and Christians.
Looking back at Isaiah 6 :1–5 and the vision of the throne room of God, the Christians of the first
century world would have found it easy to negate or refute the false tenets of the "emperor cult," due
to the fact that the God of majesty that John describes "dwarfs" that of the emperor. John reveals to
the first century community that God is awesome, he is righteous, and most of all he is in control.
Due to the concept of overcoming throughout Revelation Ch. 2–5, Christ has overcome, and
therefore the Christian found in Christ can have assurance that his robe and crown is secured in

Zechariah 8 Research Paper
By the start of Zechariah 8, the Lord had rebuked and confronted the Jewish people of their sin.
Since the people did not have a proper relationship with the Lord, cities like Jerusalem and Judah
were judged. These cities were destroyed, dispersing the people in different directions. Nevertheless,
God will never leave or forsake his people, for this he has promised them. As Zechariah 8 begins,
the Lord is laying out the blueprint for the future relationship with his people and the city of
Jerusalem. The scattered Israelites will have to gather together from all parts in Jerusalem for this
plan to work. The Lord says in verse seven,"...Behold, I will save my people from the east country

Prophesied Birth
A long time ago, during the reign of king Herod, there was a priest named Zechariah. His wife
named Elizabeth. Both of them were righteous in God's eyes, obeying all the lord's commands. They
had no children because Elizabeth couldn't conceive, they were both very old.
Once when Zachariah was on duty he was chosen by lot to go into the temple and burn incense.
When the time came all the worshipers were praying outside.
Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him. When Zechariah saw him he was startled, The angel

Johns clothes were made of camel's hair and a leather belt. It sounds kind of gross that he ate locusts
but that's just what he had to eat. Wild honey from bees nests sounds pretty sweet and sugary. This is
all the bible tells us about what John looked like. He certainly looked much different than us today.
John The Baptists Work
In Luke 1: 16,17 the angel of the Lord says that John will bring the Israelites back to their God, he
will go before God in the spirit of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the
disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous. This will make ready a people prepared for the Lord."
So this shows what John work was. It was to get the people ready for the Lord. He did this by many
ways like baptism. He even baptized Jesus. This is the work that John was called to do.
Old Testament Prophecy

show the glory of the Lord, and all the people will see it. So does this mean that John is going to

Assurance Of Salvation : A Christian, The Daily Goal
APPLICATION PAPER
MICAELA FARLEY
Introduction
As a Christian, the daily goal is to grow and become more Christ like. The doubts and fears of
whether one is truly saved are hindrances in one's faith. The need for assurance of salvation and
doubting can become stumbling blocks for a Christian's growth in their faith. However, these can act
as the questions which can strengthen one's faith. By discovering the theological definitions, biblical
foundations and practical applications of the assurance of salvation and doubt, the need to grow in
our faith will become clear in order to find security in salvation and conquer our doubts on different
issues.
Assurance of Salvation
Theological Definition: Assurance of salvation is having the confidence in the security that if one
has placed their faith in Christ then they will receive eternal life. Assurance is feeling secure in what
one has in Jesus such as forgiveness of all sins, being a child of God and eternal life. Romans 8:32
states, "He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how ill He not also with
Him freely give us all things?" Jesus died on the cross so we could be made right in God's eyes
which is known as justification. According to Etzel and Gutierrez, "Justification gives us assurance
that we know who holds our eternal fate secure (Etzel & Gutierrez, 2012, p. 125).
Biblical Foundation: Having assurance in salvation means to have a comprehension of what
salvation truly means. Salvation is the

Religious Symbolism in Painting The Annunciation, with...
Religious Symbolism in Painting The Annunciation, with Saint Emidius by Carlo Crivelli
The artist Carlo Crivelli painted 'The Annunciation, with Saint Emidius' in the 15th century.
Noticeably, Crivelli's portrayal of the Annunciation differs vastly to the one actually presented in
Luke 1:26–38 of the Bible. For instance, Jesus' coming was said to have been announced to Mary in
'Nazareth, a town in Galilee' (Luke 1:26). However, in Crivelli's interpretation of the event, the
Annunciation is set in the elaborate town of Ascoli, a town that has been portrayed to be flourishing
in the opulence and aesthetics that the Renaissance had brought to Crivelli's era. However, Crivelli
may have deliberately ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to this, there is also a Latin phrase: 'LIBERTAS ECCLESIASTICA', which when
translated means 'Freedom from the Church'. Moreover, Crivelli may have used such an extensive
array of colours in his painting to celebrate Ascoli's new, free status as well as to signify the joyous
coming of the Christ child.
A similarity with the actual Annunciation is the presence of the Archangel Gabriel as in the Bible, he
was sent to the Virgin Mary to announce the imminent arrival of baby Jesus. However, an
irregularity is still at hand as the Archangel is pictured to be walking alongside a Saint, which is a
rarity in religious works of art. The saint who he is walking with is Saint Emidius, the patron saint
of Ascoli. In his hands, Saint Emidius is shown to be carrying a model of his town. The model itself
is dominated by a collection of towers, which are status symbols of prosperity as well as connecting
the Earth to the Heavens above due to their height. The prosperity is reinforced throughout the
image by the presence of all the elegant architecture.
Visually, the audience is drawn into the painting by two protruding images: an apple and a gherkin.
The apple is suggestive of sin due to its obvious connections to the story of Adam and Eve and the
gherkin is representative of

The Gospel Of John The Baptist
Everyone who has studied the Gospels has heard of John the Baptist. He had prepared the way for
Jesus' ministry long before He came to earth. He was just a man who baptized other people who
believed. There is a lot more to John the Baptist than that.
1. It is said that John the Baptist was to fulfill a prophesy mentioned from Isaiah about a messenger
being sent ahead, and a voice crying out in the wilderness (Isaiah 40:3–5.)
2. Malachi also prophesied about John in Malachi 3:1.
3. Zechariah and Elizabeth were a couple in their old age. They were just ordinary people who lived
in the course of Abia, until Gabriel (or an angel of the Lord, mentioned in this section,) had foretold
of their son's birth––John the Baptist (Luke 1:11–17.)
4. According to Scripture, an angel came to Zechariah at the right side of an altar with incense and
told him his wife, Elizabeth, was going to give birth to John, and he will be filled with the Holy
Spirit from birth! Then Zechariah questions Gabriel how Elizabeth, in her old age, could possibly
have a baby? (Luke 1:11–17.)
5. Zechariah, John the Baptist's dad, was a priest (Luke 1:5.)
6. John is also Jesus' earthly cousin (Luke 1:36.)
7. Before John the Baptist's ministry, he lived in the desert and ate honey and locusts (Mark 1:6.)
8. John the Baptist wore camel's hair and a leather belt around his waist (Matthew 1:4.) This wasn't
uncommon in Old Testament prophets, for Elijah also wore camel's hair and a leather belt (2

Zachariah And Elizabeth's Role In The Bible
Elizabeth was the spouse of Zachariah, the mother of John the Baptist and a relative of Mary the
mother of Jesus. Elizabeth's name signifies 'God is my pledge' or 'my God is my fortune'. The
inability to bear a child is a typical topic in the Bible. In old times, infertility was viewed as a
disfavor. In any case, on numerous occasions, we see these ladies having extraordinary confidence
in God, and God rewards them with a youngster. Elizabeth was such a lady. Both she and her
significant other Zechariah were old, she past child bearing years, yet she imagined through the
beauty of God. The holy messenger Gabriel told Zechariah the news in the sanctuary, then made him

Book Of Zechariah
The first part of the book of Zechariah is about different visions he had in which all the visions are
prophesied by an angel and not by God. In the first visions he sees an angel and a man riding a horse
in which God says that he is going to choose the city of Jerusalem again. In the second vision he
sees four horns and four workmen. In the third he sees a man measuring Jerusalem because God is
going to come and there will be glorious again. In the four visions he sees Joshua and Satan because
God will come and forgive the sins of Jerusalem. In the fifth vision he sees and the lampstand and
olive trees. In a seventh vision he sees a woman in a basket Finally, in the last vision he saw the
horses that walked the earth.

I think this is an important lesson because when we do not hear what others are trying to tell us
sometime we make different kinds of mistakes and the person, we did not hear is disappointed in us
because he or she tried to help us. Also, this relates to me because when I was playing a tennis
match and my coach was trying to tell how to play better so that I could improve my game and win,
but I did not listen because I thought would not need his advice so I kept playing in the same way I
was playing before his advice and I lost the game, that day my coach was really disappointed on me
and I felt very bad because I should have listened to him.
The traditional author of the book is Zechariah, but scholars do not know who is the academic
author of the book. Although the academics say that there are two authors who wrote Zechariah so
they divide the book in first Zechariah and second Zechariah, because the two different parts of
Zechariah show two different points of view in different topics. Also another theory says that second

The Book Of Haggah By Zechariah
The author of the book is Zechariah, he whom the lord remembers. The book was written to the
Jews in Jerusalem that had returned from their captivity in Babylon. The book was written in and
around 520 B.C. The major theme of the book, is rebuilding the Temple, only the first step. When
we read Zechariah, it is almost like reading Haggai all over again. The messages are very similar
and they are written around the same time. There was said to be a year between the two and their
message of encouragement. The biggest difference of the two writings is that in Zechariah's account,
words like Messiah and Kingdom appear. There is more prophecy in Zechariah's account than there
was in Haggai. There is nothing negative about this; I liken it unto ... Show more content on

Like Israel, we too loose focus a lot, in our day to–day lives. There are so many distractions; I truly
believe that we have more than they had in their day. Regardless, the focus should be on the mission
I like to call it, our fathers business. Zechariah, experience many visions as we read this great book
it puts us in the mind set of an Revelation or Daniel. It's hard not to get caught up in the apocalyptic
style of writing. The writer sucks you in to this almost dream world before you have to pull back
and reexamine were you were and the real message that he's conveying. To keep it simple his
message was about encouraging the people to finish what they had started. Rebuilding the temple,
throwing in the golden nuggets about the Messiah would come. After the temple was completed,
Zechariah gave several prophecies about Israel's future. It vividly describes the first and second
coming of our lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This book contains more about the person, work, and
glory of Christ than any other minor prophets combined. Israel's king would come, but his people
would reject him. They would later repent and be restored to God. The king is going to come again
for the Judgment, we pray that when he comes again that we have been faithful and he will find us
pure in his sight. The building of the temple is important here. Our bodies are our temple and we
must continue to work on them until Christ comes again to claim us, the Church the people of

The Biblical and Historical Origins of the Problems in the Middle East
The present day situation in Israel may be the most difficult political situation in world history. It
dates back to thousands of years before Christ, and deals with a large number of issues including
political, religious, and cultural issues. In order to understand the current day issues, we must first
understand the Biblical and historical issues. In this paper, I will first explore what the later books of
the old testament, specifically the books of Ezra, Nehemiah, Zechariah, and Malachi, and than talk
about the modern day issues. This was an interesting part of the Bible to research, because it is the
part that most people know very little ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first book that I will discuss is the book of Ezra. Ezra lived during the time several hundred
years after the return of the Jews from the Babylonian exile, which would be around 400 BC. Ezra
was a priest, who was an expert in the law of the Torah. The first six chapters of the Book of Ezra
describe the return of the Jews from the exile in Babylon, which actually happened before Ezra was
actually living. The last 6 chapters deal with the restoration of Jewish life in Israel after the exile in
Babylon.
In this time period, there were two restorations going on. The first dealt with the rebuilding of the
city of Jerusalem, even though the Temple had already been built after the return from exile. The
second dealt with the rebuilding of Jewish religious life in the postexilic period. Because he was a
priest and an expert in the law, Ezra was primarily responsible for the religious rebuilding. A major
problem of the time was that Jewish men were taking foreign wives, and at this time, Ezra
prohibited mixed marriages. The men who had married foreign women had to abandon them. There
was also a covenant renewal at this time.
The second book that I will discuss is the book of Nehemiah. It isn't known who came first of Ezra
and Nehemiah, but while Ezra was the religious leader, Nehemiah was the political leader.
Nehemiah began his work in Babylon around 445 BC,

12 Minor Prophets Of The Old Testament
One of the 12 minor prophets of the Old Testament, Haggai, played an essential role in the
rebuilding of the temple of the Lord. Although we are not given the specific details about when it is
written or who wrote the book of Haggai, it is often assumed that Haggai himself wrote it. Scholars
also presume that it was written around 520 B.C. due to the specifics of the time period given in the
book itself. It is a rather short book, only consisting of two chapters, and exact dates are given as to
when the Lord spoke to Haggai regarding the rebuilding of the temple. For example, Haggai opens
up by saying that the Lord first spoke to Haggai on the first day of the sixth month of the rule of
Darius. The messages from the Lord to Haggai were directed to the governor, Zerubbabel, the high
priest, Joshua,a and sometimes to all the people of Judah. These messages usually focus on the
apathy of the people to rebuild the temple of the Lord.
The people of God during The Book of Haggai are avoiding rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem. The
first temple was built by Solomon, the son of David. David initially wanted to build the temple, but
God gave the task to Solomon. The Babylonians led by Nebuchadnezzar marched into Jerusalem
and destroyed this first temple of God. The temple was to be rebuilt, but it was being avoided
largely during the time of Haggai. Consequently, God spoke to Haggai and had him relay messages
to his people. God started by asking the people how they live in their

The Old Testament : Israel 's Religious And Political Posture
At the conclusion of the Old Testament, Israel's religious and political posture had not changed
much towards regaining their foothold as a sovereign nation. Although the Israelites made
advancements in restoring the temple and reestablishing the Mosaic Law, they still remain under the
decree of a powerful nation, the Persian Empire. No one from the Davidic royal line was able to
defeat the Persians or regain the throne for the Jewish people. For more than 400 years, there were
times of prosperity and hopes of victory, while at other times destruction and ascendency dominated
the land. The once Persian dominated land was overthrown by the Grecians, and subsequently the
Roman Empire ruled. During this period of time, YHWH's voice became ... Show more content on

His indecision to accept a place in Christ's inner circle showed a lack of further commitment. The
overall methodology of this project will be to develop a foundational approach to understanding the
life and ministry of John the Baptist. Further, this paper will demonstrate his pivotal and irrefutable
role in demanding repentance from sin, while proclaiming the anticipated emergence of the true
Messiah. These preparatory focuses will provide meaningful insight into John the Baptist's overall
mission and servitude to God. However, this study will assiduously analyze John's skepticism or
hesitation in becoming Christ's disciple, while emphasizing his possible ideological modification
during his imprisonment. Even though this paper will use the Bible as its primary source, other
peer–reviewed scholarly sources will be used to extract and emphasize meaningful facts and
opinions. Conceivably through this study, it will provide the reader with a clear understanding of

THE EARLY LIFE OF JOHN THE BAPTIST
The Gospel According to Luke provides clear details of the early life of John the Baptist, to include
the foretelling of his birth. The uniqueness of his birth coincides with a similar account expressed by

Purpose In The Gospel Of Luke
Purpose
While there are many more specific purposes in the Gospel of Luke, the overall purpose is "a
defense of the Christian faith, useful for both evangelism and discipleship." Luke is an eloquent
Gospel that provided valuable information about the faith for the believers in the church that are still
as applicable today in the twenty–first century. A primary purpose in the Gospel of Luke is to tell of
the miraculous conception, birth, and childhood of Jesus Christ. The Gospel of Luke is the only
Gospel (besides Matthew) that focuses on the birth and virginal conception of Christ. The Gospels
of Mark and John give no information regarding the conception and birth of Christ; the first mention
of Christ in these Gospels is of Christ as a grown man. While Matthew gives account of the visit of
the Magi and flight into Egypt that occurred in the earliest years of the life of Christ (Matthew 2:1–

The Gospel of Luke begins with an introduction, then tells of the foretelling of the birth of John the
Baptist to the priest Zechariah and his wife, Elizabeth (Luke 1:5–25). Zechariah and Elizabeth were

visited Zechariah to announce that Elizabeth would conceive and bear a son named John, even in
her advanced age. Zechariah was in disbelief at Gabriel's words, so Gabriel stated that Zechariah
would be unable to speak until the birth of John due to his disbelief. Elizabeth gave birth to a son,
John the Baptist, who would later preach and would baptize Jesus Christ. This miraculous
conception and birth is similar to the miraculous conception and birth of Isaac to Abraham and

Matthew's Gospel
The Gospel of Matthew presents the promised Messiah, the immaculate Savior and King of the
Jews. Matthew's Gospel has a clear purpose and is unique for its linkage of the New and Old
Testament through Jesus Christ. Matthew shows ages of prophecy fulfilled through a single life span
of one man's life. The fulfillment of the law is found in Christ and he recapitulates Israel in a
condensed manner perfectly. The Gospel, also goes on to show the Israelites rejection of Christ as
their Savior, their King and depicts a new gathering of people to Christ.

king" should be lead many of them astray. Jesus, however, turned these notions upside down. He

Unlike the other Gospels, Matthew stresses the royal and Jewish heritage of Jesus' identity.
Throughout his Gospel, Jesus is identified as the "son of David" or the "son of Abraham." By doing
this Matthew is establishing a link between the Old and New Testament and portraying Jesus as the
fulfillment to all the Old Testament prophecies. Jesus displays his royal authority repetitively
throughout Matthew's Gospel. Matthew 21:1–11 narrates the triumphal entry of Jesus into
Jerusalem; here Jesus expresses a prerogative of royalty. Jesus sends two disciples into the next
town to retrieve a donkey and a colt; if they were asked by anyone who it was for, the disciples were
to reply "the Lord has need of them" (v.2–3). The borrowing of the animals testifies to Jesus' status
and his foreknowledge. Matthew is not concentrating on the animals as a possession as he is on

Zechariah Essay
Zechariah
Zechariah is one of the Minor Prophets of the Old Testament. His book is located between the books
of Haggai and Malachi. Zechariah is thought to have preached from about 520–518 B.C. The book
of Zechariah deals with the restoration of Jerusalem, the Temple, and God's people. Chapter 11
verses 4–17, which is a story of two shepherds, is one of the most difficult passages in the Old
Testament to understand. From the New Living Translation, the passage reads as follows: 4 This is
what the LORD my God says: "Go and care for a flock that is intended for slaughter. 5 The
buyers will slaughter their sheep without remorse. The sellers will say, 'Praise the LORD, I am now
rich!' Even the shepherds have no compassion for them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

certain for this worthless shepherd who abandons the flock! The sword will cut his arm and pierce
his right eye! His arm will become useless, and his right eye completely blind!" The
commentary Obadiah through Malachi begins by commenting on the ambiguous nature of the
passage. This vague language makes it very difficult to interpret; thus the details remain elusive. The
author feels that this passage goes in accordance with the earlier situation described in Zechariah
10:3. In both passages it is made clear that the leaders (shepherds) of Israel have made the Lord
angry. Zechariah is describing the social disorder and the peoples' dishonesty toward each other that
has overwhelmed the community before it will be restored by God. This commentary is certain that
the doomed flock is in fact Israel, but is unsure whom the sheep merchants represent. Their guess is
that they may be the workers in the temple who have hired Zechariah. The shepherd is understood as
symbolizing a ruling, most likely a prophetic one. Zechariah is telling his audience that Israel is in
total disarray and the leaders aren't doing anything to help, in fact some are making the situation
worse. God is permitting the corruption by sitting on His hands. While doing so, he stresses the need
for repentance so the corrupt community may be restored. The prophet

The men brought Daniel before the king and Daniel was thrown into a den of lions, but the lions did

King Darius wrote all the nations that dwelt on earth to decree that they should fear the God of

Edict Of Return In Judaism
The Return
This time period stretches from the defeat of the Babylonian empire by Cyrus of Persia in 539 BCE
all the way though the writing of Ezra–Nehemiah. During this time, they were evolving from what
Birch would call Yawahist into Judaism "Yahwism emerged that allowed for worship in diverse
geographical and social setting but insisted on a worship of Yahweh alone. Such a development is
symbolized by the term Judaism" (Birch 434). During this time, they tried to answer more question
of who they were on their return back to Israel and the city of Jerusalem. The return came in back in
two phases that was provoked by the Edict of Return in 538 BCE. The Edict essentially states that

The physical restoration of Jerusalem and the social restoration of the community would need to
continue, and question about the composition of that community would have to be resolved. These
issues became pressing in the mid fifth century BCE..." (Cogan 424). Again we get the theological
and existential question of "who are we" in the return to Israel just like what was happening for
them during their exile. Some tension came from the Persia giving authority to Zerubbabel
(descendant of Jehoiachin) as civil governor and Joshua (descendant of Zakok) as high priest which
we see in Haggai 1:1; 2:2. Supported by Chronicles and in Ezra 3–6 describes the rebuilding of the
Temple under these 2 leaders. Zerubbabel responsible to king for tribute and tax payments from

implication that are at play during this time is that "God of Israel" is also the God of history and the
whole world once again we see tangible integrations with the world. The Era of return we see the the
establishment of boundary makers of their faith to prove their Jewishness. Several of these boundary
makers include the Sabbath, Circumcision, Physical walls around Jerusalem and the establishment
of the Torah as Canonical and Marriage, and leads to Apocalyptic messages for

Zechariah Is The Doctrine Of End Times
One of the major themes of the book of Zechariah is Old Testament Eschatology. Eschatology is the
doctrine of end times, or the study of last things. Zechariah's message is divided into three main
sections. The first section, chapters 1–8, is considered apocalyptic and is filled with eight visions
succeeding one another in one night. The second section, chapters 7–8, delivered two years later, are
an answer to the question whether the days of fasting and mourning for the destruction of the city
should be kept any longer, and an assurance to the people of God 's presence and blessing. The third
and final section, chapters 9–14, consists of two oracles. The first oracle (9–11) addresses God 's
dealings with His people. The second oracle (12–14) points out the final conflict and triumph of God
's kingdom. In the first section, Zechariah details a series of eight supernatural visions the Lord
reveals to Him. These visions are apocalyptic in nature and are communicated to encourage the
people to finish rebuilding the Temple, which at that point was five months into reconstruction.
These visions are given to relay hope for the people's future and the future of the city of the Temple,
Jerusalem. The first vision (1:7–17) consists of four angelic riders on four horses of various colors.
The angelic rider on the red horse dismounts his horse in the middle of a grove of myrtle trees.

Haggai And Zechariah Research Paper
"Haggai and Zechariah are complementary prophets of the postexilic period" (HW 678). Haggai
urged the people of Jerusalem to rebuild the temple of God while Zechariah called for spiritual
renewal among God's people. During the time of Haggai a decree was issued allowing conquered
peoples who were deported by the Babylonians to return to their homelands. During this time the
first group of emigrants returned to Jerusalem. Scripture states in Haggai 1:7–8, "Thus says the Lord
of hosts: 'Consider your ways! Go up to the mountains and bring wood and build the temple, that I
may take pleasure in it and be glorified', says the Lord" (New King James Version). Haggai's

His task "was to prepare the people for proper worship and temple service once the building project
was completed" (HW 688). God instructed Zechariah in the words to motivate the people. Scripture
states in Zechariah 4:6, "This is the word of the Lord:....'Not by might nor by power, but by My
Spirit,' says the Lord of hosts". The Lord is showing the people that it is only through Him that the
temple will be finished and ready for worship. At this time the people were guilty of the same
covenant violations as the generation that was sent into exile. The Lord sent Zechariah to offer the
people a solution to their problems of sin and rebellion by genuinely repenting and returning to God.
God knew that "only spiritual renewal could foster true worship and meaningful service in the
temple" once it was finished (HW 691). Zechariah's encouragement took many forms including a
series of visions and repeated reference to the words of former prophets. Zechariah's visions
reminded the people that God cared for them and all that they were struggling with. Zechariah's
messages from the Lord were full of hope confirming that the Lord was continuing His covenant
with them and was not going to forsake them. The prophet Zechariah was the cheerleader for the
completion of the temple that Haggai had the people start to rebuild. Haggai got the physical
building of the temple started while Zechariah was the encourager for the people to finish the temple

The Four Books Of Gospel Are Found In The New Testament
The four books of Gospel are found in the New Testament with names of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and
John. These four Gospels were included in the New Testament disregarding which is most accurate,
because all four Gospels portray different perspectives of Jesus. The four books of Gospel are
divided into Synoptics (Matthew, Mark, Luke), and John. Matthew portrays Jesus as Messiah, Mark
portrays Him as Suffering Servant, and Luke portrays Jesus as Universal Savior. The Gospel of John
portrays Jesus as Son of God. John is not part of the Synoptics Gospel because Synoptics focus on
God's kingdom while John focuses on who Jesus is. Each book supports their views of Jesus with

Sistine Chapel Essay By Michelangelo
The Sistine Chapel is one of the most beautiful artworks known to man, but who knew that so many
secrets could be hidden in the artwork that covers the ceilings and walls of the sacred church. The
Sistine Chapel was falling apart and after getting it fixed church needed someone to decorate the
inside with the most intelligent strokes of a paint brush. After searching Pope Julius ll chose the
famous artist Michelangelo to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Michelangelo may or may not

was able to put large and even some insulting symbols on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

1. It is written that John the Baptist was to fulfill a prophesy mentioned from Isaiah about a
messenger being sent ahead, and a voice crying out in the wilderness (Isaiah 40:3–5.)
2. Malachi also prophesied about John in Malachi 3:1.

10. In Matthew 3, John the Baptist preached in the wilderness of Judea (Matthew 3:1.) It is stated
that John the Baptist lived as a timid man and was straight to the point. My assumption is he did not
enjoy preaching in a town. He probably would feel very uncomfortable, so he chose to teach in the
wilderness.
11. John the Baptist is the one who baptized Jesus (Matthew 3:13–17.)
12. John didn't intend to baptize Jesus. Immediately, he recognized that Jesus was sinless. John the
Baptist knew Jesus was God's prophesied Son, who he had been teaching about. In fact, John the
Baptist went as far as to say, "I should be the one getting baptized by you!" (Matthew 3:14.) What
an experience it must have been to baptize Jesus!
13. John baptized Jesus in the Jordan River (Mark 1:9.)
14. According to John 3:27–30, the people, who John the Baptist taught, thought he was the
Messiah.
15. John was humble and said I'm not worthy of even carrying His sandals (Matthew 3:11.)
16. Not only did the people think John the Baptist was Christ, but they also had a few other ideas
about who he was. Also, they thought he was Elijah or another prophet. All they knew is he was
filled with miraculous power. People had no idea that the power wasn't coming from him, but from
God within him (John 1:21.)
17. According to Mark 8:27–28, people thought Jesus was John the Baptist! Seemingly,

Haggai's And Zechariah
The book of Haggai's and Zechariah's message was to the reconstruction of the temple of God that
was destroyed by the Babylonians. Haggai was solely commissioned to get the Temple rebuilt where
Zechariah was of repentance through the preceding eight visions. Overall, the visions speak of God's
plans for Israel and specifically the temple and Jerusalem. One other main theme is the coming of
the future Messiah. Zechariah also had a charge with Haggai to encourage the post–exilic to
continue to rebuild the temple. The temple foundation began almost immediately after the people
returned from Babylon. The foundation was done but after that it took sixteen years before the work
would resume. This was due to hostility's from Samaritan settlers. It ... Show more content on

Until Haggai came at them with "Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses while
this house lies desolate? 5 Now therefore, thus says the LORD of hosts, "Consider your ways! 6 You
have sown much, but harvest little; you eat, but there is not enough to be satisfied; you drink, but
there is not enough to become drunk; you put on clothing, but no one is warm enough; and he who
earns, earns wages to put into a purse with holes.7 Thus says the LORD of hosts, "Consider your
ways! 8 Go up to the mountains, bring wood and rebuild the temple, that I may be pleased with it
and be glorified," says the LORD. 9 "You look for much, but behold, it comes to little; when you
bring it home, I blow it away. Why?" declares the LORD of hosts, "Because of My house which lies
desolate, while each of you runs to his own house."(Haggai 1:4–9 NASB) This stinging rebuke to a
people that was seeking to create their own prosperity while neglecting spiritual responsibilities was
just the kick in the pant that they need to obey the voice of the Lord and began rebuilding. Haggai
2:3–9 show us that there were some in Jerusalem that were quite disappointed. These people were
comparing the second temple as a poor substitute, recalling the splendors of the first temple. To
them, nothing would stand up to the grandeur of Solomon's

The Birth Narrative Of Jesus Christ
As children many of us were told or taught the birth narrative of Jesus Christ. The story was much
simpler, Mary the wife of Joseph was told by Gabriel the angel she was in favor of God because she
had been faithful to him. Though Mary was a virgin God preformed a miracle and Mary bore a
child. He was born in manger and surrounded by shepherds and wise men who brought gifts to their
new savior. For most of us that is the story of Jesus's birth and in the New Testament Matthew and
Luke tell a similar story, but reading the text the audience can find some subtle and significant
differences. In this paper I will discuss the implications of reading both Matthew and Luke.
Conferring my research to what is presented within the New Testament I will argue that Matthew
and Luke told the story that they had heard from oral tradition and this can prove that the basic facts
of both gospels are mainly true but are changed through generations. To first understand my thesis,
we must know the story of Matthew and Luke. To begin I will focus on the differences of Matthew
and follow with Luke. 1:1–1:17 establishes the genealogy of Jesus1. Matthew follows his ancestry
to Abraham, the father of Isaac2. He continues with the son Jacob the father of Judah and so on3.
Matthew's story also contains a set of main characters: Joseph, Mary, Wise men, and Herod the
Great4, and a very well–known location, Bethlehem. As our childhood story was told Mary, the
virgin, was blessed with a miracle. Joseph

Christ Revealed Throughout The Bible

 • 1. Christ Revealed Throughout The Bible Christ Revealed Throughout the Bible The Christ prophesied in the Old Testament is the Jesus in the New Testament! I am going to trace Christ from Genesis to Revelations to show He is the same person in both the old and the new covenant. It is important to put the Old and New Testament together to get a better understand of who Jesus is, and what He did. I will be using my many years of studying the Bible along with commentaries and the Bible itself to prove my point. I am going to show Christ can be seen throughout the Bible, from Genesis to Revelations. Sometimes people do not understand how a God of love could have such wrath and demand punishment for sin. We must understand that God is holy and cannot tolerate sin. He cannot just overlook wickedness. (Laney). There must be punishment and payment for it. This is why God had to give punishment for sin, but in His love He prepared a way to redeem the sinners. His plan to save humankind can be found in the promise of Christ, God's Son, who is to pay the penalty for all our sins. Genesis is the Greek word for beginning (MacDonald.) Genesis is a great place to start searching for Christ. Soon into the book of Genesis God is giving the punishment to Adam and Eve for their disobedience. God then gives the serpent his punishment. God told the Serpent, "And I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel" (Genesis 3:15). This verse is ... • 3. Comparing The Prophets Of Haggai, Zechariah And Malachi Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi were the three prophets from the period following the Babylonian captivity. It was in 538 B. C. when Cyrus king of Persia issued a decree allowing the Jews to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple (NIV Study Bible, 2008: 1418). That period was called "Restoration Period" or post–exilic period. Haggai was a post–captivity prophet when Zerubbabel led the first group back from Babylon. Together with Zechariah, they were concerned with the rebuilding of the temple which had been destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar and the Babylonians (Hag. 1–2; Zech. 4:8 NKJV). By that time people were living comfortably in their paneled houses, his first message was to warn the people that if they continued to neglect the Lord's house, they could expect nothing but drought. They obeyed the word of the Lord and began rebuilding the temple (Haggai 1:12–15 NKJV) (http://home.hiwaay.net/~wgann/walk/malachi.htm). Zechariah started his prophecy in 520 B.C., the same year that Haggai ministered but for only three years. It was in the eighth month of the second year of the Persian king Darius (Zech. 1:1 NKJV). Watts (Introduction to the Book of Malachi, Rev Ex 84 (1987):373–74), Malachi is the last prophets of the 12 Minor Prophets. It has all the prophetic collection from the prophet Moses with the law and the prophet Elijah with the promise and the very end of the Christian canon (https://bible.org/book/export/html/6305). • 5. The Early Life Of Saint Elizabeth Of The Visitation "So Abraham received what God promised because he waited patiently for it." That's what Hebrews 6:15 says. Just like Abraham, Saint Elizabeth was patient and gained what she had longed for through the grace of God. Imagine that you are Saint Elizabeth. You are disappointed that you were never blessed with a child, but you never become bitter from it. You are always humble and put God first. You and Zechariah pray every day for a child. Your prayers are never answered, but you still remain faithful to God. Saint Elizabeth of the Visitation, who is still venerated in the Church today, was the cousin of Mary, the mother of John the Baptist, and the first to acknowledge the importance Mary's pregnancy. Little is known about Saint Elizabeth's early life. She was born in the 1st century BC ("Saint Elizabeth of the Visitation" 5). She was a descendant of Aaron, Moses' brother ("Elizabeth (Biblical person)" 4). Her mother was named Sobe, and Mary's mother was Anne, which made Elizabeth and Mary cousins ("Elizabeth (Biblical person)" 3). Elizabeth is also known as Elisabeth or Elisheva (which was also Aaron's wife's name) ("Elizabeth (Biblical person)" 1). In Hebrew (‫ע‬‫ַב‬ ‫יֶׁש‬‫)ֱאִל‬, Elizabeth's name means, "An oath to my God" ("Elizabeth (Biblical person") 1). She lived in the hill country near Judea with her husband Zechariah ("Elizabeth (Biblical person)" 6). Elizabeth became a saint because of her actions and through the help of many different people. • 7. Haggai, Zechariah, And Malachi While there is some speculation in regards to the authorship of Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi, the general scholarly consensus is that all three share titular authors. Haggai and Zechariah were contemporaries; however, while Haggai's messages were only in a short period in 520 b.c., Zechariah's ministry stretched from 520 b.c., until after 480 b.c. Malachi was likely a contemporary of Nehemiah, and it is likely that his book was written in 433 b.c., right after Nehemiah returned from Persia. (NIV Study Bible) Haggai is divided into four different messages: He begins with a call to rebuild the temple, explaining how the people's refusal to rebuild the Lord's house has brought curses upon them. He then encourages the people in his second message, instructing the people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His third message largely addresses the principles of being unclean. Haggai's final message speaks to Zerubbabel of the eventual defeat of the Gentile kingdoms that have opposed Israel for so long. It is in this message that he reveals that Zerubbabel is chosen of the Lord. Zechariah is also divided into four sections. It begins with a call to repentance, then later describes eight separate visions Zechariah has in the same night. The second section ends with an oracle about Joshua. The third message of Zechariah rebukes the people for how they have turned away from God. It explains how the Israelites have ignored God in their rituals and placed more importance in the rituals themselves than God. The final area of Zechariah is about two oracles. One concerns the coming and subsequent rejection of Christ, then the second coming and reception of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

 • 9. The Shepherd Motif In The Bible Roman, in response to your thread you quote Laniak as saying "Isaiah was clear about satire of biblical leadership: to rule is to serve and to suffer, and to lead is to be both shepherd and sacrificial lamb (Laniak, 129). This reference indeed is a clear demonstration of the shepherd motif in the Old Testament. I believe I can rightly say that this text epitomizes the doctrine we have been surveying through the reading of Laniak's book and the Bible. As we have been scouring through the Scriptures, with the help of Laniak, we can easily find the shepherd metaphor used of God and of human leaders throughout the Old and New Testament. Especially when it is used in referenced to the coming Messiah. You have certainly combed through both texts (Laniak & the Bible) wrote this detailed response to the "shepherd" motif across the Scriptures. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This reference is clear on the shepherd motif. The verse end with "... the flock of God." God is indeed the grand shepherd. When you delve into the prophet Ezekiel, you make use of the verse that I have shortened to refer to the shepherd motif, "... I will take note of you as you pass under my rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant (Ezek. 20:36–37). • 11. The Christ, The Son Of The Living God Introduction Jesus asked His disciples, "Who do you say I am?" Peter answered for them, "You are the Christ." (Mark 8:27–29) This word, Christ, is the Greek word christos and translates the Hebrew messiah. The term messiah or Christ was used prophetically as the title for the person or figure that God would appoint to usher in His kingdom. The people's understanding of messiah has a military or political implication. Matthew's gospel adds to Peter's statement "You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God." (Matt. 16:16). There is a rich tradition in these words; going back to the kings of Israel, who were called sons of God and suggests a special relationship to God, but Jesus was much more than that. He is God's chosen One and indeed appointed to bring God's kingdom. He is the divine Son. The long–awaited One of the Old Testament prophesies. The next verse in Mark gives another important title to Jesus. He teaches that the "Son of Man" must suffer, die, and rise again. Who is the Son of Man? This title comes from Daniel 7:13–14. Daniel's vision depicts the "Ancient of Days" (God) taking a seat on His throne then one "like a son of man" approaches God and is given authority, glory, and power. All of the nations will worship Him. The Jews of Jesus's time see this figure from Daniel as a prophetic vision of their Messiah. Jesus claimed to be this "Son of Man". Despite this truth, many had a vision of the Messiah as a military power that

Christians of the first century in Asia Minor had knowledge in the OT, and would most likely have had both Greek and Hebrew copies of the scriptures, due to the mixture of Jewish and Gentile groups within the church. Firstly the influences of the "emperor cultus, "secondly the the overwhelming and pervading cultures of the Greco–Roman world, and finally the disunity between some Jews and Christians. Looking back at Isaiah 6 :1–5 and the vision of the throne room of God, the Christians of the first century world would have found it easy to negate or refute the false tenets of the "emperor cult," due to the fact that the God of majesty that John describes "dwarfs" that of the emperor. • 26. Assurance Of Salvation : A Christian, The Daily Goal APPLICATION PAPER MICAELA FARLEY Introduction As a Christian, the daily goal is to grow and become more Christ like. The doubts and fears of whether one is truly saved are hindrances in one's faith. The need for assurance of salvation and doubting can become stumbling blocks for a Christian's growth in their faith. However, these can act as the questions which can strengthen one's faith. By discovering the theological definitions, biblical foundations and practical applications of the assurance of salvation and doubt, the need to grow in our faith will become clear in order to find security in salvation and conquer our doubts on different issues. Assurance of Salvation Theological Definition: Assurance of salvation is having the confidence in the security that if one has placed their faith in Christ then they will receive eternal life. Assurance is feeling secure in what one has in Jesus such as forgiveness of all sins, being a child of God and eternal life. Romans 8:32 states, "He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how ill He not also with Him freely give us all things?" Jesus died on the cross so we could be made right in God's eyes which is known as justification. According to Etzel and Gutierrez, "Justification gives us assurance that we know who holds our eternal fate secure (Etzel & Gutierrez, 2012, p. 125). Religious Symbolism in Painting The Annunciation, with Saint Emidius by Carlo Crivelli The artist Carlo Crivelli painted 'The Annunciation, with Saint Emidius' in the 15th century. Noticeably, Crivelli's portrayal of the Annunciation differs vastly to the one actually presented in Luke 1:26–38 of the Bible. For instance, Jesus' coming was said to have been announced to Mary in 'Nazareth, a town in Galilee' (Luke 1:26). However, in Crivelli's interpretation of the event, the Annunciation is set in the elaborate town of Ascoli, a town that has been portrayed to be flourishing in the opulence and aesthetics that the Renaissance had brought to Crivelli's era. However, Crivelli may have deliberately ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition to this, there is also a Latin phrase: 'LIBERTAS ECCLESIASTICA', which when translated means 'Freedom from the Church'. Moreover, Crivelli may have used such an extensive array of colours in his painting to celebrate Ascoli's new, free status as well as to signify the joyous coming of the Christ child. A similarity with the actual Annunciation is the presence of the Archangel Gabriel as in the Bible, he was sent to the Virgin Mary to announce the imminent arrival of baby Jesus. However, an irregularity is still at hand as the Archangel is pictured to be walking alongside a Saint, which is a rarity in religious works of art. The saint who he is walking with is Saint Emidius, the patron saint of Ascoli. In his hands, Saint Emidius is shown to be carrying a model of his town. The model itself is dominated by a collection of towers, which are status symbols of prosperity as well as connecting the Earth to the Heavens above due to their height. The prosperity is reinforced throughout the image by the presence of all the elegant architecture. Visually, the audience is drawn into the painting by two protruding images: an apple and a gherkin. The apple is suggestive of sin due to its obvious connections to the story of Adam and Eve and the gherkin is representative of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He was just a man who baptized other people who believed. There is a lot more to John the Baptist than that. 1. It is said that John the Baptist was to fulfill a prophesy mentioned from Isaiah about a messenger being sent ahead, and a voice crying out in the wilderness (Isaiah 40:3–5.) 2. Malachi also prophesied about John in Malachi 3:1. 3. Zechariah and Elizabeth were a couple in their old age. They were just ordinary people who lived in the course of Abia, until Gabriel (or an angel of the Lord, mentioned in this section,) had foretold of their son's birth––John the Baptist (Luke 1:11–17.) 4. According to Scripture, an angel came to Zechariah at the right side of an altar with incense and told him his wife, Elizabeth, was going to give birth to John, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit from birth! Then Zechariah questions Gabriel how Elizabeth, in her old age, could possibly have a baby? (Luke 1:11–17.) 5. Zechariah, John the Baptist's dad, was a priest (Luke 1:5.) 6. John is also Jesus' earthly cousin (Luke 1:36.) 7. Before John the Baptist's ministry, he lived in the desert and ate honey and locusts (Mark 1:6.) 8. The first six chapters of the Book of Ezra describe the return of the Jews from the exile in Babylon, which actually happened before Ezra was actually living. The last 6 chapters deal with the restoration of Jewish life in Israel after the exile in Babylon. In this time period, there were two restorations going on. The first dealt with the rebuilding of the city of Jerusalem, even though the Temple had already been built after the return from exile. The second dealt with the rebuilding of Jewish religious life in the postexilic period. Because he was a priest and an expert in the law, Ezra was primarily responsible for the religious rebuilding. A major problem of the time was that Jewish men were taking foreign wives, and at this time, Ezra prohibited mixed marriages. The men who had married foreign women had to abandon them. There was also a covenant renewal at this time. The second book that I will discuss is the book of Nehemiah. It isn't known who came first of Ezra and Nehemiah, but while Ezra was the religious leader, Nehemiah was the political leader. Nehemiah began his work in Babylon around 445 BC, ... • 52. 12 Minor Prophets Of The Old Testament One of the 12 minor prophets of the Old Testament, Haggai, played an essential role in the rebuilding of the temple of the Lord. Although we are not given the specific details about when it is written or who wrote the book of Haggai, it is often assumed that Haggai himself wrote it. Scholars also presume that it was written around 520 B.C. due to the specifics of the time period given in the book itself. It is a rather short book, only consisting of two chapters, and exact dates are given as to when the Lord spoke to Haggai regarding the rebuilding of the temple. For example, Haggai opens up by saying that the Lord first spoke to Haggai on the first day of the sixth month of the rule of Darius. The messages from the Lord to Haggai were directed to the governor, Zerubbabel, the high priest, Joshua,a and sometimes to all the people of Judah. These messages usually focus on the apathy of the people to rebuild the temple of the Lord. The people of God during The Book of Haggai are avoiding rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem. The first temple was built by Solomon, the son of David. David initially wanted to build the temple, but God gave the task to Solomon. The Babylonians led by Nebuchadnezzar marched into Jerusalem and destroyed this first temple of God. The temple was to be rebuilt, but it was being avoided largely during the time of Haggai. Consequently, God spoke to Haggai and had him relay messages to his people. God started by asking the people how they live in their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Old Testament : Israel 's Religious And Political Posture At the conclusion of the Old Testament, Israel's religious and political posture had not changed much towards regaining their foothold as a sovereign nation. Although the Israelites made advancements in restoring the temple and reestablishing the Mosaic Law, they still remain under the decree of a powerful nation, the Persian Empire. No one from the Davidic royal line was able to defeat the Persians or regain the throne for the Jewish people. For more than 400 years, there were times of prosperity and hopes of victory, while at other times destruction and ascendency dominated the land. The once Persian dominated land was overthrown by the Grecians, and subsequently the Roman Empire ruled. During this period of time, YHWH's voice became ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Purpose In The Gospel Of Luke Purpose While there are many more specific purposes in the Gospel of Luke, the overall purpose is "a defense of the Christian faith, useful for both evangelism and discipleship." Luke is an eloquent Gospel that provided valuable information about the faith for the believers in the church that are still as applicable today in the twenty–first century. A primary purpose in the Gospel of Luke is to tell of the miraculous conception, birth, and childhood of Jesus Christ. The Gospel of Luke is the only Gospel (besides Matthew) that focuses on the birth and virginal conception of Christ. The Gospels of Mark and John give no information regarding the conception and birth of Christ; the first mention of Christ in these Gospels is of Christ as a grown man. While Matthew gives account of the visit of the Magi and flight into Egypt that occurred in the earliest years of the life of Christ (Matthew 2:1– 23), Luke is ... An angel of the Lord, Gabriel, visited Zechariah to announce that Elizabeth would conceive and bear a son named John, even in her advanced age. Zechariah was in disbelief at Gabriel's words, so Gabriel stated that Zechariah would be unable to speak until the birth of John due to his disbelief. Elizabeth gave birth to a son, John the Baptist, who would later preach and would baptize Jesus Christ. Matthew's Gospel has a clear purpose and is unique for its linkage of the New and Old Testament through Jesus Christ. Matthew shows ages of prophecy fulfilled through a single life span of one man's life. The fulfillment of the law is found in Christ and he recapitulates Israel in a condensed manner perfectly. The Gospel, also goes on to show the Israelites rejection of Christ as their Savior, their King and depicts a new gathering of people to Christ. Most Jews in the days of Jesus missed his coming. Unlike the other Gospels, Matthew stresses the royal and Jewish heritage of Jesus' identity. Throughout his Gospel, Jesus is identified as the "son of David" or the "son of Abraham." Jesus displays his royal authority repetitively throughout Matthew's Gospel. Matthew 21:1–11 narrates the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem; here Jesus expresses a prerogative of royalty. Jesus sends two disciples into the next town to retrieve a donkey and a colt; if they were asked by anyone who it was for, the disciples were to reply "the Lord has need of them" (v.2–3). • 60. Zechariah Essay Zechariah Zechariah is one of the Minor Prophets of the Old Testament. His book is located between the books of Haggai and Malachi. Zechariah is thought to have preached from about 520–518 B.C. The book of Zechariah deals with the restoration of Jerusalem, the Temple, and God's people. Chapter 11 verses 4–17, which is a story of two shepherds, is one of the most difficult passages in the Old Testament to understand. From the New Living Translation, the passage reads as follows: 4 This is what the LORD my God says: "Go and care for a flock that is intended for slaughter. 5 The buyers will slaughter their sheep without remorse. The sellers will say, 'Praise the LORD, I am now rich!' Even the shepherds have no compassion for them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The sword will cut his arm and pierce his right eye! His arm will become useless, and his right eye completely blind!" The commentary Obadiah through Malachi begins by commenting on the ambiguous nature of the passage. This vague language makes it very difficult to interpret; thus the details remain elusive. The author feels that this passage goes in accordance with the earlier situation described in Zechariah 10:3. In both passages it is made clear that the leaders (shepherds) of Israel have made the Lord angry. Zechariah is describing the social disorder and the peoples' dishonesty toward each other that has overwhelmed the community before it will be restored by God. This commentary is certain that the doomed flock is in fact Israel, but is unsure whom the sheep merchants represent. Their guess is that they may be the workers in the temple who have hired Zechariah. The shepherd is understood as symbolizing a ruling, most likely a prophetic one. Zechariah is telling his audience that Israel is in total disarray and the leaders aren't doing anything to help, in fact some are making the situation worse. God is permitting the corruption by sitting on His hands. While doing so, he stresses the need for repentance so the corrupt community may be restored. The prophet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During this time, they were evolving from what Birch would call Yawahist into Judaism "Yahwism emerged that allowed for worship in diverse geographical and social setting but insisted on a worship of Yahweh alone. Again we get the theological and existential question of "who are we" in the return to Israel just like what was happening for them during their exile. Some tension came from the Persia giving authority to Zerubbabel (descendant of Jehoiachin) as civil governor and Joshua (descendant of Zakok) as high priest which we see in Haggai 1:1; 2:2. • 66. Zechariah Is The Doctrine Of End Times One of the major themes of the book of Zechariah is Old Testament Eschatology. Eschatology is the doctrine of end times, or the study of last things. Zechariah's message is divided into three main sections. The first section, chapters 1–8, is considered apocalyptic and is filled with eight visions succeeding one another in one night. The second section, chapters 7–8, delivered two years later, are an answer to the question whether the days of fasting and mourning for the destruction of the city should be kept any longer, and an assurance to the people of God 's presence and blessing. The third and final section, chapters 9–14, consists of two oracles. The first oracle (9–11) addresses God 's dealings with His people. The second oracle (12–14) points out the final conflict and triumph of God 's kingdom. In the first section, Zechariah details a series of eight supernatural visions the Lord reveals to Him. These visions are apocalyptic in nature and are communicated to encourage the people to finish rebuilding the Temple, which at that point was five months into reconstruction. These visions are given to relay hope for the people's future and the future of the city of the Temple, Jerusalem. The first vision (1:7–17) consists of four angelic riders on four horses of various colors. The angelic rider on the red horse dismounts his horse in the middle of a grove of myrtle trees. Haggai urged the people of Jerusalem to rebuild the temple of God while Zechariah called for spiritual renewal among God's people. During the time of Haggai a decree was issued allowing conquered peoples who were deported by the Babylonians to return to their homelands. During this time the first group of emigrants returned to Jerusalem. Scripture states in Haggai 1:7–8, "Thus says the Lord of hosts: 'Consider your ways! Go up to the mountains and bring wood and build the temple, that I may take pleasure in it and be glorified', says the Lord" (New King James Version). The Lord is showing the people that it is only through Him that the temple will be finished and ready for worship. At this time the people were guilty of the same covenant violations as the generation that was sent into exile. The Lord sent Zechariah to offer the people a solution to their problems of sin and rebellion by genuinely repenting and returning to God. God knew that "only spiritual renewal could foster true worship and meaningful service in the temple" once it was finished (HW 691). Zechariah's encouragement took many forms including a series of visions and repeated reference to the words of former prophets. Zechariah's visions reminded the people that God cared for them and all that they were struggling with. Zechariah's messages from the Lord were full of hope confirming that the Lord was continuing His covenant with them and was not going to forsake them. • 79. The Birth Narrative Of Jesus Christ As children many of us were told or taught the birth narrative of Jesus Christ. The story was much simpler, Mary the wife of Joseph was told by Gabriel the angel she was in favor of God because she had been faithful to him. Though Mary was a virgin God preformed a miracle and Mary bore a child. He was born in manger and surrounded by shepherds and wise men who brought gifts to their new savior. For most of us that is the story of Jesus's birth and in the New Testament Matthew and Luke tell a similar story, but reading the text the audience can find some subtle and significant differences. In this paper I will discuss the implications of reading both Matthew and Luke. Conferring my research to what is presented within the New Testament I will argue that Matthew and Luke told the story that they had heard from oral tradition and this can prove that the basic facts of both gospels are mainly true but are changed through generations. To first understand my thesis, we must know the story of Matthew and Luke. To begin I will focus on the differences of Matthew and follow with Luke. 1:1–1:17 establishes the genealogy of Jesus1. Matthew follows his ancestry to Abraham, the father of Isaac2. He continues with the son Jacob the father of Judah and so on3.
