The document discusses technologies used to create a magazine, including Photoshop, InDesign, and blogging. Photoshop was used to edit images, manipulate layers, insert text, and adjust colors. InDesign allowed for quick layout of double page spreads and contents once the author learned how to highlight and change settings for multiple elements. Blogging enabled the author to easily upload, edit, and read over research and production work in one centralized place. Overall, the author found various digital technologies like Photoshop and InDesign initially challenging but quick and useful once familiar with their functions.
1. “WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT
TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OF
CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT?”
Question 6
2. NEW TECHNOLOGY
Using the right technology is important in making a successful media product. Without
modern technology, such as ‘photoshop’ and ‘InDesign’, I think it would of been very hard
for me to have created my magazine.
We used digital SLR cameras to take our images, these are useful as they take good
quality images which means not much editing is needed.
The phrase ‘desktop publisher’ comes from the old technique of making magazines.
They cut and pasted all the text and images themselves, and edited it on a large board.
Now this new technology enabled us to edit it all on a computer and print the final result.
Blogging is a new method used to present all the research, planning and production. I
have enjoyed using blogger as it enables me to quickly upload small blogs I have made
and can easily go back and edit or change a blog if needed. This has helped me as I
have frequently forgotten to blog certain pieces of information and need to add them in.
Blogging has also enabled me to read over all my work on one screen and in one place.
This helps me to see how my work has improved or decreased from the beginning and
on individual blogs.
Blogger is also a clear way for me to present my work, being such a messy worker and
writer, this has boosted my efficiency of work as I can just blog my thoughts and ideas on
the internet instead of writing them all down.
I have never used blogger to present my work before so have found this enjoyable and
useful.
3. PHOTOSHOP
Photoshop is key in producing the front cover image, layout and text. I have learnt new
things about how to use photoshop from producing my magazine. Editing and
manipulating an image is easy and quick on this programme. Although at first it was
difficult for me to get hang of all the different layers and inserting text and images, I
found that when I knew, it was so quick and easy. With my main image, the original
colour was quite green and light, so I increased the brightness and contrast, them
decreased the saturation. This gave an image that could be used in a high class
magazine, such as my own.
In Design
We then used In Design to produce our double page spread and
contents page. Again, this was tricky to get the hang of at first, but once
I understood how to use it, it became quick to use. For example, getting
rid of the boxes around text involves highlighting it and changing a
setting, I then found out that I could highlight them all at once and
change them together, which made it so much easier.
