This music video for the song "Here with Me" by The Killers tells the story of a past relationship that went wrong. The main character regrets trusting their partner due to their infidelity. Images in the video connect to lyrics about seeing their ex in public and being reminded of them everywhere. At the end, the main character's dummy candle symbolizes the relationship burning out. The video was directed by Tim Burton and stars Winona Ryder. It uses dark colors and lighting to portray the sadness and mystery of the broken relationship through a conceptual storyline.

2. Storyline:
• In the killers “ here with me” the story line of the music video is based
upon a past relationship that went wrong and one person feels in the
relationship that they met at the wrong time, but they’d do the
relationship all over again if they could,despite the arguments. The video
then digresses to the regrets of the relationship and how much of a fool
they were to trust them over their infidelity. That the person they fell in
love with, was never who they thought they were.

• “Don’t need your picture, on my Cell phone. I want you here, with me” –
This lyric connects with the image within the music video when the main
character picks up his cell phone with a distressed mood
• “ I saw you in a restaurant the other day and instead of walking towards
you, I ran away” – This lyric connects within the music video as the young
main character, sees the woman he loves ever where, he is reminded of
her everywhere he goes.
• At the end of the video the main characters dummy is actually a candle,
this symbolises the flame of the relationship burning out between them
both.

3. Costume:
The band are wearing fairly obvious choices for a rock video, for example wearing leather jackets and
skinny jeans etc – Typical convention of a rock video.
The other main character played by actor craig Roberts is wearing all black, with a black trench coat –
This connotes sadness and the unknown.
The love interest played by Wynonna Ryder is wearing all right to create a connotation of
purity, light, goodness and innocence

4. Performance:
The majority of this video is of a conceptual style that is portrayed through an artist
Storyline/ abstract film. I’d say 2/3 of the video is conceptual and 1/3 performance.
USP:
The video itself was directed by Tim burton who is famous for his dark, gothic,
macabre and quirky take on horror and fantasy style movies. The music video also

5. Genre Characteristics
Alternative rock is generally anti-establishment and generally appeals to those who are somewhat anti –
establishment themselves. This is why a lot of the lyrics are about drugs or alcohol within the majority of songs,
however their has always been videos about romantic involvement or the pursuit of love and it being
unrequited.
How This video fits the conventions of the alternative rock genre:
• Setting for the video is quite abnormal an abandoned theatre
• Band appears to be wearing smart casual clothing which seems to be popular within the alternative rock
genre
• In ‘here with me’ The lighting is a contrast of light and dark, possibly to symbolise the relationship within
the video.
• There are constant close ups of the band ( mainly vocalist) and their instruments
• Long shots are used to capture the overall image of the narrative of the video
• Figure and expression is fairly relaxed/uncaring as portrayed from the artists however from a visual aspect
of the story line, its quite the opposite.
