3. - -Well known Canadian author/playwright from
right here in Edmonton, Alberta.
-He is best known for his 6 year run on CBS radio for
The Dim Sum Diaries about his life growing up as the
only Chinese family in a small town in Alberta.
-His talents take him from writing novels, playwrights,
and even children’s books.
-He is currently working with the Writers Guild of Alberta
to promote National Novel Writing Month.

5. Something we’re being asked to
do is research for the funding of
the Isabel Miller award. This will
include talking to companies to
find out the application/steps to
take in order to receive
donations.
-Looking for $3000 to
fund the ceremony plus
have extra money for
scholarships towards
summer camps!

-In the past WGA have put on day
camps to help teens who have an
interest in English and writing.
Currently, WGA is looking for extra
funding to be able to put on weeklong
writing camps.
-Inkpulse is their most popular day
camp in the summer for youth ages 12-
18. It focuses on sparking creativity
and imagination in the youth to help
inspire them to write their own short
stories and/or novels. This camp is
offered in many main cities throughout
Alberta.

7. -Awarded to an author of an English short story collection
or novel published in the previous year.
-They begin with a long list of up to 15 novels, and then
work their way down to the short list of up to 10 novels.
-Originally had a cash prize of $25,000. However, in
2005, Scotia Bank sponsored the event and by 2006 they
increased the cash prize to $50,000 for the winner and
$5,000 for each of the shortlisted nominees.

the Write Click newsletter.
-Gain access to manuscript reading
services, members only sections of the
WGA website, meeting space, and member
organized writing groups.
-They receive reduced rates for writing
retreats and workshops.
