1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
I felt that over the course of making mymagazine I have developed a clear understanding of
the conventions that are included in real media productions thatare offered to the public.
“Vogue” magazine was a key influence for my magazine, even though it has a completely
different type of style, my unique selling pointwould be how I have adapted the fashion
magazine culture into my music magazine style so this would make mymagazine different
from all of the other pop music magazines due to the nature of its content as I have evoked
vogues sleek magazine look butI have adapted its content to a music magazine. As it I very
high end magazine and extremely popular to my target audience resulting in itbeing an easy
inspiration for my magazine. Therefore I thoughtI would develop and challenge myknowledge
of “Vogue’s” layout and audience and interpretand change it to my music magazine creating a
high end music magazine ‘LOUD’,I feel like even though it was based upon a different genre I
have challenged myknowledge and adapted itto incorporate itinto my pages creating my own
articles which would appeal to the high end teens in order to provide them with a clear
understanding ofthe genre of my music mymagazine I covering, high end pop. Vogue is a
good magazine to base mine upon as Ihave been acknowledging itsince the age of 12
resulting in me becoming very familiar with whatappeals to the target audience for things
relating with colour schemes,models/cover stories and tags (everything the audience could
want from their magazine). In order for the reader to recognise the differentcontent and gene
of the magazine I have made sure I have provided the reader with a clear understanding of he
genre of my magazine (pop) by relating the cover stories and the overall images on myproduct
to be as one would be on a serious pop magazine.SimilarlyI have included:interviews with
pop band members- reviews ofmusic festivals- the latestup to date info on the bands and pop
solo artists- exclusive stories on new music being produced, however I have created brand
new characters for the purpose ofmy magazine butI have based them off the real pop s tars
for example,Katy Perry and One Direction, this will appeal to the people who like this style of
music and are familiar to the based upon pop artists.Through outmy issue,Ihave included the
generic conventions ofa magazine to make my product look more professional and enable the
reader to be more familiar with the layout. For example on my cover page I have used a
skyline;with information regarding free posters whatare in my issue- masthead;the title of the
magazine is ‘LOUD’ I have put this in a very clear, bold, large font on the top left hand side of
my page so that it is the first thing the audience sees when theylook at my cover, also it is the
largesttext on the page demonstrating its importance- barcode;with this,I have included he
issue number, the price of the issue and the date of release,This is all done so that the reader
knows all the relevant information aboutthe magazine withoutopening it.- colour scheme;I
have developed a clear colour scheme being differentshades of purple and pink with white and
black and grey gradientappealing to the female audience which mymagazine is aimed at-
cover stories to describe the contentof the magazine - cover image;my cover image is related
to my double page spread exclusive interview, the image its selfis a medium long shot so that
you can see all of her facial features and her body language bringing in a secondaryaudience
of men ,due to her bustand waistline being revealed, throughout their sex appeal butalso so
that the reader can see the background ofthe photo shootroom, butthe primary audience will
gain uses and gratifications as theywill aspire to look like her, this makes the image look more
interesting to the reader,I decided not to developed the original image and turn the overall
gradientblack and grey but kept the lips pink as I feel it would of made mymagazine more
young and made it seem as ifit would appeal to more of a fashion magazine and thatwas not
the genre I am focusing on therefor I decided to keep the image the same to give off more of a
mature edgy vibe. The colour of the models top link with the masthead as theyare the same
colour, this immediatelydraws the readers attention to either her figure then her facial features
or the masthead, this alludes thatthe content of the magazine is more mature butdue to the
hip and currentoutfit it targets my primaryaudience - font; I have varied my fonts on my page
to demonstrate the importance ofdifferentarticles however all of the text is very large and clear
to make it easier for the reader to read, similarlythe texts are in different colours rather than
justone, this is done to make my page look more interesting and to stand outmore but they
are all still relating to my colour scheme using differentshades ofpink , this is done to make
my page look more interesting and appealing to the readers eyes, also I have created a
repetitive theme with the cover stories making the headline pink and the extra information
relating to the article white connoting hatthe headline is the mostimportantbutit then entices
the reader to read more. The background behind mycover image has a mesh undertone;I
have done this to again create more of a rebellious edgyfeel to m magazine as itgives that bit
extra that’s needed so it does notsee plain. I developed the basic conventions ofa magazine
to fit my own personal preference, which Ithink would attract my target audience.Overall, I
would say that “Vogue” magazine is a big inspirations to my music magazine “LOUD” due to
the popular conventions which I have then developed to fit the conventions of the high end pop
music magazine Iwanted to create. Within the creation of my magazine I have not really stuck
to my flat plans and I have developed and changed the layout and formatof it to fit my personal
preference but I have suck to some ofmy initial ideas for the layout, throughoutmaking my
productI have developed my skill therefor this lead me to stray away my initial ideas and flat
plans due to my knew knowledge of how to make a good popular music magazine thatwould
appeal to the public that are reading the issue.
2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?
I have planned for my magazine to have a target audience ofpop fans between the ages of16-
25 with a gender preference of females as these people are stereotyped as being very mature
yet still wild with a passion for gossip in the music world and the need to know what’s
happening, and the low down on every detail to stay popular and in, as it is high end the target
audience would have to be classyyet vibrant and bubbly and very girly (girly girl love the colour
pink). Also as the women gender is displayed as very passive and the males dominantIthough
that it would geta wide range of views as females have their own magazine justfor them so
that they are dominantand in control for once. With regards to this I have also tried to appeal
to the other gender of males slightlyby using a very pretty model for my cover image so they
gain a sexual appeal from reading the magazine and it would encourage them do read
throughoutthe uses and grats oflust. Overall, I do not feel that my magazine issue is uni-sex
due to my very strict colour scheme of pink;therefore this does affect the sales rate and the
annual revenue due to lower sales,as tdoes not appeal to the other gender. However, I would
create another issue for justmales on their high end pop preference to expand my sales
revenue and the audience of my magazine creating more ofa income and a brand recognition
possiblymaking their main colour scheme a very stereo typical dominantblue colour, butI felt
the issue Imade for my productshould be for the target audience of females as that’s who my
magazine would primarilyappeal to and it links back to my inspiration ofa vogue magazine
which has a very clear primaryaudience of females and an inherited audience ofmales. Most
of the participants thatfilled out my questionnaire were girls this tells me thatthe gender most
likely to buy my magazine is girls rather than boys, however if I was to advertise ‘LOUD’ as an
all gender magazine and change the over all colour scheme Imay be able to attract more boys
as well.My model Jess is also 18 so she falls under mycategory for my target audience age
range, throughoutmy issue she is seen wearing fun flirty tops then a more serious autumn look
for all seasons,he does a range of poses thatvary from fun and flirt to very serious outlook.I
wanted Jess to be a model or my magazine because ofher cool look and her age range,I
hoped that this would appeal more towards mytarget audience as the would wantto be like
her and look like her and maybe introduce a male audience through sexual connotations of
lust. Most of my magazines creation is based upon myown persona preference however I
have taken into accountmy research when designing certain aspects ofthe magazine.
3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Publishing houses are companies who work on getting information outto the public in forms of;
magazines,books,adverts,billboards and newspapers.Some examples ofthese company’s
include;Bauer Media Group, Future PLC, Prometheus Global Media,The EgmontFoundation,
Immediate Media Company.I have selected ‘Conde Nasta’ as mymagazines publishing house
as this is the publisher for vogue which my magazine is based upon, similarly my publishing
house publishes to 23 different nationalities and regional editions meaning itis a very well
known and ide spread publishing house so mymagazine would become globallyrecognised.
During my research I have found out that ‘Conde Nasta’ revenue is $7.8 billion, the company
itselfattracts more than 164 million consumes across its 20 printand digital media brands.
4. who would be the audience for your media product?
Shortly after I conducted my marketresearch, which involved me making a questionnaire on
survey monkeyand having conversations and group chats with my friends,I quickly decided
that I wanted to create a magazine that would appeal to people preferablyfemales between the
age of 16-23.I wanted to this as from the startI have wanted to do a high end pop magazine
as I feel there is not many high end pop music magazines and stereo typical pop magazines
are normallybased to target the younger audiences between 11-16 and Ifelt I would try and
change that and stray from the giant bubble texts and give quiet a classyolder feel for my
audience,I wanted to create a product that would relate more to females and the older
teens/women and is more classyand trendy rather than childish and bold. After looking at
vogue I feel that especiallyon he front cover it is very stylish and trendy and the layout is very
professional and theydiscus high end fashion so Ithough I would feature the comparison of
fashion and pop music and try and stray vogue from the typical conventions and base itupon
my pop music genre.Iwanted to appeal my magazine singularlytowards females or
homosexual males therefor this is why I have stuck to my colour scheme ofpink and purples
as these colours are stereo typically paired with females or homosexual males.Ifelt I had to
make a music magazine (mainly) strictly for young women as there is no magazines based
solelyfor women, where as men have their own magazine such as “ZOO” or “FHM”. As I am in
the target range I am familiar with the language choices people this age often use,
colloquialisms such as “aggy”, so I have included this style of vocabulary register as it suits my
target audience.SimilarlyI am also familiar with the topics of conversation within my target
audience;love, girly gossip, new music, new trends, latestsingers and bands this links with my
double page spread as Ihave included some romance questions butno were near enough to
sway it from the overall purpose to be a pop magazine.
5. How did you attract/address your audience?
As I have previously said in question 2,the people in my target range are stereo typed as
being very mature yet still wild with a passion for gossip in the music world and the need to
know what’s happening, and the low down on every detail to stay popular and in, as it is high
end the target audience would have to be classyyet vibrant and bubbly and very girly group of
people,so I have adapted my production in certain ways to follow some ofthese stereo types
in order to make my magazine more appealing to the target buyer, With me wanting to have
my magazine appealing to a certain specific gender (female) Ihave carefully selected my
colour palletto create something thatwill attract the attention of that single gender and
preferably not both (however my magazine can also be seen as aimed toward homosexual
males).Similarly, with my vocabulary register I went for a slightlyformal tone to my text as I am
again pushing mymagazine as a higher end pop magazine there fore the language mustbe
quietformal to representmaturity. Throughputmy magazine I have used images which would
appeal to my target audience due to few factors including;my model is wearing a simple white
top and a pink plaid skirtwhich is considered fashionable there for my audience would wear
something similar to this or would want to wear this, jess is also a very pretty young woman
there for my target audience would aspire to look like her or could consider her as an
inspiration or a role model too look up to or aspire to be her. I had my model pose in certain
ways, for example, the main image on my double page spread is a close up o my models face
where she is looking over her shoulder with her head tilted and her lips slightlypouted instead
of smiling as after having years of social media accounts Ihave noticed the very popular trend
of pouting amongst16-23/24 year old females. This makes her seem very beautiful and model
like, I did this to representhow she in my magazine is representing a new fashionable, cool,
beautiful, young pop artist (who my audience can aspire and long to be like demonstrating
uses and gratifications) who’s breaking through the golden oldies and she is a fresh face which
the article is about, similarlydue to her facial structure “pout” this makes the audience feel like
she is one of them so they feel more welcomed and intrigued to read the article there for
attracting and luring in the audience through her beauty and their aspiration. The colour and
style of font is also very importantfor my headlines and mastheads Ihave used the font
“couture”, “dubiel plain”,“cocogoose” and “ever after”, these font are very bold but quietsharp
edged this again gives of my maturity appeal butis still a very hit and ‘cool’ looking fontwhich
my target audience would appreciate and be drawn towards.I have also made sure that
throughoutmy issue Ihave used a variety of different shades ofcolours butI still stuck to my
colour palletto keep my audience interested and intrigues as manymagazines on the market
stick to the same old plain black and white font and there is no diversange and I feel like that is
very dull and wanted something more exiting and hip for my magazine and as my magazine
target audience is still quietyoung and hip I decided to stick to3 or 4 main colours then vary the
fonts so it is not to childlike for them as they may be put off my magazine if I used over the top
brightcolours such as yellow and orange throughoutmy whole magazine as itis vey childlike.
As well as marketresearch,I asked the opinion ofsome ofmy class mates and Ifound when I
made my firstinitial magazine it was still very plan and not hit and classyenough like I wanted
and it was more ofa fashion magazine there for I decided to completelyre do my front cover
and sway and adapt from my initial ideas (popletpresentation) and try something new,the final
out come I was extremely pleased with,I had a meshyundertone background to interestmy
audience and make itstand out compared to others and I created a magazine that appeals to
my target audience of 16-23.
6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing
the product?
In September when I first started the course one of my weakestpoints was defiantlythe
use of photo shop, however during the construction ofmy magazine my skills gradually
become increased as Iwas becoming more familiar with the productand I was exploring
the different tools within the programme,Iam now overwhelmed and personallyhappy
with my ability to use photo shop with a clear understanding.Ihave also developed a very
clear depth understanding ofhow the apple macs we use (as we use them in class to work
on) as in September I had no knowledge ofthe apple macs so I had very little experience
from a mac point of view so I am still exploring all of its features but within the
programmes Ihave alreadyused I am very happy with the process Iam making and I feel
that you defiantly achieve the bestresults using the apple mac computers as ithas a very
smartformatand everything is setout in a very professional format, you can easilyaccess
a wide range of software’s by simplyopening up the applications folder, you can print
screen very easily, similarlyyou are allocated your own apple mac computer so that you
are very familiar with the layout of your own particular one and you can change the setting
to your personal preference and have all of the tabs whatyou would like open across the
side and bottom of the screen.Likewise Ihad never heard of the programme InDesign or
online software’s like Popletand Prezi but I am very proud of myselfas I was able to very
quickly understand the process ofthem and how the worked so I could create a product
and use the different online methods to plan the making ofmy product. In design solely
helped my create my contents page to a standard I am extremely happy with due to the
help of columns and keeping all myheaders and text in line and I feel it was a lot easier to
use than photo shop which I wasn’tthe bestat first. I was very familiar with the
photographyside of everything as I have had an interestin taking beautiful photographs
since I was little so when we shotthem in the studio I felt lie my skills had developed as I
had never had the experience of using the high tech lighting or white and green screen
backgrounds so myphotographyskills have also increased to a standard I am extremely
happy with. I wentinto my media class with basicallymy eyes closed and a limited amount
of skill from GCSE media butnow I feel very confidentwithin my selfto use a brand new
range of software’s and online programmes and Iam very confidentin using them.
7. Looking back to your preliminary task, what do you feel that you have
learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
Comparing mypreliminarytask to the final productI have now is probablylaughable,Ihave
come a very long way with this task and I have tried my best no matter how many attempts it
took I needed itto be perfect! I have tried to excel myselfto the bestof my ability on the
technologyI have used and on the creativity front. I have defiantly become more aware of the
general conventions fa magazine (even when I walk pastthen in shops Ican point them out I
am that use to them) however the different style of fonts and images have made myproduct
unique and differentfrom everyone else’s in the way that I wanted it to appeal to my target
audience,in my opinion it is better than anything I have ever imagined and ithas now inspired
me to want to do something in the future to do with publication or journalism within the
magazine business. The planning for my productwas extremely important, as I wouldn’thave
had a foundation to go of if I didn’tplan it out and I wouldn’tbe able to see the progress Ihave
made withoutone.I Had created a variety of different flat plans on word and even hand drawn
based on my favourite magazines (vogue) to inspire the layout of my magazine (butstill sway it
from the fashion side ofvogue and adaptthe layout to fit the music conventions) as itenabled
me to have a good idea where everything is going and where everything could go, and it gave
me a rough idea of how my magazine should look after I had completed it. Before any of the
planning stages had begun Iconducted research into the following;publishing houses- this
was importantas itgave me an insight of the magazines thatwere already on the market, how
different publications and genres can be formatted, audience research- Iwanted to know what
the public/my class mates would feel looked better on my magazine and what masthead they
proffered, peer feedback- I felt this one of the mostimportantaspects ofthe developmentofmy
magazine as they could give me a quick opinion on how my magazine as looking and as I
would ask the girls in my age gap it was like getting an insighton what my target audience was
thinking, there for I considered the peer feedback the mostbeneficial method. The use of my
call sheets and risk assessmentsheetwere a very crucial part of the making of my magazine
as withoutthem I could not asses the initial risks and problems or the ignition issues Iwould
have faced during construction, similarlyithelped you plan your costume and the props and
the back drop of your shots so it all pieced together the making ofmy final piece. Thanks to
online tutorials, peer support, help from my teacher and basic repeated attempts oftrial and
error I think I have create a productthat suits the briefquiet well and is very different from the
stereotypical choices ofmagazine to produce.Comparing whatIknow from the preliminary
task and the main task I have gained a very clear, deep understanding ofhow the target
audience effects every part of the planning, production and evaluation ofthe making of my and
a magazine.

My eveluation

  • 1. 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? I felt that over the course of making mymagazine I have developed a clear understanding of the conventions that are included in real media productions thatare offered to the public. “Vogue” magazine was a key influence for my magazine, even though it has a completely different type of style, my unique selling pointwould be how I have adapted the fashion magazine culture into my music magazine style so this would make mymagazine different from all of the other pop music magazines due to the nature of its content as I have evoked vogues sleek magazine look butI have adapted its content to a music magazine. As it I very high end magazine and extremely popular to my target audience resulting in itbeing an easy inspiration for my magazine. Therefore I thoughtI would develop and challenge myknowledge of “Vogue’s” layout and audience and interpretand change it to my music magazine creating a high end music magazine ‘LOUD’,I feel like even though it was based upon a different genre I have challenged myknowledge and adapted itto incorporate itinto my pages creating my own articles which would appeal to the high end teens in order to provide them with a clear understanding ofthe genre of my music mymagazine I covering, high end pop. Vogue is a good magazine to base mine upon as Ihave been acknowledging itsince the age of 12 resulting in me becoming very familiar with whatappeals to the target audience for things relating with colour schemes,models/cover stories and tags (everything the audience could want from their magazine). In order for the reader to recognise the differentcontent and gene of the magazine I have made sure I have provided the reader with a clear understanding of he genre of my magazine (pop) by relating the cover stories and the overall images on myproduct to be as one would be on a serious pop magazine.SimilarlyI have included:interviews with pop band members- reviews ofmusic festivals- the latestup to date info on the bands and pop solo artists- exclusive stories on new music being produced, however I have created brand new characters for the purpose ofmy magazine butI have based them off the real pop s tars for example,Katy Perry and One Direction, this will appeal to the people who like this style of music and are familiar to the based upon pop artists.Through outmy issue,Ihave included the generic conventions ofa magazine to make my product look more professional and enable the reader to be more familiar with the layout. For example on my cover page I have used a skyline;with information regarding free posters whatare in my issue- masthead;the title of the magazine is ‘LOUD’ I have put this in a very clear, bold, large font on the top left hand side of my page so that it is the first thing the audience sees when theylook at my cover, also it is the largesttext on the page demonstrating its importance- barcode;with this,I have included he issue number, the price of the issue and the date of release,This is all done so that the reader knows all the relevant information aboutthe magazine withoutopening it.- colour scheme;I have developed a clear colour scheme being differentshades of purple and pink with white and black and grey gradientappealing to the female audience which mymagazine is aimed at- cover stories to describe the contentof the magazine - cover image;my cover image is related to my double page spread exclusive interview, the image its selfis a medium long shot so that you can see all of her facial features and her body language bringing in a secondaryaudience of men ,due to her bustand waistline being revealed, throughout their sex appeal butalso so that the reader can see the background ofthe photo shootroom, butthe primary audience will gain uses and gratifications as theywill aspire to look like her, this makes the image look more interesting to the reader,I decided not to developed the original image and turn the overall gradientblack and grey but kept the lips pink as I feel it would of made mymagazine more young and made it seem as ifit would appeal to more of a fashion magazine and thatwas not the genre I am focusing on therefor I decided to keep the image the same to give off more of a mature edgy vibe. The colour of the models top link with the masthead as theyare the same colour, this immediatelydraws the readers attention to either her figure then her facial features or the masthead, this alludes thatthe content of the magazine is more mature butdue to the hip and currentoutfit it targets my primaryaudience - font; I have varied my fonts on my page to demonstrate the importance ofdifferentarticles however all of the text is very large and clear to make it easier for the reader to read, similarlythe texts are in different colours rather than justone, this is done to make my page look more interesting and to stand outmore but they are all still relating to my colour scheme using differentshades ofpink , this is done to make my page look more interesting and appealing to the readers eyes, also I have created a repetitive theme with the cover stories making the headline pink and the extra information relating to the article white connoting hatthe headline is the mostimportantbutit then entices the reader to read more. The background behind mycover image has a mesh undertone;I have done this to again create more of a rebellious edgyfeel to m magazine as itgives that bit extra that’s needed so it does notsee plain. I developed the basic conventions ofa magazine to fit my own personal preference, which Ithink would attract my target audience.Overall, I would say that “Vogue” magazine is a big inspirations to my music magazine “LOUD” due to the popular conventions which I have then developed to fit the conventions of the high end pop music magazine Iwanted to create. Within the creation of my magazine I have not really stuck
  • 2. to my flat plans and I have developed and changed the layout and formatof it to fit my personal preference but I have suck to some ofmy initial ideas for the layout, throughoutmaking my productI have developed my skill therefor this lead me to stray away my initial ideas and flat plans due to my knew knowledge of how to make a good popular music magazine thatwould appeal to the public that are reading the issue. 2. How does your media product represent particular social groups? I have planned for my magazine to have a target audience ofpop fans between the ages of16- 25 with a gender preference of females as these people are stereotyped as being very mature yet still wild with a passion for gossip in the music world and the need to know what’s happening, and the low down on every detail to stay popular and in, as it is high end the target audience would have to be classyyet vibrant and bubbly and very girly (girly girl love the colour pink). Also as the women gender is displayed as very passive and the males dominantIthough that it would geta wide range of views as females have their own magazine justfor them so that they are dominantand in control for once. With regards to this I have also tried to appeal to the other gender of males slightlyby using a very pretty model for my cover image so they gain a sexual appeal from reading the magazine and it would encourage them do read throughoutthe uses and grats oflust. Overall, I do not feel that my magazine issue is uni-sex due to my very strict colour scheme of pink;therefore this does affect the sales rate and the annual revenue due to lower sales,as tdoes not appeal to the other gender. However, I would create another issue for justmales on their high end pop preference to expand my sales revenue and the audience of my magazine creating more ofa income and a brand recognition possiblymaking their main colour scheme a very stereo typical dominantblue colour, butI felt the issue Imade for my productshould be for the target audience of females as that’s who my magazine would primarilyappeal to and it links back to my inspiration ofa vogue magazine which has a very clear primaryaudience of females and an inherited audience ofmales. Most of the participants thatfilled out my questionnaire were girls this tells me thatthe gender most likely to buy my magazine is girls rather than boys, however if I was to advertise ‘LOUD’ as an all gender magazine and change the over all colour scheme Imay be able to attract more boys as well.My model Jess is also 18 so she falls under mycategory for my target audience age range, throughoutmy issue she is seen wearing fun flirty tops then a more serious autumn look for all seasons,he does a range of poses thatvary from fun and flirt to very serious outlook.I wanted Jess to be a model or my magazine because ofher cool look and her age range,I hoped that this would appeal more towards mytarget audience as the would wantto be like her and look like her and maybe introduce a male audience through sexual connotations of lust. Most of my magazines creation is based upon myown persona preference however I have taken into accountmy research when designing certain aspects ofthe magazine. 3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? Publishing houses are companies who work on getting information outto the public in forms of; magazines, books, adverts, billboards and newspapers. Some examples ofthese company’s include;Bauer Media Group, Future PLC, Prometheus Global Media,The EgmontFoundation, Immediate Media Company.I have selected ‘Conde Nasta’ as mymagazines publishing house as this is the publisher for vogue which my magazine is based upon, similarly my publishing house publishes to 23 different nationalities and regional editions meaning itis a very well known and ide spread publishing house so mymagazine would become globallyrecognised. During my research I have found out that ‘Conde Nasta’ revenue is $7.8 billion, the company itselfattracts more than 164 million consumes across its 20 printand digital media brands. 4. who would be the audience for your media product? Shortly after I conducted my marketresearch, which involved me making a questionnaire on survey monkeyand having conversations and group chats with my friends,I quickly decided that I wanted to create a magazine that would appeal to people preferablyfemales between the age of 16-23.I wanted to this as from the startI have wanted to do a high end pop magazine as I feel there is not many high end pop music magazines and stereo typical pop magazines are normallybased to target the younger audiences between 11-16 and Ifelt I would try and change that and stray from the giant bubble texts and give quiet a classyolder feel for my audience,I wanted to create a product that would relate more to females and the older teens/women and is more classyand trendy rather than childish and bold. After looking at vogue I feel that especiallyon he front cover it is very stylish and trendy and the layout is very professional and theydiscus high end fashion so Ithough I would feature the comparison of fashion and pop music and try and stray vogue from the typical conventions and base itupon
  • 3. my pop music genre.Iwanted to appeal my magazine singularlytowards females or homosexual males therefor this is why I have stuck to my colour scheme ofpink and purples as these colours are stereo typically paired with females or homosexual males.Ifelt I had to make a music magazine (mainly) strictly for young women as there is no magazines based solelyfor women, where as men have their own magazine such as “ZOO” or “FHM”. As I am in the target range I am familiar with the language choices people this age often use, colloquialisms such as “aggy”, so I have included this style of vocabulary register as it suits my target audience.SimilarlyI am also familiar with the topics of conversation within my target audience;love, girly gossip, new music, new trends, latestsingers and bands this links with my double page spread as Ihave included some romance questions butno were near enough to sway it from the overall purpose to be a pop magazine. 5. How did you attract/address your audience? As I have previously said in question 2,the people in my target range are stereo typed as being very mature yet still wild with a passion for gossip in the music world and the need to know what’s happening, and the low down on every detail to stay popular and in, as it is high end the target audience would have to be classyyet vibrant and bubbly and very girly group of people,so I have adapted my production in certain ways to follow some ofthese stereo types in order to make my magazine more appealing to the target buyer, With me wanting to have my magazine appealing to a certain specific gender (female) Ihave carefully selected my colour palletto create something thatwill attract the attention of that single gender and preferably not both (however my magazine can also be seen as aimed toward homosexual males).Similarly, with my vocabulary register I went for a slightlyformal tone to my text as I am again pushing mymagazine as a higher end pop magazine there fore the language mustbe quietformal to representmaturity. Throughputmy magazine I have used images which would appeal to my target audience due to few factors including;my model is wearing a simple white top and a pink plaid skirtwhich is considered fashionable there for my audience would wear something similar to this or would want to wear this, jess is also a very pretty young woman there for my target audience would aspire to look like her or could consider her as an inspiration or a role model too look up to or aspire to be her. I had my model pose in certain ways, for example, the main image on my double page spread is a close up o my models face where she is looking over her shoulder with her head tilted and her lips slightlypouted instead of smiling as after having years of social media accounts Ihave noticed the very popular trend of pouting amongst16-23/24 year old females. This makes her seem very beautiful and model like, I did this to representhow she in my magazine is representing a new fashionable, cool, beautiful, young pop artist (who my audience can aspire and long to be like demonstrating uses and gratifications) who’s breaking through the golden oldies and she is a fresh face which the article is about, similarlydue to her facial structure “pout” this makes the audience feel like she is one of them so they feel more welcomed and intrigued to read the article there for attracting and luring in the audience through her beauty and their aspiration. The colour and style of font is also very importantfor my headlines and mastheads Ihave used the font “couture”, “dubiel plain”,“cocogoose” and “ever after”, these font are very bold but quietsharp edged this again gives of my maturity appeal butis still a very hit and ‘cool’ looking fontwhich my target audience would appreciate and be drawn towards.I have also made sure that throughoutmy issue Ihave used a variety of different shades ofcolours butI still stuck to my colour palletto keep my audience interested and intrigues as manymagazines on the market stick to the same old plain black and white font and there is no diversange and I feel like that is very dull and wanted something more exiting and hip for my magazine and as my magazine target audience is still quietyoung and hip I decided to stick to3 or 4 main colours then vary the fonts so it is not to childlike for them as they may be put off my magazine if I used over the top brightcolours such as yellow and orange throughoutmy whole magazine as itis vey childlike. As well as marketresearch,I asked the opinion ofsome ofmy class mates and Ifound when I made my firstinitial magazine it was still very plan and not hit and classyenough like I wanted and it was more ofa fashion magazine there for I decided to completelyre do my front cover and sway and adapt from my initial ideas (popletpresentation) and try something new,the final out come I was extremely pleased with,I had a meshyundertone background to interestmy audience and make itstand out compared to others and I created a magazine that appeals to my target audience of 16-23. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing the product? In September when I first started the course one of my weakestpoints was defiantlythe use of photo shop, however during the construction ofmy magazine my skills gradually become increased as Iwas becoming more familiar with the productand I was exploring the different tools within the programme,Iam now overwhelmed and personallyhappy
  • 4. with my ability to use photo shop with a clear understanding.Ihave also developed a very clear depth understanding ofhow the apple macs we use (as we use them in class to work on) as in September I had no knowledge ofthe apple macs so I had very little experience from a mac point of view so I am still exploring all of its features but within the programmes Ihave alreadyused I am very happy with the process Iam making and I feel that you defiantly achieve the bestresults using the apple mac computers as ithas a very smartformatand everything is setout in a very professional format, you can easilyaccess a wide range of software’s by simplyopening up the applications folder, you can print screen very easily, similarlyyou are allocated your own apple mac computer so that you are very familiar with the layout of your own particular one and you can change the setting to your personal preference and have all of the tabs whatyou would like open across the side and bottom of the screen.Likewise Ihad never heard of the programme InDesign or online software’s like Popletand Prezi but I am very proud of myselfas I was able to very quickly understand the process ofthem and how the worked so I could create a product and use the different online methods to plan the making ofmy product. In design solely helped my create my contents page to a standard I am extremely happy with due to the help of columns and keeping all myheaders and text in line and I feel it was a lot easier to use than photo shop which I wasn’tthe bestat first. I was very familiar with the photographyside of everything as I have had an interestin taking beautiful photographs since I was little so when we shotthem in the studio I felt lie my skills had developed as I had never had the experience of using the high tech lighting or white and green screen backgrounds so myphotographyskills have also increased to a standard I am extremely happy with. I wentinto my media class with basicallymy eyes closed and a limited amount of skill from GCSE media butnow I feel very confidentwithin my selfto use a brand new range of software’s and online programmes and Iam very confidentin using them. 7. Looking back to your preliminary task, what do you feel that you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? Comparing mypreliminarytask to the final productI have now is probablylaughable,Ihave come a very long way with this task and I have tried my best no matter how many attempts it took I needed itto be perfect! I have tried to excel myselfto the bestof my ability on the technologyI have used and on the creativity front. I have defiantly become more aware of the general conventions fa magazine (even when I walk pastthen in shops Ican point them out I am that use to them) however the different style of fonts and images have made myproduct unique and differentfrom everyone else’s in the way that I wanted it to appeal to my target audience,in my opinion it is better than anything I have ever imagined and ithas now inspired me to want to do something in the future to do with publication or journalism within the magazine business. The planning for my productwas extremely important, as I wouldn’thave had a foundation to go of if I didn’tplan it out and I wouldn’tbe able to see the progress Ihave made withoutone.I Had created a variety of different flat plans on word and even hand drawn based on my favourite magazines (vogue) to inspire the layout of my magazine (butstill sway it from the fashion side ofvogue and adaptthe layout to fit the music conventions) as itenabled me to have a good idea where everything is going and where everything could go, and it gave me a rough idea of how my magazine should look after I had completed it. Before any of the planning stages had begun Iconducted research into the following;publishing houses- this was importantas itgave me an insight of the magazines thatwere already on the market, how different publications and genres can be formatted, audience research- Iwanted to know what the public/my class mates would feel looked better on my magazine and what masthead they proffered, peer feedback- I felt this one of the mostimportantaspects ofthe developmentofmy magazine as they could give me a quick opinion on how my magazine as looking and as I would ask the girls in my age gap it was like getting an insighton what my target audience was thinking, there for I considered the peer feedback the mostbeneficial method. The use of my call sheets and risk assessmentsheetwere a very crucial part of the making of my magazine as withoutthem I could not asses the initial risks and problems or the ignition issues Iwould have faced during construction, similarlyithelped you plan your costume and the props and the back drop of your shots so it all pieced together the making ofmy final piece. Thanks to online tutorials, peer support, help from my teacher and basic repeated attempts oftrial and error I think I have create a productthat suits the briefquiet well and is very different from the stereotypical choices ofmagazine to produce.Comparing whatIknow from the preliminary task and the main task I have gained a very clear, deep understanding ofhow the target audience effects every part of the planning, production and evaluation ofthe making of my and a magazine.
