1. The colour scheme of this is white, grey, black and red – very simplistic colours meaning the mis-en-scene is
very simple, not many props have been used on the cover. The main colours put together a classy
connotation but also a contempory look and feel. The colours make the page look sophisticated and easy on
my eye. The artist is sitting on a red and white stripe sheet on a box, this sticks with the colour scheme along
with the “USA” text, this gives the cover a very American feel. The typography of the text “USA” is very big
and bold in block representing America is a strong independent country. There is only one image on this
double page spread and it is on the left side of the magazine, this represents that it is the first thin g the
audience sees when they open the cover this demonstrates that she is the main feature of the article, as the
artist is in front of the “USA” text this demonstrates That the article is about her ‘Florence Welch’.
The background is all white which conflicts with the artist’s edgy black costume (white on black) these so
colours have a very effecting contrast- connotes good and bad. However as the artist is in black this
emphasises her and makes her stand out from the background this also again demonstrates that the article
is about her, the artists expression is very straight and edgy again linking in with the black costume creating
a quiet rebellious atmosphere. The feature headline reads “you got the love” this is the title of one of the
artists songs drawing in the inherited audience of Florence Welch fans, The primary audience is females who
want to read about her and as she is a beautiful figure they will aspire to be like her, if you read this article
you will know everything about her and you can be like her (uses and grats) , males will gain the uses and
grats of lust through a sexual connotation, similarly they will get this as her outfit is very provocative. Her
fiery red hair stands out the most on the page, this draws the readers eyes to her, her red hair connotes her
fiery passion for her music. The artist is looking directs at the audience this connotes dominance and she is
telling a story with her eyes ‘this is my story.’ The image gives of a very independent strong character
however the feature headlines fancy writing connotes that she is not always strong she has her weak times
too, this can appeal to the audience as it is revealing she is just like everyone else.
