The aim of the compulsory education in Bulgaria is not only to develop
knowledge, but also to provoke personal skills.
Great emphasis is placed on developing practical interest, on creativity
and critical self- estimation.
The school is based on humanistic and democratic ideals and aims to
promote values like tolerance and freedom of thought, equal status
to different social groups.
Pupils get basic learning knowledge in Maths, History, Geography,
Music, Art, foreign languages ….etc.

8. Secondary education
•For students who have completed primary education
•Lasts for 4 years
The Secondary education can be divided into :
- comprehensive (4 years) – 5 – 7/8 grade
- Profile oriented (5 years ) 7- 12 grade
Students can enter the profile-oriented schools upon
completion of grade 7(8) after passing extra examinations
(according to the profile of the school).
