 WHAT IS SENTENCE
 Definition
 Sentence is a word or group of words that expresses complete thought.
It begins with capital letter and ends with terminal mark.
 Examples
 He is my brother.
 What is your name?
 Be quite.
 Hurray! We have won the match.
 THERE ARE FOUR TYPES OF SENTENCES:
 SIMPLE SENTENCES
 COMPOUND SENTENCES
 COMPLEX SENTENCES
 COMPOUND COMPLEX SENTENCES
 Simple sentence has one independent
clause consisting of subject and predicate.

 She ate an apple.
 Sub predicate
 A compound sentence consists of at least two independent
clauses joined by coordinating conjunctions.

 A complex sentence consists of one independent
clause and al least one dependent clause joined
by subordinating conjunction.

 A complex compound sentence consists of at least two
independents and one or more dependent clauses.


Subject Predicate

There are two main parts of a sentence.
Predicate consists of verb and other words.
Subject is the doer of the action

single noun or a pronoun

Ali and Zafar are running

SIMPLE

Simple predicate is always
a verb or verb phrase
Children play cricket.
We read the newspaper
COMPOUND
PREDICATE
Two or more simple
predicate make a
compound predicate
Definition:
1. The person or thing that receives the action
of the subject is called the object of the
verb.
2. An object is a part of the verb on which
some action has been done.
Example:
He writes a letter.
I gave him a book.
They killed a snake.
My mother baked a pan cake.
 There are two kinds of object.
Direct Indirect
Direct object is receiver of the
action.
Indirect object identifies for whom
or what the action of very is
performed
I gave her a pen.He hit the ball.
He killed a snake. Ali helped his brother.
 Complement is required to complete grammatical
construction or predicate.
 She looks beautiful.
 Water is everywhere.
 She was happy.
 Ahmad is a teacher.
 Usman has become a lawyer.
