Bonds are debt instruments issued by organizations and governments to raise money for a period longer than one year. Bonds have a face value, coupon rate, maturity date, and are issued by an entity. The two main types are fixed rate bonds and floating rate bonds. Bonds can be corporate bonds, government bonds, or other specialized types. When interest rates rise, bond prices fall as newer bonds offer higher yields, and when interest rates fall, existing bond prices rise.
