Making Preservation Possible For City Skylines
Devon O'Geary Mrs. Hinner LNG 341 11 November 2015 Making Preservation Possible City
skylines can be easily recognized for their unique architectural features, such as sharply pointed
steeples, dramatic heights, and distinctively shaped buildings. In the United States, the skylines of
New York, Chicago, and Seattle show familiar features, such as the Empire State Building, the Sears
Tower, and the Space Needle respectively. Buildings in Charleston, South Carolina, and Savannah,
Georgia are also acclaimed for their quaint style and "Southern Charm." Many of these notable
architectural works of art, referred to generally as historic buildings or historic structures, would
cease to exist without the hard work of preservation societies. These societies, as well as the notable
architecture they preserve, provide educational lessons outside of the traditional classroom for
today's youth. For these reasons, the nation's historic buildings need to be preserved and restored to
their original glory. More state and city governments should follow the federal government's lead
and provide tax incentives to encourage builders to remodel, and thus preserve historic buildings,
preventing the demolition of iconic landmarks. A historic building is any place with historical
context. The word "historic" is defined by Merriam Webster Dictionary as "famous or important in
history; having great and lasting importance; or happening or existing in the past," (Merriam
Webster). Chris Morris of

HVAC technicians got their name because they specialize in the installation and repair of heating,
ventilation and air–conditioning equipment. They are sometimes referred to as HVACR technicians
because most also specialize in the repair of refrigeration equipment. Maybe you are looking for a
career change and hoping to avoid spending your time and money on a four–year degree. Or maybe
you simply want a job that you know you will enjoy. One of the upsides of a career in HVAC is that
you can do it without an expensive degree. Many technicians do choose to have some sort of formal
training though, which generally comes in the form of a post–secondary degree from a technical or
trade school. This option is much more affordable and can typically take somewhere between one to
two years. One of the best factors to look at when choosing a career path is the potential for growth
of the chosen field. The outlook for HVAC is certainly looking up. According to the (BLS), the
employment rate of heating, air conditioning and refrigeration mechanics and installers is projected
to grow 21 percent from 2012 to 2022, which is faster than the average for all other people . That

5.1 Basic Energy Saving Tips LOWER THE SET–POINT ON YOUR THERMOSTAT IN WINTER
Reducing your set–point by 1˚ for an entire winter can yield a 3% savings in energy used to heat
your home. If you keep your thermostat at 68˚, try to turn it down to 67˚ for a week and see if that's
okay. If so, try 66˚ and keep going down until you get to a point where you are no longer
comfortable. Then go back up 1˚ and hold it there.
USE WINDOW TREATMENTS TO CONTROL SOLAR HEAT GAINS IN SUMMER &

Often, we can capture the heat energy provided by the sun in our homes. In the winter, on a sunny
day, it can be extremely beneficial to leave the blinds and curtains open on East, South, and West
facing windows to let the sun provide free heat. On the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

OPERATING FANS
The best thing to remember with fans is that they cool people, they do not cool rooms. The air
movement that fans create pulls heat and moisture off of us and gives us a cooling sensation. They
do not decrease room temperatures.
So please be sure to leave fans off when not in the room. In most cases, it is also not recommended
to leave the fan running on your furnace or air conditioner.
LOWER THE SET–POINT ON YOUR WATER HEATER
If you never run out of hot water, you can probably turn the set–point of your water heater down.
The turn dials are typically located under the top and bottom faceplates. Use a screwdriver to
remove the faceplate and turn it down 5–10˚. We do not recommend setting your temperature below
120˚F due to bacterial growth. Also, have the scale removed from your water heater every couple of
years.
2.2 Water Efficiency Tips Water use is becoming an increasingly important issue. Energy is used to
extract the water from the ground, treat it, pump it to your home, and heat it in your hot water tank.
Energy is also consumed to pump, treat and discharge the water once it leaves your home. The
efficient use of water in your home reduces the power consumed by our community. From

Evaluation Of A Multi Objective Design Optimization...
Review of a multi–objective design optimization strategy for geothermal heat pump that has been
done before is presented. It was noted that several design variables of GHPs, including equipment
profile & building load (such a size, configurations and type of components), thermodynamic
properties (inlet temperature, temperature of evaporator, mass flow rate and etc.) are optimized by a
genetic algorithm (GA), response surface method (RSM), Taguchi method and so on optimizer
implemented in different software. Commonly objectives were extracted. Moreover, it was observed
that the parameters acting as constraints in some works can be as a design variable in another. The
summarizing is presented as tables.
1. Introduction
There has been a development in the world 's population and also an increment in energy needs in
the most recent years. Moreover, due to the small quantify of fossil fuel, as well as in view of its
non–renewable, more consideration must be paid to alternative energy sources, especially in
residential usage, since these accounts for the majority of energy utilization. Besides, the issue of
energy expenditures for heating and cooling is significant at the present time owing to rising in
energy costs and CO2 punishments [1].
A heat pump practically serves to maintain a climate in the building at a desired level. On the whole,
they are utilized for the heating of the air in winter and cooling it during the summer periods.

Geothermal : The Geothermal Of Power
The term geothermal originates from the Greek geo, which means earth, and therme, which means
warm, in this manner geothermal vitality is vitality gotten from the common warmth of the earth.
The world 's temperature differs broadly, and geothermal vitality is usable for an extensive variety of
temperatures from room temperature to well more than 300°F. Geothermal repositories are for the
most part named being either low temperature (150°C). As a rule, the high temperature supplies are
the ones reasonable for, and searched out for, business creation of power. Geophysical techniques
play an important role in geothermal investigation. A geothermal framework is comprised of four
principle components: a warmth source, a store, a liquid, which is the transporter that exchanges the
warmth, and an energize territory. The warmth source is by and large a shallow magmatic body,
usually cooling and often still partly molten. The volume of rocks from which warmth can be
extricated is known as the geothermal reservoir, which contains hot liquids, a rundown term
portraying hot water, vapor and gasses. A geothermal reservoir is generally encompassed by colder
rocks that are using pressurized water associated with the supply. Henceforth water may move from
colder shakes outside the supply (recharge) towards the reservoir, where hot liquids move affected
by buoyancy forces towards a discharge area. Geophysical investigation of geothermal resources

The Disadvantages And Pros And Cons Of Geothermal Energy
Energy is everywhere: you can feel it; you can listen to it; you can step on it. In the 21st century,
scientists and engineers made a huge progress in the development of different types of alternative
energy sources, the most popular of which are solar energy, wind energy, and geothermal energy.
However, people knowing all the advantages of these energy types, in many cases, cannot afford
them because of several problems. Geothermal energy is a developing technology that extracts the
heat from the Earth. In order to increase the prevalence of it, engineers are trying to eliminate the
disadvantages of the technology, which are unavailability of equipment of the whole system, lack of
skilled workers, huge investments needed in the beginning of ... Show more content on

According to Gupta, the advantages of geothermal energy are that it is a renewable and
environment–friendly source, it needs small spaces, it can be extracted anywhere, and it does not
depend on the weather (50). But the part that scientists are concerned more about is the cons of the
geothermal energy, because they does not allow the technology to be widely used all over the world.
To understand the most common problems connected with this technology, I searched more articles
on this topic and found the academic article "Geothermal Energy: Delivering on the Global
Potential" by Paul L. Younger, who analyzed some advantages and disadvantages of the geothermal
systems. According to Younger, although the geothermal energy has higher efficiency than wind or
solar energy systems, it remains the least developed among them because of uncertainties about the
availability of geothermal resources in many regions and high concentration of expenses at early
stages of using the geothermal systems (Young 11748). The author concludes that advances in
drilling technologies and improvements in the management of shallow recourses can lower the
installation cost of geothermal systems

Argumentative Essay On Energy
Energy is not free! Our homes contain many, many systems that need energy. These systems come
with tons of costs that we may now have become used to. Energy has been costing us so much
money that we may not even notice it anymore. "Every year, much of the energy the U.S. consumes
is wasted through transmission, heat loss and inefficient technology –– costing American families"
(U.S. Department of Energy). We have heating systems, cooling systems, water heating systems,
appliances, and machines that all use the energy that costs us so much. It doesn't have to be that
way; if we learned to use our energy sources and their systems more efficiently we could save
ourselves tons of money. We have heating systems that cost us. These heating systems are designed
to heat our entire house. In many homes like mine we use heating systems powered by natural gas.
Other homes may have heating systems that run off of energy sources like wood, oil, sunlight,
electricity, or propane. The most common used sources of energy for heating systems include natural
gas and electricity. Systems that use natural gas or electricity to carry out their jobs include electric
resistance heating, furnaces, and boilers. These systems use the electricity or natural gas we provide
them with every time they are in use. Because all of these systems use energy there is room to save,
we can make sure that we use them only when we need to and are keeping them up to date with the
latest energy saving

The results of this simulation are displayed in Fig. 4, where injected and extracted heat per length
((q) ̇/L) pulses were simulated for 300 months. A charging time of 19 months is needed to charge the
ground by thermal solar energy in order to achieve the desired design temperature. In the figure, this
19–month period begins in June and ends in January. When the system is actively supplying thermal

Also, some savings are achieved by using more efficient cooling technology to reduce grid
purchases. The retrofit therefore reduces the total energy purchased from the grid, but it also
modifies the hourly electrical demand profile. Both pieces of information are required to compute
the savings, because it is assumed that the grid pricing is demand–sensitive, such that the price per
kWh each month is a function of the load factor for that month. Load factor is defined on a monthly
basis as the ratio of the average power consumption for the month divided by the peak hourly power
consumption. The load factor measures the consistency of the demand over time, with high load
factors indicating a more consistent demand that is less costly for the utility to provide. The monthly
per kWh grid price is therefore inversely related to load factor.
To determine how the building retrofit would modify the grid electrical demand, the original
aggregate hourly demand is split, as was previously described, into heating, hot water, cooling, and
baseline plug load profiles. The cooling profile is scaled by 80% to estimate the electrical load for

Microfridge
A
Report on
"Microfridge: The Concept
Introduction:
Robert Bennett, a 31 year old Master in Engineering, decided to quit his job and start a business
with his new concept of the "Microfridge". This was a design that incorporated a refrigerator, freezer
and microwave into a single compact unit. He created a new electronic circuit in which the
refrigerator shut down while the microwave operated and vice–versa.
Analysing the Microfridge:
This 3–in–1 device consumed only 10 amps as opposed to the usual 20 amps while using a
refrigerator and microwave simultaneously. This generated less heat and reduced the risk of fire. It
was a compact device that occupied less space which was ideal for smaller rooms such as student
dorms and motel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Assuming an average of 200 students per college and a conversion rate of 50%, Bennett would need
to target 120 colleges in a year.
Recommendation and Plan of Action:
To increase the customer perceived value of the product, the idea of partnering with Sanyo and using
their brand name to promote the Microfridge could be explored. This would also help to tap in the
market already available to Sanyo. As Sanyo is an older and more recognized brand, it would create
trust and generate a greater brand following and value.
Considering the potential competition the Microfridge may face, a comprehensive promotion
strategy needs to be developed keeping the individual targets in mind. While the eagerness of the
students to adopt the Microfridge can be leveraged to convince the administration to provide
Microfridge as an amenity, various other promotion strategies can be considered. Bennett should
send out sales persons to colleges and arrange meetings with the administration to create awareness
of the Microfridge and its demand amongst the students. As the primary concern of the
administration was fire safety in student dormitories, the fact that 90% of the students violate these
norms by using hot plates needs to be highlighted. Then the fact that the Microfridge would reduce
these risks can be brought home.
A public relations program can be initiated where the Microfridge can be reviewed by the press.

Unisa Building Construction
The UniSA's School of Law is a heritage building with important historical value. It was built in
1940–41 for the administrative headquarters of the South Australian Brewing Company. In 1956,
extensions were added to the original building. The Georgian style of the building, was designed by
the architect F Kenneth Milne, who chose clay brick masonry as the material for the structure
(Adelaide City Heritage 2015). Through the years, the building has been exposed to an earthquake
in 1954 (Sinadinovski, Greenhalgh & Love 2006), wind loads, humidity, temperature variations,
internal loads and other forces. All these factors have an impact on the structure and it has led the
building to several small structural damages. The aim of this paper is to research and study the
structural behavior of clay brick masonry and analyse the damages on the UniSA Law building. This
will lead to an understanding of what factors led to the failures and propose an approach of how it

Scheduling AC Repair in the Winter – Why it's Wise
Although cooler temperatures mean you probably won't use your air conditioner, when the AC is
blowing warm there is good reason to go ahead and schedule repair with a Garland Heating and Air
Conditioning HVAC technician. First, if your AC happens to be a package heat pump and the unit is
not functioning properly, the heat function is likely to also be experiencing problems. A heat pump
utilizes the same components to produce heat as it does to provide air conditioning. A component
called a reversing value reverses the flow of the refrigerant gas to change between the AC and heat.
Therefore, if the AC is not properly working, neither will the heat, and vice versa.

Persuasive Essay On How To Keep It Cool During A Hot Winter
Keeping it Cool during a Hot Perth Summer
Without a doubt, if you have lived in Perth during the summer months, you already know how hot,
humid, wet, and uncomfortable the summer season can be. Being able to keep the heat and moisture
out of your home is a matter of prior planning. Here are some great tips on how to keep your home
cool without using lots of electricity.
The Windows
1. Having tall plants or trees that shade the outside of your home helps to keep the heat away from
entering through your windows.
2. Shading your windows from the outside helps to prevent nearly 75 percent of the solar heat from
reaching the windows. This can easily be done with awnings, overhanging eaves, up and down
rolling shutters, bamboo shades, and self–applying reflective film.
3. Whether you have curtains or window blinds, keep them closing during the daylight hours,
especially during the peak heat generating hours of 3 to 6 PM. Light colored curtains are more
effective than darker colored ones. White blinds are effective in reflecting sunlight, and in keeping
solar heat away from the interior rooms cool.
4. Install UV Ray and Sunlight reflective window panes. This not only keeps the humidity and heat
out of your home, it will also reduce your dependence on your air conditioner.
5. Try to keep your windows closed at all times. However, it is totally fine to open your windows, if
you have screen covers, during the evenings if you live in an area that is significantly cooler

Geothermal Energy from the Earth
Geothermal energy
Energy from the Earth What could be more natural or plentiful? The source of geothermal power is
the heat contained inside the Earth; heat so intense that it creates molten magma. There are a few
different types of geothermal energy that can be tapped. "Some geothermal systems are formed
when hot magma near the surface (1,500 to 10,000 meters deep) directly heats groundwater." The
heat generated from these hot spots flows outward toward the surface, manifesting as volcanoes,
geysers, and hot springs . Naturally–occurring hot water and steam can be tapped by energy
conversion technology to generate electricity or to produce hot water for direct use. "Other
geothermal systems are formed even when no magma is nearby as magma heats rocks which in turn
heat deeply–circulating groundwater." In order to maximize the energy gleaned from these so–called
"hot dry rocks," geothermal facilities will often fracture the hot rocks and pump water into and from
them in order to use the heated water to generate electricity.
The concentration of geothermal energy at any given location must be quite high in order to make
heat extraction feasible, and not all geothermal sites are created equally. Regions that have well–
developed geothermal systems are located in geologically active areas. These regions have
continuous, concentrated heat flow to the surface. The western United States has the best geothermal
regions in the country, while Iceland , New Zealand , the Philippines ,

Renewable Resources Disadvantages
Renewable resources are resources that have the ability to be used in infinite amounts because it is
recovered naturally. Renewable resources are important to the survival of the world since it comes
with positive outcomes and there is an infinite amount. An infinite amount of something and being
repreoduced naturally means that it gives individuals something that this world has created for them.
There are many different renewable resources, which include solar power, wind, geothermal energy,
tidal power, and more. The number one renewable resource that has stood out is geothermal energy.
This energy deals with heat and it is being stored naturally from earth itself. This renewable resource
has many advantages and as with everything there also comes disadvantages. It will be shown that
the advantages of this renewable resource benefits earth rather then its disadvantages. Geothermal
energy is a renewable resource whose heat generates energy to be used. Heat and energy go one in
one with each other. Energy is the capability to do something. Energy comes in many different
forms such as mechanical, chemical, nuclear, light, and more. Energy most importantly comes in the
form of having heat energy. This energy is created because energy goes through many different
phases to get its final reason to be used. An example of this is flashlights or lightening in homes.
The uniqueness of geothermal energy is how its final product has come to be, where it comes from,
and why it is so

Air Conditioning Changes
In 1900 there was very little people could do during a hot spell except grumble about the weather or

changed this. With air conditioning has changed this. With air conditioning you can be comfortable
anywhere indoors on even the hottest, stickiest day of the year. You will almost certainly find air

Otherwise people would have to turn their units off and on continually as the temperature become
too cold or hot. A steady temperature–regulating device called thermostat. The thermostat is set at

The air conditioning systems of the future may work by what is known as thermoelectric. A
thermoelectric unit is very small and very quiet. It is made up of tiny "couples," each couple
consisting of a pair of semiconductors and connected in parallel current. These couples produce
cooling at one end and heating at other when direct flows through them. This is called Peatier effect.
When the current is reversed, the cooling and heating effects also reverse. When a way is found to
produce this tiny thermoelectric unit cheaply, they may cool and heat your whole house.

who may have information and facts regarding HVAC. If for instance you head out to see a buddy
and notice that he or she has an extremely good heating and cooling system in the home, just inquire
regarding the service providers that mounted the system. His particular encounter with the providers
will work as a beneficial guide for you.
Another option is to personally check out the workplaces of HVAC companies. As soon as you see
an HVAC area, simply walk in and talk to a representative who will then give you even more facts
into how they operate and the solutions they can provide. Once you have had an interaction with an
agent, you can determine whether the providers are good or not.

Executive Summary:
The purpose of this experiment was to determine the performance values of a Hylton Air and Water
Heat Pump System. The system uses refrigerant 134a and water as the working fluids. The power
input of the system was measured. The rate of heat output and the coefficient of performance are to
be determined. A sketch of the vapor–compression cycle on a pressure–enthalpy diagram is also to
be presented.
In order to perform this analysis the temperatures at the inlet and outlet of the condenser and
evaporator were measured for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The energy balances are to be verified over the condenser and evaporator. The efficiency of the
compressor is to be determined. Lastly, an energy balance of the compressor is to be performed.
Apparatus:
Figure 1 depicts the cycle used in this experiment and its individual control volumes. The system
uses water and refrigerant 134–a as the working fluids. The cycle operates between two different
pressures, the high pressure of the condenser and the low pressure of the evaporator. The condenser
is used to remove sufficient energy from the refrigerant to transform it completely into liquid. The
evaporator is used to vaporize the refrigerant by adding energy supplied by the warm water. The
throttling valve serves the purpose of reducing the pressure of the refrigerant resulting in isenthalpic
expansion. The compressor supplies energy to the refrigerant, and under ideal conditions works in a
quasistatic adiabatic manner.

Figure 2 depicts the Hylton Air and Water Heat Pump Systems used for this experiment. Viewing
Figure 2, the incoming cold water splits into two separate lines. One line heads towards the
evaporator and the other line heads towards the condenser. The flow rate of each line is measured as
seen right after t5 for the condenser and t8 for the evaporator. The water line heading to the
condenser is first routed through the compressor for

Renewable Energy : Geothermal Energy
Geothermal Energy Concern over the end of nonrenewable resources has increasingly grown in the
population over the recent decades. Hydrocarbons, specifically oil and gas, are being depleted
rapidly. According to imeche.org, only 1.3 trillion barrels of attainable oil remain. At the current
rates of consumption, that equivocates to around 2055 when oil should just about be depleted.
(imeche.org, 2014) Recent advances in oilfield technology continue to push back the date of
annihilation of these resources, but eventually there will be some point in time in which our oil and
gas reserves become extinct. At whatever time that happens, society must be prepared to use
alternatives methods to reach our energy demands. Because of this inevitable ... Show more content

His generator was a simple model that was able to power a mere four light bulbs. Nine years later in
1913, the first commercial dry steam geothermal power plant was built in the Valle del Diavolo.
Harnessing Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is the thermal energy stored in the Earth that is 20% due to the formation of the
Earth and 80% due to decaying radioactive materials. This thermal energy radiates off of the rocks
in the core, mantle, and lower crust and takes the form of heat. In fact, "the amount of heat within
10,000 meters of Earth 's surface contains 50,000 times more energy than all the oil and natural gas
resources in the world." The water underneath the crust can reach temperatures of around 200°C.
This heat excites the water molecules trapped beneath the surface and causes them to move faster
and spread farther apart, which is another way of saying that the water is evaporated. There are also
pathways through the rock that allow this superheated steam and sometimes water (geysers) to rise
up from under the crust and escape to the surface. The steam is a source of energy that costs nothing
to find, and the only difficulty is figuring out an efficient method of extracting that energy.
Dry/Flash Steam Power Plants
Modern day dry steam geothermal power plants utilize drilling technology and injection/production
wells in comparison to the older system of using only the steam

Geothermal Energy In today's world, we are stuck in a constant debate about efficient energy usage
and production. Many have gone to alternative fuel sources do to the rising cost of fossil fuels and
the environmental damage caused by the burning of fossil fuels. One option that goes largely
unexplored is geothermal energy. Geothermal energy is not only a much more environmentally–
friendly power source than fossil fuels, but the cost of installation is not significantly more
expensive than the installation of a new "High Efficiency" conventional heating system. The focus
of this inquiry will be upon single–household use, however it will also delve into geothermal energy

After this point you will continue to save the $2617 per year. Based on Jay Egg's professional
calculations, you will save $31,855 over the course of 15 years over installing a new "High
Efficiency" conventional system, and $9,885 without factoring the cost of a new high efficiency
system. Another question homeowners generally ask is: Where do these costs come from? The
majority of the costs of installing a closed loop subsoil geothermal system in your household come
from the cost of drilling the bore holes and running the piping. Costs, which while not factored in to
the above equation, may be reduced due to your specific location (Next to a large body of water,
likely meaning the presence of an aquifer beneath the Earth below your house.) In your home,
depending upon the presence of an aquifer or the ability to place piping into the lake, you may opt
instead to use an open or closed loop system that runs either through the lake in pipes (closed loop)
or into and out of an underground aquifer through two pipes, using free standing water as the heat
exchange medium (open–loop system). The costs of these systems are typically less

Distillation is the main separation method in chemical process industries. This process involves low
thermodynamic efficiency and high energy demand due to the heat that is added in the bottom
reboiler and thrown away in the top condenser. For this reason, to improve energy–efficient
distillation systems, heat integration concept was first proposed by Brugma [1], Wright [2], Petlyuk
et al.[3] and Freshwater [4,5] almost 70 years ago. Nakaiwa et al. [6] has recently discussed these
systems in an excellent review. In another review, Amiya [7] introduced many other heat integration
schemes which have been developed so far in depth.
Heat pump systems can be used to upgrade heat from a lower quality energy source in the condenser
to a higher quality energy source in the reboiler. Heat pump–assisted distillation column was first
introduced in the mid–1970s [8]. Previously, a number of studies on heat pump–assisted distillation
have been reported in the literature. Omideyi et al. [9] developed a quick selection method for vapor
compression (VC) heat pump assisted distillation columns. Fonyo and Mizsey [10] simplified the
method and included vapor recompression as well as absorption heat pump scheme. Kiss et al. [11]
developed selection scheme of energy efficient technologies for binary distillation. Van de bor et al.
[12] presented a quick performance map and made selection simpler and more suitable.
The most popular heat pump systems are the mechanical ones. In these heat pumps,

The Effects Of Air Conditioning On The United States
Is the United States addicted to air conditioning? The use of air conditioning within the United
States is higher than any other country As Badger has noted: "We love our air conditioning in the
U.S. The amenity is more common in American homes – 87 percent of us have either central air or
window units". This has resulted in Americans becoming addicted to air conditioning. Addiction can
be caused from always being around cooled homes, offices and cars. People start to get used to
feeling the cool temperatures instead of the hot weather. Before Americans realize it, living without
air conditioning becomes harder. Europeans do not use as much air conditioning; instead, they
decide to tough it out and deal with the hotter weather. This is important because as the world's
energy is not 100% environmentally friendly, pollution will increase from the higher demand for
energy. As the damage to the environment continues it could get to a point where the damage can be
irreversible. Mainly the damage is being done to the protective ozone layer in the atmosphere. The
ozone layer helps the earth block harmful ultraviolet rays, which can cause temperature rise and skin
cancer to humans. Americans should decrease the use of air conditioning because greener methods
for cooling are possible; the cool culture can be reversed, and adapting building regulations will help
cool buildings differently.

Abstract: Can the Quapaw Tribe Benefit from Renewable Resources? The National Renewable
Energy Laboratory (NREL) finds low potential for wind and photovoltaic energy, with favorable
potential for geothermal. While this is limiting in terms of options which are currently available it is

Types of Renewable Energy Sources
What is renewable energy?
Renewable energy is energy that is capable of being continuously replenished. These sources
include, wind, solar energy, water, geothermal energy, and biomass. It is only renewable energy if
the source cannot be exhausted. Renewable energies are being used to save nonrenewable sources
such as fossil fuels and trees. They are highly preferred by many people, simply because of their
little impact on the environment. Wind Power:
The first and one of the most common sources seen, is wind energy. Windmills have been widely
used in our entire world for hundreds of years now. Back then, windmills were used primarily for
grinding grain and pumping water. It gave farmers a constant power source no matter the time of
year, without having to do anything to keep the actions going. These windmills were effective for
their small–scale purpose, but had no potential to keep up with the high output ones of today. Most
were not taller than a twostory house. The wind turbines are the close relative that we see so often
today. They are more widely used in the western states rather than eastern. Most tower at 100 feet or
more above ground. They are composed of three giant blades attached to a shared center. A blade
acts much like an airplane wing.
When the wind blows, a pocket of low–pressure air forms on the downwind side of the blade. The
lowpressure air pocket then pulls the blade toward it, causing the rotor to turn. This is called

Advantages Of Thermoelectric Cooling
1 .INTRODUCTION
Thermoelectric cooling uses the Peltier effect to create a heat flux between the junctions of two
different types of materials. A Peltier cooler, heater, or thermoelectric heat pump is a solid–state
active heat pump which transfers heat from one side of the device to the other, with consumption of
electrical energy, depending on the direction of the current. Such an instrument is also called a
Peltier device, Peltier heat pump, solid state refrigerator, or thermoelectric cooler (TEC). It can be
used either for heating or for cooling, although in practice the main application is cooling. It can
also be used as a temperature controller that either heats or cools. This technology is far less
commonly applied to refrigeration than vapor–compression refrigeration is the primary advantages
of a Peltier cooler compared to a vapor–compression refrigerator are its lack of moving parts or
circulating liquid, very long life, invulnerability to leaks, small size and flexible shape. Its main
disadvantage is high cost and poor power efficiency. Many researchers and companies are ... Show

My First Day As A Server At Cafe Mac
Shoveling before Winter
I swiped my card at the information desk and walked in optimistic and excited for my first day as a
server at Café Mac. Little did I know how much of my design–OCD my job would trigger. After an
infinite three hours of standing, greeting and serving people I was asked to shovel heaps of ice, and
winter hadn 't even started yet! The last hour of my shift at the café involved me shoveling ice out of
refrigerator deli cases, reeling the ice to the back of the kitchen, using all my might to dump heavy
baskets of ice into the sink and then the best part: running hot water over the ice for over fifteen
minutes to melt the ice. This was the first time I had seen water being used to melt ice. Coming from
a country with a huge water scarcity problem, I could not accept that I had to waste such large
quantities of water on my job. So I did the next best thing I could think of, I talked to my adviser
and checked if there was any way we could carry out this process while wasting lesser amounts of
water and I was shut down with the reply "please do the work you have been assigned". Another
struggle I faced was that when I put the ice into the sink, I noticed that most of the food that fell on
the ice, clogged the sink. This was too cumbersome a job that wasted too much water and something
had to be done about it.
As I have highlighted above, the object I think that has both ethical has well as design related
problems would be that of the salad bar deli cases

Disadvantages Of Geothermal Energy
Introduction
Over the past several years the realization of a limited amount of renewable resources has pushed
for a more environmentally friendly form of utilities. This realization has shifted the mindset of the
consumer to prefer a more green and economical utility free home using sustainable energy sources.
The scientists at Whole Life Energy are analyzing the use of geothermal energy to meet the
requirements of our consumers and environment. This report covers what geothermal energy is,
different types of geothermal energy, and geothermal energy advantages.
What is Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is the routing of liquid filled tubing underneath the Earth's surface to absorb
heat. A small pump is used to circulate the liquid, so the heat can be extracted in the home or
business. "The earth absorbs and stores about half the suns energy. Due to this massive absorption,
the earth maintains a fairly constant temperature of 45–70 degrees Fahrenheit at a depth of 6 feet"
(Rinkesh, 2017). This constant temperature will allow our company to tap into a never–ending
supply of heat production. Depending on the size of facility needing heating will determine the
depth of the tubing required to draw the appropriate energy. The EPA states, "farther below the
surface, the temperature increases at an average rate of approximately 1°F for every 70 feet in
depth" (Renewable Heating and Cooling, 2016). This flexibility allows us the ability to customize
the conditioning

The above diagrams illustrates how easy it is to utilise the key components but to reverse the
process i.e. to pump heat out rather than in, thus becoming an 'air conditioning' unit (more correctly
called a cooling unit).
All the main components remain same with just the flow reversed (via the 4 way reversing valves)
and some additional minor components (e.g. check valves and specific expansion valve).
Simultaneous heating and cooling
The Heat Pump can be designed and configured as a multi mode machine.
 To generate only hot water from ambient air
 To simultaneously generate hot water and cooling energy.
 To generate only cooling for comfort
Hotels and hospitals continuously need air–conditioning, and therefore on a multimode ... Show

Water–to–Water (W–W).
Water–to–Air (W–A).
Water Source (iii. & iv.) can be further subdivided:
a. Closed Loop: this is the most common form of "Ground source" system when buried.
b. Open Loop: much less common than closed loop ground source (e.g. ground Aquifer; open lake,
river or sea).
This sort of unit designation would lead to better description and slightly less confusion. It also
highlights that the key difference between water source heat pumps which work on closed and open
loops in the ground is the temperature they work at rather than the medium itself (which is the same
– water).
3 Based on Motive / generating power input.
Heat pumps are also sometimes designated by the fuel source used to drive the process which is
most usually electricity (>95%), less commonly natural gas and much less commonly LPG.
4. Based on Operating Temperature
For heat pumps generating hot water in their condensers (i.e. Air– or Water– to Water units) another
sub description is the flow temperature capability.
BS EN 14511–2011 "high temperature" heat pumps they are often referred to Very High
Temperature i.e. >65°C.
For heat pumps producing warm air the temperature should not drop below 38°C to prevent risk of

Why is Geothermal Energy Beneficial?
Volcanoes are wondrous formations on the earth. Humans are fascinated by them but are often very
cautious about volcanoes. They see them as explosive, lava spewing mountains often causing natural
disasters. These are just some of the effects of a volcano but plus side to it is that its energy can be
harnessed. Energy that can be used from a volcano is Geothermal Energy. It is a clean, renewable
energy which uses the steam produced from vents and hot springs near volcanoes. In this paper I am
going to prove why Geothermal Energy is good for the environment and the society. Firstly I am
going to discuss what geothermal energy is. Secondly, I will discuss the benefits of geothermal
energy to the environment. Thirdly I am going to show how geothermal energy is beneficial to the
society around its source. Lastly I will compare geothermal energy to other energy sources and show
why geothermal energy is the way to go.
What is Geothermal Energy?
The earth stores thermal energy within itself, this energy is then projected to the surface of the earth.
This is then released through vents that are close to volcanic systems or other tectonically active
areas. These could be steam vents, mud pots and hot springs. The temperatures used to reach up to
100 degrees centigrade. This is the most conventional

Making Preservation Possible For City Skylines

  • 1. Making Preservation Possible For City Skylines Devon O'Geary Mrs. Hinner LNG 341 11 November 2015 Making Preservation Possible City skylines can be easily recognized for their unique architectural features, such as sharply pointed steeples, dramatic heights, and distinctively shaped buildings. In the United States, the skylines of New York, Chicago, and Seattle show familiar features, such as the Empire State Building, the Sears Tower, and the Space Needle respectively. Buildings in Charleston, South Carolina, and Savannah, Georgia are also acclaimed for their quaint style and "Southern Charm." Many of these notable architectural works of art, referred to generally as historic buildings or historic structures, would cease to exist without the hard work of preservation societies. These societies, as well as the notable architecture they preserve, provide educational lessons outside of the traditional classroom for today's youth. For these reasons, the nation's historic buildings need to be preserved and restored to their original glory. More state and city governments should follow the federal government's lead and provide tax incentives to encourage builders to remodel, and thus preserve historic buildings, preventing the demolition of iconic landmarks. A historic building is any place with historical context. The word "historic" is defined by Merriam Webster Dictionary as "famous or important in history; having great and lasting importance; or happening or existing in the past," (Merriam Webster). Behavior of changing the operating conditions effect on the performance is discussed. Keywords– Refrigeration, Thermoacoustics, Performance, Optimization, DeltaEC. ––––––––––  –––––––––– 1 INTRODUCTION T HERMOACOUSTIC refrigeration is from the emerging green technologies that overcomes many of the environmental problems related to the ordinary vapor compression cycles based refrigeration. Thermoacoustic refrigeration has ad–vantages of working with environment friendly inert fluids, simple design and possible quit operation [1]. Optimizing of energy systems is important to provide the world need of enrgy. Thermoacoustic refrigeration system is composed of sim–ple components as shown at fig. (1). The acoustic driver re–ceives a signal with known frequency and power from the function generator and the amplifier respectively, after that it transmits oscillation inside the resonator with the ... They are sometimes referred to as HVACR technicians because most also specialize in the repair of refrigeration equipment. Maybe you are looking for a career change and hoping to avoid spending your time and money on a four–year degree. Or maybe you simply want a job that you know you will enjoy. One of the upsides of a career in HVAC is that you can do it without an expensive degree. Many technicians do choose to have some sort of formal training though, which generally comes in the form of a post–secondary degree from a technical or trade school. This option is much more affordable and can typically take somewhere between one to two years. One of the best factors to look at when choosing a career path is the potential for growth of the chosen field. The outlook for HVAC is certainly looking up. • 7. Solar Environment Essay 5.1 Basic Energy Saving Tips LOWER THE SET–POINT ON YOUR THERMOSTAT IN WINTER Reducing your set–point by 1˚ for an entire winter can yield a 3% savings in energy used to heat your home. If you keep your thermostat at 68˚, try to turn it down to 67˚ for a week and see if that's okay. If so, try 66˚ and keep going down until you get to a point where you are no longer comfortable. Then go back up 1˚ and hold it there. USE WINDOW TREATMENTS TO CONTROL SOLAR HEAT GAINS IN SUMMER & WINTER Often, we can capture the heat energy provided by the sun in our homes. In the winter, on a sunny day, it can be extremely beneficial to leave the blinds and curtains open on East, South, and West facing windows to let the sun provide free heat. On the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, be sure to remove air conditioners from windows in the winter. OPERATING FANS The best thing to remember with fans is that they cool people, they do not cool rooms. The air movement that fans create pulls heat and moisture off of us and gives us a cooling sensation. They do not decrease room temperatures. So please be sure to leave fans off when not in the room. In most cases, it is also not recommended to leave the fan running on your furnace or air conditioner. LOWER THE SET–POINT ON YOUR WATER HEATER If you never run out of hot water, you can probably turn the set–point of your water heater down. The turn dials are typically located under the top and bottom faceplates. Use a screwdriver to remove the faceplate and turn it down 5–10˚. We do not recommend setting your temperature below 120˚F due to bacterial growth. Also, have the scale removed from your water heater every couple of years. 2.2 Water Efficiency Tips Water use is becoming an increasingly important issue. Energy is used to extract the water from the ground, treat it, pump it to your home, and heat it in your hot water tank. Energy is also consumed to pump, treat and discharge the water once it leaves your home. The efficient use of water in your home reduces the power consumed by our community. • 9. Evaluation Of A Multi Objective Design Optimization... Review of a multi–objective design optimization strategy for geothermal heat pump that has been done before is presented. It was noted that several design variables of GHPs, including equipment profile & building load (such a size, configurations and type of components), thermodynamic properties (inlet temperature, temperature of evaporator, mass flow rate and etc.) are optimized by a genetic algorithm (GA), response surface method (RSM), Taguchi method and so on optimizer implemented in different software. Commonly objectives were extracted. Moreover, it was observed that the parameters acting as constraints in some works can be as a design variable in another. The summarizing is presented as tables. 1. Introduction There has been a development in the world 's population and also an increment in energy needs in the most recent years. Moreover, due to the small quantify of fossil fuel, as well as in view of its non–renewable, more consideration must be paid to alternative energy sources, especially in residential usage, since these accounts for the majority of energy utilization. Besides, the issue of energy expenditures for heating and cooling is significant at the present time owing to rising in energy costs and CO2 punishments [1]. A heat pump practically serves to maintain a climate in the building at a desired level. On the whole, they are utilized for the heating of the air in winter and cooling it during the summer periods. The world 's temperature differs broadly, and geothermal vitality is usable for an extensive variety of temperatures from room temperature to well more than 300°F. Geothermal repositories are for the most part named being either low temperature (150°C). As a rule, the high temperature supplies are the ones reasonable for, and searched out for, business creation of power. Geophysical techniques play an important role in geothermal investigation. A geothermal framework is comprised of four principle components: a warmth source, a store, a liquid, which is the transporter that exchanges the warmth, and an energize territory. The warmth source is by and large a shallow magmatic body, usually cooling and often still partly molten. The volume of rocks from which warmth can be extricated is known as the geothermal reservoir, which contains hot liquids, a rundown term portraying hot water, vapor and gasses. A geothermal reservoir is generally encompassed by colder rocks that are using pressurized water associated with the supply. Henceforth water may move from colder shakes outside the supply (recharge) towards the reservoir, where hot liquids move affected by buoyancy forces towards a discharge area. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Gupta, the advantages of geothermal energy are that it is a renewable and environment–friendly source, it needs small spaces, it can be extracted anywhere, and it does not depend on the weather (50). But the part that scientists are concerned more about is the cons of the geothermal energy, because they does not allow the technology to be widely used all over the world. To understand the most common problems connected with this technology, I searched more articles on this topic and found the academic article "Geothermal Energy: Delivering on the Global Potential" by Paul L. Younger, who analyzed some advantages and disadvantages of the geothermal systems. According to Younger, although the geothermal energy has higher efficiency than wind or solar energy systems, it remains the least developed among them because of uncertainties about the availability of geothermal resources in many regions and high concentration of expenses at early stages of using the geothermal systems (Young 11748). The author concludes that advances in drilling technologies and improvements in the management of shallow recourses can lower the installation cost of geothermal systems ... • 19. Argumentative Essay On Energy Energy is not free! Our homes contain many, many systems that need energy. These systems come with tons of costs that we may now have become used to. Energy has been costing us so much money that we may not even notice it anymore. "Every year, much of the energy the U.S. consumes is wasted through transmission, heat loss and inefficient technology –– costing American families" (U.S. Department of Energy). We have heating systems, cooling systems, water heating systems, appliances, and machines that all use the energy that costs us so much. It doesn't have to be that way; if we learned to use our energy sources and their systems more efficiently we could save ourselves tons of money. We have heating systems that cost us. These heating systems are designed to heat our entire house. In many homes like mine we use heating systems powered by natural gas. Other homes may have heating systems that run off of energy sources like wood, oil, sunlight, electricity, or propane. The most common used sources of energy for heating systems include natural gas and electricity. Systems that use natural gas or electricity to carry out their jobs include electric resistance heating, furnaces, and boilers. These systems use the electricity or natural gas we provide them with every time they are in use. Because all of these systems use energy there is room to save, we can make sure that we use them only when we need to and are keeping them up to date with the latest energy saving ... In the figure, this 19–month period begins in June and ends in January. When the system is actively supplying thermal energy to the building, the temperature rises in the summer months to a peak of about 80 C and falls in the winter months to a low of about 67 C. The retrofit therefore reduces the total energy purchased from the grid, but it also modifies the hourly electrical demand profile. Both pieces of information are required to compute the savings, because it is assumed that the grid pricing is demand–sensitive, such that the price per kWh each month is a function of the load factor for that month. Load factor is defined on a monthly basis as the ratio of the average power consumption for the month divided by the peak hourly power consumption. The load factor measures the consistency of the demand over time, with high load factors indicating a more consistent demand that is less costly for the utility to provide. The monthly per kWh grid price is therefore inversely related to load factor. To determine how the building retrofit would modify the grid electrical demand, the original aggregate hourly demand is split, as was previously described, into heating, hot water, cooling, and baseline plug load profiles. The cooling profile is scaled by 80% to estimate the electrical load for the more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Microfridge A Report on "Microfridge: The Concept Introduction: Robert Bennett, a 31 year old Master in Engineering, decided to quit his job and start a business with his new concept of the "Microfridge". This was a design that incorporated a refrigerator, freezer and microwave into a single compact unit. He created a new electronic circuit in which the refrigerator shut down while the microwave operated and vice–versa. Analysing the Microfridge: This 3–in–1 device consumed only 10 amps as opposed to the usual 20 amps while using a refrigerator and microwave simultaneously. This generated less heat and reduced the risk of fire. It was a compact device that occupied less space which was ideal for smaller rooms such as student dorms and motel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Assuming an average of 200 students per college and a conversion rate of 50%, Bennett would need to target 120 colleges in a year. Recommendation and Plan of Action: To increase the customer perceived value of the product, the idea of partnering with Sanyo and using their brand name to promote the Microfridge could be explored. This would also help to tap in the market already available to Sanyo. As Sanyo is an older and more recognized brand, it would create trust and generate a greater brand following and value. Considering the potential competition the Microfridge may face, a comprehensive promotion strategy needs to be developed keeping the individual targets in mind. While the eagerness of the students to adopt the Microfridge can be leveraged to convince the administration to provide Microfridge as an amenity, various other promotion strategies can be considered. Bennett should send out sales persons to colleges and arrange meetings with the administration to create awareness of the Microfridge and its demand amongst the students. As the primary concern of the administration was fire safety in student dormitories, the fact that 90% of the students violate these norms by using hot plates needs to be highlighted. Then the fact that the Microfridge would reduce these risks can be brought home. A public relations program can be initiated where the Microfridge can be reviewed by the press. • 31. Geothermal Energy from the Earth Geothermal energy Energy from the Earth What could be more natural or plentiful? The source of geothermal power is the heat contained inside the Earth; heat so intense that it creates molten magma. There are a few different types of geothermal energy that can be tapped. "Some geothermal systems are formed when hot magma near the surface (1,500 to 10,000 meters deep) directly heats groundwater." The heat generated from these hot spots flows outward toward the surface, manifesting as volcanoes, geysers, and hot springs . Naturally–occurring hot water and steam can be tapped by energy conversion technology to generate electricity or to produce hot water for direct use. "Other geothermal systems are formed even when no magma is nearby as magma heats rocks which in turn heat deeply–circulating groundwater." In order to maximize the energy gleaned from these so–called "hot dry rocks," geothermal facilities will often fracture the hot rocks and pump water into and from them in order to use the heated water to generate electricity. The concentration of geothermal energy at any given location must be quite high in order to make heat extraction feasible, and not all geothermal sites are created equally. Regions that have well– developed geothermal systems are located in geologically active areas. These regions have continuous, concentrated heat flow to the surface. The western United States has the best geothermal regions in the country, while Iceland , New Zealand , the Philippines , ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Harnessing Geothermal Energy Geothermal energy is the thermal energy stored in the Earth that is 20% due to the formation of the Earth and 80% due to decaying radioactive materials. This thermal energy radiates off of the rocks in the core, mantle, and lower crust and takes the form of heat. The water underneath the crust can reach temperatures of around 200°C. This heat excites the water molecules trapped beneath the surface and causes them to move faster and spread farther apart, which is another way of saying that the water is evaporated. There are also pathways through the rock that allow this superheated steam and sometimes water (geysers) to rise up from under the crust and escape to the surface. This process involves low thermodynamic efficiency and high energy demand due to the heat that is added in the bottom reboiler and thrown away in the top condenser. For this reason, to improve energy–efficient distillation systems, heat integration concept was first proposed by Brugma [1], Wright [2], Petlyuk et al.[3] and Freshwater [4,5] almost 70 years ago. Nakaiwa et al. [6] has recently discussed these systems in an excellent review. In another review, Amiya [7] introduced many other heat integration schemes which have been developed so far in depth. Heat pump systems can be used to upgrade heat from a lower quality energy source in the condenser to a higher quality energy source in the reboiler. Heat pump–assisted distillation column was first introduced in the mid–1970s [8]. Previously, a number of studies on heat pump–assisted distillation have been reported in the literature. • 53. The Effects Of Air Conditioning On The United States Is the United States addicted to air conditioning? The use of air conditioning within the United States is higher than any other country As Badger has noted: "We love our air conditioning in the U.S. The amenity is more common in American homes – 87 percent of us have either central air or window units". This has resulted in Americans becoming addicted to air conditioning. Addiction can be caused from always being around cooled homes, offices and cars. People start to get used to feeling the cool temperatures instead of the hot weather. Before Americans realize it, living without air conditioning becomes harder. Europeans do not use as much air conditioning; instead, they decide to tough it out and deal with the hotter weather. This is important because as the world's energy is not 100% environmentally friendly, pollution will increase from the higher demand for energy. As the damage to the environment continues it could get to a point where the damage can be irreversible. Mainly the damage is being done to the protective ozone layer in the atmosphere. The ozone layer helps the earth block harmful ultraviolet rays, which can cause temperature rise and skin cancer to humans. • 67. Renewable Energy : Different Types Of Renewable Energy... Types of Renewable Energy Sources What is renewable energy? Renewable energy is energy that is capable of being continuously replenished. These sources include, wind, solar energy, water, geothermal energy, and biomass. It is only renewable energy if the source cannot be exhausted. Renewable energies are being used to save nonrenewable sources such as fossil fuels and trees. They are highly preferred by many people, simply because of their little impact on the environment. Wind Power: The first and one of the most common sources seen, is wind energy. Windmills have been widely used in our entire world for hundreds of years now. Back then, windmills were used primarily for grinding grain and pumping water. It gave farmers a constant power source no matter the time of year, without having to do anything to keep the actions going. These windmills were effective for their small–scale purpose, but had no potential to keep up with the high output ones of today. Most were not taller than a twostory house. The wind turbines are the close relative that we see so often today. They are more widely used in the western states rather than eastern. Most tower at 100 feet or more above ground. They are composed of three giant blades attached to a shared center. A blade acts much like an airplane wing. When the wind blows, a pocket of low–pressure air forms on the downwind side of the blade. The lowpressure air pocket then pulls the blade toward it, causing the rotor to turn. This is called ... A Peltier cooler, heater, or thermoelectric heat pump is a solid–state active heat pump which transfers heat from one side of the device to the other, with consumption of electrical energy, depending on the direction of the current. Such an instrument is also called a Peltier device, Peltier heat pump, solid state refrigerator, or thermoelectric cooler (TEC). It can be used either for heating or for cooling, although in practice the main application is cooling. It can also be used as a temperature controller that either heats or cools. This technology is far less commonly applied to refrigeration than vapor–compression refrigeration is the primary advantages of a Peltier cooler compared to a vapor–compression refrigerator are its lack of moving parts or circulating liquid, very long life, invulnerability to leaks, small size and flexible shape. Its main disadvantage is high cost and poor power efficiency. Many researchers and companies are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Little did I know how much of my design–OCD my job would trigger. After an infinite three hours of standing, greeting and serving people I was asked to shovel heaps of ice, and winter hadn 't even started yet! The last hour of my shift at the café involved me shoveling ice out of refrigerator deli cases, reeling the ice to the back of the kitchen, using all my might to dump heavy baskets of ice into the sink and then the best part: running hot water over the ice for over fifteen minutes to melt the ice. This was the first time I had seen water being used to melt ice. Coming from a country with a huge water scarcity problem, I could not accept that I had to waste such large quantities of water on my job. So I did the next best thing I could think of, I talked to my adviser and checked if there was any way we could carry out this process while wasting lesser amounts of water and I was shut down with the reply "please do the work you have been assigned". Another struggle I faced was that when I put the ice into the sink, I noticed that most of the food that fell on the ice, clogged the sink. This was too cumbersome a job that wasted too much water and something had to be done about it. As I have highlighted above, the object I think that has both ethical has well as design related problems would be that of the salad bar deli cases ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. Disadvantages Of Geothermal Energy Introduction Over the past several years the realization of a limited amount of renewable resources has pushed for a more environmentally friendly form of utilities. This realization has shifted the mindset of the consumer to prefer a more green and economical utility free home using sustainable energy sources. The scientists at Whole Life Energy are analyzing the use of geothermal energy to meet the requirements of our consumers and environment. This report covers what geothermal energy is, different types of geothermal energy, and geothermal energy advantages. What is Geothermal Energy Geothermal energy is the routing of liquid filled tubing underneath the Earth's surface to absorb heat. A small pump is used to circulate the liquid, so the heat can be extracted in the home or business. "The earth absorbs and stores about half the suns energy. Due to this massive absorption, the earth maintains a fairly constant temperature of 45–70 degrees Fahrenheit at a depth of 6 feet" (Rinkesh, 2017). This constant temperature will allow our company to tap into a never–ending supply of heat production. Depending on the size of facility needing heating will determine the depth of the tubing required to draw the appropriate energy. The EPA states, "farther below the surface, the temperature increases at an average rate of approximately 1°F for every 70 feet in depth" (Renewable Heating and Cooling, 2016). This flexibility allows us the ability to customize the conditioning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Heat Pump The above diagrams illustrates how easy it is to utilise the key components but to reverse the process i.e. to pump heat out rather than in, thus becoming an 'air conditioning' unit (more correctly called a cooling unit). All the main components remain same with just the flow reversed (via the 4 way reversing valves) and some additional minor components (e.g. check valves and specific expansion valve). Simultaneous heating and cooling The Heat Pump can be designed and configured as a multi mode machine.  To generate only hot water from ambient air  To simultaneously generate hot water and cooling energy.  To generate only cooling for comfort Hotels and hospitals continuously need air–conditioning, and therefore on a multimode ... Closed Loop: this is the most common form of "Ground source" system when buried. b. Open Loop: much less common than closed loop ground source (e.g. ground Aquifer; open lake, river or sea). This sort of unit designation would lead to better description and slightly less confusion. It also highlights that the key difference between water source heat pumps which work on closed and open loops in the ground is the temperature they work at rather than the medium itself (which is the same – water). 3 Based on Motive / generating power input. Heat pumps are also sometimes designated by the fuel source used to drive the process which is most usually electricity (>95%), less commonly natural gas and much less commonly LPG. 4. Based on Operating Temperature For heat pumps generating hot water in their condensers (i.e. Air– or Water– to Water units) another sub description is the flow temperature capability. • 79. Why Geothermal Energy Is Good For The Environment And The... Why is Geothermal Energy Beneficial? Com 217: Science Writing and Presentation Purdue University November 3, 2014 Why is Geothermal Energy Beneficial? Volcanoes are wondrous formations on the earth. Humans are fascinated by them but are often very cautious about volcanoes. They see them as explosive, lava spewing mountains often causing natural disasters. These are just some of the effects of a volcano but plus side to it is that its energy can be harnessed. Energy that can be used from a volcano is Geothermal Energy. It is a clean, renewable energy which uses the steam produced from vents and hot springs near volcanoes. In this paper I am going to prove why Geothermal Energy is good for the environment and the society. Firstly I am going to discuss what geothermal energy is. Secondly, I will discuss the benefits of geothermal energy to the environment. Thirdly I am going to show how geothermal energy is beneficial to the society around its source. Lastly I will compare geothermal energy to other energy sources and show why geothermal energy is the way to go. What is Geothermal Energy? The earth stores thermal energy within itself, this energy is then projected to the surface of the earth. This is then released through vents that are close to volcanic systems or other tectonically active areas. These could be steam vents, mud pots and hot springs. The temperatures used to reach up to 100 degrees centigrade. This is the most conventional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
