2. THE POSITION – PRODUCT LINE PURCHASING
Job Scope Overview
The Product Line Purchasing – Automotive will be responsible for actively assisting in winning new business by
meeting RFQ timeline and target costs. Will reduce total costs of new product development and improve
productivity on mature product activities by identifying and implementing cost reduction activities related to the
Product Line. This position will also ensure that the selection and development of new suppliers is in alignment with
regional and global strategic Purchasing initiatives.
Key Relationships
This position reports directly to the Director of Purchasing.
Major Responsibilities
Responsibility for representing and integrating Purchasing into New Product Development.
Assist New Product Development team in developing detailed project plans including technical, cost, and schedule
performance.
Lead efforts related to faster introduction of product to market, cost reduction, supply base rationalization,
improvement in the cost of quality, and cycle-time reduction.
Act as technical resource on re-sourcing or value engineering.
Supports the development and implement strategies that ensure that suppliers:
o Meet or exceed established quality criteria
o Deliver product “on-time”
o Achieve product line cost-targets
o Are globally competitive
Resolves open issues (internal and external) that could adversely impact the company’s ability to provide product to
our customers.
Aids in the development and implementation of budgets.
Assists in with recommendations related to new suppliers and technologies.
Assists with negotiation of Master Agreements, Project Agreements, Logistics Agreements and related
documentation in order to protect the company’s rights and legal interests.
Key participant to ensure preferred suppliers are involved in New Product Development.
Assists Purchasing management in strategic planning and project management.
Utilizes SAP to support reporting.
Candidate Specifications:
Education and Ideal Experience
BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent related curriculum.
Experienced in world class manufacturing, engineering, and/or project management.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Experienced in working with and leading cross-functional teams.
Outstanding leadership skills.
Familiarity with concurrent engineering and understanding of supply chain management.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and use of office equipment.
Minimal travel may be required.

Compensation
The total compensation package will be based on the experience of the qualified candidate.
