3. Video Research:
My video research was based on the parody genre, as my video is a
parody.
I researched into two music videos of which are of the parody genre
which are, ‘Who Let the dogs out’ Baha Men and‘Like a surgeon’ Weird
al yankovic.
The conventions of a parody video are:
-It has to reflect the original video.
-It has to be obviously funny.
-The artist don’t take themselves seriously
-Mise en scene is used to create humour
-The videos include narrative.
-Representations of different groups tend to be stereotyped.
-The videos are edited with an average shot length that makes it pacey
and exciting.
4. Below are some pictures of my storyboard and my
shooting schedule, I think that both of these were
done quite well as we stuck to them whilst filming
keeping on track and not changing the film. Another
good thing was our team work in order to follow the
shooting schedule we had to change plans and used
up our free time in order to film it all in 3 days as our
camera work was not great. One thing we didn’t do
very good though would be, taking our time on our
storyboard and used more detail in some of the
drawings.
5. Our video production we personally thought
went exactly to plan and turnt out to be how we
wanted it so we are pleased with it, one thing
we could have improved on the music video
would have been our editing due to not being
the best on adobe Photoshop we struggled. One
thing I think we did well was using the two
different environments which is also used in
the film of the real music video rocky 3. Also I
think our use of mise en scene with the
locations, and clothes used which was effective
of our colour in the chess match.
6. Video audience research
For are video audience research we questionaired 25
people on how they watch music video’s, what music
video’s do they watch, do they parody’s if so name your
favourite ex. We done this in order to obtain a ideal
target audience of what age / gender to aim the music
video at. As you can see below via following the link, I
created a ……..which In size order represents what
people’s responses were to the questionnaire. And also
the questionnaire itself.
7.
8. For our CD research we looked at CD album covers
in order to identify the stereotypical parody
conventions. We noticed that almost all parody CD
album covers have something on them that’s
relates to the song. Therefore we related our album
covers to the music video. Also another convention
would be large fonts and bright colour’s as well as a
song list on the back of the album therefore we also
used these and followed the conventions.
9. CD Cover Analysis
What worked:
The chess piece compliments the video which includes a chess game.
The cat’s eye has been edited in post-production to make it stand out.
The use of a cat to connote a tiger links to the parody genre.
The orange and black colours connotes the tiger.
The production company small print makes the text authentic.
The Advisory sticker connotes bad language and has the “cool factor” to
attract a teen audience
10. CD Cover Analysis
What could be improved:
-One thing I think I could have improved on would be
making it look more professional by adding more
information on the back of the cover.
-it says Scott Brothers which is confusing as it’s by survivor
-Lastly the front of the Cd album cover does not match
with the back of it, which could be misleading.
11. Audience Response
For my audience research I made a questionnaire
which I then gave to 30 people, to receive
feedback in order to determine my stereotypical
audience member which would be interested and
enjoy my music video. From creating a audience
questionnaire I received all of my feedback and
then placed my results into a Wordle. Below is my
questionnaire which contains the asked
questionnaire and my Wordle which works in a
way that the larger the words the more popular.

13. Magazine advert research
For my magazine cover research I did a railing analysis on
N.M.E magazine advert because I needed a rough idea of
what my magazine cover should look like therefore I used
the NME basic template. We also analysed 3 different
magazine covers and identified the conventions which are
the following
-They usually had a picture of the album on it
-Provide lots of information
-Easily linked to the band through the use of font/colours
-Made use of social networking links
14. There is a picture of my
album cover on the
You can clearly see the advert to link it to the
title and the fact it is out album and the video and
also so that the audience
now. The ‘OUT NOW’ can recognise it on
adds a sense of urgency amazon if purchased
to go and purchase it. online
My magazine
advert also links
to social
networking. The
uses and
gratification
theory suggest
the audience
It provides a lot of would use this
information which links advert to socially
to the uses and interact with the
gratification theory. It band but also to
links to the gratification follow them
The advert promotes the tours. Bands will make
theory because people whilst they are on
more money from tours then album sales. Including
use the media to gain this on my advert shows an awareness of the pop the go
information music industry. It also gives the audience more
information then the album release so they can get
more from the band.
