3. What is Emotional
Intelligence [EI]?
As defined in the EQi 2.0 Model,
EI comprises emotional and social
skills that collectively establish how
well we:
•Perceive and express ourselves
•Develop and maintain social
relationships
•Cope with challenges
•Use emotional information in an
effective and meaningful way
Emotional intelligence (EI) as
defined and applied in the
Emotional Quotient Inventory
(EQ-i 2.0) “reflects one’s overall
well-being and ability to succeed in
life.”
What does the EQ-i 2.0 model
look like?

and blind spots: Assessment
completed on-line usually in less than
20 minutes, may take 30 or more
minutes,
• A predictable way to measures
current level of emotional and social
functioning: receive feedback on
your results from a Certified EQi 2.0
Administrator

6. EQ-i2.0
Total EQ -
Perspectives
• EI is about success in coping with
environmental demands
• A snapshot of present overall emotional
well-being, not mental health/illness
• Made up of 5 general areas – “realms”
• 5 composite scales break into 15
subsections or subscales
• Scores for 50% of population between
90-110
• 25% scores below 90 / 25% above 110
• Average EQi 2.0 score = 100
• Standard deviation [SD] 15 | 95% +/- two
SDs
• Analogy: Score > 130 = “Tiger Woods”
until . . . .
• BOTTOM LINE – Don’t worry about
numbers – talk to a qualified test
administrator!

7. EQ-I 2.0 Composite Scales and
Subscales - Perspectives
•Provide more specific and
detailed data than Total EI
•Analysis of Composite Scales
assists in identifying general
areas of strength and weakness
•A high/low Composite can
mask high/low scores on the
Subscales
•Like the Total EI number, the
Composite Scales number is
not overemphasized – the
Subscale numbers provide
more rich data
