We offer a range of Leadership and Management, Coaching and Mentoring, Careers and
Advice and Guidance, Education and Training, Assessment and Verification, Business
Enterprise and ‘Skills For The Workplace’ programmes and qualifications. We’re proud of
our Qualification Centre. Staff can undertake nationally-recognised, accredited programmes
from the likes of the Institute of Leadership and Management, OCR and Pearson – BTEC
Edexcel. The two companies have been working together for seven years.
Meet the team
Carol Ewels set up Always Consult following a career as a highly
experienced Senior Business Leader. This included more than 20 years’
service with Barclays Bank PLC, working in a variety of management and
leadership roles. Her many skills include coaching and developing
individuals to achieve their full potential. Carol is passionate about
people development and takes professional pride in attaining the
highest possible standards. Carol is a qualified Assessor in the Advice and
Guidance, Customer Service, Business Administration, Management and
Coaching sectors. Carol is the Head of the Qualification Centre and
maintains overall responsibility for Assessment and Quality Assurance.
Sheila Henshall is a highly-experienced Business Advisor who is
SFEDI accredited. She set up her own business after many years
delivering external projects for Harper Adams University. Sheila
specialises in social enterprise and business start-ups. She is a trained
NLP practitioner and also a qualified Assessor in Advice and Guidance.
Experienced in Training and Coaching, Customer Service enhancements,
business performance improvements, target growth and management
skills. Sheila enjoys coaching and developing individuals to achieve their
full potential and reaches the highest possible standards in her work.
Adrian Pitt has worked with children, young people and adults for
over 20 years. His specialism is supporting those people not in
education, employment or training to overcome their barriers. As an
experienced practitioner, Manager and trainer for the Connexions
Information, Advice and Guidance service, Adrian took his passion for
supporting staff in the sector and set up his own company, Develop-
meant Training Consultants, in October 2009. He has also managed a
Grade “A” awarded NVQ Centre. Adrian brings his knowledge and
experience of Assessing and Internal Quality Assurance to us.

Below is a list of the qualifications and accredited programmes we offer. It’s by no means
exhaustive. If your organisation has training needs that don’t feature below, please contact
us. We have a team of Associates, from various backgrounds and industry sectors, plus
partner organisations we’d be happy to put you in touch with. We can design our delivery
“bespoke” to your requirements.

Level 3 Certificate in Advice
and Guidance
Level 4 Diploma in Advice
and Guidance
This qualification has been designed to reflect the work of
individuals who undertake activities at Level 3, working
directly with clients, disseminating information and advice.
Individuals will be working with information that is often
interpreted by others, usually within some clear guidelines.
To achieve the Level 3 Certificate in Advice and Guidance,
learners must achieve 12 credits from the Mandatory units
and a minimum of 9 credits from the Optional units available
on the Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF).
This qualification supports the recognised need for individuals
and employers/tutors to be responsible for gaining the skills
required to meet ever-changing objectives. This will, in turn,
lead to improvements in efficiency and effectiveness
throughout the organisation and with clients. Experienced
individuals who work directly with people disseminating
information, advice, guidance and formal advocacy should
consider the Level 4. Candidates may also have managerial or
training responsibilities, are creators of information, advice
and guidance within the service or practice – either
disseminating information themselves, or through their
organisation in the form of publications – and are dynamic in
their dealings with external organisations.
To achieve the Level 4 Diploma in Advice and Guidance,
learners must achieve 17 credits from the Mandatory units
and a minimum of 20 credits from the Optional units available
on the QCF. These qualifications are not specific to
CAREERS staff.

Level 4 Diploma in Career
Information and Advice
Level 6 Diploma in Career
Guidance and Development
This qualification aims to provide accredited professional
development opportunities for those currently working in the
career guidance sector and to encourage progression within
the industry.
The qualification has a core of Mandatory units which will be
applicable to all staff and a wide range of Optional units to
allow specialisation as appropriate.
This qualification usually forms a progression route for those
wanting to move on to the Level 6 Diploma in Career
Guidance and Development or other appropriate Higher
Education qualifications.
Our “flagship” Careers qualification with OCR, which can be
delivered in a number of ways. Careers staff with an existing
Level 4 qualification i.e. Level 4 Advice and Guidance (old
standards), Level 4 LDSS, can undertake three Mandatory
Units from the Level 6. Completion of these Units, prior to
May 2014, offers conditional access to the new CPA Register.
Level 4 qualified Advice and Guidance staff (old standards) or
Level 4 LDSS staff can undertake all 7 Mandatory OCR Units
with us, plus a series of Optional Units and achieve the FULL
Level 6 Diploma. We acknowledge prior achievement,
experience and competence and, therefore, do not “start
from scratch” with existing Level 4 qualified staff.
We can deliver the full Level 6 Diploma to staff who are new
to the service, but have extensive advice and guidance
experience in previous roles.
A “Skills Scan” is undertaken before staff embark on ANY of
our qualifications to ensure they’re on the right level of
qualification that is “fit for purpose”.
“Careers Theory Needn’t
Be Dreary!”
1 day workshop
Has your staff team’s eagerness for Egan gone down the
tubes?! Does their head hurt with Hertzberg?! Do they need a
Maslow memory jog?! Can they recall how super Super’s
theory is?! Help is at hand! Our “Careers Theory Training
Package” consists of a fun one-day workshop covering the
major theories of guidance, motivation and change. Staff may
wish to sign up as a “refresher” and/or have this CPD
opportunity accredited. In which case, they would undertake
an assignment and a Professional Discussion, endorsed by
OCR.

1 day workshop for IAG staff
Are staff really considering LMI during their interventions?
We don’t want to quash clients’ aspirations; however, how
realistic are their goals if the local labour market says “NO!”
Our one-day workshop offers staff the opportunity to think
about their research skills, drill down into what’s happening
locally, nationally and in Europe, the resources available, can
they be more proactive? How they incorporate LMI into their
interventions and get clients to see the “bigger picture. An
insightful day!
“How To Sell Your Service”
1 day workshop for IAG staff
What’s it like being an Adviser in the 21
st
Century? There’s
more to the CEIAG sector now than ever before. Gone are the
days when it’s “just” Information, Advice and Guidance. Staff
need additional skills and mind-sets need to be changed. This
one-day course allows staff the opportunity to think about
what it means to be “corporate”, to consider the impact of
their work, value themselves, market themselves, consider
the return on investment, change management, “put a price”
to what they do, while still embracing and being passionate
about their work.
“How To Say “No!” without
Feeling Guilty”
1 day workshop
It’s our Assertiveness course. Many staff feel backed into
corners when approached by colleagues or agencies
bombarding them with requests. They just want to “help”.
However, is it to the detriment of their own work? Are they
crossing boundaries and taking on projects that are outside
their remit. This one-day course looks at influencing and
negotiating skills and how to say “No!” (in a diplomatic way,
of course!). The programme equips staff with the confidence
to be assertive, without being arrogant and effective
communication skills that can be used to maintain positive
working relationships.
“Group Work Skills”
1 day workshop
Many staff are fearful of working with groups. Their BIGGEST
fear is, “What if I lose control?” Our one-day session
investigates: preparation and planning, contracting with the
group, learning styles, group formation, group dynamics, the
“roles” people play, observing challenging behaviour, “The
Drama Triangle”, Anti-discriminatory work, has learning taken
place?
“TAQA” qualifications,
Education and Training
(new PTLLS, CTLLS, DTLLS)
Do you assess learning in the classroom and/or in a work
environment? The TAQA is the new name for the A1
Assessor’s Award. We offer various options under the TAQA
Assessor’s suite of qualifications at Level 3. Plus, at Level 4,
we have the Internal Quality Assurance programmes for those
involved in the Internal Verification process. Ask us about the

“Professional Practice
Observations”
It often helps staff AND their Managers to receive feedback
from an external agency around professional practice. We’ve
identified this. Organisations have really benefitted from a
“different point of view” and our constructive feedback. This
process has supported the Appraisal/Performance Review
system, highlighting to staff, Managers and Learning and
Development teams areas of strength within the organisation
and areas for development.
“Presentation Skills”
“Train The Trainer”
Does PowerPoint petrify your staff? Does the thought of
standing up in school assembly take them back to their
younger days? Are they tight-lipped rather than well-
equipped when liaising with external agencies? Our one-day
“Presentation Skills” course relies on staff having to “bite the
bullet”. We slowly, but surely, get them to “face the fear –
and do it anyway!” Presenting to their colleagues in short,
sharp bursts to begin with and then a lengthier well-planned
presentation before they leave. No more knocking knees
when we’ve finished with them!
“Leadership and Management”
Institute of Leadership and
Management qualifications
(ILM)
We pride ourselves on our flexibility when it comes to our
Leadership & Management programmes. We deliver in-
house or at our offices at Upton Magna SY4 4TT. We also
offer courses remotely on a 1-2-1 basis if required.
Level 2 Leadership & Team Skills is ideal for practising team
leaders or aspiring team leaders, helping them become more
effective and confident in their role. For aspiring team leaders
this qualification helps people make the transition from
working in a team to leading a team.
Our Level 3 Leadership and Management programmes offer
a flexible approach. Staff can undertake the full qualification,
or Units towards (accredited), or we can offer Units from the
qualification as non-accredited CPD opportunities. There are
a whole host of themes under the Leadership and
Management umbrella for you to consider. Find out more

The Level 4 Leadership and Management Certificate is
designed for new and aspiring middle managers. This
qualification helps learners to really get to grips with their
role, gain comprehensive business knowledge and develop
the technical skills they need to lead effectively at this level.

role? You may have senior staff who would benefit from a
qualification whereby they can support “newbies” or less-
experienced colleagues? Our ILM Level 3 qualifications are

Coaching and Mentoring.
“Customer Service”
Do you want your organisation to stand head and shoulders
above the rest? We offer customer service training as stand
alone “open courses” or as a nationally recognised
qualification. A happy, satisfied customer is likely to return
and tell others about the good experiences they had when
dealing with your company.
The OCR Level 2 Customer Service is for learners who
undertake a customer service role and recognises that
employment in the customer service sector involves a diverse
range of functions.
We also offer the ILM Level 2 unit on “Meeting Customer
Needs” which goes towards the Award or Certificate in the
Leadership and Team Skills qualification.
Our flexibility enables us to offer bespoke training to your
company covering many aspects of what good customer
service looks like, without the extra work required to gain a
qualification.
“Work Ready, Get Steady – GO!”
Innovative and interactive pre-16 and post-16 programmes of
delivery to encourage youngsters to reflect on the skills,
attitudes and behaviours required to function successfully
and achieve in the workplace. Not just another CV-writing
workshop! This is a programme that inspires young people
making the transition into Further Education, Training or
Employment, that we can bespoke to meet the needs of
those we’re delivering to. Most important, we offer an
accredited OCR Level 1 Award in Customer Service or a
module(s) from the Edexcel/Pearson “Skilled For Life”
programme that employers will recognise and value.

Qualification/Training Programme Details/Outcomes
“Starting Up in Business”
Our Business Enterprise And Nurturing programme (B.E.A.N.)
for short, equips people with the skills and knowledge to start
up in business.
The course contains information on cash flow, business
planning, marketing and sales, social media, Inland Revenue
requirements, legals etc.
The course can be run as an ILM level 2 Award in
Understanding Enterprise or an ILM level 3 Award or
certificate in Enterprise & Entrepreneurship.
We can also run the course as an ILM 2-day Development
Programme for those people who want a certificate but don’t
want to do the specific set assignments.
“Assessment Tools”
The Rickter Scale
The Rickter Scale® is a unique motivational, multi-sensory
assessment and action planning process, designed specifically
to measure soft outcomes and distance travelled.
The Rickter Scale® itself is an A4 size hand-held board with
ten headings down the left hand side and a magnetic slider
for each heading. This slider can be moved along a scale of 0
to 10, enabling the user to scale how they feel about each
topic.
The board engages the user, removing the focus of the
session from the interviewer which helps build rapport more
quickly. The process is very empowering, encouraging
individuals to see the 'bigger picture' and realise how
different aspects of their life impact on each other. Through
further dialogue with the interviewer, the individual can
explore possibilities, make informed choices, take
responsibility for their own goals and set a realistic action
plan.
The Rickter Company Ltd has also designed an “Appraisal
Board” for use by Managers, Coaches and Mentors to help
develop leadership skills and motivate colleagues to engage in
their own learning, reflection and professional development.

We’re proud of our Qualification Centre. Staff can undertake nationally-recognised, accredited programmes from the likes of the Institute of Leadership and Management, OCR and Pearson – BTEC Edexcel. The two companies have been working together for seven years. Meet the team Carol Ewels set up Always Consult following a career as a highly experienced Senior Business Leader. This included more than 20 years’ service with Barclays Bank PLC, working in a variety of management and leadership roles. Her many skills include coaching and developing individuals to achieve their full potential. Carol is passionate about people development and takes professional pride in attaining the highest possible standards. Carol is a qualified Assessor in the Advice and Guidance, Customer Service, Business Administration, Management and Coaching sectors. Carol is the Head of the Qualification Centre and maintains overall responsibility for Assessment and Quality Assurance. Sheila Henshall is a highly-experienced Business Advisor who is SFEDI accredited. She set up her own business after many years delivering external projects for Harper Adams University. Sheila specialises in social enterprise and business start-ups. She is a trained NLP practitioner and also a qualified Assessor in Advice and Guidance. Experienced in Training and Coaching, Customer Service enhancements, business performance improvements, target growth and management skills. Sheila enjoys coaching and developing individuals to achieve their full potential and reaches the highest possible standards in her work. Adrian Pitt has worked with children, young people and adults for over 20 years. His specialism is supporting those people not in education, employment or training to overcome their barriers. As an experienced practitioner, Manager and trainer for the Connexions Information, Advice and Guidance service, Adrian took his passion for supporting staff in the sector and set up his own company, Develop- meant Training Consultants, in October 2009. He has also managed a Grade “A” awarded NVQ Centre. Adrian brings his knowledge and experience of Assessing and Internal Quality Assurance to us.

Qualification/Training Programme Details/Outcomes Level 3 Certificate in Advice and Guidance Level 4 Diploma in Advice and Guidance This qualification has been designed to reflect the work of individuals who undertake activities at Level 3, working directly with clients, disseminating information and advice. Individuals will be working with information that is often interpreted by others, usually within some clear guidelines. To achieve the Level 3 Certificate in Advice and Guidance, learners must achieve 12 credits from the Mandatory units and a minimum of 9 credits from the Optional units available on the Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF). This qualification supports the recognised need for individuals and employers/tutors to be responsible for gaining the skills required to meet ever-changing objectives. This will, in turn, lead to improvements in efficiency and effectiveness throughout the organisation and with clients. Experienced individuals who work directly with people disseminating information, advice, guidance and formal advocacy should consider the Level 4. Candidates may also have managerial or training responsibilities, are creators of information, advice and guidance within the service or practice – either disseminating information themselves, or through their organisation in the form of publications – and are dynamic in their dealings with external organisations. To achieve the Level 4 Diploma in Advice and Guidance, learners must achieve 17 credits from the Mandatory units and a minimum of 20 credits from the Optional units available on the QCF. These qualifications are not specific to CAREERS staff.

VAT number 106900736 Qualification/Training Programme Details/Outcomes Level 4 Diploma in Career Information and Advice Level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance and Development This qualification aims to provide accredited professional development opportunities for those currently working in the career guidance sector and to encourage progression within the industry. The qualification has a core of Mandatory units which will be applicable to all staff and a wide range of Optional units to allow specialisation as appropriate. This qualification usually forms a progression route for those wanting to move on to the Level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance and Development or other appropriate Higher Education qualifications. Our “flagship” Careers qualification with OCR, which can be delivered in a number of ways. Careers staff with an existing Level 4 qualification i.e. Level 4 Advice and Guidance (old standards), Level 4 LDSS, can undertake three Mandatory Units from the Level 6. Completion of these Units, prior to May 2014, offers conditional access to the new CPA Register. Level 4 qualified Advice and Guidance staff (old standards) or Level 4 LDSS staff can undertake all 7 Mandatory OCR Units with us, plus a series of Optional Units and achieve the FULL Level 6 Diploma. We acknowledge prior achievement, experience and competence and, therefore, do not “start from scratch” with existing Level 4 qualified staff. We can deliver the full Level 6 Diploma to staff who are new to the service, but have extensive advice and guidance experience in previous roles. A “Skills Scan” is undertaken before staff embark on ANY of our qualifications to ensure they’re on the right level of qualification that is “fit for purpose”. “Careers Theory Needn’t Be Dreary!” 1 day workshop Has your staff team’s eagerness for Egan gone down the tubes?! Does their head hurt with Hertzberg?! Do they need a Maslow memory jog?! Can they recall how super Super’s theory is?! Help is at hand! Our “Careers Theory Training Package” consists of a fun one-day workshop covering the major theories of guidance, motivation and change. Staff may wish to sign up as a “refresher” and/or have this CPD opportunity accredited. In which case, they would undertake an assignment and a Professional Discussion, endorsed by OCR.

VAT number 106900736 Qualification/Training Programme Details/Outcomes “Effective Use of LMI” (or, “You Can’t Be a Deep-Sea Diver in Dudley!) 1 day workshop for IAG staff Are staff really considering LMI during their interventions? We don’t want to quash clients’ aspirations; however, how realistic are their goals if the local labour market says “NO!” Our one-day workshop offers staff the opportunity to think about their research skills, drill down into what’s happening locally, nationally and in Europe, the resources available, can they be more proactive? How they incorporate LMI into their interventions and get clients to see the “bigger picture. An insightful day! “How To Sell Your Service” 1 day workshop for IAG staff What’s it like being an Adviser in the 21 st Century? There’s more to the CEIAG sector now than ever before. Gone are the days when it’s “just” Information, Advice and Guidance. Staff need additional skills and mind-sets need to be changed. This one-day course allows staff the opportunity to think about what it means to be “corporate”, to consider the impact of their work, value themselves, market themselves, consider the return on investment, change management, “put a price” to what they do, while still embracing and being passionate about their work. “How To Say “No!” without Feeling Guilty” 1 day workshop It’s our Assertiveness course. Many staff feel backed into corners when approached by colleagues or agencies bombarding them with requests. They just want to “help”. However, is it to the detriment of their own work? Are they crossing boundaries and taking on projects that are outside their remit. This one-day course looks at influencing and negotiating skills and how to say “No!” (in a diplomatic way, of course!). The programme equips staff with the confidence to be assertive, without being arrogant and effective communication skills that can be used to maintain positive working relationships. “Group Work Skills” 1 day workshop Many staff are fearful of working with groups. Their BIGGEST fear is, “What if I lose control?” Our one-day session investigates: preparation and planning, contracting with the group, learning styles, group formation, group dynamics, the “roles” people play, observing challenging behaviour, “The Drama Triangle”, Anti-discriminatory work, has learning taken place? “TAQA” qualifications, Education and Training (new PTLLS, CTLLS, DTLLS) Do you assess learning in the classroom and/or in a work environment? The TAQA is the new name for the A1 Assessor’s Award. We offer various options under the TAQA Assessor’s suite of qualifications at Level 3. VAT number 106900736 Qualification/Training Programme Details/Outcomes “Professional Practice Observations” It often helps staff AND their Managers to receive feedback from an external agency around professional practice. We’ve identified this. Organisations have really benefitted from a “different point of view” and our constructive feedback. This process has supported the Appraisal/Performance Review system, highlighting to staff, Managers and Learning and Development teams areas of strength within the organisation and areas for development. “Presentation Skills” “Train The Trainer” Does PowerPoint petrify your staff? Does the thought of standing up in school assembly take them back to their younger days? Are they tight-lipped rather than well- equipped when liaising with external agencies? Our one-day “Presentation Skills” course relies on staff having to “bite the bullet”. We slowly, but surely, get them to “face the fear – and do it anyway!” Presenting to their colleagues in short, sharp bursts to begin with and then a lengthier well-planned presentation before they leave. No more knocking knees when we’ve finished with them! “Leadership and Management” Institute of Leadership and Management qualifications (ILM) We pride ourselves on our flexibility when it comes to our Leadership & Management programmes. We deliver in- house or at our offices at Upton Magna SY4 4TT. We also offer courses remotely on a 1-2-1 basis if required. Level 2 Leadership & Team Skills is ideal for practising team leaders or aspiring team leaders, helping them become more effective and confident in their role. For aspiring team leaders this qualification helps people make the transition from working in a team to leading a team. Our Level 3 Leadership and Management programmes offer a flexible approach. VAT number 106900736 Qualification/Training Programme Details/Outcomes “Starting Up in Business” Our Business Enterprise And Nurturing programme (B.E.A.N.) for short, equips people with the skills and knowledge to start up in business. The course contains information on cash flow, business planning, marketing and sales, social media, Inland Revenue requirements, legals etc. The course can be run as an ILM level 2 Award in Understanding Enterprise or an ILM level 3 Award or certificate in Enterprise & Entrepreneurship. We can also run the course as an ILM 2-day Development Programme for those people who want a certificate but don’t want to do the specific set assignments. “Assessment Tools” The Rickter Scale The Rickter Scale® is a unique motivational, multi-sensory assessment and action planning process, designed specifically to measure soft outcomes and distance travelled. The Rickter Scale® itself is an A4 size hand-held board with ten headings down the left hand side and a magnetic slider for each heading. This slider can be moved along a scale of 0 to 10, enabling the user to scale how they feel about each topic. The board engages the user, removing the focus of the session from the interviewer which helps build rapport more quickly. The process is very empowering, encouraging individuals to see the 'bigger picture' and realise how different aspects of their life impact on each other. Through further dialogue with the interviewer, the individual can explore possibilities, make informed choices, take responsibility for their own goals and set a realistic action plan. The Rickter Company Ltd has also designed an “Appraisal Board” for use by Managers, Coaches and Mentors to help develop leadership skills and motivate colleagues to engage in their own learning, reflection and professional development.
