4. Let us identify signs for true or false, in
personal communication.
Adam I.M.S. (1991) Ltd
5. This is how we people perceive communication !
We are mostly impressed by GESTURES
We weigh a lot to
Tone and Voice
We perceive the
actual Words less.
Adam I.M.S. (1991) Ltd
6. BUT Human Behavior is not uniform !
Difference of mentality
Difference of Origin
Language
Standards
Points of View
Education
Upbringing
All these and more cause people to behave
different in the same situation.
Adam I.M.S. (1991) Ltd
8. What causes the signs we are looking for ?
All signs of lies are caused by
Inhibitions
All signs of truth come
from conviction
Adam I.M.S. (1991) Ltd
9. How do we recognize and measure the
signs of Inhibition and conviction during a
verbal communication ?
FIRST we have to set the Baseline, because
we remember that
Different people have different
behavior.
Adam I.M.S. (1991) Ltd
10. Setting the baseline is important and a bit tricky!
It calls for observing the talker during truthful
answers to simple questions, note signs that
may seem “bad” to eliminate them later on, and
“good” signs to consider too.
This should only
take a moment
Adam I.M.S. (1991) Ltd
11. Signs of Inhibition
When a person is lying they need to counter it by and
action:
Hiding, masking, diminishing, distancing, covering,
coloring, ridiculing and telling a lot of irrelevant.
Adam I.M.S. (1991) Ltd
12. Signs of conviction
The truth is less easy to detect, conviction should
be based on simplicity, factualism, straight
forwardness, open behavior, no fear no
intimidation.
Adam I.M.S. (1991) Ltd
13. Remember that the ratio for measuring is considered
to be :
55% Body language about 1/2
45% Psycholinguistics about 1/2
Adam I.M.S. (1991) Ltd
14. Body Language # 1 The Head

Eyes: open/close
Covering, Looking out or at the
watch, the white under, narrowing

touching, rubbing, stiffness or to much
movement.

making fists, inverting, hiding or
showing the palm, self hugging or arms
aside, wide or close to body, touching
face, neck, forehead, hair, ears and nose,

waving off gestures
Adam I.M.S. (1991) Ltd
18. Body Language # 4 Body
Mostly your object will be sitting but it is the
same when standing
Pay attention to movement against
stiffness.
Is the object facing the
interrogator or shying ?
Is the object wide open or closed
or huddled.
Is the object still or nervous.
Adam I.M.S. (1991) Ltd
19. Psycholinguistics # 1
Repression vs. Suppression
Adam I.M.S. (1991) Ltd
•If a subject has repressed information
into the subconscious, he will not react
on it, it will be non-existent to us.
•But if the subject is suppressing the
information he will react and inhibitions
will cause the known effects in the PL
mode.
20. Remember the Signs of Inhibition!
When one is lying one needs to oppose it by:
Hiding, masking, diminishing, distancing, covering,
coloring, ridiculing and telling a lot of irrelevant.
Adam I.M.S. (1991) Ltd
21. Adam I.M.S. (1991) Ltd
Psycholinguistics #2 - Hear Reactions
Speech Pattern, intonation and volume, will vary and
change for lies,
or the opposite takes place for truth.
22. Adam I.M.S. (1991) Ltd
“Distancing” is the most popular “It is not me, it just
happened to me” and in many other versions.
“Diminishing” is also common “Nothing really
happened” , or similar.
23. “Ridiculing” and “Coloring” are similar , they make it
a joke or flamboyant event.
Adam I.M.S. (1991) Ltd
“Covering” is a manipulative action of
distraction.
24. Adam I.M.S. (1991) Ltd
And last but not least
Irrelevant stories are meant to create a lot of “noise” in
order to loose the truth in it, like smoke on a
battlefield.
25. Adam I.M.S. (1991) Ltd
Most important !
Never forget to set the Baseline!
Never judge on one instance!
In all test you need at least 3 instances set in different
parts.
