Do not defame one another

  1. 1. Do not defame one another By:Momina Surah Alhujraat Ayah 11
  2. 2. َ‫س‬ُ‫ف‬‫ن‬َ‫أ‬ ْ‫ا‬ ٓ‫و‬ُ‫ز‬ِ‫م‬ۡ‫ل‬َ‫ت‬ َ‫َل‬َ‫و‬ۡۡ ُ‫ُك‬ • In this bit Allah FORBIDS us from defaming each other • Defamation could include swearing, calling people bad nicknames, saying bad things about people (backbiting), negative propaganda against anyone or any group • Examples include calling someone fatty, mallu, retard, or dumb. • Islam forbids use of bad words and we can see it.
  3. 3. Meaning of the Ayah O you who believe! Let not a group scoff at another group, it may be that the latter are better than the former; Nor let (some) women scoff at other women, it may be that the latter are better than the former, Nor defame one another, nor insult one another by nicknames. How bad is it, to insult one's brother after having Faith [i.e. to call your Muslim brother) as: "O sinner", or "O wicked"]. And whosoever does not repent, then such are indeed Zâlimûn (wrong- doers).
  4. 4. What does defaming mean? These are usually words that falsely and negatively reflect on a person’s reputation For example If a person or the news media says or writes something about you that harms your reputation, or that keeps people from meeting you. This is when you have been defamed.
  5. 5. How can you defame another person? There are 2 main ways – ُّ‫ل‬ ٌٍ۬‫ة‬َ‫ز‬َ‫م‬ُ‫ه‬ ِ‫ُل‬‫ڪ‬ِ‫ل‬ ٌ۬‫ل‬ۡ‫ي‬ َ‫و‬ٍ‫ة‬َ‫ز‬َ‫م‬ Woe to every (kind of) scandal-monger and backbiter, ٍ‫ة‬َ‫ز‬َ‫م‬ُّ‫ل‬ Lamz (the root word) means to defame someone by words. ٍ‫ة‬َ‫ز‬َ‫م‬ُ‫ه‬ Hamz (the root word) means to defame someone by action
  6. 6. Getting a friend to stop defaming others • Tell my friend that defaming people is not a good thing. • How will you feel if someone defamed you? • You would feel hurt, it will all be a lie and you will loose your dignity. • It will also be very embarrassing. This could be done be rumours, which is a form of defamation.
  7. 7. If you defame someone then it is most likely that other people will defame you. What comes around goes around. This will only be the punishment on this Earth. the punishment of the hereafter will be much worse.
  8. 8. Is questioning why we should not defame others really of any point. Allah has just commanded us that we shouldn't, we should just listen and do with out question.
