1. Legal and Ethical
Copy Rights is a mechanism for protection of someone’s work, the work which is created by
someone else is their own intellectual property which means that no-one can simply copy your
work and say it’s theirs, they either have to ask for permission to use that persons work which
would more than likely cost a lot of money or if using someone’s work they have to give the
reference so that people know that it’s not that persons work and it belongs to someone else, the
good side of it is that it’s a form of commercial. However when it comes to the intellectual property
you have to protect the work which has a commercial value e.g. website design, photographs,
comments, images, data etc. Legal and Ethical is about protecting yourself and your brand, there are
many laws and regulations rules exist to protect the online society. You can sue someone who uses
(borrows) your intellectual property.
The example of my own intellectual property. I’ve taken a photograph and I’ve edited that photo is
Photoshop using many tools; I have also used my own logo and created an image with a commercial
value. All copy rights reserved. Therefore my work is protected by a law of copy Right and no one
has a right to copy my work, and if so they would have to ask for permission.
Privacy- The Data Protection Act, Make sure that the information are private, comments, images,
emails, subscription, data, phone number, address and D.O.B. Internet privacy involves the right of
personal privacy concerning storing and displaying the information on the internet. The cookie law
2. is a new European privacy legislation which provides commercial privacy compliance tools and
services under the Optanon brand name.
Defamation- is a communication of a false statement which might harm an individual’s reputation,
product, company, government, religion or nation
The spoken defamation called slander means hurting an individual with words, and defamation in
other media might mean printed words or images. You have to be careful what you call people and
how you treat them also be careful what you say or write about person’s personality/character.
Libel, truth is not defence for invading someone else’s privacy.
Child Protection- The law protects the children under the age of 18 in many ways. One of things
which the law protects the underage from are some bad harmful habits such as smoking, you’re not
allowed to buy tobacco under the age of 18 and you’re going to be asked for the proof of age if you
look under the age of 25. Similar rule applies to Energy Drink Company, Children under the age of
16 are not allowed to purchase any product that might possibly harm them, and Energy drinks
contain some ingredients that might be harmful for children such as Taurine, if you drink too much
of them it can damage your liver and your heart, that’s why energy drinks are appropriate for
children under the age of 16.
Ethical (ASA) – ASA stands for Advertising standards authority, products and services. It doesn’t apply to
my entire website but mostly to the products which I’ve created. The law sets principals and ethical
standards; I had to be truthful about my website and products I’ve created otherwise the website could
be taken down.
