3. Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai (1689- 1752).
He was born in 1102 Hijra in a small village called “ Hala
Haveli”.
His father’s name Syed Habib Shah.
The great saint Abdul Latif, who is lovingly called “ Lal Latif”
by his devotees.
Shah Latif was a great poet of Sindh.
He was also a good musician, he inveted ‘Tambooro’.
He is highest spiritual and literary genius of Sindh.
4. Shah Latif led a life of a meditation and contemptation,
shunning worldly attraction, and his way of life was
characterized by self restraints.
He was died in 1165Hijra.
A famous king of Sindh , Ghulam Shah Kalhoro was a devoted
to him that he built a shrine over his grave.
Each year on his death anniversary, a Mela is held at Bhitshah
and where rapturous rendering of his poetry set to music, stirs
the soul of every person present.
5. SHAH JO RISALO
•
Latif’s devotees collected his poetry in written record or collection of
his versus and his collection came to be called “Risalo of Shah Abdul
Latif”.
• Shah jo Risalo means the message of the Shah.
•Nevertheless European scholar like Ernest Trump (who first Risalo
printed) were followed by renowned Sindhi scholar like Mirza Kalich
Beg, Dr. Ghrbaxani and Allama Imdad. The greatest modern poet of
Sindhi, Shaikh Mubarak, Ayaz has translated the works of Shah Latif
into Urdu bringing the Shah’s and his own genius to the notice of a
wider audience of admirers.
6. Kalyan in Sanskrit ‘peace’ that passeth understanding’.
Kalyan is one of the basic melodies and brings peace when
played.
Shah Latif’s poetry is devotional in content and like a great
poet’s creation, is capable of more than one interpretation.
7. Foremost , Omniscient and Supreme is world’s Lord,
Of His own might in existence since aeons old.
Mighty Creator, Merciful, Sustainer, One and Only,
His praises sing, He planned and perfected the universe.
8. Those who in Lord’s peerless oneness believe,
Accept Muhammad’s (PBUH) guidance, with heart and
speech,
Their’s is abode of bliss, for they abide God’s decree
Never misled are they to paths that dubious be.
9. Never misled are the firm and pure in heart,
The knowing ones become one with the only Lord,
For peerless in origin they are.
10. All light, Master made them unique of old,
Nor fear nor sorrow such one scan hold,
For He made them fortunate, in their origin bold.
11. o Seekers severed keep repeating,
There be no other God save Him,
Their souls unite din spiritual traits,
With care they tread the sacred ways,
To seek eternal abode with knowledge rare,
No rest they know nor idle sit,
Their being in non-existence reversed.
