2. OUR TARGET AUDIENCE
We know that the target audience is crucial to the success of any
product, however in the media industry the appeal of a product to the
target audience is even more important. When creating our
documentary, radio trailer and magazine double page spread we shall
always make creative decisions based around there appeal to our
target audience. To find out what does appeal to our target audience
we shall conduct several focus groups, questionnaires etc. We have
already identified who are target audience is and therefore our work
will based around pleasing that particular set of people.
3. STYLE OF DOCUMENTARY
From our research we believe the best style of documentary to please our target
audience would be an expository style of documentary. This is because this style is a
direct way of giving the target audience information whilst keeping them interested in
the documentary. This style of documentary does not require a presenter and instead
uses a hidden narrator. We also feel this will appeal to the target audience as due to
them being young adults they may feel a fun presenter is childish and would make the
documentary seem less professional. This style of documentary also allows use to
strongly give off a particular opinion which is important when talking about a
controversial subject. Our documentary will also be a fast paced documentary as this
will keep the product fresh, entertaining and wont bore the target audience. As the
target audience may grow bored from the same images due to there shorter attention
span (being young adults and teenagers) we will have new clips and videos
throughput the documentary. If we were to repeat footage this would put the target
audience off and therefore we will gather vast amounts of archive and our own footage
to keep the documentary refreshing throughout.
4. STYLE OF MAGAZINE DOUBLE
PAGE SPREAD
Our target audience will also influence our ideas and style of our
double page spread in a listings magazine. As our topic is
violent video games we feel the target audience may be
interested in a magazine in a style of a gaming magazine rather
than a normal TV listing magazine. This includes bright colours,
large background images and powerful text. We feel this will
appeal to our target audience as not only will it make the double
page spread stand out through bright colours etc. it will also
appeal to them as a large majority will have seen gaming
magazines in the past and therefore be interested in reading a
similar style double page spread
5. STYLE OF THE RADIO TRAILER
As with both the documentary and magazine double page spread we feel the
radio trailer should also be designed and styled to suit our target audience.
To make the radio trailer appeal to the target audience we believe the trailer
should include music which the target audience is used to. This may include
dance or hip hop music; most of the target audience will be familiar with this
music due to being young adults. This music is also fast paced and will
make the radio trailer stand out and grab the attention of any audience
member. This makes the radio trailer an effective piece of advertisement as it
will appeal to both the target audience and a larger audience. The radio
trailer will also include some sound effects as like the music this will grab
the attention of any listener and also makes the radio trailer seem
professional. It will also appeal to our target audience as it will reflect the
loud and fast paced products they are interested in. However we will be
careful as we don’t want to use to many sound effects as this will make the
radio trailer seem unprofessional and childish. This will put off the target
audience as they, being young adults, want a trailer which is professional
but will not seem to childish by using loud sound effects.
