3. Project Description
◊ Today I will be talking about a man called
Rube Goldberg. This man was very famous . He
created cartoons and designed inventions
however he did not create the inventions they
were just ideas for other inventors. He was also
a engineer.
4. Birth and death of Rube
Goldberg
Rube Goldberg was born in San Francisco on
July the 4th , 1883.
Rube Goldberg died in New York City on
December 7th , 1970, At the age of 83.
5. Family information
Rube was well known as Rube Goldberg, he
was born Reuben Garret Lucius Goldberg .
Both his parents Max and Hannah Goldberg
were German , Jewish immigrants. Rube was
a middle child , having been the 2nd of the
four Goldberg children.
Rube had an older brother Garret and two
younger siblings, Walter and Lillian.

7. Rubes job life
After graduating from the University of California
Berkeley with a degree in engineering , Rube went
on to work for the city of San Francisco water and
sewers department.
After 6 months Rube shifted gears and left the
sewers department to become an office boy in the
sports department of a San Francisco newspaper.
While there he began to submit drawings and
cartoons to the editor until he was finally published.
Rube soon moved from San Francisco to New York
to work for the Evening Mail drawing daily cartoons.
This led to syndication and a national presence.

A Rube Goldberg machine is a contraption,
invention, device or apparatus that is
deliberately over-engineered to perform a
very simple task in a very complicated
fashion, usually including a chain reaction.
