2. Reuben Garret Lucius ‘’Rube’’ Goldberg was
born July 4 1883 in San Francisco. Died
December 7 1970. He was an American
cartoonist, sculptor, author, engineer and
inventor.

3. Goldberg’s father encouraged Reuben to be a
engineer. He graduated from the university of
California, Berkley in 1904 with a degree of
engineering. He got hired by the city of San Francisco
as an engineer of the water and sewers department.
Six months later he resigned from his positon in the
city to join the San Francisco chronicle where he
became a sports cartoonist.The following year until
he moved to NewYork city in 1907, finding
employment as a cartoonist in the NewYork Evening
Mail. He was the first president of the national
