Single Mom and Going Back to School Essay
Single Mom and Going Back To School
I am in my mid–thirties and going back to school. I would have to say that my children are the primary reason behind this decision. I am their role
model and teacher and I intend to be the best one possible. I want to show my children the endless possibilities of hard honest work. I want to send
them to college and live comfortably. Throughout my personal experience, I have learned that anything is possible even while I am balancing a family,
multi jobs and school. Once I left high school in 1992, I attended the Sawyer School for Business. With class to finish, I found out that I was pregnant
and having problems. Because of my pregnancy problems, I had to leave school. I didn't graduate because I...show more content...
This was the perfect job for me at the time because having a newborn, a six year old, and a twelve year old was a lot of work. It was very
convenient for me to start house cleaning because I chose my hours. I was working two to three hours a day and was still available for my kids.
At this point of my life that I still couldn't go back to school. One day, I decided to apply for a job on the third shift because I needed the extra
money and it would be convenient for my kids and I. Working at Atria in Portsmouth required me to tend to elderly people. The most important
thing to me is caring for the residence. I enjoyed working there so much and it made me think that I could go back to school to become a CNA, or
even become a nurse. During the summer of 2012, I thought, "What am I doing with my life?" I was cleaning houses and taking care of the
elderly. I suddenly realized that my girls were older and my son was in kindergarten; it's the perfect opportunity for me to accomplish my dream.
So, I figured out my schedule so I would have plenty of time for work, school and my two youngest children. Finally, I thought to myself that I can
go to school, get a degree, and maybe take my kids on vacation. Advice from one single mom to another single mom anything is possible if you have
the heart and mind set. First, you need to decide what you want to do for a career. Second, find out where you can get help financially. Third, find a
safe place for your children.

Going Back to College as a Single Mom Essay
Going back to college after you have been out of school for quite a few years, had three children, been married, and divorced is a lot harder than I
ever imagined. It takes hard work, dedication, and missing out on the little things previously taken for granted. I miss taking naps the most. I
believe if you can tough it out through the worst days, you can finish school and provide a better life for your children and yourself. You need a lot
of willpower and a large sense of humor. Set your alarm at least an hour before you really need to get out of the bed. If you set the alarm for an earlier
hour you get to hit the snooze button few extra times. After the third hit, you should have awakened enough to actually rise out of the bed. Fix...show

Start helping the kids to get ready for school. When you start looking for shoes, do not forget places such as the trampoline, under the kitchen
table, in the couch, and on top of the aquarium. This will help speed up the process of getting the kids ready before the bus arrives. Once the bus
does pull up to the driveway send the kids on their way. Remember that standing outside in your pajamas and waving until the bus is out of sight
does not embarrass your children. These actions show them how much you love them no matter what they say. Get yourself ready for the school
day. Warm up your second cup of coffee and take a deep breath. Get a shower and wash your hair, brush teeth, get dressed, put breakfast dishes in
the sink to soak, make sure all your homework is done for today's classes, put books into book bag, and put all of your things into the car. Don't
forget that since you will be gone most of the day, to take care of all of your pets. Feed the fish, parakeets, hamsters, chickens, ducks, turkeys, and
the dogs. Feeding these animals now will save you time later in the day by not having the "You promised to take care of your pets if I would get
them for you", speech. Make sure the stove, faucets, and lights are turned off and the doors are locked. Get into your vehicle and drive off towards
your school in silence because the radio is broken. This will give you ample time to worry if you have everything done and turned off the coffeepot.

Then Esau looked up and saw the women and children. "Who are these with you?" he asked. Jacob answered, "They are the children God has

As a servant of The Lord, I too have been graciously blessed with two children; Christian, age 7 and Angel, age 3, both boy's. I begin my journey
with Colorado Christian University to honor My Lord and make both Him and my children proud of me. At one point in my life, God also blessed me
with a wonderful husband in whom I started a family with. We were married for 6 years and courted a year before our marriage. Unfortunately, my
husband was unfaithful and left me for another woman, leaving me heartbroken and to be a single mother. Both before and after our marriage, we were
both involved in the church and loved the Lord very much, however as things tend to happen, our divorce was one of them. Throughout this, I stayed
strong in my faith and begun a new life with just me and my boy's. Now I live for God and my children with the help and strength that comes from

hospitalized to just having a bad day at school, but all the while, I have been single handedly by their side rather it means putting my own stuff
aside. No matter what has been thrown at me or come my way, it is well worth it and I know God has a purpose for my life. As mentioned before, I
will use all of my experiences to better my life and use my life as a testimony and example to help other's that God puts in my path. I have learned
from all of this that being positive and keeping the faith is what gets me through. My schooling with give me the knowledge I need to continue with

Growing Up With Single Mothers
Growing up with only one single parent is one of the most significant challenges that I have ever had to face. I have not only grown up without a
proper father figure, but the struggles that my mother and family have had to overcome were challenging in itself. Single mothers, especially those that
must provide for more than one child, are hard working individuals. Single mothers always put their family before themselves in order to support their
families. I myself have witnessed the selfless deeds that my own mother has done. She works very hard to make sure that me, and my other two
siblings, are not in need of anything. My mother makes sure that she had the ability to provide for her family no matter the conflict. As for myself, I
have concluded that single mothers do not have to be dependent on someone else, they are capable of many things that break many patriarchal idea and

I have always helped my mother with anything, whether It be overall helping her and even encouraging her, I have managed to overcome the
challenge and, in sort, see no need for a father figure. I always help her in all of the house work and help her with her appointments and paperwork.
When it come to support, I always make sure to encourage her in anything. Although she is an adult, having the support from her children is very
helpful to continue through hard times and prosper. Trust is also one of the biggest steps that I have taken in overcoming the challenge. I trust that
my mother will do all she can to be able to bring her family forward. I have never doubted my mother and have put my full trust and support in
whatever she does. I trusted that she was more than capable in supporting me and allowing her family to prosper in today's society, and she did.
Although there were, and continue to have many obstacle preventing her, she manages to prosper and surpass any

What Does Being A Single Mom Mean To Me Essay
Growing up is scary, life is hard, and nobody tells you how to make tough decisions. If you're lucky enough though you will be blessed with a person in
your life that will never leave your side and will be there to give you a hug at the end of one of those days life puts you on your rear end. Amy Hanger,
my mother, is that person in my life; and that is why she is the person who has influenced my life in so many ways the 18 years I have been alive.
My parents got a divorce at a young age leaving majority of the custody of me and my two sisters to my mom. Being a single mom, making ends

feel better than sharing one of your crazy life decisions and have a smile and warm hug waiting for you at the end of your story. Unconditional
love still confuses me from time to time because I just can't grasp the idea of loving someone or something that much. But, what I do know, is that
my mom has never let a day go by without letting me know that I am loved and meant for big things. I've seen her cry from tears of pride and get
angry when the world isn't fair towards her daughters. Being loved by someone this much makes you feel as if I can take on the world, that I really
am meant for great things, and that no matter what goes wrong you will always be alright because I have a mom that loves me more than anything in the

Unfortunately, what happened to Fatima can happen to anyone, being a parent is not an easy task to do sharing it with a partner let alone being a
single mother with young children, she must have a lot to carry on her shoulders. Single mothers have to face a lot of emotional challenges such as
making big decisions on their own, some prejudice from the society for being a single mother, self–doubt since there is not a partner to share questions
about the kids and of course, there is always concern about money. (Nicole Caccavo Kear, Na emotional survival guide for single moms)

A diet based on processed food just like Fatima and her family's can lead to many diseases like obesity, heart diseases, insulin resistance, etc. They
need to make a change on their diet before it is too late, otherwise in a not so distant future her children can have a disease.
Another reason to replace processed food for real and natural food is that processed food can make people addicted to it because when we eat it, all
the flavors and artificial ingredients releases dopamine and give us a ''rewarding feeling'' that activates the same areas in the brain that some drugs
activate and this can explain why so many people feel a huge need for these foods. (Kris Gunnars, Nine ways that processed foods are harming people)
Many people that can not change their diet at least change theirs habits in order to be healthier, it is common wisdom that going for a walk is good in
so many ways, smoking is bad for the lungs, alcohol abuse lead to diseases, rest is as good for the body as it is for the soul, our body needs at least 8
hours to sleep, etc.
The latter is something that is being neglected more and more by people because who does have time to sleep for 8 hours or more? there are so
many things to be done every day and without noticing, we just do not relax or sleep as

context sends the victim a clear message that she is an intruder in the workplace by reminding her of the historical myth that a woman's place is in

My Life As A Single Mom Essay
After two messy divorces and several miserable relationships, I celebrated getting my head on straight. I loved my life. I loved being a single mom.
I had my children and didn 't want any more kids. Most of all, I didn 't want a relationship with a man ever again. I soaked up yoga, meditation, and
had a spiritual awakening. I 'd finally found that happiness comes from within me.
I 'd professed my new–found joy with my neighbor who said, "Look out. When you 're not searching for love, that 's when it finds you."
About a year later, my neighbor snickered with glee when I told her that 's exactly what had happened and blamed her for jinxing me.
At last, I 'd found myself deep in love with a songwriter whose music had started me on my spiritual path. While David and I lived on opposite sides
of the country, we 'd started corresponding with each other and before we knew it––boom! We 'd fallen in love.
Even though we 'd confessed our love, we both believed in our own dreams.
In his thirties, this happy–go–lucky bachelor had never married and was pursuing his life–long dream of being a songwriter and I had no intention of
interrupting his life. I believed more than ever he 'd make it "big" one day, but he wouldn 't get there with me in tow.
Of course, I didn 't have mapped out plans, but I 'd found happiness and honestly didn 't want another relationship. I had a nagging feeling that since I
'd failed in two marriages, marriage wasn 't

The tales of single mothers who were capable of getting out of welfare created a sense of hope for those single parent who had become dependent on
welfare. They were tales of the capabilities of the state providing a helping hand to those in need. However, with every tale there is the other extremes
of the single mothers who didn't make it out of poverty and still depended on welfare. As it would seem, some of single mothers would have the
adequate support but the rest would have support provided by the state. A support that would contained limitations and impossible requirements.

Single Motherhood Leads To Child Poverty
Single motherhood often leads to child poverty. Each year many children struggle to meet their daily needs, living through poverty and face
inequality from the time they are born. Growing up in a single household highly increases your chances of living a poor lifestyle. Children will
experience higher drop out rates, have difficulty finding employment, engage into teen pregnancy and face various problems as they grow older. Our
society projects a negative image by blaming single mothers for their actions ''In Murray's eyes, the mothers are fully responsible for any children they
bear in an age when contraceptives and abortion are freely available''(McLanahan).
This article is relevant to the class material because poverty and single motherhood

Growing Up With a Single Mother
People all grow up in different places, around different people, under different circumstance and, all of these cause different effects on their lives.
People are who they are today because of the experiences that they faced. Until I was a teenager, it was always just my mom and I. I never met my
"dad", not even from day one. I never was able to get to know him, or see him, but I did have a mom. I faced the odds of becoming the stereotypical
kid with a single parent that went down the wrong path, but I never did. Life caused me to have a single mother that has made me the strong person
that I am today. Watching my mother live from pay check to pay check when I was young was difficult. It was always hard for my mom to keep
up with other parents but, she still somehow managed to get me everything I wanted, and more. Even though I was too young to understand, I
could feel the stress, and the struggles my mom faced every day. She was only 20 years old when I was born and, because of that she had no
choice but to grow up fast. At such a young age, I saw the effects of being a single parent, and the ways it changed my mom. She not only had to be
a young mother but, she had to find a way to replace the void of a father, or a father figure in my life. My mom was strong, independent and
courageous. Growing up watching her live her dreams under all the circumstances she faced, made me want to strive for a better life for myself.
Seeing how hard is was to live and to have enough

Being a single mother of two has given me many responsibilities. From early morning's too late nights. Being a mother has changed my life for the

And as my children get older; to be able to bring them along as well because I feel it is important for everyone including kids to lend a helping hand

The Challenges Faced By Single Mothers
Single mothers are raising households and juggling multiple social roles with limited social support. Being a mom is rewarding and stressful but
raising children without a co–parent or social support network while juggling all of the household responsibilities, the challenge can seem
insurmountable. Studies indicate that single mothers are at a higher socioeconomic disadvantage which correlates with greater stress exposure and
psychosocial risk factors. Being the only financial provider for food and bills is enough stress, much less for one person. A lot of single parents live
by the motto "Robbing Peter to pay Paul" each month to make sure they have enough food, and all the school supplies that their children need. The
psychosocial challenges faced by single mothers are from balancing the accumulation of social roles and raising children while economically
vulnerable.
The everyday struggles of parenting are magnified for single mothers because they are learning how to be the family unit from one person. The single
mother takes on all of the roles that once were shared with a family unit; now the mother is the disciplinarian, the provider, the comforter, etc. The
single mother now has to restructure her thinking and actions to be able to suit the ever–changing needs of her children, alongside the financial
responsibilities of up–keeping the home. To balance these responsibilities while dealing with the weight of the additional roles, and the emotional
effects of all of the

Single Moms: The Stress Of Single Mothers
"I'm a working mother. You try to pay the bills, you try to keep your life going and there's pressure"– Carnie Wilson. This is true for many of the
mothers out there, single or married. It is even more true that all mothers face different types of stress. However, it seems that single mothers can
experience higher degrees of stress than married mothers, with single mothers working hard on a daily basis. According to a study by the American
Sociological Review, researchers found that single mothers can be more stressed than married mothers due to raising a child alone and other economic
situations (Melnick). Through this, the answer can be pretty obvious: single mothers are more stressed than married mothers.
Throughout the years, the percentage...show more content...
A student from Western Michigan University found that children from single–parent homes have a strong parent to child communication system with a
network of community support, and increasing levels of independence (Barajas). Other studies have shown even if single mothers don't have a spouse
to deal with the extra weight, the mother has a community around them to help; and they can join community groups such as church groups and single
parent support groups (Wolf). If not the community, the mother's child can help carry some of the responsibilities. However, sometimes these
community groups aren't available to many single mothers and their kids may be too young to aid their motherВґs problems. Additionally, these
benefits don't outweigh the stresses that were already to put on the single mother's shoulders; and certain situations can leave the mother dwelling on
them instead of receiving the relief that they

One thing in my life that I had to dive into doing was being a single parent. I no longer had just myself to worry about and to take care of; I was going
to have another person to be responsible for. I had a mixture of feelings when I found out I was pregnant. I did not know if his dad was going to be

I was not working at the time, so I had very little money and his father only paid child support when he decided to, or when the courts forced him to

There have been other times that have been challenging in being a single parent, but we have gotten through them with the help of friends and family.
As he got older he was diagnosed as having Asperger's Syndrome, a form of Autism, which is a developmental disorder that affects a child's ability to

Thought of the day–Single mother
Tomorrow marks the day, five years ago, when I turned from a couple to single, when the 'Mrs' was deleted from my name officially and when I had to

The immediate effect of on my mutilated family was that I had become the head of the family holding my children's lives solely in my hands. I had lots
of help from my parents, my sister and her husband, my brothers, aunts, uncles and cousins, but the major decisions were mine. Am I successful mother
? Only time will tell. Am I able to inculcate the right values and attitudes? Only time will tell.
I find that 'sermoning', lecturing and talking has no effect on my children, well,

Summary: Singles mother hurt themselves and children by trying to show society that they are strong and that they can survive by their own. This
source show us how kids can be affected in a bad way because of their mother status. When those women decide to bring to the family a new integrant,
kids get hurt with their emotional and in their academy life as shown in this quote " The more "transitions" experienced by a child – the arrival of a

Single Mom And Going Back To School Essay

  • 1. Single Mom and Going Back to School Essay Single Mom and Going Back To School I am in my mid–thirties and going back to school. I would have to say that my children are the primary reason behind this decision. I am their role model and teacher and I intend to be the best one possible. I want to show my children the endless possibilities of hard honest work. I want to send them to college and live comfortably. Throughout my personal experience, I have learned that anything is possible even while I am balancing a family, multi jobs and school. Once I left high school in 1992, I attended the Sawyer School for Business. With class to finish, I found out that I was pregnant and having problems. Because of my pregnancy problems, I had to leave school. I didn't graduate because I...show more content... This was the perfect job for me at the time because having a newborn, a six year old, and a twelve year old was a lot of work. It was very convenient for me to start house cleaning because I chose my hours. I was working two to three hours a day and was still available for my kids. At this point of my life that I still couldn't go back to school. One day, I decided to apply for a job on the third shift because I needed the extra money and it would be convenient for my kids and I. Working at Atria in Portsmouth required me to tend to elderly people. The most important thing to me is caring for the residence. I enjoyed working there so much and it made me think that I could go back to school to become a CNA, or even become a nurse. During the summer of 2012, I thought, "What am I doing with my life?" I was cleaning houses and taking care of the elderly. I suddenly realized that my girls were older and my son was in kindergarten; it's the perfect opportunity for me to accomplish my dream. So, I figured out my schedule so I would have plenty of time for work, school and my two youngest children. Finally, I thought to myself that I can go to school, get a degree, and maybe take my kids on vacation. Advice from one single mom to another single mom anything is possible if you have the heart and mind set. First, you need to decide what you want to do for a career. Second, find out where you can get help financially. Third, find a safe place for your children. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Going Back to College as a Single Mom Essay Going back to college after you have been out of school for quite a few years, had three children, been married, and divorced is a lot harder than I ever imagined. It takes hard work, dedication, and missing out on the little things previously taken for granted. I miss taking naps the most. I believe if you can tough it out through the worst days, you can finish school and provide a better life for your children and yourself. You need a lot of willpower and a large sense of humor. Set your alarm at least an hour before you really need to get out of the bed. If you set the alarm for an earlier hour you get to hit the snooze button few extra times. After the third hit, you should have awakened enough to actually rise out of the bed. Fix...show more content... Start helping the kids to get ready for school. When you start looking for shoes, do not forget places such as the trampoline, under the kitchen table, in the couch, and on top of the aquarium. This will help speed up the process of getting the kids ready before the bus arrives. Once the bus does pull up to the driveway send the kids on their way. Remember that standing outside in your pajamas and waving until the bus is out of sight does not embarrass your children. These actions show them how much you love them no matter what they say. Get yourself ready for the school day. Warm up your second cup of coffee and take a deep breath. Get a shower and wash your hair, brush teeth, get dressed, put breakfast dishes in the sink to soak, make sure all your homework is done for today's classes, put books into book bag, and put all of your things into the car. Don't forget that since you will be gone most of the day, to take care of all of your pets. Feed the fish, parakeets, hamsters, chickens, ducks, turkeys, and the dogs. Feeding these animals now will save you time later in the day by not having the "You promised to take care of your pets if I would get them for you", speech. Make sure the stove, faucets, and lights are turned off and the doors are locked. Get into your vehicle and drive off towards your school in silence because the radio is broken. This will give you ample time to worry if you have everything done and turned off the coffeepot. Then turn the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. College Admissions Essay: Single Mothers Then Esau looked up and saw the women and children. "Who are these with you?" he asked. Jacob answered, "They are the children God has graciously given your servant." (Genesis 33:5) As a servant of The Lord, I too have been graciously blessed with two children; Christian, age 7 and Angel, age 3, both boy's. I begin my journey with Colorado Christian University to honor My Lord and make both Him and my children proud of me. At one point in my life, God also blessed me with a wonderful husband in whom I started a family with. We were married for 6 years and courted a year before our marriage. Unfortunately, my husband was unfaithful and left me for another woman, leaving me heartbroken and to be a single mother. Both before and after our marriage, we were both involved in the church and loved the Lord very much, however as things tend to happen, our divorce was one of them. Throughout this, I stayed strong in my faith and begun a new life with just me and my boy's. Now I live for God and my children with the help and strength that comes from Him above. Taking it day by day, I plan to finish school and...show more content... Being a single mother is definitely not easy and I myself struggle every day. No matter what has been thrown at me or come my way, it is well worth it and I know God has a purpose for my life. As mentioned before, I will use all of my experiences to better my life and use my life as a testimony and example to help other's that God puts in my path. • 4. Growing Up With Single Mothers Growing up with only one single parent is one of the most significant challenges that I have ever had to face. I have not only grown up without a proper father figure, but the struggles that my mother and family have had to overcome were challenging in itself. Single mothers, especially those that must provide for more than one child, are hard working individuals. Single mothers always put their family before themselves in order to support their families. I myself have witnessed the selfless deeds that my own mother has done. She works very hard to make sure that me, and my other two siblings, are not in need of anything. My mother makes sure that she had the ability to provide for her family no matter the conflict. As for myself, I have concluded that single mothers do not have to be dependent on someone else, they are capable of many things that break many patriarchal idea and thoughts....show more content... Although she is an adult, having the support from her children is very helpful to continue through hard times and prosper. Trust is also one of the biggest steps that I have taken in overcoming the challenge. I trust that my mother will do all she can to be able to bring her family forward. I have never doubted my mother and have put my full trust and support in whatever she does. I trusted that she was more than capable in supporting me and allowing her family to prosper in today's society, and she did. Although there were, and continue to have many obstacle preventing her, she manages to prosper and surpass any Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. What Does Being A Single Mom Mean To Me Essay Growing up is scary, life is hard, and nobody tells you how to make tough decisions. If you're lucky enough though you will be blessed with a person in your life that will never leave your side and will be there to give you a hug at the end of one of those days life puts you on your rear end. Amy Hanger, my mother, is that person in my life; and that is why she is the person who has influenced my life in so many ways the 18 years I have been alive. My parents got a divorce at a young age leaving majority of the custody of me and my two sisters to my mom. Being a single mom, making ends meat is hard enough but my mom went above and beyond. As her career was taking off in corporate america you would think she would seek help taking care of me and my sisters by hiring a nanny or have our grandma watch us on a regular basis but she had none of that. Nothing can make you feel better than sharing one of your crazy life decisions and have a smile and warm hug waiting for you at the end of your story. Unconditional love still confuses me from time to time because I just can't grasp the idea of loving someone or something that much. But, what I do know, is that my mom has never let a day go by without letting me know that I am loved and meant for big things. I've seen her cry from tears of pride and get angry when the world isn't fair towards her daughters. Being loved by someone this much makes you feel as if I can take on the world, that I really am meant for great things, and that no matter what goes wrong you will always be alright because I have a mom that loves me more than anything in the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Single Mother Essay Unfortunately, what happened to Fatima can happen to anyone, being a parent is not an easy task to do sharing it with a partner let alone being a single mother with young children, she must have a lot to carry on her shoulders. Single mothers have to face a lot of emotional challenges such as making big decisions on their own, some prejudice from the society for being a single mother, self–doubt since there is not a partner to share questions about the kids and of course, there is always concern about money. A diet based on processed food just like Fatima and her family's can lead to many diseases like obesity, heart diseases, insulin resistance, etc. They need to make a change on their diet before it is too late, otherwise in a not so distant future her children can have a disease. Another reason to replace processed food for real and natural food is that processed food can make people addicted to it because when we eat it, all the flavors and artificial ingredients releases dopamine and give us a ''rewarding feeling'' that activates the same areas in the brain that some drugs activate and this can explain why so many people feel a huge need for these foods. (Kris Gunnars, Nine ways that processed foods are harming people) Many people that can not change their diet at least change theirs habits in order to be healthier, it is common wisdom that going for a walk is good in so many ways, smoking is bad for the lungs, alcohol abuse lead to diseases, rest is as good for the body as it is for the soul, our body needs at least 8 hours to sleep, etc. The latter is something that is being neglected more and more by people because who does have time to sleep for 8 hours or more? there are so many things to be done every day and without noticing, we just do not relax or sleep as Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 9. My Life As A Single Mom Essay After two messy divorces and several miserable relationships, I celebrated getting my head on straight. I loved my life. I loved being a single mom. I had my children and didn 't want any more kids. Most of all, I didn 't want a relationship with a man ever again. I soaked up yoga, meditation, and had a spiritual awakening. I 'd finally found that happiness comes from within me. I 'd professed my new–found joy with my neighbor who said, "Look out. When you 're not searching for love, that 's when it finds you." About a year later, my neighbor snickered with glee when I told her that 's exactly what had happened and blamed her for jinxing me. At last, I 'd found myself deep in love with a songwriter whose music had started me on my spiritual path. While David and I lived on opposite sides of the country, we 'd started corresponding with each other and before we knew it––boom! We 'd fallen in love. Even though we 'd confessed our love, we both believed in our own dreams. In his thirties, this happy–go–lucky bachelor had never married and was pursuing his life–long dream of being a songwriter and I had no intention of interrupting his life. I believed more than ever he 'd make it "big" one day, but he wouldn 't get there with me in tow. Of course, I didn 't have mapped out plans, but I 'd found happiness and honestly didn 't want another relationship. I had a nagging feeling that since I 'd failed in two marriages, marriage wasn 't Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Each year many children struggle to meet their daily needs, living through poverty and face inequality from the time they are born. Children will experience higher drop out rates, have difficulty finding employment, engage into teen pregnancy and face various problems as they grow older. • 12. Growing Up With a Single Mother People all grow up in different places, around different people, under different circumstance and, all of these cause different effects on their lives. People are who they are today because of the experiences that they faced. Until I was a teenager, it was always just my mom and I. I never met my "dad", not even from day one. I never was able to get to know him, or see him, but I did have a mom. I faced the odds of becoming the stereotypical kid with a single parent that went down the wrong path, but I never did. Life caused me to have a single mother that has made me the strong person that I am today. Watching my mother live from pay check to pay check when I was young was difficult. It was always hard for my mom to keep up with other parents but, she still somehow managed to get me everything I wanted, and more. Even though I was too young to understand, I could feel the stress, and the struggles my mom faced every day. She was only 20 years old when I was born and, because of that she had no choice but to grow up fast. At such a young age, I saw the effects of being a single parent, and the ways it changed my mom. She not only had to be a young mother but, she had to find a way to replace the void of a father, or a father figure in my life. My mom was strong, independent and courageous. Growing up watching her live her dreams under all the circumstances she faced, made me want to strive for a better life for myself. I enjoy being able to be a full–time mom and full–time student. The only downfall is that being a single parent makes it harder to have time to volunteer and participate in my community, as I would like to do. I hope to one day soon be involved in my community and be able to volunteer. And as my children get older; to be able to bring them along as well because I feel it is important for everyone including kids to lend a helping hand to those in need. • 15. The Challenges Faced By Single Mothers Single mothers are raising households and juggling multiple social roles with limited social support. Being a mom is rewarding and stressful but raising children without a co–parent or social support network while juggling all of the household responsibilities, the challenge can seem insurmountable. Studies indicate that single mothers are at a higher socioeconomic disadvantage which correlates with greater stress exposure and psychosocial risk factors. Being the only financial provider for food and bills is enough stress, much less for one person. A lot of single parents live by the motto "Robbing Peter to pay Paul" each month to make sure they have enough food, and all the school supplies that their children need. The psychosocial challenges faced by single mothers are from balancing the accumulation of social roles and raising children while economically vulnerable. The everyday struggles of parenting are magnified for single mothers because they are learning how to be the family unit from one person. The single mother takes on all of the roles that once were shared with a family unit; now the mother is the disciplinarian, the provider, the comforter, etc. The single mother now has to restructure her thinking and actions to be able to suit the ever–changing needs of her children, alongside the financial responsibilities of up–keeping the home. To balance these responsibilities while dealing with the weight of the additional roles, and the emotional effects of all of the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Single Moms: The Stress Of Single Mothers "I'm a working mother. You try to pay the bills, you try to keep your life going and there's pressure"– Carnie Wilson. This is true for many of the mothers out there, single or married. It is even more true that all mothers face different types of stress. However, it seems that single mothers can experience higher degrees of stress than married mothers, with single mothers working hard on a daily basis. According to a study by the American Sociological Review, researchers found that single mothers can be more stressed than married mothers due to raising a child alone and other economic situations (Melnick). Through this, the answer can be pretty obvious: single mothers are more stressed than married mothers. Throughout the years, the percentage...show more content... A student from Western Michigan University found that children from single–parent homes have a strong parent to child communication system with a network of community support, and increasing levels of independence (Barajas). Other studies have shown even if single mothers don't have a spouse to deal with the extra weight, the mother has a community around them to help; and they can join community groups such as church groups and single parent support groups (Wolf). If not the community, the mother's child can help carry some of the responsibilities. However, sometimes these community groups aren't available to many single mothers and their kids may be too young to aid their motherВґs problems.
