Essay about College Party Life
College Party Life
College parties at JMU, both on campus and off–specifically off–campus, may seem a mish mash of little planning, teenage hormones, beer induced
chaos and the new found freedom, for some at least, from ones parents. This however is just a superficial observation. The college party scene at
JMU is highly ritualized, even regimented. According to your social status, the people you know, activities you are involved (mainly sports), and the
way you look, act, and dress all affect your experience of a college party.
The universal party night for students is Saturday, JMU students being no exception. For most students at Madison, the week is wrought with worry
and toil over books, notes, classes, and exams....show more content...
Males are generally more relaxed in their dress, nice jeans or cargo pants, dress shoes or Hush Puppy –type shoes, almost always a button up shirt and
a sweater hear or there. These clothes are meant to be nice, but are worn in a very relaxed manner, pants are baggy and worn low and shirts are
almost never tucked in. Clothes, especially when worn to be seen and shown off, as they are on Saturday nights, are usually of a particular brand
that is known and worn by many other people, Abercrombie and Fitch, American Eagle, Gap, and Hollister are the most popular among people with
a large amount of disposable income. Hair is done in a specific way by most males and makes for a frightening, or pathetically funny uniformity,
depending on viewpoint. The hair is slicked forward and the front end is slicked up. This look is also made popular by the clothes companies where
those males shop.
Females also put effort into their appearance, and it is very obvious. One reason Saturday night starts so late, aside from it being dark, and this is only
a personal observation, is that females put so much effort into the way they look, that they are not done until 8 or 9 at night. Guys can dress and comb
their hair and be ready to party in 30 minutes, and that's if they go all out, cologne, after shave, shampoo (AND conditioning), face wash, getting their
hair done right, and getting the right clothes on. Females go through the same steps, most don't use after

College Life
Dear Freshman Friend:
Hello and welcome to college! You will spend the next four years of your life studying, sleeping, eating, exercising, making friends, making enemies,
falling in love, being heart broken, plagiarizing, and suffering in this ancient institution called university. You probably learned from brochures,
applications, and other similar college advertisements the number of volumes the library owns, the name of your future college professors, and even
how many hectares the university covers. But nobody has ever talk to you about this: the reality of college students. These are secrets behind the
walls, the subject that many admission officers had tried for decades to keep it as a secret until this...show more content...
Here is some advice that can make the adjustment process easier:
В·Roommates––you can be sharing your room with a psycho, compulsive maniac, nerd, punk, or Goth, it can be very scary and frustrating at the
same time. My advice is to set up a camcorder to follow all his actions, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for about a month to decide whether or not he
/she is "normal". If your roommate passes the test then you will be all right. If not request a room change claiming that you suffer twentythreephobic,
or any other phobia that beginnings with your room number.
В·Food Cafeteria––you will hate it. Especially when the ham sandwich you were served for lunch look suspiciously like the honey baked ham you
were served at dinner the night before. You will end up eating cereal, bagels, and soda whenever there is "recycled" food. If you plan to buy pizza,
ice cream, or any junk food for late night snacks, keep it in your own fridge otherwise it will be gone within two minutes. Coffee and Coke will
disappear faster during midterms and finals.
В·R.A and RD––Resident Assistant and Resident Director's main job is to "safeguard hall resident's concerns and needs". But they can be humans as
well. If you hate yours and want to driving him crazy keep nagging him/her about: how cold/hot your room is, the color of your room's roof, the
cafeteria food, your homesickness,

Personal Growth in College Essay
So far, the college experience has made me a changed person. College changed me into a better person on many occasions. I have learned to be more
responsible, when it comes down to getting work done. In college you must be responsible. I have also changed my attitude. Moving from high
school to college is a big step; if you don't change your ways for the better then you might not be successful in college. When you reach college then is
the time that you become an adult.
First off, the college life has changed me for the better. I am much more responsible in many different ways. I had to change my study habits, or should I
say I have to get study habits. I high school I never studied, because everything came so easy to me and I could just...show more content...
That's just one example, there are many more. Another reason college is a big step is because you're on your own, and you don't have nobody to tell you
what to do, you make your own decisions when it has to deal with getting up early in the morning to go to class, you have your parents or anyone to
wake you up, it's a big step, you just have to stay focus.
Third of all, you have to change your attitude toward school. You have to want to finish school; you have to think about the money you are
spending to go to school. For example you are paying for every class you take and if you fail a class then you are paying for the same class again.
College is a major step from high school. I personally wasn't ready for college, but this being my second year I understand what I have to do to
finish school. I understand more and more why education is a major issue in life, especially a college education. Entering college you have to change
your game plan to get where you want to be in life.
In conclusion, the college experience has made me a changed person. It has made me a changed person for the better. I have learned a lot, I have
learned responsibility. Without responsibility in college you will not make very far. You must get your work done, and be punctual. You must make
the right decisions, don't let peer pressure get to you, try to avoid it. Don't let college change you for the worst, take advantage of

My Life As A College Student Essay
Over the course of the last semester, I grew tremendously, not just as a writer but as a student. I learned skills and tactics that will last me
throughout my life and will benefit me once I begin the next four years of my life as a college student. This early gateway into college writing
provided me with exposure to the expectations that I will face in the college classroom. This will come in handy in the English classroom, as well as
in every subject I will face over the course of the next four years, and beyond. Writing is a key skill that communicates ideas and information, and is
essential to being successful. Whether I go into the music industry or find myself in a completely unforeseen career, it is certain that I will use my
writing skills at some point. This class sharpened those skills and prepared me for the future in ways no high school english class could. This class
has challenged me to think more in depth than I ever have before. It forced me to use my writing as a means of expressing knowledge, ideas, and
facts in a clear organized manner. In order to accomplish the goals of each paper assigned, I found new ways to present the same information. For
example, in every essay I included the theme that governments should be more involved in the fight against cyber warfare. However, I presented this
idea in each paper in different forms. In the summary, I simply stated what an author of a certain article had to say about this idea. In the critique, I

Summary Of Colleges Prepare People For Life
In "Colleges Prepare People For Life" Freeman, Hrabowski states that "College graduates are much more likely to be employed than those with
only a high school diploma and earn substantially higher salaries" (260). He then goes on to say that college not only will prepare people for jobs
but will also prepare them for life in general. It becomes a beginning of a very bright future. Hrabowski supports this by saying that " fewer than 10
percent of Americans from the lowest income quartile have earned a college degree by age 24, compares to 80 percent of those in the top quartile" (261).
The more counseling that people are getting the better they can identify the best option for them. There is more at stake other than just not having

Personal Narrative: My Life In College
Believe it or not, I began my life in college. My mother moved me to Austin when I was just six months old. She was only nineteen, studying as a
full time student at the University of Texas. She was also raised in a small town with a strong family. However, conceiving a child at such a young
age in college only added another obstacle of becoming a single mother while being a student. After years of dedication and hard work, she graduated
with a 4.0 GPA in nursing. Shortly after, she became what she aspired to be; a registerednurse, through the support of her family and drive to overcome
adversity. Watching my mother push through hardships has taught me to set even higher goals for myself. As I grew older, these family traits and
values became

Life Of A College Student Essay
Time sure does fly by! It feels as if it was just yesterday when we threw our graduation caps up in the air. What will our future hold after we enter
the next chapter in our lives? Many are encouraged, debating, or even forced to enter their new chapter into the life of a college student. High school
graduates are given limited options in the generation we live in today. We grow up to believe that success comes with the development of education as
you grow from a pre–schooler to an adult. Many don't continue their education because they don't want to live off of a piece of paper their entire life.
Parents and teachers influence students to continue their education after high school; it increases their chances for the future career they pursue.
Graduates should continue their education because they gain independence, knowledge, and creates financial stability.
Several students who have part time jobs believe they make enough money; therefore, they don 't consider being open–minded of future careers ahead
of them. An example of a job that influences young adults to believe that they make enough money to maintain their lives already are factories like
Walmart DC. Those students may be influenced by their parents because their mother or father didn't continue their education either while still
conserving enough money in their savings account. Parents are role models to their kids whereas having motivation will only inspire students for
further success. Some may think that they

My Life As a College Student
Making the Transition
When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one student to dissolve the bonds which have held him to his high school life, he can
get fairly intimidated. Making the transition from high school to college can be a tough one. I remember my experience in such a transition vividly, as
it was only a short time ago.
Growing up in a family in which both my parents had master's degrees, it was naturally expected that I would go to college, and for both my own
benefit as well as pleasing my parents, I chose to pursue so–called "higher education". Stepping up to this "higher" plateau is no small matter, however.

(It may be a bit of a stretch here to call myself a man yet.) The hardest part was getting settled into my new place. Fortunately, my campus has
apartments in lieu of dormitories. I went to the lease office and paid what, at the time, seemed like a fortune, and ran up and down two flights of stairs
for hours in an attempt to move in my belongings. My roommates seemed nice, and one of them had yet to move in, so the room next to mine
remained vacant for a while.
Boxed Noodles and Other Delicacies
The Darwinian theory of survival of the fittest translates well to the college world. While living on my own, many of my long–dormant, carnivorous
instincts kicked in. A trip to the local superstore meant that my pantry was well stocked, but replenishing it was another matter. I soon found myself
planted firmly in a regimen of boxed noodles, frozen pizza, and TV dinners. While not the healthiest of diets, they did allow me enough carbohydrates
to make it through twelve hours of classes.
CB vs. CBW
After the initial stumbling block more commonly known as residential life, I faced the towering challenge of settling into classes. Once I had
registered (which was itself something of a dilemma), I had in my hand a sheet of abbreviations that rivaled a military briefing or a computer manual.
My first class, on a Thursday morning, was located in a building called CBW, which stood for Classroom Building West. Surely the

College Admissions Essay: My Life As A Christian
We are at a trying time in our human history. We find ourselves at a moral, cultural, and political crossroads. With much of the landscape of influence
being shifted year–to–year, or even day–to–day, we must, as individuals, recognize the importance of placing Christian values at the forefront of our
thinking. Being as close to Christ–like as we humans can be must be essential in the way we think, the way we treat others, and the way we invest our
very selves in causes that serve His name. In my previous three plus years here, as well as before, I believe that I have embraced these qualities and
am ready to expand my horizon to the collegiate level. Before action can take, it is important to consult Scripture for inspiration. One verse that I
like to lead by is "Let your faith be bigger than your fear". This is a very powerful verse that I like to keep in that back of my mind. It helps me because
I know that with my faith in God, I can defeat anything. I am not ashamed of my faith because it is what keeps me...show more content...
Being pro–life for me is not just becoming a teen for life member but also participating in many more ways than that. I help set up and contribute to the
tree of life at our school semi–annually and encourage my classmates and teammates to participate as well. This is such an important factor to being
pro–life to me because I want support these strong women anyway I can and a simple act of buying diapers or onesies is the least I can do. Being
pro–life in today's society can be a touchy subject. You see things about being pro–life and pro–choice all over Twitter and Facebook and I could
choose to sit back and let everything happen or I can choose my voice to be heard. I want to be the voice for those who never had the chance and for
those in the future who won't. My age does not define how I can influence the world if anything it motivates me to get a jump start on changing

School Life And College Life Essay
An Essay on School Life and College Life
There is a great deal of difference between school life and college life. School life is a life of restrictions and control, a life in which the student has
to be accountable for his daily work to his teachers and his guardian. But a college student, of the other hand, enjoys much greater freedom from
control and supervision; he is, to a very large extent, the master of his own destiny. It lies with him to make it or mar it.
At school the students has to be in attendance for fixed hours every day. He has to leave home at ten or eleven and return at four at college, however, the
hours of attendance very. Sometimes, a college student has hardly time in the morning to gulp his food; at others, he has enough time to lounge about
for a few minutes after a leisurely meal. On some days he returns early from college; or others, it is late evening by the time he gets back home. He
has ample time at his disposal to use, abuse, or misuse.
At school the student has to prepare his daily lessons and may be taken to task for what he has left undone. But at college he can do his lessons daily,

At school, students acquire habits of discipline and regularity. They have to practice obedience and follow instruction. But at college students are
expected to develop a sense of responsibility and personal initiative. In other words, what a school student has to do under com–pulsing is done by the
college students out of his greater sense of responsibility. Of course it has to be admitted that college life offers greater scope to a student to go astray.
It he takes himself light–heartedly, he will have to suffer. It he allows arrears of studies to accumulate he will pay the price with failure and disgrace.
Hence a studious pupil improves more rapidly at college than at school; but a waster comes quicker to

Struggles of College Students
A college student taking their first few steps onto a college campus is the day when they can finally feel the independence they were longing for.
College is a place where students can find themselves. It can be a place for success as well as a place for partying. Attending college comes with many
struggles. College tests every individual by staying above the influence, becoming a more organized student, and even making them step out of their
comfort zone.
When a student enters the college world, they are faced with the struggle of peer pressure. This pressure may include alcohol and drug abuse. Staying
above the influence is hard to do when pressured into...show more content...
Waking up on time for class goes along with getting enough sleep. Students should time when they need to wake up for class and set an accurate
alarm to wake them up. Staying organized also involves avoiding clutter. Many students will stack all of their papers together keeping them
unorganized. This can cause many problems when studying for the final exam. To keep organized while studying, a student should have a quiet
place to study. It would make it easier if a student had folders separating homework and notes for each of their classes. Having one's notes organized
makes study time a lot smoother and less stressful. "...You also have to study 26 hours a week, according to professors. Or else you'll flunk out"
(Silver). Studying is very important in college. College is a whole new world compared to high school," Alana Gardner from Indiana University
confessed, "I used to study half an hour for test in high school. Omigosh I'm literally insane, you have to study at least two hours for a test in college!"
(Silver).
When a student enters the college world, it makes him/her nervous and excited for what is about to come into their lives. When going to college,
many students go to a college a few hours away from their hometown. This can be hard to break away from one who had lived with their parents
through high school, but can also be a great opportunity for independence. Many students who go to a college that is

Essay on Dorm Life
Dorm Life
College can be great; living with your roommates can be a nightmare. But wait......before you throw in the towel, make sure you know and understand
the rules of a dorm room. Dorm life is something almost every college student must experience. It's not as easy as it seems either. Most of the time
students will try to room with people they know, but normally a student can't be that lucky to make that happen. It can actually be easier living with
people who are complete strangers, than living with people that have been there through life.
The first thing to accomplish is knowing the fact that in a dorm room, everyone has a job. Everyone in the room must provide certain things. For
example, one should bring the...show more content...
Your effectiveness with this message will depend on how assertively you deliver it. Try not to sound meek and apologetic, because then they may
dismiss your concerns. But try not to sound blaming and angry either, as if they are a horrible person; that will make them defensive. In both your
choice of words and tone of voice, strive to come across as one friendly, reasonable adult talking to another friendly, reasonable adult. You have
something important you want to say, and you assume they'll listen."
Being inconsiderate with one another is something else many roommates have problems with. Classes are at different times, so waking up to get
ready for class with occur at different times as well. Aroommate may get to sleep longer than another roommate. So if there were another room, to not
make problems, it would be best to get ready where the other roommates can't be disturbed. Slamming things around, and being loud in general is
neither considerate nor respectful of the other people living there. Problems will more than likely occur and living together will be much harder. Every
College student should know, you must be considerate with one another or else your living situations are going to have a downslide. You can't take for
granted that your roommate, or anyone else, will know what you want or do what you think they should. People aren't mind readers. To get results, you
have to communicate assertively, expressing your wishes, feelings and needs

My College Experience Essay examples
My College Experience
Throughout my lifetime I have listened to people reflect back on their college experiences and explain how college is supposed to be "the best
experience of your life." The summer after my senior year I use to try and imagine what my first semester was going to be like based on what I had
heard people talk about in the past. After my first semester at NC State I realized that I couldn't fully understand what college was like until I
experienced it for myself. My first couple of weeks at Ohio State was rough and really tested my strength (mental and physical). I faced challenges
and obstacles that I had never heard about in those past college experience conversations. All of a sudden there was no one to get me out of...show more

I can remember missing 8:05 classes because I stayed out too late the night before. In high school the teacher would constantly remind the students
when certain assignments were due, but this was not the case in college. I learned that the hard way my first semester. Sometimes I forgot to turn in
an assignment because I didn't properly read my syllabus and my professor never mentioned it. These were all new problems that could have easily
let escalate without taking the proper actions. For the most part I was doing fairly well but a few of my grades began to plummet. I was losing the
confidence in myself and started to wonder if going to college had been the best decision. The time had come for me to grow up and become an adult
even I didn't feel the time was right. I immediately began attending tutoring sessions, working with peers and also keeping a daily to–do list. These
factors were the eventually led to drastic improvement and success. After my first semester I learned how better manage my time, take advantage of
campus resources and also how to organize myself better. These struggles also taught me that sometimes I try and rush through things instead of
taking my time. I realized that one of my strong points is being able to really do well when my back is against the wall. Although I was unhappy
while facing obstacles I am happy I experienced them. I believe this experience was the reason for my

Preparing for College
Preparing For College
It is the dream of everyone to join college with the hope of getting a better tomorrow and a foundation for them to make it in life. However, this may
not be the case with some students as this dream may turn into a nightmare. This is because many students fail to go through or others even fail simply
because they have not prepared enough; not just academically but also on the personal side. Many college students lack vision, they still have not
found their purpose to be in school. A vision in this case is supposed to be kind of a "plan" for their college life. It is meant to guide them and help
them achieve the sole purpose for joining college and pursue careers of their dream .When they lack goals, it is then that they are drowned into peer
vices such as substance abuse and they end up ruining not only education life but also their future. It would be advisable for higher learning institutions
to encourage freshmen students as they join college to develop goals. Another symptom of inadequate preparation is lack of motivation. When a college
student lacks motivation, it is obvious that what follows is loss of desire to attend classes. This is followed by frequent absenteeism and poor grades
will be the final outcome. Laziness and failure to complete and submit assignments on time is also caused by lack of motivation. Motivation is what a
student entirely relies upon since it is what fuels him or her towards the journey of success. It is what

The Realities of College Life Essay
As I graduated high school, I thought college would just be yet another four years of high school, and I was wrong. College opens many new doors in
a young man or woman's life. There are new responsibilities and pressures that you will have to deal with, and with more freedom these responsibilities
and pressures can be difficult to handle. College has changed a great deal over the years and these changes, such as more freedoms, make college a
much more challenging experience. You need to start preparing for college now by making yourself more responsible and having more self–control.

They did not ever want to think they would change jobs. They want to know what is going to happen in their lives till they get to their prepaid grave
(292). Zinsser believes that students need to stop worrying so much about the pay of their jobs. He wants students to study the subject that interests
them, not which career pays the most. There is definitely one unifying aspect that is the same between college now and then and that is there are
pressures.
In college life, students face many pressures. One of my biggest stressors was keeping my student scholarship. After coming in to college with a
3.3 grade point average, I knew that keeping a 3.0 in college, for my scholarship, was going to be a challenge that I had not yet experienced. This
caused me to work even harder and sometimes even too hard. The scholarship played a large factor in choosing Baldwin Wallace as my school of
choice, so retaining my reward is of the utmost importance to both me personally, and my parents financially. As I began classes I realized that the
work load seemed a lot larger than high school, and sometimes as if it were never going to end. I soon realized how to balance my time between
school work and making grades, as well as meeting new people and having fun. There are many enjoyable things that make college the great
experience it has been so far, so finding an equilibrium of hard work and good times has been one the best new attributes I have

Reflection Of My College Experience
This course like my entire first semester of university have provided me with both many challenges as well as taught me many lessons not only
for my university career, but for the rest of my life. As I reflect back on the semester, I recall telling myself at least once a week that I wanted to
drop out of school, followed by many breakdowns, crying fits and calling defeat. The past few months, haven't been at all easy for me, I have
thought many times I wasn't intelligent enough to be in university, I was disappointed with some of the grades I received and I was constantly
engulfed in a swarm of stress. Despite all these tough times, I have had many good one's as well, I have made new friends which are now integral to
my everyday life and I have enhanced my knowledge to a new degree. Some of the many lessons that I've already learned in my short university
experience include how to manage my time, the importance of meeting deadlines as well as the continuous struggle of balancing the various different
facets of life.
A range of different and useful topics have been discussed since the start of Pathways to lifelong learning, some of which I found to be of particular
help. The college expectations which we learned towards the beginning of the course was especially helpful to learning how to become a critical
thinker, something that was not very touched upon throughout my time in high school. I now use Bloom's Taxonomy when beginning to prepare for
an important paper or presentation. In addition to the first chapter, I had also found great help in the second chapter on the skills needed to succeed in
school. In the past, I used rehearsal as my main strategy to memorize for any upcoming tests or exams, however that often resulted in either retrieval
failure or ineffective encoding. I now use chunking and elaboration as my main strategies to studying as I find it most effective when studying and
retrieving information, especially when I am needing to memorize and learn a big amount of material.
Now that I have completed Pathways to lifelong learning, I have come to realize that the extreme stress I endured as mentioned earlier was due to my
poor time management skills as well as my poor stress management. I

College Is An Opportunity That Changes Your Life
A place were you can fulfill all your dreams in a span of two to four years...Filled with diversity, acceptance from others, and different
environments...Online learning or learning in person...College sums up all of these different assumptions and options. College is an opportunity that
changes your life no matter if it is a four–year college or a two–year community college. In some cases, you need to study certain majors in that you
feel are necessary for particular careers. However, college may not be for you. Many of you would rather go into the army, instead of spending
your time and patience in a place were you feel as if you don't belong. College is a great option for some people, but is not always the route
everyone should take. College is what you make of it, but not knowing your purpose of why you are in college is a issue. It 's time that people
realize that college can make you or break you if you don't know what you are after. College may be for those who know why they 're going to
college. They have a general idea of what they want to do and will stop at nothing until it 's accomplished. People generally go to college with the
passion of doing what they always dreamed of doing. College is more than just going to school to get a high paying job. College can help you meet
other people, gain financial responsibility, figure out who you are as an individual, etc. In college, networking is very important because not only do

My Most Memorable Experience In College
My first semester here at Albright College is definitely one that I'm going to remember. Although it has gone by way too fast, a lot of hilarious and
great memories were made, mostly with the people who are in my First Year Seminar class/POP group. Not only did I make amazing memories, but I
have also changed a bit and even learned more about myself. In addition, I have made quite a few accomplishments, personal and academic since my
midterm reflection. In the beginning of the semester, I came up with a long–term goal which was partially completed throughout the semester. My most
memorable experience this semester would have to be POPs weekend because that is the reason Kaitlyn and I have become so close, as well as Brian

I have learned things about myself along with things in general. When I was living at home, my mom likes to have things done her way. As a
result of this somewhat stubborn trait, which I obtained from her, she wouldn't let me do my laundry because she thought I would ruin the washer
or something, I don't even know. Therefore, I learned how to do my own laundry since living on my own, which really isn't difficult at all.
Something surprising I learned about myself is that I'm not as shy as I always thought I was. It used to be hard for me to open up and make many
friends when I was younger. But now, I made several friends the first weekend here, thanks to POPs. I have had a couple of successes during this
semester, personal and academic. I remember getting a low grade on my first chemistry exam this semester, and I stated in my midterm reflection
that a goal I had was to get better grades on the next chemistry exams. Luckily and to my surprise, I got fairly high scores on the last two tests.
During POPs weekends, everyone had to write down a first semester personal goal and put them in an envelope. I don't remember too well, but I'm
almost positive that I wrote down that my goal was to make good friends during the course of the semester. Fortunately, I accomplished this goal and
made very good friends with some the very first people I met on welcoming weekend. For my midterm reflection

Personal Experience: College Life
College was very much a paradox for me. College was the most challenging experiences in my life, and yet one of the best experiences I have ever
had. During my undergraduate years, I met new people, took exciting courses, and learned to live without the daily guidance of my parents. And
most of all, I was able to learn more about myself. After my first year, the pressure of living on campus, friends, and classes began to take a toll on
me. I began to fall apart. I worked two jobs to support myself, knowing that I could not ask my parents frequently for money due to their own
financial burdens at home. I had to constantly deal with the upheaval from my relationships with roommates, friends, and family. I began dealing
with anxiety, and my confidence level dropped considerably. My schoolwork began to suffer, and I began to withdraw from my friends and
family. There were times when I cried almost every day and felt as though I could not carry on. The hardest part of all of this was putting on a
façade for the people around me as though everything was perfectly okay. I still wanted people to see my as the happy, smiling person that was
always in a good mood. Seeing that my grades had plummeted and realizing that I was going through a depressed time in my life, made me take a
stand to make changes in my life. I knew I could not sit around dwelling in my despair while life passed me by. I am a firm believer in the phrase, "if

Essay About College Party Life

  • 1. Essay about College Party Life College Party Life College parties at JMU, both on campus and off–specifically off–campus, may seem a mish mash of little planning, teenage hormones, beer induced chaos and the new found freedom, for some at least, from ones parents. This however is just a superficial observation. The college party scene at JMU is highly ritualized, even regimented. According to your social status, the people you know, activities you are involved (mainly sports), and the way you look, act, and dress all affect your experience of a college party. The universal party night for students is Saturday, JMU students being no exception. For most students at Madison, the week is wrought with worry and toil over books, notes, classes, and exams....show more content... Males are generally more relaxed in their dress, nice jeans or cargo pants, dress shoes or Hush Puppy –type shoes, almost always a button up shirt and a sweater hear or there. These clothes are meant to be nice, but are worn in a very relaxed manner, pants are baggy and worn low and shirts are almost never tucked in. Clothes, especially when worn to be seen and shown off, as they are on Saturday nights, are usually of a particular brand that is known and worn by many other people, Abercrombie and Fitch, American Eagle, Gap, and Hollister are the most popular among people with a large amount of disposable income. Hair is done in a specific way by most males and makes for a frightening, or pathetically funny uniformity, depending on viewpoint. The hair is slicked forward and the front end is slicked up. This look is also made popular by the clothes companies where those males shop. Females also put effort into their appearance, and it is very obvious. One reason Saturday night starts so late, aside from it being dark, and this is only a personal observation, is that females put so much effort into the way they look, that they are not done until 8 or 9 at night. Guys can dress and comb their hair and be ready to party in 30 minutes, and that's if they go all out, cologne, after shave, shampoo (AND conditioning), face wash, getting their hair done right, and getting the right clothes on. Females go through the same steps, most don't use after Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Essay about College Life College Life Dear Freshman Friend: Hello and welcome to college! You will spend the next four years of your life studying, sleeping, eating, exercising, making friends, making enemies, falling in love, being heart broken, plagiarizing, and suffering in this ancient institution called university. You probably learned from brochures, applications, and other similar college advertisements the number of volumes the library owns, the name of your future college professors, and even how many hectares the university covers. But nobody has ever talk to you about this: the reality of college students. These are secrets behind the walls, the subject that many admission officers had tried for decades to keep it as a secret until this...show more content... Here is some advice that can make the adjustment process easier: В·Roommates––you can be sharing your room with a psycho, compulsive maniac, nerd, punk, or Goth, it can be very scary and frustrating at the same time. My advice is to set up a camcorder to follow all his actions, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for about a month to decide whether or not he /she is "normal". If your roommate passes the test then you will be all right. If not request a room change claiming that you suffer twentythreephobic, or any other phobia that beginnings with your room number. В·Food Cafeteria––you will hate it. Especially when the ham sandwich you were served for lunch look suspiciously like the honey baked ham you were served at dinner the night before. You will end up eating cereal, bagels, and soda whenever there is "recycled" food. If you plan to buy pizza, ice cream, or any junk food for late night snacks, keep it in your own fridge otherwise it will be gone within two minutes. Coffee and Coke will disappear faster during midterms and finals. В·R.A and RD––Resident Assistant and Resident Director's main job is to "safeguard hall resident's concerns and needs". But they can be humans as well. If you hate yours and want to driving him crazy keep nagging him/her about: how cold/hot your room is, the color of your room's roof, the cafeteria food, your homesickness, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Personal Growth in College Essay So far, the college experience has made me a changed person. College changed me into a better person on many occasions. I have learned to be more responsible, when it comes down to getting work done. In college you must be responsible. I have also changed my attitude. Moving from high school to college is a big step; if you don't change your ways for the better then you might not be successful in college. When you reach college then is the time that you become an adult. First off, the college life has changed me for the better. I am much more responsible in many different ways. I had to change my study habits, or should I say I have to get study habits. I high school I never studied, because everything came so easy to me and I could just...show more content... That's just one example, there are many more. Another reason college is a big step is because you're on your own, and you don't have nobody to tell you what to do, you make your own decisions when it has to deal with getting up early in the morning to go to class, you have your parents or anyone to wake you up, it's a big step, you just have to stay focus. Third of all, you have to change your attitude toward school. You have to want to finish school; you have to think about the money you are spending to go to school. For example you are paying for every class you take and if you fail a class then you are paying for the same class again. College is a major step from high school. I personally wasn't ready for college, but this being my second year I understand what I have to do to finish school. I understand more and more why education is a major issue in life, especially a college education. Entering college you have to change your game plan to get where you want to be in life. In conclusion, the college experience has made me a changed person. It has made me a changed person for the better. I have learned a lot, I have learned responsibility. Without responsibility in college you will not make very far. You must get your work done, and be punctual. You must make the right decisions, don't let peer pressure get to you, try to avoid it. Don't let college change you for the worst, take advantage of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. My Life As A College Student Essay Over the course of the last semester, I grew tremendously, not just as a writer but as a student. I learned skills and tactics that will last me throughout my life and will benefit me once I begin the next four years of my life as a college student. This early gateway into college writing provided me with exposure to the expectations that I will face in the college classroom. This will come in handy in the English classroom, as well as in every subject I will face over the course of the next four years, and beyond. Writing is a key skill that communicates ideas and information, and is essential to being successful. Whether I go into the music industry or find myself in a completely unforeseen career, it is certain that I will use my writing skills at some point. This class sharpened those skills and prepared me for the future in ways no high school english class could. This class has challenged me to think more in depth than I ever have before. It forced me to use my writing as a means of expressing knowledge, ideas, and facts in a clear organized manner. In order to accomplish the goals of each paper assigned, I found new ways to present the same information. For example, in every essay I included the theme that governments should be more involved in the fight against cyber warfare. However, I presented this idea in each paper in different forms. In the summary, I simply stated what an author of a certain article had to say about this idea. In the critique, I discussed Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Summary Of Colleges Prepare People For Life In "Colleges Prepare People For Life" Freeman, Hrabowski states that "College graduates are much more likely to be employed than those with only a high school diploma and earn substantially higher salaries" (260). He then goes on to say that college not only will prepare people for jobs but will also prepare them for life in general. It becomes a beginning of a very bright future. Hrabowski supports this by saying that " fewer than 10 percent of Americans from the lowest income quartile have earned a college degree by age 24, compares to 80 percent of those in the top quartile" (261). The more counseling that people are getting the better they can identify the best option for them. There is more at stake other than just not having financial Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Personal Narrative: My Life In College Believe it or not, I began my life in college. My mother moved me to Austin when I was just six months old. She was only nineteen, studying as a full time student at the University of Texas. She was also raised in a small town with a strong family. However, conceiving a child at such a young age in college only added another obstacle of becoming a single mother while being a student. After years of dedication and hard work, she graduated with a 4.0 GPA in nursing. Shortly after, she became what she aspired to be; a registerednurse, through the support of her family and drive to overcome adversity. Watching my mother push through hardships has taught me to set even higher goals for myself. As I grew older, these family traits and values became Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Life Of A College Student Essay Time sure does fly by! It feels as if it was just yesterday when we threw our graduation caps up in the air. What will our future hold after we enter the next chapter in our lives? Many are encouraged, debating, or even forced to enter their new chapter into the life of a college student. High school graduates are given limited options in the generation we live in today. We grow up to believe that success comes with the development of education as you grow from a pre–schooler to an adult. Many don't continue their education because they don't want to live off of a piece of paper their entire life. Parents and teachers influence students to continue their education after high school; it increases their chances for the future career they pursue. Graduates should continue their education because they gain independence, knowledge, and creates financial stability. Several students who have part time jobs believe they make enough money; therefore, they don 't consider being open–minded of future careers ahead of them. An example of a job that influences young adults to believe that they make enough money to maintain their lives already are factories like Walmart DC. Those students may be influenced by their parents because their mother or father didn't continue their education either while still conserving enough money in their savings account. Parents are role models to their kids whereas having motivation will only inspire students for further success. Some may think that they Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. My Life As a College Student Making the Transition When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one student to dissolve the bonds which have held him to his high school life, he can get fairly intimidated. Making the transition from high school to college can be a tough one. I remember my experience in such a transition vividly, as it was only a short time ago. Growing up in a family in which both my parents had master's degrees, it was naturally expected that I would go to college, and for both my own benefit as well as pleasing my parents, I chose to pursue so–called "higher education". Stepping up to this "higher" plateau is no small matter, however. You Can Pick Your Friends A typical junior or senior in high...show more content... (It may be a bit of a stretch here to call myself a man yet.) The hardest part was getting settled into my new place. Fortunately, my campus has apartments in lieu of dormitories. I went to the lease office and paid what, at the time, seemed like a fortune, and ran up and down two flights of stairs for hours in an attempt to move in my belongings. My roommates seemed nice, and one of them had yet to move in, so the room next to mine remained vacant for a while. Boxed Noodles and Other Delicacies The Darwinian theory of survival of the fittest translates well to the college world. While living on my own, many of my long–dormant, carnivorous instincts kicked in. A trip to the local superstore meant that my pantry was well stocked, but replenishing it was another matter. I soon found myself planted firmly in a regimen of boxed noodles, frozen pizza, and TV dinners. While not the healthiest of diets, they did allow me enough carbohydrates to make it through twelve hours of classes. CB vs. CBW After the initial stumbling block more commonly known as residential life, I faced the towering challenge of settling into classes. Once I had registered (which was itself something of a dilemma), I had in my hand a sheet of abbreviations that rivaled a military briefing or a computer manual. My first class, on a Thursday morning, was located in a building called CBW, which stood for Classroom Building West. Surely the

  • 10. College Admissions Essay: My Life As A Christian We are at a trying time in our human history. We find ourselves at a moral, cultural, and political crossroads. With much of the landscape of influence being shifted year–to–year, or even day–to–day, we must, as individuals, recognize the importance of placing Christian values at the forefront of our thinking. Being as close to Christ–like as we humans can be must be essential in the way we think, the way we treat others, and the way we invest our very selves in causes that serve His name. In my previous three plus years here, as well as before, I believe that I have embraced these qualities and am ready to expand my horizon to the collegiate level. Before action can take, it is important to consult Scripture for inspiration. One verse that I like to lead by is "Let your faith be bigger than your fear". This is a very powerful verse that I like to keep in that back of my mind. It helps me because I know that with my faith in God, I can defeat anything. I am not ashamed of my faith because it is what keeps me...show more content... Being pro–life for me is not just becoming a teen for life member but also participating in many more ways than that. I help set up and contribute to the tree of life at our school semi–annually and encourage my classmates and teammates to participate as well. This is such an important factor to being pro–life to me because I want support these strong women anyway I can and a simple act of buying diapers or onesies is the least I can do. Being pro–life in today's society can be a touchy subject. You see things about being pro–life and pro–choice all over Twitter and Facebook and I could choose to sit back and let everything happen or I can choose my voice to be heard. I want to be the voice for those who never had the chance and for those in the future who won't. • 11. School Life And College Life Essay An Essay on School Life and College Life There is a great deal of difference between school life and college life. School life is a life of restrictions and control, a life in which the student has to be accountable for his daily work to his teachers and his guardian. But a college student, of the other hand, enjoys much greater freedom from control and supervision; he is, to a very large extent, the master of his own destiny. It lies with him to make it or mar it. At school the students has to be in attendance for fixed hours every day. He has to leave home at ten or eleven and return at four at college, however, the hours of attendance very. Sometimes, a college student has hardly time in the morning to gulp his food; at others, he has enough time to lounge about for a few minutes after a leisurely meal. On some days he returns early from college; or others, it is late evening by the time he gets back home. He has ample time at his disposal to use, abuse, or misuse. At school the student has to prepare his daily lessons and may be taken to task for what he has left undone. But at college he can do his lessons daily, or not...show more content... At school, students acquire habits of discipline and regularity. They have to practice obedience and follow instruction. But at college students are expected to develop a sense of responsibility and personal initiative. In other words, what a school student has to do under com–pulsing is done by the college students out of his greater sense of responsibility. Of course it has to be admitted that college life offers greater scope to a student to go astray. It he takes himself light–heartedly, he will have to suffer. It he allows arrears of studies to accumulate he will pay the price with failure and disgrace. Struggles of College Students Alexa Ferris English 102 Ms. Jones April 10, 2012 Struggles of College Students A college student taking their first few steps onto a college campus is the day when they can finally feel the independence they were longing for. College is a place where students can find themselves. It can be a place for success as well as a place for partying. Attending college comes with many struggles. College tests every individual by staying above the influence, becoming a more organized student, and even making them step out of their comfort zone. When a student enters the college world, they are faced with the struggle of peer pressure. This pressure may include alcohol and drug abuse. Staying above the influence is hard to do when pressured into...show more content... Waking up on time for class goes along with getting enough sleep. Students should time when they need to wake up for class and set an accurate alarm to wake them up. Staying organized also involves avoiding clutter. Many students will stack all of their papers together keeping them unorganized. This can cause many problems when studying for the final exam. To keep organized while studying, a student should have a quiet place to study. It would make it easier if a student had folders separating homework and notes for each of their classes. Having one's notes organized makes study time a lot smoother and less stressful. "...You also have to study 26 hours a week, according to professors. Or else you'll flunk out" (Silver). Studying is very important in college. College is a whole new world compared to high school," Alana Gardner from Indiana University confessed, "I used to study half an hour for test in high school. Omigosh I'm literally insane, you have to study at least two hours for a test in college!" (Silver). When a student enters the college world, it makes him/her nervous and excited for what is about to come into their lives. When going to college, many students go to a college a few hours away from their hometown. This can be hard to break away from one who had lived with their parents through high school, but can also be a great opportunity for independence. Many students who go to a college that is Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Essay on Dorm Life Dorm Life College can be great; living with your roommates can be a nightmare. But wait......before you throw in the towel, make sure you know and understand the rules of a dorm room. Dorm life is something almost every college student must experience. It's not as easy as it seems either. Most of the time students will try to room with people they know, but normally a student can't be that lucky to make that happen. It can actually be easier living with people who are complete strangers, than living with people that have been there through life. The first thing to accomplish is knowing the fact that in a dorm room, everyone has a job. Everyone in the room must provide certain things. For example, one should bring the...show more content... You have something important you want to say, and you assume they'll listen." Being inconsiderate with one another is something else many roommates have problems with. Classes are at different times, so waking up to get ready for class with occur at different times as well. Aroommate may get to sleep longer than another roommate. So if there were another room, to not make problems, it would be best to get ready where the other roommates can't be disturbed. Slamming things around, and being loud in general is neither considerate nor respectful of the other people living there. Problems will more than likely occur and living together will be much harder. Every College student should know, you must be considerate with one another or else your living situations are going to have a downslide. You can't take for granted that your roommate, or anyone else, will know what you want or do what you think they should. People aren't mind readers. • 14. My College Experience Essay examples My College Experience Throughout my lifetime I have listened to people reflect back on their college experiences and explain how college is supposed to be "the best experience of your life." The summer after my senior year I use to try and imagine what my first semester was going to be like based on what I had heard people talk about in the past. After my first semester at NC State I realized that I couldn't fully understand what college was like until I experienced it for myself. My first couple of weeks at Ohio State was rough and really tested my strength (mental and physical). I faced challenges and obstacles that I had never heard about in those past college experience conversations. All of a sudden there was no one to get me out of...show more content... In high school the teacher would constantly remind the students when certain assignments were due, but this was not the case in college. I learned that the hard way my first semester. Sometimes I forgot to turn in an assignment because I didn't properly read my syllabus and my professor never mentioned it. These were all new problems that could have easily let escalate without taking the proper actions. For the most part I was doing fairly well but a few of my grades began to plummet. I was losing the confidence in myself and started to wonder if going to college had been the best decision. The time had come for me to grow up and become an adult even I didn't feel the time was right. I immediately began attending tutoring sessions, working with peers and also keeping a daily to–do list. These factors were the eventually led to drastic improvement and success. After my first semester I learned how better manage my time, take advantage of campus resources and also how to organize myself better. These struggles also taught me that sometimes I try and rush through things instead of taking my time. I realized that one of my strong points is being able to really do well when my back is against the wall. Although I was unhappy while facing obstacles I am happy I experienced them. I believe this experience was the reason for my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Preparing for College Preparing For College It is the dream of everyone to join college with the hope of getting a better tomorrow and a foundation for them to make it in life. However, this may not be the case with some students as this dream may turn into a nightmare. This is because many students fail to go through or others even fail simply because they have not prepared enough; not just academically but also on the personal side. Many college students lack vision, they still have not found their purpose to be in school. A vision in this case is supposed to be kind of a "plan" for their college life. It is meant to guide them and help them achieve the sole purpose for joining college and pursue careers of their dream .When they lack goals, it is then that they are drowned into peer vices such as substance abuse and they end up ruining not only education life but also their future. It would be advisable for higher learning institutions to encourage freshmen students as they join college to develop goals. Another symptom of inadequate preparation is lack of motivation. When a college student lacks motivation, it is obvious that what follows is loss of desire to attend classes. This is followed by frequent absenteeism and poor grades will be the final outcome. Laziness and failure to complete and submit assignments on time is also caused by lack of motivation. Motivation is what a student entirely relies upon since it is what fuels him or her towards the journey of success. It is what Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. The Realities of College Life Essay As I graduated high school, I thought college would just be yet another four years of high school, and I was wrong. College opens many new doors in a young man or woman's life. There are new responsibilities and pressures that you will have to deal with, and with more freedom these responsibilities and pressures can be difficult to handle. College has changed a great deal over the years and these changes, such as more freedoms, make college a much more challenging experience. You need to start preparing for college now by making yourself more responsible and having more self–control. Zinsser believes that students need to stop worrying so much about the pay of their jobs. He wants students to study the subject that interests them, not which career pays the most. There is definitely one unifying aspect that is the same between college now and then and that is there are pressures. In college life, students face many pressures. One of my biggest stressors was keeping my student scholarship. After coming in to college with a 3.3 grade point average, I knew that keeping a 3.0 in college, for my scholarship, was going to be a challenge that I had not yet experienced. This caused me to work even harder and sometimes even too hard. The scholarship played a large factor in choosing Baldwin Wallace as my school of choice, so retaining my reward is of the utmost importance to both me personally, and my parents financially. As I began classes I realized that the work load seemed a lot larger than high school, and sometimes as if it were never going to end. I soon realized how to balance my time between school work and making grades, as well as meeting new people and having fun. There are many enjoyable things that make college the great experience it has been so far, so finding an equilibrium of hard work and good times has been one the best new attributes I have Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Reflection Of My College Experience This course like my entire first semester of university have provided me with both many challenges as well as taught me many lessons not only for my university career, but for the rest of my life. As I reflect back on the semester, I recall telling myself at least once a week that I wanted to drop out of school, followed by many breakdowns, crying fits and calling defeat. The past few months, haven't been at all easy for me, I have thought many times I wasn't intelligent enough to be in university, I was disappointed with some of the grades I received and I was constantly engulfed in a swarm of stress. Despite all these tough times, I have had many good one's as well, I have made new friends which are now integral to my everyday life and I have enhanced my knowledge to a new degree. Some of the many lessons that I've already learned in my short university experience include how to manage my time, the importance of meeting deadlines as well as the continuous struggle of balancing the various different facets of life. A range of different and useful topics have been discussed since the start of Pathways to lifelong learning, some of which I found to be of particular help. The college expectations which we learned towards the beginning of the course was especially helpful to learning how to become a critical thinker, something that was not very touched upon throughout my time in high school. I now use Bloom's Taxonomy when beginning to prepare for an important paper or presentation. In addition to the first chapter, I had also found great help in the second chapter on the skills needed to succeed in school. In the past, I used rehearsal as my main strategy to memorize for any upcoming tests or exams, however that often resulted in either retrieval failure or ineffective encoding. I now use chunking and elaboration as my main strategies to studying as I find it most effective when studying and retrieving information, especially when I am needing to memorize and learn a big amount of material. Now that I have completed Pathways to lifelong learning, I have come to realize that the extreme stress I endured as mentioned earlier was due to my poor time management skills as well as my poor stress management. • 19. My Most Memorable Experience In College My first semester here at Albright College is definitely one that I'm going to remember. Although it has gone by way too fast, a lot of hilarious and great memories were made, mostly with the people who are in my First Year Seminar class/POP group. Not only did I make amazing memories, but I have also changed a bit and even learned more about myself. In addition, I have made quite a few accomplishments, personal and academic since my midterm reflection. In the beginning of the semester, I came up with a long–term goal which was partially completed throughout the semester. My most memorable experience this semester would have to be POPs weekend because that is the reason Kaitlyn and I have become so close, as well as Brian and Patinno....show more content... I have learned things about myself along with things in general. When I was living at home, my mom likes to have things done her way. As a result of this somewhat stubborn trait, which I obtained from her, she wouldn't let me do my laundry because she thought I would ruin the washer or something, I don't even know. Therefore, I learned how to do my own laundry since living on my own, which really isn't difficult at all. Something surprising I learned about myself is that I'm not as shy as I always thought I was. It used to be hard for me to open up and make many friends when I was younger. But now, I made several friends the first weekend here, thanks to POPs. I have had a couple of successes during this semester, personal and academic. I remember getting a low grade on my first chemistry exam this semester, and I stated in my midterm reflection that a goal I had was to get better grades on the next chemistry exams. Luckily and to my surprise, I got fairly high scores on the last two tests. During POPs weekends, everyone had to write down a first semester personal goal and put them in an envelope. I don't remember too well, but I'm almost positive that I wrote down that my goal was to make good friends during the course of the semester. Fortunately, I accomplished this goal and made very good friends with some the very first people I met on welcoming weekend. For my midterm reflection Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Personal Experience: College Life College was very much a paradox for me. College was the most challenging experiences in my life, and yet one of the best experiences I have ever had. During my undergraduate years, I met new people, took exciting courses, and learned to live without the daily guidance of my parents. And most of all, I was able to learn more about myself. After my first year, the pressure of living on campus, friends, and classes began to take a toll on me. I began to fall apart. I worked two jobs to support myself, knowing that I could not ask my parents frequently for money due to their own financial burdens at home. I had to constantly deal with the upheaval from my relationships with roommates, friends, and family. I began dealing with anxiety, and my confidence level dropped considerably. My schoolwork began to suffer, and I began to withdraw from my friends and family. There were times when I cried almost every day and felt as though I could not carry on. The hardest part of all of this was putting on a faГ§ade for the people around me as though everything was perfectly okay. I still wanted people to see my as the happy, smiling person that was always in a good mood. Seeing that my grades had plummeted and realizing that I was going through a depressed time in my life, made me take a stand to make changes in my life. I knew I could not sit around dwelling in my despair while life passed me by.
