Student Reflection Essay
I didn't know what to expect on my first day of English 202. I had no idea what English 202 meant or what exactly I would be doing in the class. I
quickly learned and began to understand what being an English major was all about. In my fall English 202 class, I did well with inward–looking
theories and discovered that was my preferred way to approach a literary text, though I still enjoyed some out looking theories like psychoanalytic.
Going forward in my major I would like to work on my time management skills and applying the notes from the professor and TA to my paper. The
theory that I found worked for me the best was the discourse analysis theory. When I first heard about this theory I didn't think it would work for me
because I never felt like grammar was one of my strong suits. Though when we started learning more about the theory I began to understand it more.
The part of the theory I enjoyed the most was that I didn't have to look for outside sources when reading the poem. All of the information I needed
was already there in the text. Some people find this constraining, but I like that the only thing we have to work with is the poem itself. Another thing I
enjoyed about this theory was that it felt like the information you were using was more concrete because it was right there in the poem. What I mean
by that is with outward theories it felt like everything was very abstract and up for interpretation. I like that with inward theories everything is a

Reflective Essay About Geography
Every other year at my high school, there is a CIS geography course offered. In this course, there is one assignment that all the upperclassmen would
always complain about. As an underclassman, I had dreaded the year that I was going to be receiving this assignment due to having a tendency to save
my projects for last minute. I will never forget the map that taught me that procrastination makes the process of completing assignments more difficult,
especially on a project that is for a college class.
In the beginning of November 2016, my junior year, our college geography class received our quarter project: a map of the world. Our teacher
assigned our class a large number of physical features that our maps needed to include such as rivers, lakes, islands, mountain ranges, seas, oceans,
etc. The teacher required us to include all seven continents and a key that showed distinctions in the different physical features of the world. Our
maps needed to be to scale and show the least amount of distortion as possible. When we received our project, our geography teacher warned us, "This
project will be time–consuming. You will not want to wait until the week before to start your maps."
After communicating expectations with the class, a majority of my classmates began to work on their maps. I knew that my family was traveling to
Wisconsin Dells for Thanksgiving break, so I wanted to attempt to complete as much of the map as possible beforehand; this did not happen. I had

Reflection On Creative Thinking
The purpose of this activity was to serve as a first day get–to–know–you exercise that would integrate math skills that the students already know into
creative thinking about how they can apply those skills. The students have an opportunity to open up about defining information that they normally
might not, given the restraint that it has to be quantitative. It also allows them to experience an aspect of math that they may not have considered
before: exploration. It gets them to use backwards thinking to solidify their grasp on basic operations, order of operations, and fractions by
implementing SMPs #2, #4, and #7. The lesson was an overall success in the classroom, and although not everything went according to plan, I think the
adjustments that need to be made are clear upon reflection. The main concept from our Foundations class that I utilized was student centered learning,
which showed itself in a number of ways. A large amount of the work was up to the students to figure out after my brief and minimal example
walkthrough. It was important for this task in particular that I didn't push them too much in any direction, as it would taint the creative process that was
such a central element. It also meant frequent data collection and check–ins to make sure that the students had clear instruction and that they were
sharing their ideas with their classmates. Finally, I used student centered learning in the scaffolding of the entire task by breaking it into steps that

Reflective essay
I have a good understanding about Human Resource Management. Going through human resource management has taught me so much more than stuff
about how the working companies deal with their success in employing the right person for the right job. I have learned here how to write and express
myself, how to think for myself, and how to find the answers to the things that I don't know. Most importantly I have learned how important wider

These are the things that I have worked on and improved over the past couple of weeks and I feel that my work shows this.
During my HRM I did learn a lot of theory related to people on how they cope up with their daily lives and their work. The seminars that I have
attended the past couple of weeks have really helped me in writing and presenting what I learnt with better ideas. I have learned how to write various
understandings of humanity in different forms and different fields. I feel confident that I could talk and write about resourcing about any particular
company without hesitating or not believing my thoughts.
There are a couple of things that I do feel I lack the confidence and skill to perform, and that is what I hope to gain from participating in presentations.
I am scared to present because I don't know how to share my knowledge with others–students who may have no idea what I am talking about (Lecture
9, Group And Teamworking, 06/12/2011). I hope to learn more about how teachers share their knowledge as part of my own understandings.
To summarize I feel that I have grown theoretically over the course of my undergrad; I realize that I have only scratched the surface. I have so much
still to learn and being involved at so many different levels provides me with endless opportunities to continue to grow. I believe that this growth will

Assessment at the team level considers team communications, dynamics, and ability to reach consensus as meetings. For that matter, the amount of
work completed and the cycle time for the entire process are evaluated as part of the assessment exercise. On the other hand, assessment at the
individual team member level considers how the individual cooperates with other team members, communicates his or her ideas and opinions, and
participates in team activities. In this case, the number of viable ideas that the individual presented is determined, accuracy considered, and
turn–around time for completion of a unit of work factored. Thus, I learnt that team analysis can be conducted from the team or individual member
perspective. The knowledge I acquired from this module will stand me in good stead with the six–week practice placement when I will be required to
work within teams (Peacock 2006). In addition, the course material and modules have allowed me to adjust the various aspects of my professional
practice for the best outcomes. In fact, I have applied the course material to adjust my patient care plans with the result that I now appreciate the
different treatment and prescriptive therapies, and the legal implications for more awareness and understanding. Besides that, my interest in the course
has allowed me to prioritize with the intention of achieving a good grade. In essence, I have gained the ability to better balance what the patient needs

Reflection Of A Reflection On Academic Skills
REFLECTION–ACADEMIC SKILLS
When the word reflection is mentioned, the first thought is a mirror like image of yourself. This is to define your own perception of the good and bad
quality within yourself. Taking action of the weaknesses and developing my skills to improve myself around everyone, (Stadter, 2015).
Gibbs Reflective Cycle (1988), a framework for students to resolve problems in assignments, step by step, I will reflect on my own problems, (UK
Essays, 2013). My previous goal was to study in a university and now that I have accomplished that goal, my next goal is to complete the course with

Implementing Dewey 's theory in to my assignment, assisting my understanding on how to support ideas with evidence such as deciding whether I
have included all the information needed, the author/publisher or whether I have referenced continuously throughout the assignments. When previously
writing assignments I need to consider how well it was written, learning from the mistakes, understanding the feedbacks and setting out times to do
better next time (Percival 2006). While referencing is a struggle for me to use, Kell and Vogl (2010) stated that overcoming referencing can be done by
reading different books, journals and articles of interest.
After analyzing the problem, I realised I try to be a perfectionist, causing a hindrance in producing assignments. I need to start believing in myself a
lot more and be more inspired, as Percival, (2006) has mentioned that "being too sensitive will block your progress", by doing time–bound goals and
starting the assignment rather than thinking about the end product. Percival (2006),has also stated putting our energy into the solution rather than the
problem will be an advantage to our mindset. Realisation of putting a pen to the paper to start, a draft can be perfected as time goes on, mending the
structure to the standard required till the

Reflection On Personal Growth
Personal Growth Reflection This course was enlightening, it helped me to open my eyes to new issues of concern in my community and our culture
and it addressed large issues that specifically affected the quality of education starting with the quality of teachers. The class allowed me to step out of
my comfort zone and to see things from other perspectives while challenging me to consider different concepts and new ways of thinking. I learned to
look at things from the larger picture, both Macro and Micro levels of an issue and to consider all factors that influence or affects a situation or a
person. After taking the class my perspective on many issues has changed due to the information that I was presented with that suggested that my view
was incorrect and in a few cases biased. I am happy that I took this course and I found it to be very intriguing, it has pointed me in the right direction
and brought me closer to becoming culturally competent. Early on in the course we were introduced to common myths, misconceptions, and
stereotypes when it relates to one's race, ethnicity, or culture, more specifically those regarding Immigrants. The "Myths and facts about immigrants"
assignment provided a lot of valuable information about misconceptions and racial prejudice that our culture has accepted as facts, which negatively
affects individuals of the Latino community. After completing the assignment, I realized that this was a much larger issue than I had originally thought

CW1: Reflection on previous learning experiences in preparation for Higher Education
This essay discusses the journey of my previous educational experiences, lessons learned from the past and further reflections on how to approach
future challenges and expectations of a university course. Altbach, P. G., Gumport, P. J. & Berdahl, R. O. (Eds.). (2011) explained that highereducation
always brings considerable challenges for new students in becoming knowledgeable and triumph over the barriers that may impact on learning.
University course requires a student to be self–motivated, challenging, capable, concerned, active, energetic and vibrant. Maintaining the balance in
learning and nourishing in university is the beginning of the journey of a new student in higher education.
My journey into higher education began when I was inspired by my previous education and supportive tutors. My previous education enabled me to
recognise as a student the importance of investing passion and time in gaining knowledge and developing future, which was the mechanism to initiate
the journey to return this specific confidence and guidance within higher education. My previous educational experiences enhanced various capabilities
within myself such as: learning, supporting other students, research involvement, gaining maximum knowledge and maintaining practice. Initially, I
found it quite difficult to absorb knowledge and be competent in all aspects while also adjusting to academic environment.

High School Reflection Essay
After reading my first reflection, I realize I was very hopeful about high school in the beginning of the year. However, now I have mixed feelings
about high school, since my first year did not go as I had anticipated. My first reflection mentioned how I thought the first month of high school was
quite unexpected. Little did I know how unexpected ninth grade would turn out. I could never have imagined what would happen to me this year.
Certain aspects were thrilling, exciting, hilarious; however, other aspects were depressing, anxiety–inducing, and highly stressful. I was incredibly
naive and starry–eyed in the beginning of the year. However, I feel as if I am now an experienced adult looking down upon a young, innocent child,
while secretly knowing that my younger self has yet to face the brutal, harsh, and unforgiving world. Nonetheless, there is always a wiser, more
experienced elder looking down upon me.
In the beginning of the year, I desperately wanted to quit my procrastination habit. However, my September self would be incredibly disappointed
with my current self. This year I have procrastinated as if I had never procrastinated before. I have stayed up well past midnight finishing up
homework, projects, and essays. I would think my sleep–deprived brain would have learned its lesson, but I continue to find myself frequently going
off on YouTube binges instead of doing my homework, like this reflection. At least I discovered I could write a mediocre essay in a single day.
However, I have come to accept this habit will probably never vanish. Although my habit will be the death of me in my high school future, I am hopeful
my procrastination will somehow benefit me in the future.
Looking back upon my ninth grade year, I have developed and grown as a person, however, not in the way I typically would have predicted. For
instance, when I usually review my essays from the beginning of the year, I typically see obvious improvements in my writing. However, my writing
improvements this year have been noticeably more subtle. I have learned minor aspects, such as reformatting my thesis, removing "ctrl f" words, and
integrating my quotes better help to improve my writing as a whole. Furthermore, being forced to

Finally, I would like to share my philosophy of Christian higher education. I believe any philosophy of Christian higher education must start with the
affirmation that all wisdom and knowledge come from God (Proverbs 2:6), and all academic disciplines owe their existence to the wisdom and
knowledge that precede from Him and His Word. Following the pattern of Colossians 3:17, students, faculty, administrators, and staff should be
encouraged to view their studies and work as an act of devotion and worship. Viewing our studies and work as worship should compel us to strive for
excellence in all we do, so that we give our best to God. At the end of their career at a Christian institution, students should have a stronger, more mature
faith and

Growing Words In high school my essays were about summarizing a chapter from a book or writing a short story. There was no set length it had to
be and there were not any specifics to focus on such as to focus on a strong introduction or to focus on being organized when writing. The essays that
I wrote in high school were just for a quick grade or to help out our grade. I did not really have that much experience in writing essays. In the past
semester I have grown more as a writer than I have in the past years. My essays have been becoming more detailed and less vague. They are
maturing to the standard set for my level of English. Thus far, in English 101, my writing has improved by composing different types of essays, using

It made me cite the sources using the Modern Language Association format. And the last sort ofessay was a reflection essay, in which I looked back at
the semester to see how I have grown as a writer in certain areas, also to see how I can improve in the future as a writer. My skills on using various
writing techniques were improved this semester. The course taught me the difference in summarizing and paraphrasing. Summarizing is pulling
out the main points of something a person has read, and it should not be as long as the thing is being summarized. Paraphrasing requires reading a
sentence or paragraph at a time and making it into thier own words, and by doing so changing more than just a word or two. If only a word or two
is changed that is called plagiarism, taking credit in which the work is not really theirs. I was also taught to use ethos, pathos, and logos in my
writing. I remember in class we had to tell how our clothes reflective ethos, pathos, and logos. It really stuck with me the difference in the three and
why and how I should use them in my writing. The ethos would give me creditability that I am a believable writer, the pathos would help give
emotion and personation in my work, and the logos would contribute facts and informative things. I was well educated in forming a higher quality of
an essay. The essay should be organized in a formally manner that flows well. The

When working at Wade King in Mr. Denton's fourth grade classroom, I found that the students were very excited to have Nicole and me as guest
teachers for their math hour. I had never worked with fourth grade students before, so their warm and inviting attitudes help calm my nerves. The
lessons went well and I was surprised by some of the students' connections that they had made throughout our lessons. For example, there were several
students that would bring up things that we hadn't talked about yet, but we were going to at the end of the lesson. Like the connection that certain
fractions were larger than other fractions and this connection tied into the end of the lesson where we would place fractions on a number line by
smallest to largest. It was so exciting to see students making these connections on their own and understanding the content that was being taught. I also
felt like I was able to support the students very well when they had questions or difficulty with the lesson. I must admit, I was intimidated by the new
fancy school and the fact that the students knew Chinese! Also, never having worked with fourth graders before, I didn't know what to expect or if I
was truly prepared. Then we began teaching and the students had questions that I could confidently answer! Everything that I had learned paid off and
it was such a good feeling to be able to support students learning. Something else that went well was teaching to Bridges. Bridges is so easy to follow

High School Reflection Essay
Have you ever just felt like high school was too easy? Well I have because I felt like the teachers just passed you on. They didn't give me a challenge
like I was supposed to have and from that being, now I have to prepare myself for the college life and teach myself the things I was supposed to be
taught in high school. The school I came from didn't have a math teacher or a history teacher all year so we just sat in the class rooms and played
everyday all day and I still ended up passing and that school was Albany Early College. They told me that I would finish high school with an associate
degree but all I got was a discombobulated school and an uncontrolled school. The next school I went to didn't care either. They showed me that I can
skip class everyday and still pass with an A average. Despite all the things I didn't get taught in high school, I did learn some unique aspects that I can
reflect on and use for college. The skills I reflect on are annotating, using the Cornell note–taking system, and how to be on time for school.
To begin with, the first aspect I reflect on from high school is annotating. Annotating helped me a lot when I was taking final exams and other test.
This is one of the most I reflect on because I can use this skill to help me in college. I first learned how to annotate in the 11th grade when I was at
Monroe Comprehensive High School. The way my teacher showed me how to annotate was to number the paragraphs then summarize the
paragraphs individually, after doing that it helped me understand the passage better as if it was hard to comprehend. My teacher also told me to
underline any sentences that look interesting to me and circle any words that I am not familiar with and go and look them up after I was done. But
you don't just annotate and be done, but you have to go back and study what you annotated so you can get a full understanding of whatever you're
annotating. Annotating is a big skill that I was taught because I can use it in other subjects other than English such as: History, Science, and other
classes, but I can't annotate the same way in every subject. For example: If I annotate math the same way I do in History then my notes would be
messed up because I am learning two

My first recollection of paid employment was as a paperboy. I recall riding my bike in my neighborhood lobbing paper after paper. I was employed
as a camp counselor during the summers of high school. My work experiences paled in comparison to my peers, as I was immersed in athletics,
specifically soccer. In retrospect I regret rejecting the notion of pursuing diverse forms of employment during adolescents, as I feel I would have
established a positive work identity. College permitted new work opportunities. I played soccer at UNC Charlotte, subsequently the NCAA limited the

Previously, I attended catholic elementary school, then to public middle and high school. New York State public schooling left a lot to be desired, in
my opinion. My high school years offer credence to numerous conventional New York schooling conventions. My high school student population

might imagine, I was eager to venture to college in North Carolina. I pursued a dual degree in Health Fitness & Kinesiology and Communication
Studies. Upon graduating, I focused on finding employment in the health field. Soon, I realized there was little opportunity in the field. Several of
my fellow graduates chased personal training certification or moved to careers such as nursing or physical therapy. At this point I was lost. I found a
job, with the aid of a friend, selling payroll. My employment lasted only six months. I am grateful for said experience, without it I doubt I would have

Reflective Essay On Interdisciplinary Studies
Reflective Essay From this journey of interdisciplinary studies that I have embarked on I am at the beginning phases with this introductory course. I
have crossed the stage of glossary terms and figuring out how to apply them to real life scenarios. I feel that the most eye–opening chapter for me was
Chapter 3, which covered the "Cognitive Toolkit" that is the part of the course where I knew the concepts were coming together for me. Expressing
what interdisciplinary studies means to me, how important integration is, and how my views have change and will change in the future has been
fulfilling. Interdisciplinary studies is a cognitive process by which individuals or groups draw on disciplinary perspectives and integrate their insights
and modes of thinking to advance their understanding of a complex problem with the goal of applying the understanding to a real world problem
(Refko, Szostak, & Buchberger, 2014). It is a process of drawing on more than one discipline's unique view of reality, using advanced understanding,
and being able to tackle a complex problem or question through the integration of insights. Interdisciplinary work is a means to achieve an outcome that
can assume and abstract or...show more content...
The new understanding is the result of the integrative process. The purpose of interdisciplinary studies is not to choose one disciplinary concept but to
achieve a deeper understanding of the problem by integrating the best features of competing theories. It is the ability to take portions of different
perspectives and creating a synthesized third perspective or concept. Integration is at the core of the interdisciplinary process and is reached by
blending concepts. Without integration, interdisciplinarity would not be

As my Writing 39C course comes to a close, now is a great time to look at the journey I have taken to get here. I'll start with my high school
experience with writing. Although, I wasn't a terrible writer, I didn't strive to be the best writer I could be. Although I had a decent writing skill,
enough to pass the AP English exam at least, I never really pushed my writing abilities to anything beyond the minimum amount needed to pass
with a decent grade. Once I got to college, however, writing was a different story. When I came into Writing 39B, I felt it would be something
similar to my experiences in my high school AP English classes. Do the assignments with a minimal amount of work in order to get a decent
grade, and just pass the class. However, as the course proceeded, I learned that I actually needed to make an effort to apply skill to my writing in
order to do well. This was the first time I actually had to rigorously challenge my current skills in order to improve. As 39B came to a close, I felt
that I had actually improved my composition skill. Writing 39C was now where I solidified and revised some of the techniques I learned in 39B,
broke some bad habits, and worked to understand my style of writing. Working through the Historical Conservation Project (HCP) and Advocacy
Project (AP), I have pushed myself to improve my writing skill. Although I have learned a lot throughout this quarters here at UCI, I want to emphasize
three main areas that I have made great strides in: research, drafting, and revision.
Research
I came into Writing 39C with some formal lessons on how to research, mainly from high school. However, since I was taught those lessons years
ago, I came into Writing 39C with a clear head. My primary research focus throughout the quarter was on copyright law and how the current law is
out of touch with the Internet age. I got this idea from a course I took in the previous quarter. The course was on cyberspeech and gaming, with a
focus on obscenity laws and, the thing I found most interesting, copyright and fair use. Given my interest in the topic and slight familiarity, I chose to
tackle the problem of copyright law and fair use. Starting my research, I immediately went to

Reflection Of Higher Education
An intersectional reflection of my dichotomous relationship with higher education is what fuels my desire to pursue a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership
and Policy Analysis. As a first–generation college student, earning a Bachelor's and Master's degrees profoundly altered the trajectory of my family
out of years of generational poverty. As a result of embracing highereducation, I possess the ability to think critically and creatively, with a passion
and hunger for lifelong learning. Contrarily, the experience also left some biological, psychological, and social scarring. Macroaggressions, tokenism,
and implicit bias have all contributed to the way that I now live, learn, and work in the world. While these experiences did not prevent the completion
of my education, it has led others to abandon the pursuit, and certainly presents an enigma to many colleges and universities around the country eager
to recruit and retain scholars that identify as Black/African–American, first–generation, and/or low socioeconomic status. The majority of my
professional experience revolves around this very conundrum and the time has now come to pursue extensive and original research in this chosen field.
My work in student affairs provides significant opportunity to contemplate, implement and assess initiatives related to student success and retention.
My current research is connected to peer education and the 1st year experience and I have active and growing experience in the needs assessment and

Reflective Essay On Self Presentation
This photograph is a self before work taken several months ago. My job requires professional attire. My self–presentation being presented within this
photography is to convey a message of professionalism when at work. At work, I must conduct myself in a manner that I wouldn't normally on a day
to day basis. My self–presentational motivations for my appearance and behavior are heavily influenced by the evaluative presence and judgement of
others. In this particular role, I have to reflect myself in a manner that would be pleasing to the audience as suggested by Baumeister. I had to match
my own self presentation as a knowledgeable and professional worker to my patient's and boss to meet their expectations and preferences. I am also the
most professionally dressed in this picture which ties into the idea that audience pleasing self–presentational motivations vary in strength depending on
the power and importance of the audience. This photo also incorporates my self–monitoring efforts, in which my role at work requires me to constantly
adjust my performance depending on what impressions I am trying to make.
This photograph is a picture that was taken in the comfort of my dorm room and was sent to friends on the social media app know as snapchat. My
self–presentation within this photograph differs drastically to the photo above. This photo reflects some of my true behaviors that aren't influenced
greatly by the presence of others. Though my self–presentation was not heavily influenced by the presence of other there still was a slight amount of
consideration of judgment from others when this photo was taken. This photo was sent to some of my closes friends and not posted to my story for
everyone to view. Which suggests slight caution in regards to myimpression management. This photo was also not posted on my other social media
sites, in which I portray myself in a more professional manner due to certain follows on my other social media sites who are professionals. In this
photograph, I was participating in an alternative spring break trip to Sneedville, Tennessee. My self–presentation as far as my physical appearance is
casual for the environment I was working in. There were many situational factors

Especially, since I participated in Gateway as an incoming freshman, and I know how much the Gateway program positively impacted my decision
to attend Virginia Tech. In the Fall of 2016 I hope to become involved with the Fall Visitation program as well as the Yates Ambassador program.
Each of these programs has played a pivotal role for in me choosing Tech. I hope that I can be afforded the opportunity to receive acceptance to the

Student Reflection Essay

  • 1. Student Reflection Essay I didn't know what to expect on my first day of English 202. I had no idea what English 202 meant or what exactly I would be doing in the class. I quickly learned and began to understand what being an English major was all about. In my fall English 202 class, I did well with inward–looking theories and discovered that was my preferred way to approach a literary text, though I still enjoyed some out looking theories like psychoanalytic. Going forward in my major I would like to work on my time management skills and applying the notes from the professor and TA to my paper. The theory that I found worked for me the best was the discourse analysis theory. When I first heard about this theory I didn't think it would work for me because I never felt like grammar was one of my strong suits. Though when we started learning more about the theory I began to understand it more. The part of the theory I enjoyed the most was that I didn't have to look for outside sources when reading the poem. All of the information I needed was already there in the text. Some people find this constraining, but I like that the only thing we have to work with is the poem itself. Another thing I enjoyed about this theory was that it felt like the information you were using was more concrete because it was right there in the poem. What I mean by that is with outward theories it felt like everything was very abstract and up for interpretation. I like that with inward theories everything is a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Reflective Essay About Geography Every other year at my high school, there is a CIS geography course offered. In this course, there is one assignment that all the upperclassmen would always complain about. As an underclassman, I had dreaded the year that I was going to be receiving this assignment due to having a tendency to save my projects for last minute. I will never forget the map that taught me that procrastination makes the process of completing assignments more difficult, especially on a project that is for a college class. In the beginning of November 2016, my junior year, our college geography class received our quarter project: a map of the world. Our teacher assigned our class a large number of physical features that our maps needed to include such as rivers, lakes, islands, mountain ranges, seas, oceans, etc. The teacher required us to include all seven continents and a key that showed distinctions in the different physical features of the world. Our maps needed to be to scale and show the least amount of distortion as possible. When we received our project, our geography teacher warned us, "This project will be time–consuming. You will not want to wait until the week before to start your maps." After communicating expectations with the class, a majority of my classmates began to work on their maps. I knew that my family was traveling to Wisconsin Dells for Thanksgiving break, so I wanted to attempt to complete as much of the map as possible beforehand; this did not happen. I had finished Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Reflection On Creative Thinking The purpose of this activity was to serve as a first day get–to–know–you exercise that would integrate math skills that the students already know into creative thinking about how they can apply those skills. The students have an opportunity to open up about defining information that they normally might not, given the restraint that it has to be quantitative. It also allows them to experience an aspect of math that they may not have considered before: exploration. It gets them to use backwards thinking to solidify their grasp on basic operations, order of operations, and fractions by implementing SMPs #2, #4, and #7. The lesson was an overall success in the classroom, and although not everything went according to plan, I think the adjustments that need to be made are clear upon reflection. The main concept from our Foundations class that I utilized was student centered learning, which showed itself in a number of ways. A large amount of the work was up to the students to figure out after my brief and minimal example walkthrough. It was important for this task in particular that I didn't push them too much in any direction, as it would taint the creative process that was such a central element. It also meant frequent data collection and check–ins to make sure that the students had clear instruction and that they were sharing their ideas with their classmates. Finally, I used student centered learning in the scaffolding of the entire task by breaking it into steps that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Hrm Reflective Essay Reflective Essay Human resource Management Module Code: HRM 1120 Module Title: People and Organisations Module Level: 1 Credit Points:30 Module Tutor: Dr Bruce Thompson Student Name: Navid Shah Student ID: M00384663 Submission Date: 05/03/2012 Reflective essay I have a good understanding about Human Resource Management. Going through human resource management has taught me so much more than stuff about how the working companies deal with their success in employing the right person for the right job. I have learned here how to write and express myself, how to think for myself, and how to find the answers to the things that I don't know. Most importantly I have learned how important wider world and the people...show more content... These are the things that I have worked on and improved over the past couple of weeks and I feel that my work shows this. During my HRM I did learn a lot of theory related to people on how they cope up with their daily lives and their work. The seminars that I have attended the past couple of weeks have really helped me in writing and presenting what I learnt with better ideas. I have learned how to write various understandings of humanity in different forms and different fields. I feel confident that I could talk and write about resourcing about any particular company without hesitating or not believing my thoughts. There are a couple of things that I do feel I lack the confidence and skill to perform, and that is what I hope to gain from participating in presentations. I am scared to present because I don't know how to share my knowledge with others–students who may have no idea what I am talking about (Lecture 9, Group And Teamworking, 06/12/2011). I hope to learn more about how teachers share their knowledge as part of my own understandings.
  • 5. To summarize I feel that I have grown theoretically over the course of my undergrad; I realize that I have only scratched the surface. • 6. Essential Skills Reflection Name Institution Essential Skills Reflection For a nurse, higher education at the University of West London (UWL) has offered me a broader knowledge base that I will be able to apply to improve nursing care outcomes concerning patient care, quality standards, and other nursing skills. In this respect, graduating from a nursing program will offer me the opportunity to be a better healthcare practitioner and work within teams for the best outcomes. In fact, the higher education knowledge base that I will acquire upon graduation will make me more attractive to employers. In this case, employers will trust me with more responsibilities since I will know more about the patients' overall conditions, work...show more content... Assessment at the team level considers team communications, dynamics, and ability to reach consensus as meetings. For that matter, the amount of work completed and the cycle time for the entire process are evaluated as part of the assessment exercise. On the other hand, assessment at the individual team member level considers how the individual cooperates with other team members, communicates his or her ideas and opinions, and participates in team activities. In this case, the number of viable ideas that the individual presented is determined, accuracy considered, and turn–around time for completion of a unit of work factored. Thus, I learnt that team analysis can be conducted from the team or individual member perspective. The knowledge I acquired from this module will stand me in good stead with the six–week practice placement when I will be required to work within teams (Peacock 2006). In addition, the course material and modules have allowed me to adjust the various aspects of my professional practice for the best outcomes. In fact, I have applied the course material to adjust my patient care plans with the result that I now appreciate the different treatment and prescriptive therapies, and the legal implications for more awareness and understanding. Besides that, my interest in the course has allowed me to prioritize with the intention of achieving a good grade. In essence, I have gained the ability to better balance what the patient needs with the legal Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Reflection Of A Reflection On Academic Skills REFLECTION–ACADEMIC SKILLS When the word reflection is mentioned, the first thought is a mirror like image of yourself. This is to define your own perception of the good and bad quality within yourself. Taking action of the weaknesses and developing my skills to improve myself around everyone, (Stadter, 2015). Gibbs Reflective Cycle (1988), a framework for students to resolve problems in assignments, step by step, I will reflect on my own problems, (UK Essays, 2013). My previous goal was to study in a university and now that I have accomplished that goal, my next goal is to complete the course with a good grade. But the reality of achieving the Foundation Degree is a much harder concept than what I first thought, having a writer 's...show more content... Implementing Dewey 's theory in to my assignment, assisting my understanding on how to support ideas with evidence such as deciding whether I have included all the information needed, the author/publisher or whether I have referenced continuously throughout the assignments. When previously writing assignments I need to consider how well it was written, learning from the mistakes, understanding the feedbacks and setting out times to do better next time (Percival 2006). While referencing is a struggle for me to use, Kell and Vogl (2010) stated that overcoming referencing can be done by reading different books, journals and articles of interest. After analyzing the problem, I realised I try to be a perfectionist, causing a hindrance in producing assignments. I need to start believing in myself a lot more and be more inspired, as Percival, (2006) has mentioned that "being too sensitive will block your progress", by doing time–bound goals and starting the assignment rather than thinking about the end product. Percival (2006),has also stated putting our energy into the solution rather than the problem will be an advantage to our mindset. Realisation of putting a pen to the paper to start, a draft can be perfected as time goes on, mending the structure to the standard required till the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Reflection On Personal Growth Personal Growth Reflection This course was enlightening, it helped me to open my eyes to new issues of concern in my community and our culture and it addressed large issues that specifically affected the quality of education starting with the quality of teachers. The class allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and to see things from other perspectives while challenging me to consider different concepts and new ways of thinking. I learned to look at things from the larger picture, both Macro and Micro levels of an issue and to consider all factors that influence or affects a situation or a person. After taking the class my perspective on many issues has changed due to the information that I was presented with that suggested that my view was incorrect and in a few cases biased. I am happy that I took this course and I found it to be very intriguing, it has pointed me in the right direction and brought me closer to becoming culturally competent. Early on in the course we were introduced to common myths, misconceptions, and stereotypes when it relates to one's race, ethnicity, or culture, more specifically those regarding Immigrants. The "Myths and facts about immigrants" assignment provided a lot of valuable information about misconceptions and racial prejudice that our culture has accepted as facts, which negatively affects individuals of the Latino community. After completing the assignment, I realized that this was a much larger issue than I had originally thought Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. CW1: Reflection on previous learning experiences in preparation for Higher Education This essay discusses the journey of my previous educational experiences, lessons learned from the past and further reflections on how to approach future challenges and expectations of a university course. Altbach, P. G., Gumport, P. J. & Berdahl, R. O. (Eds.). (2011) explained that highereducation always brings considerable challenges for new students in becoming knowledgeable and triumph over the barriers that may impact on learning. University course requires a student to be self–motivated, challenging, capable, concerned, active, energetic and vibrant. Maintaining the balance in learning and nourishing in university is the beginning of the journey of a new student in higher education. My journey into higher education began when I was inspired by my previous education and supportive tutors. My previous education enabled me to recognise as a student the importance of investing passion and time in gaining knowledge and developing future, which was the mechanism to initiate the journey to return this specific confidence and guidance within higher education. My previous educational experiences enhanced various capabilities within myself such as: learning, supporting other students, research involvement, gaining maximum knowledge and maintaining practice. Initially, I found it quite difficult to absorb knowledge and be competent in all aspects while also adjusting to academic environment. I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. High School Reflection Essay After reading my first reflection, I realize I was very hopeful about high school in the beginning of the year. However, now I have mixed feelings about high school, since my first year did not go as I had anticipated. My first reflection mentioned how I thought the first month of high school was quite unexpected. Little did I know how unexpected ninth grade would turn out. I could never have imagined what would happen to me this year. Certain aspects were thrilling, exciting, hilarious; however, other aspects were depressing, anxiety–inducing, and highly stressful. I was incredibly naive and starry–eyed in the beginning of the year. However, I feel as if I am now an experienced adult looking down upon a young, innocent child, while secretly knowing that my younger self has yet to face the brutal, harsh, and unforgiving world. Nonetheless, there is always a wiser, more experienced elder looking down upon me. In the beginning of the year, I desperately wanted to quit my procrastination habit. However, my September self would be incredibly disappointed with my current self. This year I have procrastinated as if I had never procrastinated before. I have stayed up well past midnight finishing up homework, projects, and essays. I would think my sleep–deprived brain would have learned its lesson, but I continue to find myself frequently going off on YouTube binges instead of doing my homework, like this reflection. At least I discovered I could write a mediocre essay in a single day. However, I have come to accept this habit will probably never vanish. Although my habit will be the death of me in my high school future, I am hopeful my procrastination will somehow benefit me in the future. Looking back upon my ninth grade year, I have developed and grown as a person, however, not in the way I typically would have predicted. For instance, when I usually review my essays from the beginning of the year, I typically see obvious improvements in my writing. However, my writing improvements this year have been noticeably more subtle. I have learned minor aspects, such as reformatting my thesis, removing "ctrl f" words, and integrating my quotes better help to improve my writing as a whole. Furthermore, being forced to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Finally, I would like to share my philosophy of Christian higher education. I believe any philosophy of Christian higher education must start with the affirmation that all wisdom and knowledge come from God (Proverbs 2:6), and all academic disciplines owe their existence to the wisdom and knowledge that precede from Him and His Word. Following the pattern of Colossians 3:17, students, faculty, administrators, and staff should be encouraged to view their studies and work as an act of devotion and worship. Viewing our studies and work as worship should compel us to strive for excellence in all we do, so that we give our best to God. At the end of their career at a Christian institution, students should have a stronger, more mature faith and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Reflective Essay Growing Words In high school my essays were about summarizing a chapter from a book or writing a short story. There was no set length it had to be and there were not any specifics to focus on such as to focus on a strong introduction or to focus on being organized when writing. The essays that I wrote in high school were just for a quick grade or to help out our grade. I did not really have that much experience in writing essays. In the past semester I have grown more as a writer than I have in the past years. My essays have been becoming more detailed and less vague. They are maturing to the standard set for my level of English. Thus far, in English 101, my writing has improved by composing different types of essays, using a variety of...show more content... It made me cite the sources using the Modern Language Association format. And the last sort ofessay was a reflection essay, in which I looked back at the semester to see how I have grown as a writer in certain areas, also to see how I can improve in the future as a writer. My skills on using various writing techniques were improved this semester. The course taught me the difference in summarizing and paraphrasing. Summarizing is pulling out the main points of something a person has read, and it should not be as long as the thing is being summarized. Paraphrasing requires reading a sentence or paragraph at a time and making it into thier own words, and by doing so changing more than just a word or two. If only a word or two is changed that is called plagiarism, taking credit in which the work is not really theirs. I was also taught to use ethos, pathos, and logos in my writing. I remember in class we had to tell how our clothes reflective ethos, pathos, and logos. It really stuck with me the difference in the three and why and how I should use them in my writing. The ethos would give me creditability that I am a believable writer, the pathos would help give emotion and personation in my work, and the logos would contribute facts and informative things. I was well educated in forming a higher quality of an essay. The essay should be organized in a formally manner that flows well. The Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. High School Reflection Essay When working at Wade King in Mr. Denton's fourth grade classroom, I found that the students were very excited to have Nicole and me as guest teachers for their math hour. I had never worked with fourth grade students before, so their warm and inviting attitudes help calm my nerves. The lessons went well and I was surprised by some of the students' connections that they had made throughout our lessons. For example, there were several students that would bring up things that we hadn't talked about yet, but we were going to at the end of the lesson. Like the connection that certain fractions were larger than other fractions and this connection tied into the end of the lesson where we would place fractions on a number line by smallest to largest. It was so exciting to see students making these connections on their own and understanding the content that was being taught. I also felt like I was able to support the students very well when they had questions or difficulty with the lesson. I must admit, I was intimidated by the new fancy school and the fact that the students knew Chinese! Also, never having worked with fourth graders before, I didn't know what to expect or if I was truly prepared. Then we began teaching and the students had questions that I could confidently answer! Everything that I had learned paid off and it was such a good feeling to be able to support students learning. Something else that went well was teaching to Bridges. Bridges is so easy to follow and the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. High School Reflection Essay Have you ever just felt like high school was too easy? Well I have because I felt like the teachers just passed you on. They didn't give me a challenge like I was supposed to have and from that being, now I have to prepare myself for the college life and teach myself the things I was supposed to be taught in high school. The school I came from didn't have a math teacher or a history teacher all year so we just sat in the class rooms and played everyday all day and I still ended up passing and that school was Albany Early College. They told me that I would finish high school with an associate degree but all I got was a discombobulated school and an uncontrolled school. The next school I went to didn't care either. They showed me that I can skip class everyday and still pass with an A average. Despite all the things I didn't get taught in high school, I did learn some unique aspects that I can reflect on and use for college. I first learned how to annotate in the 11th grade when I was at Monroe Comprehensive High School. The way my teacher showed me how to annotate was to number the paragraphs then summarize the paragraphs individually, after doing that it helped me understand the passage better as if it was hard to comprehend. My teacher also told me to underline any sentences that look interesting to me and circle any words that I am not familiar with and go and look them up after I was done. But you don't just annotate and be done, but you have to go back and study what you annotated so you can get a full understanding of whatever you're annotating. Annotating is a big skill that I was taught because I can use it in other subjects other than English such as: History, Science, and other classes, but I can't annotate the same way in every subject. For example: If I annotate math the same way I do in History then my notes would be messed up because I am learning two Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. My first recollection of paid employment was as a paperboy. I recall riding my bike in my neighborhood lobbing paper after paper. I was employed as a camp counselor during the summers of high school. My work experiences paled in comparison to my peers, as I was immersed in athletics, specifically soccer. In retrospect I regret rejecting the notion of pursuing diverse forms of employment during adolescents, as I feel I would have established a positive work identity. College permitted new work opportunities. I played soccer at UNC Charlotte, subsequently the NCAA limited the amount I was allowed to work. When allowed, I worked summer soccer camps while running in restaurant, valet, retail, and office work. My post graduate employment tends to get a bit blurred so it...show more content... Previously, I attended catholic elementary school, then to public middle and high school. New York State public schooling left a lot to be desired, in my opinion. My high school years offer credence to numerous conventional New York schooling conventions. My high school student population was great in number and at times fierce with numerous security checks, making school feel more like prison than an institution of learning. As one might imagine, I was eager to venture to college in North Carolina. I pursued a dual degree in Health Fitness & Kinesiology and Communication Studies. Upon graduating, I focused on finding employment in the health field. Soon, I realized there was little opportunity in the field. Several of my fellow graduates chased personal training certification or moved to careers such as nursing or physical therapy. At this point I was lost. I found a job, with the aid of a friend, selling payroll. My employment lasted only six months. I am grateful for said experience, without it I doubt I would have formulated my less than fond corporate support. While there are ideal prospects for individuals Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Reflective Essay On Interdisciplinary Studies Reflective Essay From this journey of interdisciplinary studies that I have embarked on I am at the beginning phases with this introductory course. I have crossed the stage of glossary terms and figuring out how to apply them to real life scenarios. I feel that the most eye–opening chapter for me was Chapter 3, which covered the "Cognitive Toolkit" that is the part of the course where I knew the concepts were coming together for me. Expressing what interdisciplinary studies means to me, how important integration is, and how my views have change and will change in the future has been fulfilling. Interdisciplinary studies is a cognitive process by which individuals or groups draw on disciplinary perspectives and integrate their insights and modes of thinking to advance their understanding of a complex problem with the goal of applying the understanding to a real world problem (Refko, Szostak, & Buchberger, 2014). It is a process of drawing on more than one discipline's unique view of reality, using advanced understanding, and being able to tackle a complex problem or question through the integration of insights. Interdisciplinary work is a means to achieve an outcome that can assume and abstract or...show more content... The new understanding is the result of the integrative process. The purpose of interdisciplinary studies is not to choose one disciplinary concept but to achieve a deeper understanding of the problem by integrating the best features of competing theories. It is the ability to take portions of different perspectives and creating a synthesized third perspective or concept. Integration is at the core of the interdisciplinary process and is reached by blending concepts. Without integration, interdisciplinarity would not be Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. As my Writing 39C course comes to a close, now is a great time to look at the journey I have taken to get here. I'll start with my high school experience with writing. Although, I wasn't a terrible writer, I didn't strive to be the best writer I could be. Although I had a decent writing skill, enough to pass the AP English exam at least, I never really pushed my writing abilities to anything beyond the minimum amount needed to pass with a decent grade. Once I got to college, however, writing was a different story. When I came into Writing 39B, I felt it would be something similar to my experiences in my high school AP English classes. Do the assignments with a minimal amount of work in order to get a decent grade, and just pass the class. However, as the course proceeded, I learned that I actually needed to make an effort to apply skill to my writing in order to do well. This was the first time I actually had to rigorously challenge my current skills in order to improve. As 39B came to a close, I felt that I had actually improved my composition skill. Writing 39C was now where I solidified and revised some of the techniques I learned in 39B, broke some bad habits, and worked to understand my style of writing. Working through the Historical Conservation Project (HCP) and Advocacy Project (AP), I have pushed myself to improve my writing skill. Although I have learned a lot throughout this quarters here at UCI, I want to emphasize three main areas that I have made great strides in: research, drafting, and revision. Research I came into Writing 39C with some formal lessons on how to research, mainly from high school. However, since I was taught those lessons years ago, I came into Writing 39C with a clear head. My primary research focus throughout the quarter was on copyright law and how the current law is out of touch with the Internet age. I got this idea from a course I took in the previous quarter. The course was on cyberspeech and gaming, with a focus on obscenity laws and, the thing I found most interesting, copyright and fair use. Given my interest in the topic and slight familiarity, I chose to tackle the problem of copyright law and fair use. Starting my research, I immediately went to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Reflection Of Higher Education An intersectional reflection of my dichotomous relationship with higher education is what fuels my desire to pursue a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis. As a first–generation college student, earning a Bachelor's and Master's degrees profoundly altered the trajectory of my family out of years of generational poverty. As a result of embracing highereducation, I possess the ability to think critically and creatively, with a passion and hunger for lifelong learning. Contrarily, the experience also left some biological, psychological, and social scarring. Macroaggressions, tokenism, and implicit bias have all contributed to the way that I now live, learn, and work in the world. While these experiences did not prevent the completion of my education, it has led others to abandon the pursuit, and certainly presents an enigma to many colleges and universities around the country eager to recruit and retain scholars that identify as Black/African–American, first–generation, and/or low socioeconomic status. The majority of my professional experience revolves around this very conundrum and the time has now come to pursue extensive and original research in this chosen field. My work in student affairs provides significant opportunity to contemplate, implement and assess initiatives related to student success and retention. My current research is connected to peer education and the 1st year experience and I have active and growing experience in the needs assessment and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Reflective Essay On Self Presentation This photograph is a self before work taken several months ago. My job requires professional attire. My self–presentation being presented within this photography is to convey a message of professionalism when at work. At work, I must conduct myself in a manner that I wouldn't normally on a day to day basis. My self–presentational motivations for my appearance and behavior are heavily influenced by the evaluative presence and judgement of others. In this particular role, I have to reflect myself in a manner that would be pleasing to the audience as suggested by Baumeister. I had to match my own self presentation as a knowledgeable and professional worker to my patient's and boss to meet their expectations and preferences. I am also the most professionally dressed in this picture which ties into the idea that audience pleasing self–presentational motivations vary in strength depending on the power and importance of the audience. This photo also incorporates my self–monitoring efforts, in which my role at work requires me to constantly adjust my performance depending on what impressions I am trying to make. This photograph is a picture that was taken in the comfort of my dorm room and was sent to friends on the social media app know as snapchat. My self–presentation within this photograph differs drastically to the photo above. This photo reflects some of my true behaviors that aren't influenced greatly by the presence of others. Though my self–presentation was not heavily influenced by the presence of other there still was a slight amount of consideration of judgment from others when this photo was taken. This photo was sent to some of my closes friends and not posted to my story for everyone to view. Which suggests slight caution in regards to myimpression management. This photo was also not posted on my other social media sites, in which I portray myself in a more professional manner due to certain follows on my other social media sites who are professionals. In this photograph, I was participating in an alternative spring break trip to Sneedville, Tennessee. Partnership for the Future is a program designed to provide high–potential high school students from challenging circumstances in the metro–Richmond area with the tools and experiences necessary to attain a college degree. While being a student in this program I have helped with the recruitment of prospective students, and I have helped with conducting interviews for incoming students.
