This short presentation provides an overview of the capabilities of the Wintriss Controls SmartPAC PRO press automation controller.
Features include a programmable limit (cam) switch, die protection, tonnage monitoring, brake stopping time monitor, counters, servo feed interface, automatic machine data collection, shutheight and counterbalance control, and in-die measurement.
2. SmartPAC PRO
• The SmartPAC PRO is a resolver-based multi-
function press automation controller
• It is modular and highly configurable, enabling you
to customize it to your exact needs
• The standard model is designed to operate on part-
revolution mechanical power presses
• Versions for Servo and Hydraulic presses are also
available
3. The SmartPAC PRO Resolver
• Each SmartPAC PRO is equipped with a resolver
• A resolver is a rugged precision rotary sensor that
is driven 1:1 with the press’s crankshaft
• The resolver provides the SmartPAC PRO with the
crankshaft angle, speed, and direction of rotation
• The resolver enables the SmartPAC PRO to provide
timing signals – accurate to 1/3⁰ - for controlling
ancillary equipment and monitoring sensors at
speeds of up to 2000 strokes per minute (SPM)
4. SmartPAC PRO Base Features
• The following features are present in the basic
SmartPAC PRO:
• Brake stopping time monitor
• Counters
• Unlimited tool setup storage
• SmartView Remote Web Interface
• Bidirectional messaging capability
• The available optional modules allow you to tailor
the controller to your press’s needs.
5. SmartPAC PRO Optional Modules
• ProCamPAC – Programmable limit switch
• DiProPAC – Die malfunction detector
• AutoSetPAC – Peak tonnage Monitor
• WaveFormPAC – Tonnage signature monitor
• RamPAC – Shut height and counterbalance control
• ProPAC – In-die measurement and process monitor
• WPC 2000 – Clutch/Brake control integration
6. ProCamPAC PLS
• The ProCamPAC programmable limit switch provides
accurate timing signals for the press control and
ancillary equipment such as servo feeds, conveyors,
part blow-off solenoids, etc.
• Available with 8 or 16 channels (outputs)
• Outputs can be turned on and off at specific angles,
set to turn on and off multiple times per cycle, turn
on for a specified number of milliseconds, actuate
only on certain strokes (controlled by a counter), and
activate based in an external trigger.
7. DiProPAC Die Malfunction Detector
• The DiProPAC monitors discrete-output sensors
installed in and around the die to detect potentially
die-damaging events and stop the press before it can
make a bad hit.
• Available with 8, 16, or 32 inputs
• Built-in monitoring logic to detect misfeed, material
buckle, part ejection issues, pulled slugs, end of
material, improper transfer, etc.
• Compatible with electronic and electromechanical
sensors and switches
8. AutoSetPAC Peak Tonnage Monitor
• The AutoSetPAC peak tonnage monitor uses sensors
called Strain Links to measure press frame deflection
and convert the value into the tonnage generated by
the press as it makes a part
• Available with 2 or 4 inputs
• Programmable setpoints allow the AutoSetPAC to
stop the press if the tonnage is too high, too low, or
if it changes too much from one stroke to the next.
• The setpoints are stored with the tool information
for each die.
9. WaveFormPAC Signature Monitor
• The WaveFormPAC monitors the tonnage waveform
profile during each press stroke and stops the press if
variations exceed preset limits
• Peak tonnage can be monitored separately in up to 4
timing windows, each with its own setpoints
• For every die, WaveFormPAC stores 'benchmark'
(theoretically, known 'good') waveforms for each
corner of the press and the total load. Each time the
die is reloaded, new waveforms can be compared to
the stored benchmark waveforms to verify that the
setup is accurate.
10. RamPAC Shutheight & Counterbalance
• Automatically adjusts shut-height, counterbalance
and die-cushion pressures with each tool/die
changeover.
• Improves productivity by reducing set-up time
• Automatic shut-height adjustment helps keep parts
uniform from run to run
• Saves energy with correct counterbalance settings
for each tool
• Accurate counterbalance and die-cushion pressure
setting every time
11. ProPAC In-Die Measurement
• Monitors up to 16 analog or digital sensors.
• Analog sensors can be used to measure part
dimensions.
• ProPAC has built-in shift registers to track a bad part
through the die, and features sensor-controlled
outputs that can be used to divert bad parts.
• ProPAC can also be used to monitor discrete output
(die protection) sensors.
12. WPC 2000 Integration
• The SmartPAC PRO can be combined with a WPC
2000 Clutch/Brake Control to integrate all your press
control, automation, and monitoring functions.
• The WPC 2000/SmartPAC PRO integration provides a
comprehensive user interface for all WPC 2000
functions
• You can program important press control parameters
from the SmartPAC PRO
• SmartPAC PRO provides a diagnostics display that
shows the status of all inputs and switches
13. SmartPAC PRO Firmware Options
• Alternate Language – English, Spanish, Chinese,
Portuguese, Polish
• PM Monitor – Maintenance Tracker
• USB backup capability
• Servofeed Interface – Saves feed settings
