Argumentative Essay On Death And Dying
Death and Dying is a normal process part of everyone's lifecycle, and yet, is often a hidden topic and not discussed on a regular basis. Death is
something we learn about over our own lifetime as we lose those dear to our hearts and mourn the loss that we experience. No two people experience
death and react to death in the exact same way. Often, differing family and cultural practices can influence how one reacts and copes with death or a
loss.
The earliest death that I experienced and remember was that of my grandpa Eugene. I was in kindergarten and it was shortly after we had gotten
back from our family reunion out in California. I remember going up to North Dakota in march which and I couldn't understand why because we
only went to go up there during the summer normally. I vaguely remember being very hungry and making my dad leave the funeral home to bring
me to get food. I remember sleeping during the service and waking up just in time to go to the cemetery. I also remember throwing flowers into the
hole in the ground because everyone else was doing it but I still didn't understand what was going on. The thing that I remember most about his
death was walking up to the open casket. I didn't understand why my grandpa was laying like this and I didn't get what "grandpa died," meant. I
stood there and kept poking his face, his eyes, and playing with his cheeks until my uncle saw what I was doing and pulled me away to go sit with
my cousins. From this experience, I learned about what death is and how it happens to everyone at some point in their life. I learned a great deal
about mourning through observing my family members share old photos and stories and crying it out with each other. At this age, I thought death was
something that only happened to old people. I also through death is unexpected and sad for everyone because that is how the death of my grandpa was.
My most significant death in my life was the loss my classmate, peer, and childhood friend Maddy from a car accident. These together were the most
significant because I learned a great deal about life through the loss of both. I was a junior in high school on the first Thursday of class where we all sat
knowing Maddy had died because we saw it

In order to have a good argumentative essay, there are a few important standards of critical thinking that is needed to be found in the essay such as
the clearness, accuracy, importance or relevance, sufficiency, depth, breath and precision that is stated by Nosich. The strength of this argumentative
essay is consider weak because it does not capture the interest of the reader and was not persuasive enough; even though from the introduction of the
argumentative essay includes full sentences and a good opinion, the argumentative essay is all objective. The introduction includes too much of the
emotional appeals, such as when it wrote " Day after day the number of people worshipping this icon has been growing since the birth of this
creature. well to many it may seem harmless idol but in my opinion, Mickey Mouse is an 'devil in disguise' influencing the minds of young and old
people to adopt the culture of the 'devil' which doesn't blend will with the moral values of society and should be banned". To improve the introduction,
the writer should include of all objectives statements relative facts and appeals to the mind of people who agree or disagree with the topic.

Argumentative Essays
Failure is the step towards success. Do you agree?
It is often assumed that failure is a deterrent to achievement. Rather, failure should be seen as a motivator for a person to keep trying until the
objective or aim of a particular mission is fulfilled. Failure often times leads a person to feel helpless, disappointed and depressed. However, one should
not allow this to set them back in trying to achieve the ultimate aim one has set out to do. Failure in the beginning can often be a powerful incentive to
reassess one's position in wanting to achieve the particular aims; to analyse whether the purpose is worth the trouble the person has to undergo and the
whether the obstacles are surmountable. Practical and...show more content...
Another disadvantage of being an only is that he lacks companionship. He has no brother or sister to confide in. Growing up as an only child can
be very lonely. If you have siblings you will have to share everything, so you get less; but you also get less of the bad things. Siblings can support
and comfort each in times of trouble. The elder siblings learn to care for the younger ones and the younger ones learn to respect their elder siblings
and have someone to look up to besides their parents. You are more balanced person than an only child. Another advantage of having siblings is that
your parents' attention is divided among your siblings. As a result, there is less pressure on you to perform well, be it academically or in other areas.
Having siblings also means that you have companionship, the joy of caring and sharing, and security. I, personally, am happy that I am not an only child.
Students should not take up part time jobs. Discuss.
Nowadays, students love to have part–time jobs. Their parents approve it easily as they are said to gain experience from working. However, having a
job is a big responsibility for a student. Before, teenagers at their age were working to help their family because of poverty. Nevertheless, they were
actually eager to study and learn at school for their future. It was not the same as the teenagers nowadays where they are more likely competing to
each other to have a job. Most of the

Mandatory Vaccination Argumentative Essay
Mandatory vaccinations have been hotly debated in the United States for over two centuries, making the argument almost as old as the country itself.
As early as 1809, Massachusetts became the first state to mandate the world's premiere vaccine. Authorities recognized the life–saving benefits of the
smallpox vaccine. They chose to require inoculation to protect the community from further outbreaks. Public outrage ensued as some community
members feared the new vaccine and believed they should be able to choose if they wished to receive it. The most vocal protestors formed
anti–compulsory vaccination groups and were successful in getting laws overturned in many states. However, even the United States Supreme Court has
upheld states' rights to require immunization. (A) Vaccinations should be...show more content...
Despite significant progress in the fight against preventable disease, millions still die needlessly each year. According to UNICEF, originally known
as the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund, a vaccine preventable disease is responsible for 2 million fatal infections worldwide
each year. About 75% of these deaths occur in children under five years of age. (N) In more vivid terms, UNICEF notes that vaccine–preventable
diseases kill a child every 20 seconds. (D) Due to high rates of childhood vaccination, the United States has experienced a dramatic reduction in such
deaths. A comparison of the years 1950 and 2010 clearly illustrates the benefits of vaccinations. During this 60–year period, deaths from diphtheria
reduced from 410 to 0, tetanus from 336 to 3, pertussis from 1,118 to 26, and polio from 1,904 to 0. Measles deaths dropped from 468 in 1950 to 0
in 2008, the last year a United States death rate was recorded. It's not surprising that vaccinations have been touted as one of the top ten health
achievements of the 20th century by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

What Makes An Effective Argument Ineffective?
1.The basic parts of an effective argument are a stated clearly defined issue, makes a claim, and offers support for that claim. Sometimes an argument
may also recognize opposing viewpoints and incorporate them into the argument
2.What makes an argument ineffective is when using emotional appeals to distract a reader from a lack of evidence. Also the use of faulty reasoning,
and inaccurate facts.
3.An issue is a problem, controversy, or an idea that people can have different viewpoints about. The term claim is a point in which a writer is trying to
prove. This is typically the writer's viewpoint on the issue. A refutation is recognizing and auguring against opposing viewpoints.
4.A claim of value focuses on an opinion or judgment about

Examples Of Argumentative Essay
Argumentative essay presents a point of view about something and explains the reasons in order to win readers' agreement. It is built around a specific
statement (or main premise) that is debatable within the field in which students are studying. In other words, at the center of an argumentative essay is
a statement with which readers may disagree. The argumentative essay will need to support that statement in a manner that convinces the readers of its
truth. It mainly strives to convince the reader of the writer's point of view, using reasonable and ethical methods .The process of argument composition
varies from writer to writer, most writers follow these three stages: forming an argument, which can consist of discovering a motive for writing and
identifying an audience to address, discovering and sharpening a position, and developing an appropriate style; supporting the argument; and reviewing
the argument, which can include considering the image projected by argument, making substantial additions or deletions to a first draft, and adding an

The first feature is superstructure which refers to the organizational plan of any text and the linear progression of the text. The second feature is the
quality of logical reasoning which is assessed by analyzing the interrelationships of writers' assertions and the associated support or data provided to
substantiate those claims. The third feature is identified as persuasive appeal, including affective appeal and establishment of writer credibility. Finally,
she notes that audience awareness is an important characteristic of successful argumentative writing. The writer must observe an awareness of the
reader's perspective by dealing implicitly or explicitly with possible

They Say I Say Of An Argumentative Paper
They Say I Say is extremely useful in learning how to write argumentative papers because the authors discuss the "I say" of an argumentative paper
by providing many real life examples and templates for new writers to experiment with. For example, on page 60, templates are provided for
disagreeing with an argument and using reasoning. One of the templates reads, "X claims that ___ rests upon the questionable assumption that
___"(Graff). On page 62, templates for agreeing are presented, one of which is, "X is surely right about ___ because, as she may not be aware, recent
studies have shown"(Graff). It is also expressed in this chapter that students feel uncomfortable agreeing with arguments made or disagreeing. On page

The Importance Of Writing An Argumentative Essay
As a student in a beginning English class some elements may seem difficult at the beginning but with practice they become long lasting skills. Writing
an argumentative is not an easy task there is a lot of elements that have to come together to create a successful essay but as many other things, it
requires constant practice and effort. At the start of this course I wasn't a very good writer myself, and I can see the huge improvement this course
made by looking at my first argumentative essay. I was able to identify and apply the requisites of a good argument essay. A well thought structure,
reliable evidence, and a counterargument are three essential components of argumentative writing.
The structure of an essay is the foundation to a good argumentative paper. Throughout this course I learned the importance of having an essay
structure, before I started this class I didn't have a very clear vision of how to correctly format my essay. In my diagnostic essay, which was the
first one I wrote for English 1302, had five paragraphs. That is considered a standard structure of many essays but it is more of a skeleton.
Looking back at that essay I see how poor my introduction was, I did not even have a clear thesis. One only thing even close to one that I could
spot was, "The "millennials," people born in the last two decades of the 20th century, are failing to reflect Rich's model for a good education." It
merely addresses the topic in a simple way. It did not serve the purpose a

Argumentative essay on social media
Argument essay about social media Nowadays, a lot of people are using social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumbler and so on. Since the Internet
has propagated rapidly, social media have progressed a lot. The generalization of the internet makes us to live conveniently and fast. People are almost
using smart phones, i–phones or comfortable devices which can access to internet. These equipments make us to do social network easily. It helps
contact friends, family, and other people even though they live far away. It could be, however, abused, if you don't use properly. Especially, it is
important that we understand and regulate the use of social media by young children. First of all, social media, especially facebook,...show more

They just meet on websites, not physical meeting. Psychologist, Aric Sigman suggests "The use of social networking sites as opposed to face–to–face
interaction could lead to major health problems." Also he claimed in the British Journal The Biologist "Spending too much time online could lead
to social isolation, loneliness and a negative outlook. These types of psychological symptoms could eventually lead to more serious health
concerns, such as heart disease, cancer and dementia." Using social media disturbs make deep relationship with others. When they are using
social media we do not need to move a lot. It is okay just to stay. We do not need to active a lot. As a result, it leads naturally mental and physical
disorders. Third, social media doesn't help for their studies or talents. People think social media is good places to show their talents or works what
they did. For example, they argue people can share video clip what they playing the instruments or dancing or singing. It is, however, for people
who already good to do those. If you are not good at those things and if you spend time to do social media, it would be hard to progress your talents.
I did surveys about relationships between using social media and studying last semester. Most students answered using social media is not helpful to
study. Also, students who got good grades spend just a little time to use social media. Using social media

Everyone, no matter who they are, was an innocent child at one point. A child who was protected from the rest of reality by their parents or
guardians. However, once you go out into the real world, everything you believed starts to fade away, and you start to gain a new perspective on life.
Harper Lee, the author of To Kill a Mockingbird, expresses the story of a 9–year–old girl named Scout, who lives in Maycomb, Alabama, during the
Great Depression. She retells her experiences that led up to when her older brother, Jem broke his arm. Scout's father, Atticus, a wise defense attorney,
had to take a biased case against Bob Ewell's daughter, Mayella, who had accused Tom Robinson, a black man, of raping her. Atticus, to many people's

It shows how innocence can hold a person back and losing it is a gateway to the rest of your life or your adulthood. Scout starts of 6 years old and
like any other child would, nieve about the world and the horrible things that come with it. Atticus levels with Scout and tries to make her understand
that not all people are good, with the example being Cecil Jacobs. Then she goes to Calpurnia's church and learns from the black people's perspective
the situation Tom Robinson and Atticus are going through. Atticus acts very openly about the subject, unlike most parents, which allows you to see
the rapid changes in Scout's personality. Finally, Dolphus Raymond reveals to Scout that in a lifetime, you sometimes have to do bad things to give
off a right message, which in his case is lying to gain a better connection with the black population. Losing innocence isn't something a select few get
to experience, because everyone is at one point exposed to the real world, and even though that losing your innocence may be a slow, indiscernible
process, it will make you a better, mature, and sophisticated

Argumentative Essay On Social Justice
Oftentimes, the definition of social justice can be misinterpreted or misunderstood. The true definition of social justice is often structured by
governmental implications but is the fair and proper administration of laws to each individual conforming to the natural law. Equality is supposed to
be equally distributed amongst individuals nationally, but can sometimes be taken advantage of and be taken away from people who deserve it the
most. Generally, those who view social justices as a right, also value people above profits. Social justice describes the concept of society where justice
is achieved in every aspect of society, rather than just the administration of the law. Overall, social justice gives society the ability to have a voice of
laws that may be broken but give a sufficient argument to be heard by the supreme court. Equality is a major issue that has been demanded by
society for centuries. In Victor Fleming's film The Way of All Flesh, released in October of 1927, the story describes the life of Henrietta Lacks.
Henrietta Lacks was an African American woman from Baltimore who eventually died of cervicalcancer in 1951. Before she died some of her
cancerous cells were taken without her permission and the cells have been reproducing in laboratories around the world ever since. The question is,
does taking the cells of a woman who was eventually going to die break the laws of social justice, or was this a necessary action to take in hopes of
eventually finding a

Argumentative Essay On Screen Time
Technology has been part of our daily live more frequently than before. Screen time has been more popularly used on kids and adolescents. On a
daily bases many kids seem to spend more time inside on their tablets, instead of having to spend time with other kids. This is a problem that is
becoming more popular over the years,on whether kids need to spend that much time on technology or not. Parents either seem to have strict
technology usage, or they either don't. There has always been a huge controversy with experts, who either think that screen time is beneficial or could
cause problems later on in life. There are many views towards this topic, from hurting kids brains, to helping them during school, and socially.
Many people, including...show more content...
In order to balance both there has to be comparative with the parents. Technology isn't good nor bad. It can only benefit the child if the parents put a
limit to their time in the screen. Parents need to set up a schedule in where the kids will follow the time the kids will be using the tablet/ phone. As well
have time to play with other kids, and just interact with there own family member. In the article, Screen time: A guide for parents states, " keeping
computers out of the bedroom, and keep them in a common area in your house. This will make sure that the child isn't using their computers/ tablets
during the time they have to rest. Kids need to have a good rest, and not having technology in their rooms because it could cause irregular sleep. Just
having the parent take action in how much kids need to spend time in the screens can be a good start. Luscombe argues, " Take away the idea that all
screens are bad, but the face–to –face time for young people is an important part of the socialization process". Parents seem to not understand that
children need to develop good social skills, and that can only be done by interacting with others, and get a sense on others points of views. Parents
need to stop giving the kids technology to keep them quiet for a while, because at the end it's hurting the child

Writing An Argumentative Essay
During this course I have learned there is in fact a great deal to writing. Throughout my lifetime I have had to write numerous amounts of essays and
papers for various subjects, all requiring different styles and techniques. Before engulfing myself into the writing process I would try and think of
whom I am writing to and what I am writing about. I always just assumed I was writing for my audience, that being my teacher. Writing an
argumentative research paper is something I had yet to accomplish in my college career. Not only was it thought provoking but this paper challenged
me in many ways, such as, knowing who I should be directing throughout the essay to as well as the simple steps of organizing my thoughts and ideas.
Also, simply reflecting on what information needs to be apart of the essay and what doesn't.
While writing for academic reasons I would always write for the grade, not for the purpose to write and truly convince the reader that what I am
writing about is in fact important. I have learned that when writing an argumentative research paper you are writing for an audience of people not
just to one person. You are writing to convince the reader why they should care about the topic, and the reader should be able to feel that passion in
your writing. You are writing to broaden the thoughts regarding this topic to whom ever chooses to read your paper not just for that grade. Thinking of
who I should direct my paper to is something I still struggle with, however,

Becoming A Better Writer : Writing
Upon entering Columbia College, writing was one of my weaker areas. It was very important that I gained the necessary knowledge and
confidence to become a better writer. I didn't know how to express myself and felt as though my writing was not my interest. As a result of taking
English 101, I have gained a better understanding on how to properly research and build a satisfactory paper. Every paper that was assigned
seemed like a struggle to complete. Before entering this class, I did not know the meaning of a thesis or why it was important, however, I obtained
this skill quickly. I noticed that every paper has an argument and the thesis helps clarify the rebuttal. Now, I have a new outlook on writing. It's a
way to express my thoughts and allow others to see things through my eyes. There is no doubt that I still have a long way to go, but I know if I
continue to write, I will get better. Just as I developed more skills in class, the various papers assigned helped to better structure the writer in me. In
addition, the subject areas were not only interesting, but very informative and made it much easier to write about my experiences. This portfolio
demonstrates the strongest and the weakest of my writing as a first year college student and as a rising professional of psychology major. As
psychology students, we think beyond the norm and obtain enormous amounts of research for proof, similar to English majors. As a result of Columbia
College being a liberal art institution,

How to Resolve Conflict Essay
Conflict is in inevitable part of our everyday lives. Since no two people view things in the exact same manner, disagreement will most certainly arise
at some point in time. Conflict is simply a difference of opinion and is considered to be a normal part of our everyday lives. There are several different
forms of conflict and not all of them are considered to be bad. This paper will discuss the causes of conflict, the different types of conflict, and barriers
to conflict. According to Communication Research Associates, conflict is a condition of imbalance within an individual (Communication Research
Associates, 2005, p. 178). Keep in mind that just as there are disadvantages to conflict, there are also several advantages.
In order to...show more content...
For example, if you are at work and walk by someone's desk and accidently knock their pen on the floor. All of sudden, the person lashes out and
starts to curse at you. Knowing that this is not the norm for your coworker, it would safe to assume that they are under some form of stress or have
other things on their mind. By knowing this, it becomes easier to respond in a more responsible, tempered, and appropriate, manner. Sometimes ego
can become a cause for conflict as well. There may come a time when someone is wrong about something or they may have made a mistake but they
refuse to admit it. Because they have such a high ego, they may become self–protective of their situation, therefore causing conflict because they refuse
to admit they were wrong. Instead they may choose to become persistent in standing their ground, whether they are right or wrong.
During communication, if the intended goals are not clearly identified, there is a greater possibility for error and it could further aggravate a situation,
causing conflict. Because each individual is different there are bound to be clashes within certain personality types. For example, if someone prefers
to discuss everything in detail and I prefer to get straight to the point then we could have a personality clash because we are not seeing things
eye–to–eye. They may view me as being incompetent or irresponsible while I would

My Writing Skills Improved Over The Last Semester
My Writing Skills have improved Over the Last Semester
While attending writing class, I learned about the 4 steps in writing, bases for revising, organizing, and connecting specific information, and I also
learned about the different types of essays such as descriptive, narrative, process, cause and effect and argumentative essay. I have been a student at
Milwaukee Area Technical College for 1 semester, and over the course of my enrollment I have grown and learned more that I knew prior to attending
this writing course. Participating in this writing class has taught me so much more than stuff about literature and language, it has taught me another
way of expressing myself. I have learned here how to write and express myself, how to think for myself, and how to find the answers to the things that
I don 't know. Most importantly I have learned how important technique, outlines and organization are. My goal in this paper is to inform writers about
how my writing skills have improved.
Learning about the different type of writing styles and steps of writing was the most interesting. Descriptive essays are my favorite to read and
write. If I was to write about a person, I would select a dominant impression of the person using details to convey that impression. I would also
choose details to support the topic sentence. Descriptive essays help give readers vivid image in their mind. When I write descriptive essays, I use 4

  • 2. Argumentative Essay On Death And Dying Death and Dying is a normal process part of everyone's lifecycle, and yet, is often a hidden topic and not discussed on a regular basis. Death is something we learn about over our own lifetime as we lose those dear to our hearts and mourn the loss that we experience. No two people experience death and react to death in the exact same way. Often, differing family and cultural practices can influence how one reacts and copes with death or a loss. The earliest death that I experienced and remember was that of my grandpa Eugene. I was in kindergarten and it was shortly after we had gotten back from our family reunion out in California. I remember going up to North Dakota in march which and I couldn't understand why because we only went to go up there during the summer normally. I vaguely remember being very hungry and making my dad leave the funeral home to bring me to get food. I remember sleeping during the service and waking up just in time to go to the cemetery. I also remember throwing flowers into the hole in the ground because everyone else was doing it but I still didn't understand what was going on. The thing that I remember most about his death was walking up to the open casket. I didn't understand why my grandpa was laying like this and I didn't get what "grandpa died," meant. I stood there and kept poking his face, his eyes, and playing with his cheeks until my uncle saw what I was doing and pulled me away to go sit with my cousins. From this experience, I learned about what death is and how it happens to everyone at some point in their life. I learned a great deal about mourning through observing my family members share old photos and stories and crying it out with each other. At this age, I thought death was something that only happened to old people. I also through death is unexpected and sad for everyone because that is how the death of my grandpa was. My most significant death in my life was the loss my classmate, peer, and childhood friend Maddy from a car accident. These together were the most significant because I learned a great deal about life through the loss of both. I was a junior in high school on the first Thursday of class where we all sat knowing Maddy had died because we saw it Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. In order to have a good argumentative essay, there are a few important standards of critical thinking that is needed to be found in the essay such as the clearness, accuracy, importance or relevance, sufficiency, depth, breath and precision that is stated by Nosich. The strength of this argumentative essay is consider weak because it does not capture the interest of the reader and was not persuasive enough; even though from the introduction of the argumentative essay includes full sentences and a good opinion, the argumentative essay is all objective. The introduction includes too much of the emotional appeals, such as when it wrote " Day after day the number of people worshipping this icon has been growing since the birth of this creature. well to many it may seem harmless idol but in my opinion, Mickey Mouse is an 'devil in disguise' influencing the minds of young and old people to adopt the culture of the 'devil' which doesn't blend will with the moral values of society and should be banned". To improve the introduction, the writer should include of all objectives statements relative facts and appeals to the mind of people who agree or disagree with the topic. • 4. Argumentative Essays Failure is the step towards success. Do you agree? It is often assumed that failure is a deterrent to achievement. Rather, failure should be seen as a motivator for a person to keep trying until the objective or aim of a particular mission is fulfilled. Failure often times leads a person to feel helpless, disappointed and depressed. However, one should not allow this to set them back in trying to achieve the ultimate aim one has set out to do. Failure in the beginning can often be a powerful incentive to reassess one's position in wanting to achieve the particular aims; to analyse whether the purpose is worth the trouble the person has to undergo and the whether the obstacles are surmountable. Practical and...show more content... Another disadvantage of being an only is that he lacks companionship. He has no brother or sister to confide in. Growing up as an only child can be very lonely. If you have siblings you will have to share everything, so you get less; but you also get less of the bad things. Siblings can support and comfort each in times of trouble. The elder siblings learn to care for the younger ones and the younger ones learn to respect their elder siblings and have someone to look up to besides their parents. You are more balanced person than an only child. Another advantage of having siblings is that your parents' attention is divided among your siblings. However, having a job is a big responsibility for a student. Before, teenagers at their age were working to help their family because of poverty. Nevertheless, they were actually eager to study and learn at school for their future. It was not the same as the teenagers nowadays where they are more likely competing to each other to have a job. Most of the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Mandatory Vaccination Argumentative Essay Mandatory vaccinations have been hotly debated in the United States for over two centuries, making the argument almost as old as the country itself. As early as 1809, Massachusetts became the first state to mandate the world's premiere vaccine. Authorities recognized the life–saving benefits of the smallpox vaccine. They chose to require inoculation to protect the community from further outbreaks. Public outrage ensued as some community members feared the new vaccine and believed they should be able to choose if they wished to receive it. The most vocal protestors formed anti–compulsory vaccination groups and were successful in getting laws overturned in many states. However, even the United States Supreme Court has upheld states' rights to require immunization. (A) Vaccinations should be...show more content... Despite significant progress in the fight against preventable disease, millions still die needlessly each year. According to UNICEF, originally known as the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund, a vaccine preventable disease is responsible for 2 million fatal infections worldwide each year. About 75% of these deaths occur in children under five years of age. (N) In more vivid terms, UNICEF notes that vaccine–preventable diseases kill a child every 20 seconds. (D) Due to high rates of childhood vaccination, the United States has experienced a dramatic reduction in such deaths. A comparison of the years 1950 and 2010 clearly illustrates the benefits of vaccinations. During this 60–year period, deaths from diphtheria reduced from 410 to 0, tetanus from 336 to 3, pertussis from 1,118 to 26, and polio from 1,904 to 0. Measles deaths dropped from 468 in 1950 to 0 in 2008, the last year a United States death rate was recorded. It's not surprising that vaccinations have been touted as one of the top ten health achievements of the 20th century by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). • 7. Examples Of Argumentative Essay Argumentative essay presents a point of view about something and explains the reasons in order to win readers' agreement. It is built around a specific statement (or main premise) that is debatable within the field in which students are studying. In other words, at the center of an argumentative essay is a statement with which readers may disagree. The argumentative essay will need to support that statement in a manner that convinces the readers of its truth. It mainly strives to convince the reader of the writer's point of view, using reasonable and ethical methods .The process of argument composition varies from writer to writer, most writers follow these three stages: forming an argument, which can consist of discovering a motive for writing and identifying an audience to address, discovering and sharpening a position, and developing an appropriate style; supporting the argument; and reviewing the argument, which can include considering the image projected by argument, making substantial additions or deletions to a first draft, and adding an introduction and conclusion (Cheng and Chen 2009, Day,1997, Liu,2005,Mayberry,2009)....show more content... • 8. They Say I Say Of An Argumentative Paper They Say I Say is extremely useful in learning how to write argumentative papers because the authors discuss the "I say" of an argumentative paper by providing many real life examples and templates for new writers to experiment with. For example, on page 60, templates are provided for disagreeing with an argument and using reasoning. One of the templates reads, "X claims that ___ rests upon the questionable assumption that ___"(Graff). On page 62, templates for agreeing are presented, one of which is, "X is surely right about ___ because, as she may not be aware, recent studies have shown"(Graff). It is also expressed in this chapter that students feel uncomfortable agreeing with arguments made or disagreeing. On page 63 the authors also recognize Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. The Importance Of Writing An Argumentative Essay As a student in a beginning English class some elements may seem difficult at the beginning but with practice they become long lasting skills. Writing an argumentative is not an easy task there is a lot of elements that have to come together to create a successful essay but as many other things, it requires constant practice and effort. At the start of this course I wasn't a very good writer myself, and I can see the huge improvement this course made by looking at my first argumentative essay. I was able to identify and apply the requisites of a good argument essay. A well thought structure, reliable evidence, and a counterargument are three essential components of argumentative writing. The structure of an essay is the foundation to a good argumentative paper. Throughout this course I learned the importance of having an essay structure, before I started this class I didn't have a very clear vision of how to correctly format my essay. In my diagnostic essay, which was the first one I wrote for English 1302, had five paragraphs. That is considered a standard structure of many essays but it is more of a skeleton. Looking back at that essay I see how poor my introduction was, I did not even have a clear thesis. One only thing even close to one that I could spot was, "The "millennials," people born in the last two decades of the 20th century, are failing to reflect Rich's model for a good education." It merely addresses the topic in a simple way. It did not serve the purpose a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Argumentative essay on social media Argument essay about social media Nowadays, a lot of people are using social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumbler and so on. Since the Internet has propagated rapidly, social media have progressed a lot. The generalization of the internet makes us to live conveniently and fast. People are almost using smart phones, i–phones or comfortable devices which can access to internet. These equipments make us to do social network easily. It helps contact friends, family, and other people even though they live far away. It could be, however, abused, if you don't use properly. Especially, it is important that we understand and regulate the use of social media by young children. First of all, social media, especially facebook,...show more content... They just meet on websites, not physical meeting. Psychologist, Aric Sigman suggests "The use of social networking sites as opposed to face–to–face interaction could lead to major health problems." Also he claimed in the British Journal The Biologist "Spending too much time online could lead to social isolation, loneliness and a negative outlook. These types of psychological symptoms could eventually lead to more serious health concerns, such as heart disease, cancer and dementia." Using social media disturbs make deep relationship with others. When they are using social media we do not need to move a lot. It is okay just to stay. We do not need to active a lot. As a result, it leads naturally mental and physical disorders. Third, social media doesn't help for their studies or talents. People think social media is good places to show their talents or works what they did. For example, they argue people can share video clip what they playing the instruments or dancing or singing. It is, however, for people who already good to do those. If you are not good at those things and if you spend time to do social media, it would be hard to progress your talents. I did surveys about relationships between using social media and studying last semester. Most students answered using social media is not helpful to study. Also, students who got good grades spend just a little time to use social media. Using social media Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Everyone, no matter who they are, was an innocent child at one point. A child who was protected from the rest of reality by their parents or guardians. However, once you go out into the real world, everything you believed starts to fade away, and you start to gain a new perspective on life. Harper Lee, the author of To Kill a Mockingbird, expresses the story of a 9–year–old girl named Scout, who lives in Maycomb, Alabama, during the Great Depression. She retells her experiences that led up to when her older brother, Jem broke his arm. Scout's father, Atticus, a wise defense attorney, had to take a biased case against Bob Ewell's daughter, Mayella, who had accused Tom Robinson, a black man, of raping her. Atticus, to many people's surprise,...show more content... It shows how innocence can hold a person back and losing it is a gateway to the rest of your life or your adulthood. Scout starts of 6 years old and like any other child would, nieve about the world and the horrible things that come with it. Atticus levels with Scout and tries to make her understand that not all people are good, with the example being Cecil Jacobs. Then she goes to Calpurnia's church and learns from the black people's perspective the situation Tom Robinson and Atticus are going through. Atticus acts very openly about the subject, unlike most parents, which allows you to see the rapid changes in Scout's personality. Finally, Dolphus Raymond reveals to Scout that in a lifetime, you sometimes have to do bad things to give off a right message, which in his case is lying to gain a better connection with the black population. Losing innocence isn't something a select few get to experience, because everyone is at one point exposed to the real world, and even though that losing your innocence may be a slow, indiscernible process, it will make you a better, mature, and sophisticated Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Argumentative Essay On Social Justice Oftentimes, the definition of social justice can be misinterpreted or misunderstood. The true definition of social justice is often structured by governmental implications but is the fair and proper administration of laws to each individual conforming to the natural law. Equality is supposed to be equally distributed amongst individuals nationally, but can sometimes be taken advantage of and be taken away from people who deserve it the most. Generally, those who view social justices as a right, also value people above profits. Social justice describes the concept of society where justice is achieved in every aspect of society, rather than just the administration of the law. Overall, social justice gives society the ability to have a voice of laws that may be broken but give a sufficient argument to be heard by the supreme court. Equality is a major issue that has been demanded by society for centuries. In Victor Fleming's film The Way of All Flesh, released in October of 1927, the story describes the life of Henrietta Lacks. Henrietta Lacks was an African American woman from Baltimore who eventually died of cervicalcancer in 1951. Before she died some of her cancerous cells were taken without her permission and the cells have been reproducing in laboratories around the world ever since. The question is, does taking the cells of a woman who was eventually going to die break the laws of social justice, or was this a necessary action to take in hopes of eventually finding a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Argumentative Essay On Screen Time Technology has been part of our daily live more frequently than before. Screen time has been more popularly used on kids and adolescents. On a daily bases many kids seem to spend more time inside on their tablets, instead of having to spend time with other kids. This is a problem that is becoming more popular over the years,on whether kids need to spend that much time on technology or not. Parents either seem to have strict technology usage, or they either don't. There has always been a huge controversy with experts, who either think that screen time is beneficial or could cause problems later on in life. There are many views towards this topic, from hurting kids brains, to helping them during school, and socially. Many people, including...show more content... In order to balance both there has to be comparative with the parents. Technology isn't good nor bad. It can only benefit the child if the parents put a limit to their time in the screen. Parents need to set up a schedule in where the kids will follow the time the kids will be using the tablet/ phone. As well have time to play with other kids, and just interact with there own family member. In the article, Screen time: A guide for parents states, " keeping computers out of the bedroom, and keep them in a common area in your house. This will make sure that the child isn't using their computers/ tablets during the time they have to rest. Kids need to have a good rest, and not having technology in their rooms because it could cause irregular sleep. Just having the parent take action in how much kids need to spend time in the screens can be a good start. Luscombe argues, " Take away the idea that all screens are bad, but the face–to –face time for young people is an important part of the socialization process". Parents seem to not understand that children need to develop good social skills, and that can only be done by interacting with others, and get a sense on others points of views. Parents need to stop giving the kids technology to keep them quiet for a while, because at the end it's hurting the child Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Writing An Argumentative Essay During this course I have learned there is in fact a great deal to writing. Throughout my lifetime I have had to write numerous amounts of essays and papers for various subjects, all requiring different styles and techniques. Before engulfing myself into the writing process I would try and think of whom I am writing to and what I am writing about. I always just assumed I was writing for my audience, that being my teacher. Writing an argumentative research paper is something I had yet to accomplish in my college career. Not only was it thought provoking but this paper challenged me in many ways, such as, knowing who I should be directing throughout the essay to as well as the simple steps of organizing my thoughts and ideas. Also, simply reflecting on what information needs to be apart of the essay and what doesn't. While writing for academic reasons I would always write for the grade, not for the purpose to write and truly convince the reader that what I am writing about is in fact important. I have learned that when writing an argumentative research paper you are writing for an audience of people not just to one person. You are writing to convince the reader why they should care about the topic, and the reader should be able to feel that passion in your writing. You are writing to broaden the thoughts regarding this topic to whom ever chooses to read your paper not just for that grade. Thinking of who I should direct my paper to is something I still struggle with, however, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Becoming A Better Writer : Writing Upon entering Columbia College, writing was one of my weaker areas. It was very important that I gained the necessary knowledge and confidence to become a better writer. I didn't know how to express myself and felt as though my writing was not my interest. As a result of taking English 101, I have gained a better understanding on how to properly research and build a satisfactory paper. Every paper that was assigned seemed like a struggle to complete. Before entering this class, I did not know the meaning of a thesis or why it was important, however, I obtained this skill quickly. I noticed that every paper has an argument and the thesis helps clarify the rebuttal. Now, I have a new outlook on writing. It's a way to express my thoughts and allow others to see things through my eyes. There is no doubt that I still have a long way to go, but I know if I continue to write, I will get better. Just as I developed more skills in class, the various papers assigned helped to better structure the writer in me. In addition, the subject areas were not only interesting, but very informative and made it much easier to write about my experiences. This portfolio demonstrates the strongest and the weakest of my writing as a first year college student and as a rising professional of psychology major. As psychology students, we think beyond the norm and obtain enormous amounts of research for proof, similar to English majors. As a result of Columbia College being a liberal art institution, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. How to Resolve Conflict Essay Conflict is in inevitable part of our everyday lives. Since no two people view things in the exact same manner, disagreement will most certainly arise at some point in time. Conflict is simply a difference of opinion and is considered to be a normal part of our everyday lives. There are several different forms of conflict and not all of them are considered to be bad. This paper will discuss the causes of conflict, the different types of conflict, and barriers to conflict. According to Communication Research Associates, conflict is a condition of imbalance within an individual (Communication Research Associates, 2005, p. 178). Keep in mind that just as there are disadvantages to conflict, there are also several advantages. In order to...show more content... For example, if you are at work and walk by someone's desk and accidently knock their pen on the floor. All of sudden, the person lashes out and starts to curse at you. Knowing that this is not the norm for your coworker, it would safe to assume that they are under some form of stress or have other things on their mind. By knowing this, it becomes easier to respond in a more responsible, tempered, and appropriate, manner. Sometimes ego can become a cause for conflict as well. There may come a time when someone is wrong about something or they may have made a mistake but they refuse to admit it. Because they have such a high ego, they may become self–protective of their situation, therefore causing conflict because they refuse to admit they were wrong. Instead they may choose to become persistent in standing their ground, whether they are right or wrong. During communication, if the intended goals are not clearly identified, there is a greater possibility for error and it could further aggravate a situation, causing conflict. Because each individual is different there are bound to be clashes within certain personality types. For example, if someone prefers to discuss everything in detail and I prefer to get straight to the point then we could have a personality clash because we are not seeing things eye–to–eye. They may view me as being incompetent or irresponsible while I would Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. My Writing Skills Improved Over The Last Semester My Writing Skills have improved Over the Last Semester While attending writing class, I learned about the 4 steps in writing, bases for revising, organizing, and connecting specific information, and I also learned about the different types of essays such as descriptive, narrative, process, cause and effect and argumentative essay. I have been a student at Milwaukee Area Technical College for 1 semester, and over the course of my enrollment I have grown and learned more that I knew prior to attending this writing course. Participating in this writing class has taught me so much more than stuff about literature and language, it has taught me another way of expressing myself. I have learned here how to write and express myself, how to think for myself, and how to find the answers to the things that I don 't know. Most importantly I have learned how important technique, outlines and organization are. My goal in this paper is to inform writers about how my writing skills have improved. Learning about the different type of writing styles and steps of writing was the most interesting. Descriptive essays are my favorite to read and write. If I was to write about a person, I would select a dominant impression of the person using details to convey that impression. I would also choose details to support the topic sentence. Descriptive essays help give readers vivid image in their mind. When I write descriptive essays, I use 4 steps ; I select a subject, Select details that support my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
