sentences in the narrative. Persuasive text – The persuasive text is about the over use of plastic bags within super markets, patricianly directed at
Woolworths for this assignment. The reason why this issue was chosen for this assignment was because throughout early 2017 the news kept
showing the over use of plastic bags within Australia. By watching and listening to the issues of plastic within Australia. The audience is for
Woolworths manager within each store; but could also be looked at by employees as well. This would intrigue Woolworth managers as one of their
products is affecting the earth, human health and society. The persuasive text is in a form of a written letter. By writing it in a letter it can express
ideas through materials as this would be very difficult to achieve in an email, news paper article or other forms of informing people about issues. The
structure that was used in the persuasive text was letter form. This allows the issue to be introduced earlier on and the organisation of paragraphs with
detail to support facts/opinions. By introducing the topic early, it will help the reader understand the damage plastic bags are causing to the earth. Also
by organising paragraphs in different sections allows each paragraph in a text contains a

On the evening of June 5, 2015, it was the day of my graduation at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic School. I was somewhat nervous, but yet confident
and proud of myself that I made it this far in my academic career, and to graduate was a bittersweet moment in my life. The sweet part was that I
graduated and I was about to start a new chapter in my life which was high school! However, I didn't want to leave the school because everybody at that
school was like a part of my family. When that day finally came, I was ready to enter in the Church with my class to begin the ceremony. Actually,
before we had the actual ceremony; we celebrated with a mass dedicated to the graduates. I delivered the opening speech thanking everybody for

For the diploma, I was very excited to get my diploma. When my name was called so I could get my diploma, my family cheered for me as I was
proceeding up to the altar to get the paper that says that I had officially graduated the eighth grade. I was a little embarrassed because the principal
said before, to clap at the end when everybody got their diploma. Right after the diplomas, we presented ourselves to the audience that we were
officially graduated! When I turned my tassel, I actually got one little strand on my tongue which I thought was a little funny at the time. After the
presentation of the class and the turning of the tassels, we went out in the same manner as we walked in. After the graduation ceremony ended, my
fellow graduates and I cheered for a couple minutes as we were walking back to our homeroom class to return the graduation gown and cap back to
our homeroom teacher. We then had our pictures taken with our families, our teachers, and of course, our colleagues! Looking back, I had a great
graduation ceremony with my fellow classmates and our last time all together as a class was a memorable day that I had which was our graduation on

Graduation is so close; I can almost see it. I have been dreaming about this day for such a long time. As much as I am excited to finally graduate, I
cannot help but feel nervous and scared. I guess it is just the fear of the unknown that we all have. It is hard to believe that soon I will go to university
and study medicine. Many people have told me that university is harder than school, but I refuse to believe that. I just do not understand how could
studying things that you are passionate about be difficult. I guess I will just have to wait and see who is right. I am excited to face all the new
experiences and challenges that I will encounter.
Graduation is finally here. Parents and students are all starting to enter the graduation hall. The air is filled with joy and happiness, and the sounds of
music and clapping are everywhere. Some parents are crying from happiness, and some are cheering with joy. My parents are doing both at the same
time. My name finally appears on the big white screen at the front of the hall. It is my turn to receive my diploma. A rush of excitement overwhelms
my heart, but, at the same time, I can't help but feel nervous. My legs are...show more content...
First of all, I cannot wait to graduate from school and go to university. Secondly, I am so excited to go to Germany and study medicine. Not only that,
but I also long to be a doctor like my parents, and, finally, be totally independent, and start my life. Hopefully, by then, I will know how to cook and
organize my room, but I seriously doubt that. My parents always say success does not come easily. Therefore, although I must undertake a lot of
risks and challenges in the future, I am happy to go through each and every one. I also know that I will do my best to overcome these challenges,
because every piece and bit of effort I put in, makes me closer to make my dreams come

Descriptive Essay On Graduation Day
Monday, May 16th, graduation day. It's 5:37 in the morning and I remember this cause I never wake up earlier than 8 unless I have to, but today I
didn't have to. It's the day culminating twelve years of hard work and dedication into a three hour ceremony in which I will actually have to do
something with my life other than a routine I believe I've perfected throughout these last four years. I roll over and pick up my phone, a dim light
comes through a slit in my window shades just to remind me how early it actually is. I can't fall back asleep so I decide to get out of bed. I sit up on
my bed rubbing my eyes trying to make sense of the room around me, I may have lived here for 18 years but I can never find the cord to my ceiling
light. I...show more content...
I however head toward the light that is just cresting the horizon. I continue walking not paying attention to where I'm going, I've walked it so
many times that it just comes naturally. I finally get to where I'm going, a little pond only a few minutes away from my house. As I grab my
lighter from my left pocket and my orange flavored Swisher Sweet from my right, I can not help but think of my friends and how much I will miss
them. I lean on the railing as I light it and watch the smoke blend in with early morning mist rising from the water only a foot or so. I keep
thinking about everyone I know and how all of my life is about to start changing. I hear little splashes from fish catching the bugs unlucky enough
to have fallen in the water. Those bugs lives are completely over and I think mine could end up that way too. I feel the warmth of the fire start
warming my finger telling my it's done. I flick the last bit out into the water and I hear a small splash. I tell myself, "It's okay to move on". I'm back at
home in my shower, I've always rather enjoyed showers. I've never liked the rain or water or snow. But something about feeling water cascade down
your body, warming you up as it goes really gets me. I listen as the song "Last Night" by G–Eazy ft. Kyle starts its slow build up. I've always liked to
listen to music, whether it be the beat and instrumentals of a song, or the meaning of the lyrics, I've always had an appreciation for music. There's

The Day Of My High School Graduation Speech
When we were younger, I believe we all once wished to become adults fast so that we get to do things on our own. As for me, I have never imagined
that I would graduate from high school. I didn't expect myself to go that far and of course I have never thought about where I am today, a college
student. Therefore, the moment that I graduated from high school meant a lot to me. It was the moment that made me be the best out of me, and the
moment that helped me coming back to the reality.
May 24, 2014 was the day of my high school graduation ceremony. I somehow felt unready and uncomfortable inside. I did not want to leave my
school, my teachers, and especially my friends. Apart from that, I still wanted to wear my school uniform to school. I am the type of person that
doesn't want to think what to wear to school the next day. It seems like I am a lazy person, but the uniform also gave me the feeling of identity, that
I actually belonged to a community. Even though after the ceremony we still had to go back to school to finish our final exams, but that would not
be the same as our normal school days. I know that the door is just closed temporarily and it will open again so that I can step out into the real world.
Yet inside me, there was something that held me back and not willing to move on. I was not yet ready to start a new beginning in a completely
different country where my parents won't be around, and I have to do everything on my own.

My High school Graduation Day Like many students, I waited for the day of my high school graduation ever since I started high school. I waited
for that day to come with patient. I also wanted to see my parent's excitement, and the proud moments they have waited for. I didn't believe that
graduation will be very emotional. The emotional moments started when I put my cap and gown on. Then the memories started to come, first
thing that came to my mind was how did I survive school with my ADD. I have always struggled with school due to my ADD. I was passing my
classes with average grades even though I was doing my best, and working hard on my assignments. At the same time, I was feeling nervous
thinking about walking down to the stage and receiving my diploma. The more I was thinking about my big day, the more overwhelming I became
as I was going to start a whole new step in life. I was very proud of myself on that day. I was very pleased that I celebrated that day with my family and
friends, I was proud of myself because I challenged myself to pass high School, and made my family proud. Then, as I walked to the stage to receive
my diploma, my heart was beating fast, and my face was turning red. When the principal called out my name, I walked with pride, shook his hand,
and got my diploma. During these moments, I heard a loud cheering from family and friends. Then I walked down the stairs, and held my diploma
high toward the side my family were sitting, and their cheering got louder, and I became happier. After I went back to my seat, I was looking at my
diploma and started thinking how I successfully folded one chapter in my life, and how to start opening a whole new one by going to college. At that
time, I was thinking about how excited college could be, meeting new people, more mature, their thinking will be different. I also thought college
will be my new path way to real life. Moreover, I looked around at my friends as the ceremony was getting close to the end. I was getting emotional
as I had to say good bye to most of my friends, it was very hard for me to think about not seeing some of them again because they were planning to
move and attend out of state college. The ceremony ended with throwing

The Most Important Day Of My Life
The Next Step
Throughout my life, there were many days that were significant; however there is only one day that stands from the rest. The most important day of
my life is the day I graduated high school. Graduating high school was an emotional day because I felt prepared to exit one stage of my life and
optimistic for the next step in my life.
The day I graduated high school is the most important day of my life because I experienced a euphoric feeling. The excessive weight on my shoulders
was released and I felt relieved. Throughout high school, I endured many sleepless nights due to homework that piled up because I was horrible at
time–management. Also, procrastination always got the best of me and I spent many late nights drinking coffee to stay awake in order to study for
quizzes and finals. High school definitely challenged me and I developed into a new version of myself after I graduated. My graduation day was a
rollercoaster of emotions because I was anxious on the drive to school because of the tremendous amount of traffic. Naturally, stress came over me as
I was about to arrive late to my own graduation. Truthfully, I was running late because I spent so much time straightening my thick, curly hair and
applying makeup. After I applied some dark pink eyeshadow throughout my eyelids using a soft synthetic brush, I quickly applied a muted pink
lipstick and rushed out of my room. Unfortunately, the time I spent applying my makeup was wasted because as soon as I

Graduation
Through out life people go through so many hardships. Whether it be good or bad there is always something that comes out of the situation. One of
the most exciting but yet scariest events would be graduation. For a lot of people, graduating from high school is a goal. It takes a lot of time and
effort to achieve that goal. In the long run, it opens a lot of opportunities for people to succeed. Graduation is the end of high school, and the
beginning to life. I can almost remember that day like it was yesterday, I awoke like on any other school day. It was a gorgeous May morning, therays

Once I was finished, I gathered up my cap and gown and my car keys and headed out the door. All the graduates had to meet in the high school library
an hour before the ceremonies started, and I promised one of my best friends Tony that we would go together. I knocked on his back door and let
myself in like I always do. All of his family members were running throughout the house trying to get ready. I asked his mom where Tony was and
she proceeded to tell me that he was in the bathroom getting ready. I tapped on the door and walked in. He was standing in front of the mirror
with his cap and gown on. He look me straight in the eyes and said," Can you believe that we are about to graduate?" I replied," No, it really hasn't
set in yet." Tony finished getting ready, and then we left for the high school. The parking lot was filled with all the other seniors' cars. Tony and I
walked into the library ten minutes late like usual, and the principal had already started giving instructions. I found my place in line and then was all
ears. I couldn't help but look around at all the others. Smiles were plastered on their faces as if they had heard a hilarious joke. Once the principal
concluded his speech, the whole senior class paraded down the hallway to the commons in two uniform lines stopping just outside the gymnasium
doors. We could hear the band warming up and playing songs. All the people that were standing around me were bubbling

Stepping upon a simple stage was the best thing I could have ever done. Overseeing the multitude that was there to witness my every word, every
tremble, every emotion, and every heart beat, was then that I realized that the sentiment was real. It was essentially the end of time and I could not
bear to hold back what I no intentions of doing. Cry. Tears of joy darted down my face as I walked across the stage and received my ultimate gift.
With fancy inscription, my gift was entitled "Class of 2009". I had just graduated. "Ok seniors, everyone settle down and take your seat with your
name on it". The principle conducted everyone as we prepared to get ready for our practice graduation walk. Amusement and volume suffocated the

I could sense the stares glaring upon me as I switched positions every second in my chair. Two hours wasted out of my life before the orator called
my name. With a shamble walk, insensible arms, and a tilted head I deliberated myself across the front of the gym and out the door. One of my
classmates ran out the door and past me with glee assuring me that she would see me on Monday, the day of our graduation. Saturday and Sunday
went by fast. Vowing that God had cut off at least twelve hours off my weekend, Monday morning arrived. I had to be at the coliseum at nine a.m.
I woke up at eight thirty on the dot. With no essential worries and not a care in the world what I looked like, I merely jumped out of bed and put
my graduation dress, cap, and gown on. In six minutes flat I was ready to go. I made it out my room and past the mirror wall right before I was
about to leave. Looking at myself I knew I looked unacceptable, but my mind could not lead me to care. Right before I could make it out the door my
mom vented her words of refutation. "Where do you think you are going? You did not bother to brush your hair, wash your face nor take ashower."
Thinking quickly, I managed to use time as my excuse and scampered out the door to avoid any more questions. When I arrived at the coliseum, I was
quite confused considering I did not listening to anything the principal had stated at practice graduation

"Graduation Day"
As the beautiful sky happily accompany sunrays, that shined down on the entrance of the field house where the ceremony of my graduation took
place. Someone above must have known it was my graduation day and blessed me with a beautiful day. I was so excited, that the night before the
graduation I couldn't sleep at all. I tossed and turned all night, thinking about the graduation and if he'd even show up. I waited for this moment for
four long years and I will make the best of it.
The entrance of the field house was filled with students, families, and school officials and conversation was excitedly exchange from one friend to

ways to celebrate, I was left with a hollowness. How could sadness be present on such a day that is designated for feeling such happiness, laughter,
and joy? Externally I appeared ecstatic but internally I had given up. As we begun to exit the field house along with many other families I had given
myself a pep talk. This day was my day and I will make the most of it no matter what. Over all the hollering, I heard a faint but distinct voice call out
for me. "Ashley!" I thought to myself there's probably numerous other people with the same name, and I continued to walk. "Pumpkin." Someone
shouted. That word caught my full attention and a chill had set over my body. I paused, thought about how I'd react at the sight of him, and began
to turn around. Standing a few strides away from me appeared my dad. He was standing the same height as when I last saw him but now with a bit
more weight around the waist. His hair combed back, wavy, and as black as ever. Wearing a short sleeve black button up shirt tucked into his dark
blue jeans boarded by a leather belt with a large buckle. Worn out, oily, and scuffed boots upon his battered feet and upon his face was a smile. The
smile he displayed was the largest I've ever witnessed. His smile reached ear to ear and every pearly white on

Personal Narrative Essay : My Graduation Day
Graduation Day
Waking up from my sleep, I screamed loud so my parents could hear me today one is of the most monumental days in my life . Yes!! After twelve
long drawn out complicated and unrelieved years the wait was almost over. Jumping out of my bed landing straight on my feet I swiftly ran into my
parents room, but to my surprise the room was completely empty. Mom shouting to the top of my lungs almost busting them! Where are you? I am in
the kitchen cooking breakfast and stop screaming you was not raised in the back of a barn. Smelling hotcakes, eggs, and bacon I ran to the kitchen as
if it was the last supper. Sitting down at the table my mother advised to hurry up because we had numberless amounts of things to do before the
extensive day. Nine hours away, let the countdown begin.
From the looks of it today was going to be the most disorganized day of my life. Meanwhile, it was supposed to fly by smoothly without hesitation,
but nothing goes as planned. On the verge of pulling my hair out and it was only morning not even close to five o'clock yet. Graduation ceremony was
less than nine hours away and I had nothing to show for it. No dress, shoes, or jewelry and I need all these things for graduation. To top it all off
neither one of my parents or myself had even started to decorate the building for my celebration after the ceremony. So much to do in so little time I
felt like I was in an hourglass and the time was slowly but surely whining down.
Hurry up!!

Graduation Speech : My Graduation
Hello and Welcome and Thank you for joining me in celebrating my graduation. This has been the milestone that many of us have been looking
forward to, but first I would like to say congratulations to all students of the Class Of 2015! We are the last class that can be held on a hand. If you
haven 't noticed, I am referring to the 5. I attended Bishop McDevitt High School. Now I remember when I was in 7th and 8th grade, I was not fond of
going to high school. I pictured highschool as this big place where I'd seem to be so small. I did not think that I would fit in. That could have
ruined my high school journey. If you do not have a open mind, you will never get anywhere in life. That is almost what happened. I was open to
people. Now that may have backfired on some occasions. In highschool you win some and you lose some. You will not always walk out with the
same person you walked in with. Luckily I have. In 6th Grade I met Brianna. We instantly clicked when she first got on my cheese bus. My first
thought was, who is this little skinny girl, but it turned out that the little skinny girl would eventually become my best friend. Never had a dull
moment or argument. Never could think of us having a problem. She has been there for me, even when I was wrong on things. If it wasn 't for
Brianna, my high school journey would have been rough. So I'm here to say thank you. Thank You for being you and being a good friend. If you
haven't noticed, that is why I am up here for the Thank

High School Graduation Day
Many people have experienced the over whelming excitement that you feel as you approach high school graduation day, and for me, that's a day
that I will never forget. The amount of emotions that you feel on graduation day is unbelievable, and I have yet to experience anything else like it. I
can remember feeling anxious to celebrate the big day with my friends and family, while at the same time I was panicking thinking about having to

As the end of the night approached us, I couldn't stop thinking about how many mixed emotions I had about starting a whole new chapter in my
life. I couldn't wait to go to college, meet all new people, get a degree so that I could start my career path, but I knew that meant I had to say goodbye
to my two best friends, who were moving several hours away from me. This was one of the hardest things I had ever had to do in my life. We all cried
a little, and then made promises to keep in touch, and then we were off into the real world! I was very happy to be at this point in my life, but I was
scared deep down inside.
When I look back on this day now, I still remember every detail as if it was yesterday. I was so proud, and happy to be able to celebrate such an
amazing day with all of my friends and family. I know I will never forget how embarrassed I was walking across the stage in front of all of those
people, feeling famous after taking so many pictures, making our final memories together at our graduation parties, and then being a nervous wreck
when it was time to go out into the world without my best friends at my side. High school graduation day was a very emotional day for me, but it was

Essay about Graduation: A Defining Moment
Graduation is an exciting time in a person's life, especially a high school graduation. When I think of family and friends gathering together to celebrate
a joyous occasion, I feel I accomplished my strongest goal. It never occurred to me that graduation would be the end of my youth and the start of
adulthood. Graduating from high school was an influential event that gave me an altered outlook on my existence. Life before graduation, preparing for
graduation day, and commencement day overwhelmed me for reality.
Life before graduation was a struggle for me. I lived in a home that seemed to bring me nothing but pain and anger. I watched someone close to me die
little by little every day. I did not live a normal childhood because I was a...show more content...
I was working harder than ever to finish high school early and it had really paid off. I prepared and prepared but it wasn't enough to my surprise.
Graduation was not that far away and actuality was about to strike me like a lightning bolt in the butt.
The most significant practice of the year approached us seniors. The staff put us into groups to keep all the seniors in order. We all were divided
into sections and labeled after letters and numbers. Soon after, all the senior class entered the auditorium in an orderly fashion. The practice had
us recall memories of our freshmen to senior years. I saw a video that showed pictures of my youth to a young adult. I begin to think of the past
and how much fun I had growing up. I also thought about how I would never see some of my friends again. After some time, the staff wanted us to
practice walking across the stage. I did not quite understand why we needed to do this; I figured they wanted us to see how fast our life would flash
in front of our eyes. At last, practice was over and I was able to go pick up my cap and gown. During this time, I thought about the next day and how
it would be the end of another chapter in my years.
Graduation day arrived and I had butterflies out of this world. It seemed as if I misplaced everything. I could not find my dress. My family came from
one state to another. I finally got to the church were the commencement was going to be held. I

Graduation Day Book Report
I am reading Graduation Day by Joelle Charbonneau, and I am on page 268. To this point, the book is about a teenage girl who passes The Testing
and progresses onto the university where she is faced with multiple challenges. During these tests, she must decide who to trust and what the right
solution is. A wrong answer could mean death not only for her but for her country too. In this paper, I will be predicting and connecting. G– predicting

I can connect to the book because just like the main character, Cia, I live in a small town. In her town, all of the citizens know each other. I can link
this to my life because anywhere I go in my town I encounter someone I know. Another way I can relate to her is because both of our towns have
condensed and spread–out areas. In her town, she lives on the outskirts where less people live, but there is also an area within her town that is very
crowded with people and buildings. My town is similar in design to hers because there are areas of people that are separated or distant from other
places and there are closer and connected areas too. Alongside that, I can also connect to this book because I have a twin just like Will. In the
book, Will and his twin brother, Dill, are always together and making jokes. Likewise, my twin, Anna, and I know each other so well, its hard not
to be happy in each other's presence. In mind of that, I can also connect to the book because I know how hard it is to be away from my twin. In the
story, Will is boiling with rage to hear that his brother did not pass The Testing and is being redirected away from him. It takes him days of lashing
out before he is calm enough to regain his composure. I can relate to him because it is difficult for me to be away from my sister, especially for a long
period of time like Will and his brother. As has been noted, I can

Graduation Speech : My Graduation Essay
My Graduation A Graduation ceremony is one of the major steps in life, it marks the start of new changes in our lives. It ushers us into growing up
and be responsible for our actions. It marks a new dawn of embracing life experiences, cultivation of good work ethics and eventually culminates in
chasing our dreams. On my graduation day, I woke up to the sweet aroma of the breakfast my sister was making. I sat down to eat when the food was
ready. It took me about 2 hours to finish bathing. I wore my African clothes (it was a slim waist top, with a curvy skirt sew with African cloth).
After I was done wearing my clothes my sister tried several ways of styling my scarf so my cap could fit on my head. I had on very big braids. So the
task was nearly impossible but she figured out a way to make it look very simple yet stylish. I sat down to wear my shoes, I looked at my phone
and said. "Omg guys am going to be late if we don't leave this instant." Nobody replied .I went to check on my sister and she was putting on her
lipstick like we had all the time in the world. All of a sudden I starting thinking, what if am late, I wouldn't be able to participate in the ceremony. I
got scared my heart started racing really fast. I was in my own thoughts when all of a sudden, I heard my brother say." time to go". I smiled, and
sighed I was really relieved. On our way to school my sister was playing my favorite African songs (hip hop). I was usually the type that sings

For most people their graduation day is one of the best days of their lives. No more high school, and for some it means that they are now able to
move out on their own and embark on the independent journey of college. In my case my graduation day started out to be a great day but turned out
to be one of the worst. It is almost as if I wish I never had a ceremony. If there wasn't graduation ceremony there wouldn't have been an accident. On
June 13, 2011, I woke up a happy and excited 17 year old for it was my graduation day and that meant no more high school, no more nagging teachers,
and no more drama. I met my friends and my boyfriend Andrew in the school parking lot and away we went to practice graduation. After we had

After we had walked out and took our seats I couldn't help but to stare at the empty seat next to me and wonder where he was at. I called his house

that there was an accident and after we graduate they will tell us where Andrew is at. As soon as Ryan got off the phone he told me not to worry
and that he probably broke his leg or something and that he was in a hospital somewhere and that we will know where after we get our diplomas.
After a couple of speeches and a few diplomas later it was almost my row's turn to walk across the stage and claim our diplomas. Right before we were
to stand up and walk toward the stage I got the worst news of my life. I got a call from Andrews frantic older brother. He asked if I had walked yet
I told him no and demanded to know where Andrew was. After a few minutes of heavy breaths I heard the words, " Jenn, Andrews.... Andrews
dead." The words echoed in my ears. I dropped my phone and just sat there. I couldn't move, speak or even cry, I just sat there and stared. After a few
minutes I guess you could say it hit me. The tears came rolling off my face. Advisors and school employees' ran to me

Graduation Speech : My Family
As my day starts at 7:00 AM every morning I am reminded of everything that needs to be done during the day there are never enough hours to get
everything done. These are the days that I wonder if I have what it takes to be all of the things I need to be to everyone who depends on me as a
mother, wife, career woman, sister, friend and now a college student. My three children are not young so they do not need daycare or every single minute
of my free time anymore. However, they are busy, athletic, social butterflies who keep me on the go allthe time. It is a hard but possible journey to be a
successful student while balancing my time with a career and family.
The first step in balancing my studies with family is getting my support system in place . I need the support of my family. My three kids and
husband are the biggest part of my life. I need them to understand what an important step this is for me and how much I will need their support and I
will not be able to do this without them. I make sure I am available for my family members when they need me. I am one of eight children managing
all of my siblings could be a full–time job all by itself. We are very close and very close in age most of us live within a twenty– mile radius. Everyone
is always in each other 's business. Boundaries or personal space is not something any of them knows anything about. Who ever thought group texting
was a good idea obviously didn't have seven siblings. I am not always available for whatever

Maya Angelou's Essay 'My Own Graduation'
My Own Graduation
According to the National Education Association, 98% of Latinas want to graduate high school, but only 59% actually do (Flannery). Being of
Hispanic ethnicity and growing up in a predominately white town, I can say that I had the privilege to never feel this stat on my shoulders.
Growing up in today's day and age in a very good town, it is great to say that more than everyone I have come across in my school district has given
me the benefit of the doubt and has always pushed me to be my very best. However, there are always the people that think that one is limited to what
they can and cannot do, in my case they were wrong, and more often than not it's the people that are least expected to put people down that do. Maya
Angelou...show more content...
During her graduation, two speeches were given, one was from a fellow black student who directed his speech in the way of pathos in which he
tried to evoke emotion and motivate all the students to be their best despite their backgrounds. The other speaker was a white man, who was an
elected official and went more the way of ethos, using ethical words, which made him lose the audience. He implied that all the white kids would
go on to do great things and all the black kids would go to be athletes or do some sort of social work. In Maya's essay titled "Graduation," Angelou
mentions "The white kids were going to have a chance to become Galileos and Madame Curies and Edisons and Gauguins, and our boys (the girls
weren't even in on it) would try to be Jesse Owenses and Joe Louises" (51). From this quote I can resonate with the fact that people, including my
mother thought that white kids had more of an opportunity to be great as opposed to minorities, which is why she moved me so I could be a Galileo,
or a Madame Curie. Also, that shows how I might relate to Maya in the fact that even though they are two completely different times, the reality is that
based on race or being colored there is a pre–placed weight on one's shoulder to break past that. Another quote that resonated with me personally is
when Angelou discusses the speech made by Henry Reed– "I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul." (Reed qtd. in Angelou 53). I
personally think that this quote compares Maya and I's thinking because she felt like she had no control over her life and it was determined, and at
one point my mother felt like that was going to be my path, however we both chose to be the "captain of our own soul". I could of chose to be a
stereotype and be like the majority but I decided to take my life into my own hands

Narrative Analysis Of Graduation Day

  • 1. Narrative Analysis Of Graduation Day Narrative – The audience based on this narrative is for young teen's in high school. High school students would be interested in this story as it relates to the struggles in school and the issues that come across that may feel like it is having an effect on their life. This narrative shows teen's that many things can affect you in life, no matter how big or small they are. It also shows that everyone needs help, to stand by your friends and family through hard times. The audience should view the story as moments that they shouldn't take for granted, but also to help a close friend or family member around them in the best and worst of times as everyone needs that is always willing to be there for. The inspiration for the storyline came ...show more content... Simple sentences were used for a range of sentences over the story to explain one idea making the paragraph clear. Similes were used for one or two sentences in the narrative. Persuasive text – The persuasive text is about the over use of plastic bags within super markets, patricianly directed at Woolworths for this assignment. The reason why this issue was chosen for this assignment was because throughout early 2017 the news kept showing the over use of plastic bags within Australia. By watching and listening to the issues of plastic within Australia. The audience is for Woolworths manager within each store; but could also be looked at by employees as well. This would intrigue Woolworth managers as one of their products is affecting the earth, human health and society. The persuasive text is in a form of a written letter. By writing it in a letter it can express ideas through materials as this would be very difficult to achieve in an email, news paper article or other forms of informing people about issues. The structure that was used in the persuasive text was letter form. This allows the issue to be introduced earlier on and the organisation of paragraphs with detail to support facts/opinions. By introducing the topic early, it will help the reader understand the damage plastic bags are causing to the earth. Also by organising paragraphs in different sections allows each paragraph in a text contains a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. On the evening of June 5, 2015, it was the day of my graduation at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic School. I was somewhat nervous, but yet confident and proud of myself that I made it this far in my academic career, and to graduate was a bittersweet moment in my life. The sweet part was that I graduated and I was about to start a new chapter in my life which was high school! However, I didn't want to leave the school because everybody at that school was like a part of my family. When that day finally came, I was ready to enter in the Church with my class to begin the ceremony. Actually, before we had the actual ceremony; we celebrated with a mass dedicated to the graduates. I delivered the opening speech thanking everybody for attending the...show more content... For the diploma, I was very excited to get my diploma. When my name was called so I could get my diploma, my family cheered for me as I was proceeding up to the altar to get the paper that says that I had officially graduated the eighth grade. I was a little embarrassed because the principal said before, to clap at the end when everybody got their diploma. Right after the diplomas, we presented ourselves to the audience that we were officially graduated! When I turned my tassel, I actually got one little strand on my tongue which I thought was a little funny at the time. After the presentation of the class and the turning of the tassels, we went out in the same manner as we walked in. After the graduation ceremony ended, my fellow graduates and I cheered for a couple minutes as we were walking back to our homeroom class to return the graduation gown and cap back to our homeroom teacher. We then had our pictures taken with our families, our teachers, and of course, our colleagues! Looking back, I had a great graduation ceremony with my fellow classmates and our last time all together as a class was a memorable day that I had which was our graduation on June 5, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. My Graduation Essay Graduation is so close; I can almost see it. I have been dreaming about this day for such a long time. As much as I am excited to finally graduate, I cannot help but feel nervous and scared. I guess it is just the fear of the unknown that we all have. It is hard to believe that soon I will go to university and study medicine. Many people have told me that university is harder than school, but I refuse to believe that. I just do not understand how could studying things that you are passionate about be difficult. I guess I will just have to wait and see who is right. I am excited to face all the new experiences and challenges that I will encounter. Graduation is finally here. Parents and students are all starting to enter the graduation hall. The air is filled with joy and happiness, and the sounds of music and clapping are everywhere. Some parents are crying from happiness, and some are cheering with joy. My parents are doing both at the same time. My name finally appears on the big white screen at the front of the hall. It is my turn to receive my diploma. A rush of excitement overwhelms my heart, but, at the same time, I can't help but feel nervous. My legs are...show more content... First of all, I cannot wait to graduate from school and go to university. Secondly, I am so excited to go to Germany and study medicine. Not only that, but I also long to be a doctor like my parents, and, finally, be totally independent, and start my life. Hopefully, by then, I will know how to cook and organize my room, but I seriously doubt that. My parents always say success does not come easily. Therefore, although I must undertake a lot of risks and challenges in the future, I am happy to go through each and every one. I also know that I will do my best to overcome these challenges, because every piece and bit of effort I put in, makes me closer to make my dreams come Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Descriptive Essay On Graduation Day Monday, May 16th, graduation day. It's 5:37 in the morning and I remember this cause I never wake up earlier than 8 unless I have to, but today I didn't have to. It's the day culminating twelve years of hard work and dedication into a three hour ceremony in which I will actually have to do something with my life other than a routine I believe I've perfected throughout these last four years. I roll over and pick up my phone, a dim light comes through a slit in my window shades just to remind me how early it actually is. I can't fall back asleep so I decide to get out of bed. I sit up on my bed rubbing my eyes trying to make sense of the room around me, I may have lived here for 18 years but I can never find the cord to my ceiling light. I...show more content... I however head toward the light that is just cresting the horizon. I continue walking not paying attention to where I'm going, I've walked it so many times that it just comes naturally. I finally get to where I'm going, a little pond only a few minutes away from my house. As I grab my lighter from my left pocket and my orange flavored Swisher Sweet from my right, I can not help but think of my friends and how much I will miss them. I lean on the railing as I light it and watch the smoke blend in with early morning mist rising from the water only a foot or so. I keep thinking about everyone I know and how all of my life is about to start changing. I hear little splashes from fish catching the bugs unlucky enough to have fallen in the water. Those bugs lives are completely over and I think mine could end up that way too. I feel the warmth of the fire start warming my finger telling my it's done. I flick the last bit out into the water and I hear a small splash. I tell myself, "It's okay to move on". I'm back at home in my shower, I've always rather enjoyed showers. I've never liked the rain or water or snow. But something about feeling water cascade down your body, warming you up as it goes really gets me. I listen as the song "Last Night" by G–Eazy ft. Kyle starts its slow build up. I've always liked to listen to music, whether it be the beat and instrumentals of a song, or the meaning of the lyrics, I've always had an appreciation for music. There's something about this Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. The Day Of My High School Graduation Speech When we were younger, I believe we all once wished to become adults fast so that we get to do things on our own. As for me, I have never imagined that I would graduate from high school. I didn't expect myself to go that far and of course I have never thought about where I am today, a college student. Therefore, the moment that I graduated from high school meant a lot to me. It was the moment that made me be the best out of me, and the moment that helped me coming back to the reality. May 24, 2014 was the day of my high school graduation ceremony. I somehow felt unready and uncomfortable inside. I did not want to leave my school, my teachers, and especially my friends. Apart from that, I still wanted to wear my school uniform to school. I am the type of person that doesn't want to think what to wear to school the next day. It seems like I am a lazy person, but the uniform also gave me the feeling of identity, that I actually belonged to a community. Even though after the ceremony we still had to go back to school to finish our final exams, but that would not be the same as our normal school days. I know that the door is just closed temporarily and it will open again so that I can step out into the real world. Yet inside me, there was something that held me back and not willing to move on. I was not yet ready to start a new beginning in a completely different country where my parents won't be around, and I have to do everything on my own. On the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. My High school Graduation Day Like many students, I waited for the day of my high school graduation ever since I started high school. I waited for that day to come with patient. I also wanted to see my parent's excitement, and the proud moments they have waited for. I didn't believe that graduation will be very emotional. The emotional moments started when I put my cap and gown on. Then the memories started to come, first thing that came to my mind was how did I survive school with my ADD. I have always struggled with school due to my ADD. I was passing my classes with average grades even though I was doing my best, and working hard on my assignments. At the same time, I was feeling nervous thinking about walking down to the stage and receiving my diploma. The more I was thinking about my big day, the more overwhelming I became as I was going to start a whole new step in life. I was very proud of myself on that day. I was very pleased that I celebrated that day with my family and friends, I was proud of myself because I challenged myself to pass high School, and made my family proud. Then, as I walked to the stage to receive my diploma, my heart was beating fast, and my face was turning red. When the principal called out my name, I walked with pride, shook his hand, and got my diploma. During these moments, I heard a loud cheering from family and friends. Then I walked down the stairs, and held my diploma high toward the side my family were sitting, and their cheering got louder, and I became happier. After I went back to my seat, I was looking at my diploma and started thinking how I successfully folded one chapter in my life, and how to start opening a whole new one by going to college. At that time, I was thinking about how excited college could be, meeting new people, more mature, their thinking will be different. I also thought college will be my new path way to real life. Moreover, I looked around at my friends as the ceremony was getting close to the end. I was getting emotional as I had to say good bye to most of my friends, it was very hard for me to think about not seeing some of them again because they were planning to move and attend out of state college. • 7. The Most Important Day Of My Life The Next Step Throughout my life, there were many days that were significant; however there is only one day that stands from the rest. The most important day of my life is the day I graduated high school. Graduating high school was an emotional day because I felt prepared to exit one stage of my life and optimistic for the next step in my life. The day I graduated high school is the most important day of my life because I experienced a euphoric feeling. The excessive weight on my shoulders was released and I felt relieved. Throughout high school, I endured many sleepless nights due to homework that piled up because I was horrible at time–management. Also, procrastination always got the best of me and I spent many late nights drinking coffee to stay awake in order to study for quizzes and finals. High school definitely challenged me and I developed into a new version of myself after I graduated. My graduation day was a rollercoaster of emotions because I was anxious on the drive to school because of the tremendous amount of traffic. Naturally, stress came over me as I was about to arrive late to my own graduation. Truthfully, I was running late because I spent so much time straightening my thick, curly hair and applying makeup. After I applied some dark pink eyeshadow throughout my eyelids using a soft synthetic brush, I quickly applied a muted pink lipstick and rushed out of my room. Unfortunately, the time I spent applying my makeup was wasted because as soon as I Get more content on HelpWriting.net

One of the most exciting but yet scariest events would be graduation. For a lot of people, graduating from high school is a goal. It takes a lot of time and effort to achieve that goal. In the long run, it opens a lot of opportunities for people to succeed. Graduation is the end of high school, and the beginning to life. I can almost remember that day like it was yesterday, I awoke like on any other school day. Once I was finished, I gathered up my cap and gown and my car keys and headed out the door. All the graduates had to meet in the high school library an hour before the ceremonies started, and I promised one of my best friends Tony that we would go together. I knocked on his back door and let myself in like I always do. All of his family members were running throughout the house trying to get ready. I asked his mom where Tony was and she proceeded to tell me that he was in the bathroom getting ready. I tapped on the door and walked in. He was standing in front of the mirror with his cap and gown on. He look me straight in the eyes and said," Can you believe that we are about to graduate?" I replied," No, it really hasn't set in yet." Tony finished getting ready, and then we left for the high school. The parking lot was filled with all the other seniors' cars. Tony and I walked into the library ten minutes late like usual, and the principal had already started giving instructions. I found my place in line and then was all ears. I couldn't help but look around at all the others. Smiles were plastered on their faces as if they had heard a hilarious joke. Once the principal concluded his speech, the whole senior class paraded down the hallway to the commons in two uniform lines stopping just outside the gymnasium doors. We could hear the band warming up and playing songs. All the people that were standing around me were bubbling Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. My Graduation Essay Stepping upon a simple stage was the best thing I could have ever done. Overseeing the multitude that was there to witness my every word, every tremble, every emotion, and every heart beat, was then that I realized that the sentiment was real. It was essentially the end of time and I could not bear to hold back what I no intentions of doing. Cry. Tears of joy darted down my face as I walked across the stage and received my ultimate gift. With fancy inscription, my gift was entitled "Class of 2009". I had just graduated. "Ok seniors, everyone settle down and take your seat with your name on it". The principle conducted everyone as we prepared to get ready for our practice graduation walk. Amusement and volume suffocated the gym as...show more content... I could sense the stares glaring upon me as I switched positions every second in my chair. Two hours wasted out of my life before the orator called my name. With a shamble walk, insensible arms, and a tilted head I deliberated myself across the front of the gym and out the door. One of my classmates ran out the door and past me with glee assuring me that she would see me on Monday, the day of our graduation. Saturday and Sunday went by fast. Vowing that God had cut off at least twelve hours off my weekend, Monday morning arrived. I had to be at the coliseum at nine a.m. I woke up at eight thirty on the dot. With no essential worries and not a care in the world what I looked like, I merely jumped out of bed and put my graduation dress, cap, and gown on. In six minutes flat I was ready to go. I made it out my room and past the mirror wall right before I was about to leave. Looking at myself I knew I looked unacceptable, but my mind could not lead me to care. Right before I could make it out the door my mom vented her words of refutation. "Where do you think you are going? You did not bother to brush your hair, wash your face nor take ashower." Thinking quickly, I managed to use time as my excuse and scampered out the door to avoid any more questions. When I arrived at the coliseum, I was quite confused considering I did not listening to anything the principal had stated at practice graduation Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Someone above must have known it was my graduation day and blessed me with a beautiful day. I was so excited, that the night before the graduation I couldn't sleep at all. I tossed and turned all night, thinking about the graduation and if he'd even show up. I waited for this moment for four long years and I will make the best of it. How could sadness be present on such a day that is designated for feeling such happiness, laughter, and joy? Externally I appeared ecstatic but internally I had given up. As we begun to exit the field house along with many other families I had given myself a pep talk. This day was my day and I will make the most of it no matter what. Over all the hollering, I heard a faint but distinct voice call out for me. "Ashley!" I thought to myself there's probably numerous other people with the same name, and I continued to walk. "Pumpkin." Someone shouted. That word caught my full attention and a chill had set over my body. I paused, thought about how I'd react at the sight of him, and began to turn around. Standing a few strides away from me appeared my dad. He was standing the same height as when I last saw him but now with a bit more weight around the waist. His hair combed back, wavy, and as black as ever. Wearing a short sleeve black button up shirt tucked into his dark blue jeans boarded by a leather belt with a large buckle. Worn out, oily, and scuffed boots upon his battered feet and upon his face was a smile. The smile he displayed was the largest I've ever witnessed. • 11. Personal Narrative Essay : My Graduation Day Graduation Day Waking up from my sleep, I screamed loud so my parents could hear me today one is of the most monumental days in my life . Yes!! After twelve long drawn out complicated and unrelieved years the wait was almost over. Jumping out of my bed landing straight on my feet I swiftly ran into my parents room, but to my surprise the room was completely empty. Mom shouting to the top of my lungs almost busting them! Where are you? I am in the kitchen cooking breakfast and stop screaming you was not raised in the back of a barn. Smelling hotcakes, eggs, and bacon I ran to the kitchen as if it was the last supper. Sitting down at the table my mother advised to hurry up because we had numberless amounts of things to do before the extensive day. Nine hours away, let the countdown begin. From the looks of it today was going to be the most disorganized day of my life. Meanwhile, it was supposed to fly by smoothly without hesitation, but nothing goes as planned. On the verge of pulling my hair out and it was only morning not even close to five o'clock yet. Graduation ceremony was less than nine hours away and I had nothing to show for it. No dress, shoes, or jewelry and I need all these things for graduation. To top it all off neither one of my parents or myself had even started to decorate the building for my celebration after the ceremony. So much to do in so little time I felt like I was in an hourglass and the time was slowly but surely whining down. Hurry up!! Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Graduation Speech : My Graduation Hello and Welcome and Thank you for joining me in celebrating my graduation. This has been the milestone that many of us have been looking forward to, but first I would like to say congratulations to all students of the Class Of 2015! We are the last class that can be held on a hand. If you haven 't noticed, I am referring to the 5. I attended Bishop McDevitt High School. Now I remember when I was in 7th and 8th grade, I was not fond of going to high school. I pictured highschool as this big place where I'd seem to be so small. I did not think that I would fit in. That could have ruined my high school journey. If you do not have a open mind, you will never get anywhere in life. That is almost what happened. I was open to people. Now that may have backfired on some occasions. In highschool you win some and you lose some. You will not always walk out with the same person you walked in with. Luckily I have. In 6th Grade I met Brianna. We instantly clicked when she first got on my cheese bus. My first thought was, who is this little skinny girl, but it turned out that the little skinny girl would eventually become my best friend. Never had a dull moment or argument. Never could think of us having a problem. She has been there for me, even when I was wrong on things. If it wasn 't for Brianna, my high school journey would have been rough. So I'm here to say thank you. Thank You for being you and being a good friend. If you haven't noticed, that is why I am up here for the Thank Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Essay about High School Graduation Day High School Graduation Day Many people have experienced the over whelming excitement that you feel as you approach high school graduation day, and for me, that's a day that I will never forget. The amount of emotions that you feel on graduation day is unbelievable, and I have yet to experience anything else like it. I can remember feeling anxious to celebrate the big day with my friends and family, while at the same time I was panicking thinking about having to walk across the stage in front of that many people. As the end of the night approached us, I couldn't stop thinking about how many mixed emotions I had about starting a whole new chapter in my life. I couldn't wait to go to college, meet all new people, get a degree so that I could start my career path, but I knew that meant I had to say goodbye to my two best friends, who were moving several hours away from me. This was one of the hardest things I had ever had to do in my life. We all cried a little, and then made promises to keep in touch, and then we were off into the real world! I was very happy to be at this point in my life, but I was scared deep down inside. When I look back on this day now, I still remember every detail as if it was yesterday. I was so proud, and happy to be able to celebrate such an amazing day with all of my friends and family. I know I will never forget how embarrassed I was walking across the stage in front of all of those people, feeling famous after taking so many pictures, making our final memories together at our graduation parties, and then being a nervous wreck when it was time to go out into the world without my best friends at my side. • 14. Essay about Graduation: A Defining Moment Graduation is an exciting time in a person's life, especially a high school graduation. When I think of family and friends gathering together to celebrate a joyous occasion, I feel I accomplished my strongest goal. It never occurred to me that graduation would be the end of my youth and the start of adulthood. Graduating from high school was an influential event that gave me an altered outlook on my existence. Life before graduation, preparing for graduation day, and commencement day overwhelmed me for reality. Life before graduation was a struggle for me. I lived in a home that seemed to bring me nothing but pain and anger. I watched someone close to me die little by little every day. I prepared and prepared but it wasn't enough to my surprise. Graduation was not that far away and actuality was about to strike me like a lightning bolt in the butt. The most significant practice of the year approached us seniors. The staff put us into groups to keep all the seniors in order. We all were divided into sections and labeled after letters and numbers. Soon after, all the senior class entered the auditorium in an orderly fashion. The practice had us recall memories of our freshmen to senior years. I saw a video that showed pictures of my youth to a young adult. I begin to think of the past and how much fun I had growing up. I also thought about how I would never see some of my friends again. After some time, the staff wanted us to practice walking across the stage. I did not quite understand why we needed to do this; I figured they wanted us to see how fast our life would flash in front of our eyes. At last, practice was over and I was able to go pick up my cap and gown. During this time, I thought about the next day and how it would be the end of another chapter in my years. Graduation day arrived and I had butterflies out of this world. It seemed as if I misplaced everything. I could not find my dress. My family came from one state to another. I finally got to the church were the commencement was going to be held. I Get more content on HelpWriting.net

To this point, the book is about a teenage girl who passes The Testing and progresses onto the university where she is faced with multiple challenges. During these tests, she must decide who to trust and what the right solution is. A wrong answer could mean death not only for her but for her country too. I can link this to my life because anywhere I go in my town I encounter someone I know. Another way I can relate to her is because both of our towns have condensed and spread–out areas. In her town, she lives on the outskirts where less people live, but there is also an area within her town that is very crowded with people and buildings. My town is similar in design to hers because there are areas of people that are separated or distant from other places and there are closer and connected areas too. Alongside that, I can also connect to this book because I have a twin just like Will. In the book, Will and his twin brother, Dill, are always together and making jokes. Likewise, my twin, Anna, and I know each other so well, its hard not to be happy in each other's presence. In mind of that, I can also connect to the book because I know how hard it is to be away from my twin. In the story, Will is boiling with rage to hear that his brother did not pass The Testing and is being redirected away from him. It takes him days of lashing out before he is calm enough to regain his composure. I can relate to him because it is difficult for me to be away from my sister, especially for a long period of time like Will and his brother. • 16. Graduation Speech : My Graduation Essay My Graduation A Graduation ceremony is one of the major steps in life, it marks the start of new changes in our lives. It ushers us into growing up and be responsible for our actions. It marks a new dawn of embracing life experiences, cultivation of good work ethics and eventually culminates in chasing our dreams. On my graduation day, I woke up to the sweet aroma of the breakfast my sister was making. I sat down to eat when the food was ready. It took me about 2 hours to finish bathing. I wore my African clothes (it was a slim waist top, with a curvy skirt sew with African cloth). After I was done wearing my clothes my sister tried several ways of styling my scarf so my cap could fit on my head. I had on very big braids. So the task was nearly impossible but she figured out a way to make it look very simple yet stylish. I sat down to wear my shoes, I looked at my phone and said. "Omg guys am going to be late if we don't leave this instant." Nobody replied .I went to check on my sister and she was putting on her lipstick like we had all the time in the world. All of a sudden I starting thinking, what if am late, I wouldn't be able to participate in the ceremony. I got scared my heart started racing really fast. I was in my own thoughts when all of a sudden, I heard my brother say." time to go". I smiled, and sighed I was really relieved. No more high school, and for some it means that they are now able to move out on their own and embark on the independent journey of college. In my case my graduation day started out to be a great day but turned out to be one of the worst. It is almost as if I wish I never had a ceremony. If there wasn't graduation ceremony there wouldn't have been an accident. On June 13, 2011, I woke up a happy and excited 17 year old for it was my graduation day and that meant no more high school, no more nagging teachers, and no more drama. His parents had told Ryan that there was an accident and after we graduate they will tell us where Andrew is at. As soon as Ryan got off the phone he told me not to worry and that he probably broke his leg or something and that he was in a hospital somewhere and that we will know where after we get our diplomas. After a couple of speeches and a few diplomas later it was almost my row's turn to walk across the stage and claim our diplomas. Right before we were to stand up and walk toward the stage I got the worst news of my life. I got a call from Andrews frantic older brother. He asked if I had walked yet I told him no and demanded to know where Andrew was. After a few minutes of heavy breaths I heard the words, " Jenn, Andrews.... Andrews dead." The words echoed in my ears. I dropped my phone and just sat there. I couldn't move, speak or even cry, I just sat there and stared. After a few minutes I guess you could say it hit me. These are the days that I wonder if I have what it takes to be all of the things I need to be to everyone who depends on me as a mother, wife, career woman, sister, friend and now a college student. My three children are not young so they do not need daycare or every single minute of my free time anymore. However, they are busy, athletic, social butterflies who keep me on the go allthe time. It is a hard but possible journey to be a successful student while balancing my time with a career and family. The first step in balancing my studies with family is getting my support system in place . I need the support of my family. My three kids and husband are the biggest part of my life. • 19. Maya Angelou's Essay 'My Own Graduation' My Own Graduation According to the National Education Association, 98% of Latinas want to graduate high school, but only 59% actually do (Flannery). Being of Hispanic ethnicity and growing up in a predominately white town, I can say that I had the privilege to never feel this stat on my shoulders. Growing up in today's day and age in a very good town, it is great to say that more than everyone I have come across in my school district has given me the benefit of the doubt and has always pushed me to be my very best. However, there are always the people that think that one is limited to what they can and cannot do, in my case they were wrong, and more often than not it's the people that are least expected to put people down that do. Maya Angelou...show more content... During her graduation, two speeches were given, one was from a fellow black student who directed his speech in the way of pathos in which he tried to evoke emotion and motivate all the students to be their best despite their backgrounds. The other speaker was a white man, who was an elected official and went more the way of ethos, using ethical words, which made him lose the audience. He implied that all the white kids would go on to do great things and all the black kids would go to be athletes or do some sort of social work. In Maya's essay titled "Graduation," Angelou mentions "The white kids were going to have a chance to become Galileos and Madame Curies and Edisons and Gauguins, and our boys (the girls weren't even in on it) would try to be Jesse Owenses and Joe Louises" (51). From this quote I can resonate with the fact that people, including my mother thought that white kids had more of an opportunity to be great as opposed to minorities, which is why she moved me so I could be a Galileo, or a Madame Curie. Also, that shows how I might relate to Maya in the fact that even though they are two completely different times, the reality is that based on race or being colored there is a pre–placed weight on one's shoulder to break past that. Another quote that resonated with me personally is when Angelou discusses the speech made by Henry Reed– "I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul." (Reed qtd. in Angelou 53). I personally think that this quote compares Maya and I's thinking because she felt like she had no control over her life and it was determined, and at one point my mother felt like that was going to be my path, however we both chose to be the "captain of our own soul". I could of chose to be a stereotype and be like the majority but I decided to take my life into my own hands Get more content on HelpWriting.net
