information for
employers
Why should I take on globally
trained applicants?
What does it take to become
a host organisation?
Eligibility criteria
for applicants
What are my employer
obligations?
How much are applicants
typically paid?
There are a number of great
benefits to you in employing a
suitable Applicant undertaking the
Australian Skills Shortages Program.
Cost-Effective Solution:
Our staffing solution ensures an
incredibly cost-effective method in
employing qualified, experienced and
motivated candidates that meet the
staffing requirements of your business.
Access a Global Pool of Candidates:
We work with Skilled Agencies across
the globe and match your requirements
with the right candidates.
Committed Employees:
Applicants work a minimum of 30 hours per
week and are often the most motivated and
committed employees of the workforce.
Staffing Certainty:
The program offered by Staffing
Solutions Australia is registered for up to
24 months. You’ll know with confidence
that this staff member isn’t leaving, which
will help you gain some predictability
with staffing requirements.
Increase Workplace Diversity:
Workplaces that host individuals from
different backgrounds, cultures and
experiences tend to be more innovative
and creative. They are often seen as
employers of choice.
Applicants must meet the
following requirements:
»» Be 18 years of age or over
»» Have recent and suitable experience
or have completed studies
(in Australia) to a Diploma level or
higher within the past 12 months.
»» Meet health and character
requirements and maintain
health cover
»» Have appropriate English language
skills to undertake the training
»» Hold a minimum of Diploma
or higher level qualification
(where the application is based
on study experience)
»» Have proof of academic
requirements for the program
»» Have strong knowledge
of your industry
»» Be flexible and willing to
work in a variety of areas
»» Be flexibile and willing to work
in rural and remote locations
Organisations that are diverse,
committed to quality training and have
staff with training experience are ideal.
Organisations should be capable of
providing adequate supervision and must
also provide a safe working environment.
As a host organisation it is
your responsibility to:
»» Treat the applicants as though
they are one of your employees by
providing a safe working environment
and ensure safe work practices
are adhered to in the workplace
»» Define the jobs, tasks and roles
that the applicant will undertake
as part of their program
»» Ensure the supervising staff have the
right skills to manage the applicant
»» Communicate well and develop
a rapport with the applicant
»» Provide the applicant with an
opportunity to try new things
and develop their skills
»» Allow time for the applicant
to practise new skills
»» Motivate, watch, coach,
praise and ask questions
»» Communicate with Staffing Solutions
Australia promptly should any
issues arise with the applicant
Applicants work on a full-time basis and
must work a minimum of 30 hours per
week. On average applicants are paid an
hourly rate from $20, though it does vary
depending on the organisation, industry
and hours worked.
