and one of them is Iceland.

• The ocean was Iceland´s lifeline
to other countries.
• There were about 14 harbors
around Iceland.

countries, like Norway, Britain,
France, Danmark and Germany.
• Story telling came from Ireland.
• Book making, art and
Christianity came from England
and mainland Europe.
• Icelanders exported literature
to Norway. Mainly stories
about Norwegian kings.
8. The
bay battle
• The bay battle was the
only sea battle in Iceland
where Icelanders were in
both teams.
• The battle took place in
1244.
• In one team there were 15
boats and 200 men.
• In the other team there
were 20 boats and 450
men.
9. Fisheries
• Fishing has always been
important in Iceland.
• The best fishing grounds are at
the west part of the country.
• To own many boats made people
rich.
• Fish has always been an
important export product.
