3. How we use
our energy
• Everyone in Iceland has access to hot and cold
water. Most homes in Iceland have both
running hot and cold water. We use the hot water to
warm our houses and take showers. About 90
percent go to home heating but about 10 percent to
bath, shower, cleaning and dishwashing.
5. The weather in Iceland
The weather in Iceland is extremely changeable. We can all types of
weather at a single day.
In summer the temperature can go up to 20°-25°c. We have long
summer days and nights.
But in winter the temperature can go down to more than -15°c. Its very
dark during the worst winter months.
8. Rivers and waterfalls
Rivers in Iceland are
big and long and
many of them flow
from glaciers.
LThe longest river
is 230 km long.
One of the most popular
natural wonders in Iceland are
waterfalls and many tourist visit
them.
Dettifoss is the most powerfull
waterfall in Europe.
The highest waterfall in Iceland
is almost 200m high.
Seljalandsfoss is one of the
most beautiful waterfall in
Iceland. It´s possible to walk
behind it.
9. Lakes
• Lakes cover about 2,7% of
the surface of Iceland.
• Þingvallarvatn is the largest
natural lake in Iceland. It´s as
well a national park.
10. Glaciers
• Glaciers cover about 11% of
Icelands surface.
• There are 13 glaciers in Iceland.
The average height is 1640 m.
• Vatnajökull is the biggest glacier
in Iceland. It´s highest peak is
2114 m.
