Our village is famous for the
delicious cheese, traditionally
made in our region.
And that's not the only
famous thing in Alcains! The
president of Portugal, from
1976 to 1986, Ramalho Eanes,
is from Alcains!
Despite being a small
village, Alcains is home to
major professional masons,
being this the oldest and
traditional profession of the
region.

The region of Beira Interior is
located in the center of Portugal,
between the Douro river to the north
and the Tejo river to the south,
bordering East with neighboring
Spain.
Beira Interior consists of Beira Alta
with the city of Guarda as district
capital, and Beira Baixa with the city
of Castelo Branco as district capital.

Serra da Estrela is the highest mountain in Beira
Interior and in mainland Portugal.
Wind farm in Sobreira Formosa, Proença-a-
Nova.
The fortress of Almeida, built during the Restoration
War and surrounded during the French Invasions, is
one of the most spectacular in the Iberian
Peninsula.
Cathedral of Guarda, one of the most imposing
cathedrals in Portugal.
