CoSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA® DIVISION II SOFTBALL TEAM
AUSTIN, Texas – Senior pitcher Carley Tysinger of Catawba College headlines the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-
America® Division II Softball team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Tysinger has been selected as the recipient of the Academic All-America® of the Year award for Division II
softball.
The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national
governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2015-16 Division II
Academic All-America® teams program.
A chemistry major, Tysinger has a 3.72 G.P.A., she is now a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America® selection
after earning third team honors a year ago.
A native of Lexington, North Carolina, she led Catawba to a 39-16 record and a berth in the NCAA Southeast
Regional as the fourth seed. The Catawba Indians won their second straight South Atlantic Conference
championship as Tysinger was named the Tournament MVP for the second consecutive season, winning four
games and striking out 37 in 35 innings.
Tysinger set a Catawba season record for wins, ending with a 32-11 record with a 1.04 ERA, with 40 complete
games and 10 shutouts. That included a no-hitter against Brevard College. She set school and SAC records with
413 strikeouts. In 297 innings, she allowed just 197 hits and 65 walks while holding opponents to a .181 average.
She is fifth in NCAA Division II in wins, seventh in strikeouts per seven innings (9.73), and eighth in shutouts. Her
1.04 ERA ranks 11th in the nation, while her 4.63 hits per seven innings is 18th.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America® honor is the latest in a long line for the standout pitcher. She was named
an NFCA second team All-American and D2CCA second team All-American recently, She was named to an All-
America team in each of her four seasons. As a junior, she was an honorable mention CCA selection, after
earning third team NFCA All-American accolades as a sophomore and third team Daktronics All-American
honors as a freshman. Tysinger was also voted the SAC Pitcher of the Year in 2015 and 2016.
Tysinger finished her career with a 102-41 record with 1,355 strikeouts. She holds Catawba career records for
wins and strikeouts while ranking eighth in NCAA Division II in strikeouts.
Eighteen of the 33 members of the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-America® NCAA Division II softball teams have
at least a 3.90 G.P.A., including eight student-athletes who maintain a perfect 4.00 G.P.A. The 11 members of
the first team have an average G.P.A. of 3.85, as does the average for all three teams.
Tysinger is joined by three other repeat performers on the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-America® NCAA Division
II softball teams. Elayna Siebert of Carson-Newman University earned first team honors for the second straight

2. year. East Central University’s Autumn Suydam moved up from the 2015 third team to a spot on the first team,
while Peyton Roth of Armstrong State University was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® third team
for the second straight year.
Siebert, a senior infielder from Knoxville, Tennessee, is an accounting major with a 3.97 G.P.A. She was recently
voted the South Atlantic Conference Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She helped the Eagles to a 30-21
record while hitting a team-leading .383 with four home runs and 36 RBI.
A three-time All-SAC selection and all-region selection, Siebert was named a first-team All-American as a utility
player during her junior year. As a senior, Siebert made the All-SAC first team for the third time in her career,
but the first as a second baseman. She was a first team utility player as a freshman and junior. She also was
accorded second team NFCA All-Region honors in 2016, after earning first team honors a year ago.
Siebert finished her career with 115 RBI, 22 home runs, 31 doubles and a .365 average at the plate. She is tied
for eighth all-time in SAC history with 14 triples.
Suydam is a criminal justice major with a 4.00 G.P.A. An outfielder from Keller, Texas, she was first team All-
Great American Conference selection, earning all-conference honors for the third time. She was a second team
choice as a sophomore and honorable mention pick as a junior. She was also named to the 2016 D2CCA All-
Central Region second team.
She finished her senior season with a .399 batting average, ranking second in the GAC. She also ranked first in
fielding percentage (1.000), second in sacrifice bunts (17), sixth in stolen bases (24), 11th in on-base percentage
(.426), and in hits (61).
Roth is a senior infielder from Fayetteville, Georgia. A health & physical education major with a 3.88 G.P.A., she
helped Armstrong State to an outstanding run in the NCAA Division II Tournament. The Lady Pirates, ranked
16th, made their deepest postseason run before falling to Humboldt State University, 6-2 May 20 in the semifinals.
That wrapped up a 43-15 campaign.
She owned a team-high .363 batting average while also leading the Lady Pirates in hits (69), runs (45), and
stolen bases (19). Roth earned second team D2CCA All-Southeast Region honors and was also a second team
All-Peach Belt Conference selection at second base.
Roth was an NFCA second team All-American as a junior when she led the Peach Belt with a .446 average. She
was also a first team All-PBC pick and earned NFCA All-Southeast Region honors.
The rest of the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-America® first team includes pitcher Amber Johnson of Palm Beach
Atlantic University, catcher Dee Espinosa of Barry University, infielders Breanna Martini of Adelphi University,
Southeastern Oklahoma State University’s Jessica Simmons, and Kat Zabielski of New York Institute of
Technology, outfielders Lexie Loos of Wayne State (Neb.) College, and Concordia (Ore.) University’s Meghan
Luebbert, and designated player Ally Foster of Bellarmine University.
The 11-member second team includes pitchers Lyndsay Butler of Wayne State (Mich.) University and University
of Indianapolis’ Morgan Foley, catcher Haley Hodges of the University of Southern Indiana, infielders Harlie
Barkley of the University of North Alabama, St. Edward’s (Texas) University Samantha Gilmore, McKenzie Rice
of the University of Arkansas at Monticello, and Fairmont State University’s Sissy Stubbs, outfielders Ryann
Ferguson of Concordia University Irvine, Young Harris College’s Jeanie Perrucci, and Southern Nazarene
University’s Sam Smith, and designated player Maddie Dow of Southern Arkansas University.
In addition to Roth, the rest of the third team is comprised of pitchers Sarah Baldwin of Northwest Missouri State
