BERKLEY WHALEY OF TAMPA LEADS COSIDA
ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA® DIVISION II VOLLEYBALL TEAM
AUSTIN, Texas – University of Tampa senior outside hitter Berkley Whaley leads the CoSIDA Academic All-
America® Division II volleyball team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America
(CoSIDA).
An advertising and public relations major with a 3.82 G.P.A., Whaley is the winner of the CoSIDA Academic All-
America® of the Year award for Division II volleyball.
The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national
governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2015-16 Division II
Academic All-America® teams program.
The reigning AVCA national Player of the Year, Whaley is a two-timefirst team Academic All-America® selection.
The D2CCASouth Region Player of the Year led the Spartans in kills (473) and points (512.5). Whaley compiled
a .305 hitting percentage with 14 service aces, 41 total blocks and 359 digs. She is a three-time Sunshine State
Conference Player of the Year who has amassed 1,350 kills and 935 digs in her UT career.
Whaley earned Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week after leading the Spartans to a pair of victories
to close out the regular season. She hit .461 on the week, committing only two attack errors in 76 swings while
averaging 5.29 kills per set. Tampa defeated SSC foes Lynn University and Nova Southeastern University during
Whaley’s award-winning week.
Ferris State senior libero Danielle Dowd makes the third team after receiving second team laurels in 2014. Both
Dowd and Whaley helped their respective teams make the NCAA Division II Volleyball Championship. The
Manhattan, Illinois, native helped the Bulldogs advance to the Midwest Regional championship match before
falling to Rockhurst University. Ferris State completed the 2015 campaign 33-3 overall.
Dowd saw action in 36 of 36 Ferris State matches with 125 sets played. She posted 577 digs and 64 service
aces. Dowd recorded a season-high 35 digs in a huge Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference road
victory at Grand Valley State University Nov. 3. She had 25 digs against Missouri WesternState University Sept.
4. Dowd was named to the Ferris State Volleyball Invitational all-tournament team on Sept. 5. She holds a 3.84
G.P.A. with her nursing major.
In addition to Whaley, the first team includes junior Katy Davis of the University of Central Oklahoma, senior
Krista Haslag of Missouri University of Science and Technology, senior Katie MacLeay of Angelo State
University, senior Annie Reilly of the University of Central Missouri, and senior Alexandra Torline of California
State University, San Bernardino.
The six CoSIDA Academic All-America® first team members hold a composite 3.88 cumulative G.P.A. with Davis
and MacLeay each checking in with a perfect 4.00 G.P.A.

of West Florida, junior Riley Hanson of Concordia (Minn.) University, St. Paul, senior Whitney Kostal of
Rockhurst, senior Iona Lofrano of California State University, Los Angeles, senior Rebekah Phelps of the
University of Montevallo, and junior Leanna Willer of Washburn University.
In addition to Dowd, the third team includes senior Jaci Buscher of Bentley University, junior Alyssa Carneyof
Washburn, junior Alli Cudworth of Ashland University, junior Kaley Pittsley and senior Morgan Seybold of
Clarion University, senior Faith Rohn of Palm Beach Atlantic University, and senior ShelleyStumpff of Wingate
University.
In addition to Davis and MacLeay, Phelps, Carney and Pittsley each has a perfect 4.00 G.P.A. The CoSIDA
Academic All-America® Division II volleyball team members are performing at a high level in the classroom and
on the court, as 15 of the 20 student-athletes helped their teams reach the NCAA Division II Volleyball
Championship. Kostal and Rohn will lead their respective teams to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight later this
week in Tampa.
