in a lift which is quite a unusual way
of approaching a music video, which
is typical of an indie band as other
indie bands have unusual locations to
do their performances .

Indie Band. The video I will wait
, shows them performing in front
of a live audience which is not
unusual to see in the indie genre
; some videos can be filmed at a
festival or a gig.

Use of a two shot within the narrative of
this music video shows the stereotypical
view on Indie music to be about
relationships of young people.
A grainy effect is used to connote the past
of the narrative story, giving the viewer a
perspective of the couples’ history.
The setting of the school can link in to the
younger audience, as it’s a place their
familiar with.

storyline and performance.

connect the illustrational video with
reality. Therefore defining the meaning

The room they perform in is to show a
relaxed atmosphere, which connotes
the style of music which is acoustic
based.
6. Representation, ideologies and values
The representation of Indie as a genre is shown to be
quite relaxed which conveys the kind of music it is. The
indie genre usually represents relationships or
drugs, either being in the lyrics or how the band
members look in the music videos. This connotes the
‘indie style ’ and ideas that it has. In the videos the band
members clothes has ideologies that link to this as the
costumes are quite rough but casual. The actions in indie
performances are also quite flowing and soft rock
movements which slows with the music. These values of
clothes and performance based ideas in indie bands are
usually mostly the same in a performance based video.
