video-performance
This Still from out final music video shows a mid-shot of the band
performing the song. Performance is a convention used in many
music video’s of the indie rock genre. By having the main artist in
front of the two guitarists this shot allows the viewer to see the
band perform the song as if it was live but keeps the main
attention on the lead singer.
this is another example of a performance still from our
music video. This time it is a close up of the lead singer
drawing the attention to him, however a guitarist can
also be seen in the background. These examples give
the impression that the song is being sung live.

3. Conventions of an indie rock music
video- instruments
Emphasis on the instruments played in the song is a
convention of a indie rock music video, not only does it
give the band a chance to “show off” their skills, it also
links in with the performance convention that gives the
impression that the band are playing live. This still from
our music video is a close up of a guitarist playing his
guitar.
Our music video only includes two types of
guitar, whereas a professional music video is
likely to include a variety of music videos that are
used in the song, such as a drum kit.

video-costumes
The costumes used in a indie rock music video are
important, the artist can either follow the fashions
of people within that genre or start their own trends
which the viewers will follow. This still is the female
in our music video, although she isn’t in the band
she is still wearing indie styled clothing, this ways
the viewers of the video can relate.
The costumes worn in an indie rock music video
often have links with music or other bands, this
still shows the main artist wearing a T-shirt that
refers to music. This is a way for the artist to
express their love for what they do.

video- setting
The setting for the performance scenes in our
music video is a basic outdoor scene. It is
plain and doesn’t direct the attention of the
audience away from the artists. A convention
of indie rock music videos is to have a basic
setting during the performance scenes
The setting for the story line of our music video
was an urban street location. Another
convention of an indie rock music video is to
include street scenes that make the audience
relate to the artists.
The stills either side are from
professional music videos from the
indie rock genre, one shows the
convention of the band performing in a
plain location that directs all the
audiences attention to the artist. The
other still shows the artist walking
through a street location.
6. Conventions of an indie rock music
video- Mise-en-scene
Mise-en-scene is a large part of an indie rock
music video, for the scene where our artist
is in his house, we included guitars in the
background which links with the genre of
the music video. It gives the impression to
the audience that the artist is “all about the
music”.
In this scene we also showed a guitar in the
back ground, this repetition brings attention
to the fact that the artist lives a life that
revolves around the genre, this will build a
positive star persona because the audience
will appreciate that the artist is passionate
about the genre of music they like.

are fashionable with people within the
indie rock genre, this shows the audience
that he follows the trends of the indie
rock genre and builds his star persona.
