Interior design is a profession a career a vocation and a life style. It is
important to have a clear idea of what interior design involves as well
as appreciation of its demands the combination of personal attributes
and interest that a professional interior designer needs.
Interior design give you the information tools to use in your work
problem solving skills being perhaps the most valuable tool of all
interior design demands a amount of ongoing research. It is a
responsible designer new product, specifications, new laws and
regulations and changes in building
Interior design is all about how we experience spaces, it is a powerful
essential part our daily lives and affects how we live, work, play and
even heal comfortable homes, functional, workplaces, interior design
at work
Interior design apply creative and technical solution within a structure
that are functional attractive and benefits to the occupants quality of
life culture. Design respond to and coordinate with the building shell
and acknowledge.
the interior design process follows a systematic and coordinate
methodology. Interior design work by nature requires that practice it
learn to temper this innate idealism with the practical demand of
reality. It is design for real people in the real world.
Interior design is about more than just aesthetics. It about finding
creative design solutions for interior environment while supporting
the health, safety and enhancing their quality of life.
Interior designers get different profession opportunities , the style of
work , which one is superior , a sets a personal goal in carrier. Interior
design very much in demand. A building is not only a very costly
resource to acquire but world need equal a costlier effect dispose it.
INTRODUCTION OF INTERIOR DESIGN
Interior products include everything used and house in an interior
space like furniture and furnishing fixtures and fitting , equipment etc.
interior and building compounds are no longer considered to be
passive parts but have an active and participation role.
Interior designers have a variety of fields to the skills interior designers
also work in many parallel fields such a computer making plan,
prototypes production of interior parts and components maintenance
person for interior spaces and interior design related to concepts and
administrator for interior related management aspects.
Interior design studies about the space and its surrounding influence
on it , like orientation of the space .day light ventilation , HVAC
depending on the personality of the space .those then lend to
development of the structural features of the building as it influences
the utilization of the space.
Interior design work by nature requires that practice it learn to temper
their innate idealism with the practical demands of reality. Every
design project you undertake you must be willing to strike a balance
between what you envision as the ideal and what you can achieve a
within the project practical constraints.
Interior design the way of life and career with good practices. It is
about success with profitability.
Interior design touches many other disciplines. There is constant
interaction with all types of many different designs.

INTERIOR DESIGN
INTRODUCTION OF RESIDENTIAL DESIGN
.
The meaning of residential design is the place where we are living. It is space where a
person take rest and repose after a day hard work and wants to be charged fresh
confident for the next day. The design is creation of a plan for the construction of an
object. In short to design a house as per the specific style is residential design. All this
can be achieved if he has a house designed as per his needs that is a space that
nurtures a human being into a more efficient person this is what is interior design of
design space were a man does not adjust the house very correctly said by a very well
known designer of the le Corbusier machine for living. The designer worked on the
principle of anthropometrics and ergonomics { study of human dimensions to create
any design]
The residence design should be plan based on the needs of the person and it has been
seeing all human beings requirement and needs are to create extend similar.
Residential professionals work with private living spaces, primarily designing rooms for
new or existing homes. Some even prefer working with a specific room such as the
kitchen or planning and creating closet spaces. Planning a building is to ensure that
the different components of a building is to ensure that the different components of a
building are so arranged that the occupants can perform desired function with ease
the comfort the area available within the building is gainfully utilized. The building
required to be exposed to view.
Residential interior designer work with to create well- built that after stylish and
functional living spaces. Residential interior design include everything from the celling
to floor of a home. But the scope of each project of designers must work within each
homeowner so the space to help people understand why some building seem to feel
right while other do not. He felt that proper and considered proportions were much
more import than anything else . That restraint is superior to excess and the selection
of key to design. At the time of planning we should focus on the principles of design
and planning servant area watcher work leader etc. a living room is a place which is
called as a watcher because it is based on human being said by Louis khan

CASE STUDY
You were suppose to make a plan of a house. the land area of 50’by 60’ family of
four people and the requirement being living room , kitchen , master bedroom,
Children bedroom, space for the lady of the house to work with plants and display
of the same.
They require a terrace garden and they love more of lighted up space which are
bright up and lively.
You have to do space planning for a client. He has a family of two children . One
boy age group 15 and second girl age 13 and Mr. Boss is marketing manager and
wife who love gardening and is very fond of creating bonsai plan .

As interior designers it is very important to the orientation of the site
.the direction of sun movement fourth direction. The sun rise from
east and the color of the sun ‘s light at that time is tender yellow,
south direction completely lighted up through out the day and is the
most hot direction. The wind flows from west direction too so most of
the window should be placed in this direction. So it very important to
have the building oriented from east to west. North direction has only
sun light not actual heat rays. Place more window on south and west
as this as wind ward direction of the building .
.
ORIENTATION OF THE SITE
Climatology is the deals with to climate and changes throughout the year of
weather. Bio climatology design which aims to project the environmental and
material resources.
Marco climate of India-
-Location of India in the world northeast
Direction
-Location of India 88 to 90
-Latitude of India 8 to 37
-The whole India has a tropical monsoon
Climate the part of country lies within the tropics.
Climate has be divided into
Two parts-
1.Marco climate
2.Micro climate
We have to study the micro
Climate and macro climate
.
CLIMATOLOGY
Macro Climate
-Ajmer has a typical desert climate hot and arid
-Summer are hot within maximum temperature near 400 while the minimum is
nearly 280 c
-Longitude of Ajmer 74 0 42’north
-Latitude of Ajmer 26 27’ easto
Micro climate
Micro climate around a building taking advantage of existing topographic
Feature and vegetation for solar protection good site layout can also take grater
advantage of local breezes by the formation of air funnels and also air natural
ventilation of building layout.
The presence of water and vegetation on the site can also be used for natural
cooling. Good site layout can be cooling by natural and local breezes.
LEED CERTIFICATION
Leed or leadership in energy environmental design, is a green building
certification that recognizes best in class building to receive leed
certification .
Green building provided healthy environment . It is governed by
standards such as leadership in energy environmental design this
provide a set of measurable criteria that promotes environmentally
sustainable construction design
This system was developed by u.s green building council (USGBC)
LEED is set of rating systems for the design construction operation
and maintenace of green building
The leed rating system for areas for developed –
-Water efficiency
-Energy atmosphere
-Materials of resaurces
-Indoor environmental quality
-Innovation design process
Green Buildings
VENTILATION
Ventilation is the process by which’ clean’ air is intentionally provided to a space
and state air removed.
Ventilation is effective for cooling buildings that are properly shaded and
otherwise designed to suit local climate conditions such as air and earth
temperatures relative humidity daily and seasonal wind and breeze directions
Ventilation is needed to provided oxygen for and it also used for in good indoor air
quality. The general purpose of ventilation in building is to provide healthy air for
diluting the pollutants in the building and removing the pollutants from it.
Ventilation may be defined as supply of fresh outside air into an enclosed space.
The removal of inside air from the enclosed space ventilation is removal of all
vitiated air from a building and replacement with fresh air , may be achieved
natural.
Ventilation divided two categories-
1. Natural ventilation 2. mechanical ventilation
NATURAL VENTILATION - natural ventilation is the one in which ventilation is
effected by the elaborated use of door , windows , ventilation and skylight.
It is economical since no equipment is required for keeping the room ventilation
In a room air exchange takes place minimum 1 time and maximum 60 time.
the natural ventilation depends on two facts-
Wind effect
stack effect
MECHANICAL VENTILATIONS –
can a window wall or installed in air dust for
supplying air from a room ventilation depends upon climate is easily to air
conditioning the indoor air temperature and humidity can also be controlled.
BIO CLIMATE DESIGN
.
bio climate approaches to architecture offer a way to design for long term and
sustainable use of environmental and material resources . The term bioclimatic
design implies design which aims to protect the environmental and natural
resources .
Bio climate design based on the natural flows of energy in around the building
created by the interaction of sun wind precipitation, vegetation temperature
humidity in the air ground . Bio climate approaches to design attempt to create
comfort conditions in building . By understanding the microclimate and resulting
design. Bio climate design was enlarged to include landscape , water and waste
nutrient recovery.
Bio climate design passive systems operate without mechanical pats or additional
power supply and naturally warm and cool buildings. They are divided into three
categories-
-Passive solor heating system
-Passive natural coolingtechniquies
-System and day light techinques
Exterior air flow
Conduction with air
Interior air flow
Conduction w/ ground
The bioclimatic design of a building requires the simultaneous and coordinate
operation of all the system so that thermal and visual benfitscan be combined
throughout of year
Bio climatic strategies can be defines-
Conduction- from hotter object to cooler object contact.
Convection- from the air film next to a hotter object by exposure to cooler
object by direct control
Radiation – from hotter object to cooler object within the direct view of each
other regardless of the temperature of air between
Thermal storage- from heat charge and discharge both diurnally and
seasonally a function of its specific heat weight and conductivity.
The strategies can be set forth as-
-Minimize conductive heat flow
-Deeply periodic eat flow
-Minimize infuriation
-Provided thermal storage
-Minimize external air flow
-Promote ventilation
-Promote evaporate cooling
In winter the objectives of bioclimatic design are to resist loss of heat from
the building envelope and to promote of solar heat. In summer are the
reverse to solar gain heat from the building interior.
DAY LIGHT
Day light design space to use as much natural light as possible .
Light is important of any other house
day light can be employed to conserve energy and can enhance visibility . The
value of day light are more intangible. The day light effective internal light.
Used for day light in building –
Aesthetics- the light windows on surface and texture casting
interesting shadows. the endless variety of mood and appearnces
movement on the sun
Psychological response – they sense of well being associated with
day light and orientantion that cones with connected exterior
Health- imoproved resistance to intection skin disoraders and
cardiovascular impairmaent
Energy cost – reduction in electric use and related air conditioning
load from electric lighting .
Benefits of day light
-It prevents rickets helps keep the skin in a healthy conditions , is
responsible for the production of vitamin D And it destroys germs
-The evidence of adesire by most people for the some direct sun is
strong
-Mirror can be used illusion in room and good day light practice
-The presence of direct sunshine in the interior environment is one of
the strongest psyhchological benefits.
Topography refer to the configuration to surface features of a plot of land
which influences where and devolve a site, to study the response of a building
design to the topography of a site we can use a series to site sections or a site
plan with contour lines.
Contour lines are imaginary lines joining points of equal elevation above a
datum or beach mark. The trajectory of each contour lines indicates the space
of the land formation at that elevation. Not that contour lines are always
continuous and never cross one another they conidia in a plan view only when
they cut across a vertical surface.
For aesthetic and economic as well as ecological reasons the geranial intent in
developing a site should be to minimize the disturbance of exiting landforms
and features while taking advantage of natural ground slopes and the
microclimate of the site

Landscaping can improve the microclimate in both summer and
winter providing shading evaporate cooling and winter channeling
in summer or shelter in winter. Vegetation absords large amounts of
solar radiation in summer help to keep the air and ground beneath
cool white everpotranspiration can future reduce temperature
Landscaping
WINDOWS
A Windows may be defined as an opening made in a wall for the purpose of
providing day light vision and ventilation .window consists of a window frame and
shutter. The frame consists of two vertical members called jambs. normally
provided with two leaves .the selection of sizes, shape location and number of the
windows to be provided in a room
depends upon the follow considerations.
-Sizes of room be lighted
-Location of the room and its utility
-Direction of wind and speed
-Climatic consideration of the site such as humidity, temperature -variation etc
Many types of windows -
windows
A door may be defend as a framework of wood, steel, aluminium, glass or a
combination of this material secured in an opening left in a wall for the
purposes of providing access to the user of the structures. It basically consists of
tow parts I.e.
1] A FRAME WORK
2] STUTTER
The frame is normally made up of timber. This is on account of the fact timber is
easily available everywhere and it can be worked into different shape without
difficulty.hoewere economy is the are generally used. Steel or R.C.C framework
are also recommended in construction on sites inferred with termites.
For small opening a door is provides with ne
leaf or Sutter and such a door is known a SINGLE LEAF DOOR . In case of wider
opening the door should have two leaves and such a door is termed as DOUBLE
LEAF DOOR.
LOCATION OF DOORS:- The following guidelines should be kept in view while
deciding the location of doors in a building:-
1] From consideration of adequate air circulation within the room, the doors
should be provided in opposite walls facing each otter.
2] From consideration of proper space utilization and privacy, doors should as
for as possible be location near the corner of a room .
3] The location of the door should meet the functional requirements of the
room.
DOORS
DOORS
STAIRS
A stair may be defined as series of steps suitably arranged for the
purpose of connecting different floors of a building . It may be defined
arrangement of treads , risers, stringers, newel posts so designed and
construction as to provided an easy and quick access to the different
floors, rendering comfort and safety to the user.
Location of stairs
Stairs in building requires careful consideration in the advent of fire or
any such calamity stairs provide the only means of communication
and as such they are so located as to serve the purpose for which they
are provided. In public building should be located near the main
entrance and in residential building it should be placed centrally so as
to provided easy access from all the room and the main privacy at the
same time

ANTHROPOMETRICS
Anthropometrics is a study of human dimension to human body
developing or creating a will not end up in the comfort zone for a
client
These dimension need to be considered for the following categories –
male , female , child , teenagers old ages and handicapped.
ERGONOMICS
Ergonomic is the scientific discipline concerned with the understanding
of interactions among human and other elements of a system and
profession that applies theory , principle , data and methods to design in
order to optimize human well being and overall system performance

UNIVERSAL DESIGN
universal design makes designer; user and building owner more sensitive to improve
the long term quality and long team quality is improved by designing for reduced
accidents and people of all ages ; sizes and capacities and increase the working
efficiency of the environment they live.
ACCESSIBLE DESIGN -IS THAT STANDARDS ALLOW PEOPLE WITH DISABILITY TO
Enjoy a level of environment and products.
They physical implications of these broad groups of building condition
understanding the criteria the building code and standards.
Sensory impairments- this vision , hearing and speech impairments include
total and partial loss and design recommendation for redundancy for example – rain
forcing both lighting and circulation cues.
Dexterity impairments- this include people with limitation and use of their
hands and fingers and suggest the closed first rule testing selection of equipment
controls and hardware by operating it with a closed first
Mobility impairments- this include people who use walker crutches cones and
wheelchairs those have difficult climbing here.
Universal design
PLANNING CONSIDERATION
To design any residential area proper planning and brain storming need to be done.
The planning phase of residential is the most important face this leed to be
developed of structure of the house based on the shape and form . While doing
planning we should consider some points like landscaping, climatology, orientation,
ventilation before planning residential design we should study about elements and
principle of design.
During planning process we have many factor that are to be kept in mind such as
aspect, prospect and space planning . The design has to be functional so that the
person can feel the space express his self at the same time enjoy the space . In
planning process we should follow these –
 Principal of planning
 Orientation
 Building bye lows
 Louis Kahn principle
1) principle of planning-
A) Aspect – Aspect means the peculiarity of the arrangement of doors and windows
in the external wall of a building which permit the occupants to enjoy the gifts of
nature vise sun, breeze, outside sensory etc. aspect gains special significance in
case of residential building. It helps in providing hygienic conditions in the room
as the sun rays destroy the insects and also impart cheerful living condition in the
room.
B) Prospect – Prospect is the term used to highlight the architectural treatment
given to the building so as to make it aesthetically pleasing from occupants are
able to enjoy the desired outside views from certain rooms. Both aspect as well
as prospect demand proper disposition of doors and windows in the external wall
at particular space and in particular manner Lighthouse.
C) Circulation – Circulation means internal through fares or access provided in a room
or on the same floor. There are two types of circulation
I. Horizontal circulation
II. Vertical circulation
passage, halls and lobbies perform the function of circulation on the same floor, such
provision are termed as horizontal circulation . On the other hand , stairs, lifts,
ramps, etc. which serve the purpose of providing means of access between different
floors get covered under the category of the term vertical circulation.
2) Orientation –
Orientation of a building is the term used to define the setting or fixing the direction
of the layout plan of a building . Before start any planning we should consider the
orientation point . Orientation means the study of direction east, west, north and
south . By orientation before starting any planning process with the help of compass
we get the diversion E, W, N, S. During planning with the help of orientation following
point can fix the direction .
I. Entrance
II. Living room, bed room, kitchen
III. Water body
IV. Door and window placement according to sun light
Thus whenever do space planning , firstly looking the site direction.
3) Building bye lows –
Building bye lows consists of certain rules and regulation framed by a municipal or
town planning or urban development board to control the development of area
under its jurisdiction. Building bye lows prevents construction of buildings in a
haphazard manner. The building which are planned based on bye lows are
comfortable to live in, have proper light and ventilation and are safe. The various
aspect of building activities covered by the bye lows is summarized as under :
1) Distance from electric lines
2) Lines of building frontages
3) Open space within a plot
4) built up area limitations
5) Lighting and ventilation of rooms
6) Parking spaces
7) Fire protection requirements
Every human being has a different personality . Their personality differently in
different environment or with different people consider a space as a person every
Leader- a person with leader quality attracts people to follow as the tern the space

PRINCIPLE OF DESIGN
The principle are concepts used to organize or arrange the structural
elements of design . Again the way in which these principles are applied
affects the expressive content, or the massage of the work.
The principles are :
• Balance
• Proportion
• Rhythm
• Emphasis

The sun rise from east and the color of the sun ‘s light at that time is tender yellow, south direction completely lighted up through out the day and is the most hot direction. The wind flows from west direction too so most of the window should be placed in this direction. So it very important to have the building oriented from east to west. North direction has only sun light not actual heat rays. Place more window on south and west as this as wind ward direction of the building . . ORIENTATION OF THE SITE

  • 26. VENTILATION Ventilation is the process by which’ clean’ air is intentionally provided to a space and state air removed. Ventilation is effective for cooling buildings that are properly shaded and otherwise designed to suit local climate conditions such as air and earth temperatures relative humidity daily and seasonal wind and breeze directions Ventilation is needed to provided oxygen for and it also used for in good indoor air quality. The general purpose of ventilation in building is to provide healthy air for diluting the pollutants in the building and removing the pollutants from it. Ventilation may be defined as supply of fresh outside air into an enclosed space. The removal of inside air from the enclosed space ventilation is removal of all vitiated air from a building and replacement with fresh air , may be achieved natural. Ventilation divided two categories- 1. Natural ventilation 2. mechanical ventilation NATURAL VENTILATION - natural ventilation is the one in which ventilation is effected by the elaborated use of door , windows , ventilation and skylight. It is economical since no equipment is required for keeping the room ventilation In a room air exchange takes place minimum 1 time and maximum 60 time. the natural ventilation depends on two facts- Wind effect stack effect
  • 27. MECHANICAL VENTILATIONS – can a window wall or installed in air dust for supplying air from a room ventilation depends upon climate is easily to air conditioning the indoor air temperature and humidity can also be controlled.
  • 28. BIO CLIMATE DESIGN . bio climate approaches to architecture offer a way to design for long term and sustainable use of environmental and material resources . The term bioclimatic design implies design which aims to protect the environmental and natural resources . Bio climate design based on the natural flows of energy in around the building created by the interaction of sun wind precipitation, vegetation temperature humidity in the air ground . Bio climate approaches to design attempt to create comfort conditions in building . By understanding the microclimate and resulting design. Bio climate design was enlarged to include landscape , water and waste nutrient recovery. Bio climate design passive systems operate without mechanical pats or additional power supply and naturally warm and cool buildings. They are divided into three categories- -Passive solor heating system -Passive natural coolingtechniquies -System and day light techinques Exterior air flow Conduction with air Interior air flow Conduction w/ ground
  • 29. The bioclimatic design of a building requires the simultaneous and coordinate operation of all the system so that thermal and visual benfitscan be combined throughout of year Bio climatic strategies can be defines- Conduction- from hotter object to cooler object contact. Convection- from the air film next to a hotter object by exposure to cooler object by direct control Radiation – from hotter object to cooler object within the direct view of each other regardless of the temperature of air between Thermal storage- from heat charge and discharge both diurnally and seasonally a function of its specific heat weight and conductivity. The strategies can be set forth as- -Minimize conductive heat flow -Deeply periodic eat flow -Minimize infuriation -Provided thermal storage -Minimize external air flow -Promote ventilation -Promote evaporate cooling In winter the objectives of bioclimatic design are to resist loss of heat from the building envelope and to promote of solar heat. In summer are the reverse to solar gain heat from the building interior.

Topography refer to the configuration to surface features of a plot of land which influences where and devolve a site, to study the response of a building design to the topography of a site we can use a series to site sections or a site plan with contour lines. Contour lines are imaginary lines joining points of equal elevation above a datum or beach mark. The trajectory of each contour lines indicates the space of the land formation at that elevation. Not that contour lines are always continuous and never cross one another they conidia in a plan view only when they cut across a vertical surface. For aesthetic and economic as well as ecological reasons the geranial intent in developing a site should be to minimize the disturbance of exiting landforms and features while taking advantage of natural ground slopes and the microclimate of the site Topography

  • 61. PLANNING CONSIDERATION To design any residential area proper planning and brain storming need to be done. The planning phase of residential is the most important face this leed to be developed of structure of the house based on the shape and form . While doing planning we should consider some points like landscaping, climatology, orientation, ventilation before planning residential design we should study about elements and principle of design. During planning process we have many factor that are to be kept in mind such as aspect, prospect and space planning . The design has to be functional so that the person can feel the space express his self at the same time enjoy the space . In planning process we should follow these –  Principal of planning  Orientation  Building bye lows  Louis Kahn principle 1) principle of planning- A) Aspect – Aspect means the peculiarity of the arrangement of doors and windows in the external wall of a building which permit the occupants to enjoy the gifts of nature vise sun, breeze, outside sensory etc. aspect gains special significance in case of residential building. It helps in providing hygienic conditions in the room as the sun rays destroy the insects and also impart cheerful living condition in the room. B) Prospect – Prospect is the term used to highlight the architectural treatment given to the building so as to make it aesthetically pleasing from occupants are able to enjoy the desired outside views from certain rooms. Both aspect as well as prospect demand proper disposition of doors and windows in the external wall at particular space and in particular manner Lighthouse.
  • 62. C) Circulation – Circulation means internal through fares or access provided in a room or on the same floor. There are two types of circulation I. Horizontal circulation II. Vertical circulation passage, halls and lobbies perform the function of circulation on the same floor, such provision are termed as horizontal circulation . On the other hand , stairs, lifts, ramps, etc. which serve the purpose of providing means of access between different floors get covered under the category of the term vertical circulation. 2) Orientation – Orientation of a building is the term used to define the setting or fixing the direction of the layout plan of a building . Before start any planning we should consider the orientation point . Orientation means the study of direction east, west, north and south . By orientation before starting any planning process with the help of compass we get the diversion E, W, N, S. During planning with the help of orientation following point can fix the direction . I. Entrance II. Living room, bed room, kitchen III. Water body IV. Door and window placement according to sun light Thus whenever do space planning , firstly looking the site direction. 3) Building bye lows – Building bye lows consists of certain rules and regulation framed by a municipal or town planning or urban development board to control the development of area under its jurisdiction. Building bye lows prevents construction of buildings in a haphazard manner. The building which are planned based on bye lows are comfortable to live in, have proper light and ventilation and are safe. The various aspect of building activities covered by the bye lows is summarized as under : 1) Distance from electric lines 2) Lines of building frontages 3) Open space within a plot 4) built up area limitations 5) Lighting and ventilation of rooms 6) Parking spaces 7) Fire protection requirements

  • 72. ELEMENTS OF DESIGN The elements are components or parts which can be isolated and defined in any visual design or work of art .the elements are point- even only use it as a point of orientation in relation to the outline of the page . point can be clearly seen when we examine the serious of faces presented on the right Line- a line is a mark made by point and having psychological impact according to its direction, weight, and the variations in its direction and weight . It can act as a symbolic language and communication emotion its character and direction From and shape- form shape two dimensional and three dimensional shape depth as well as width and height. Movement- movement is the process of relocation of objects in space over time we can speak of movement as literal compositional. Pattern- pattern can be describe as a repeating unity of shape or form but it can also be thought of as the skeleton that organizes the part of a composition Texture - is the quality of objects which we sense thought touch. Creation of the illusion of texture is also an important elements in many paintings ,drawing textile designs and other surface design.
