India has several types of soil resources including black soil found in central and southern India that is very fertile for growing cotton and oilseeds, alluvial soil deposited by river flooding along the Ganges and Indus rivers ideal for growing rice and wheat, and red soil found in eastern and southern India suited to growing millets and pulses.
