Editor's Notes
Hello Folks, Welcome.
This presentation provides a high level overview of the topics and the format of the tests.
A-C-T has 4 sections.
There is a 10 min break after 2 sections.
S-A-T has 4 sections including the essay.
There are two breaks: 10 minutes & 5 minutes.
Writing and grammar section is divided into 2 broad categories.
Usage and organization.
Organization has questions related to structure, transition and sequence of the passage.
Reading section contains long passages with 8 to 12 questions each.
These are categorized as global, inference, evidence based and vocabulary.
Math questions fall in one of the main 4 categories.
Though both A-C-T and S-A-T have organized them in a slightly different manner as we shall see in following slides.
A-C-T has 6 sub topics.
Pre algebra contains basic math and probability.
Elementary algebra contains exponents, functions and other topics.
Intermediate algebra encompasses high level concepts like polynomials and inequalities.
S-A-T has their own way of organizing math topics.
Heart of algebra is the basic math including numbers and basic algebra.
Geometry is part of additional topics.
Data analysis section is much more comprehensive in S-A-T.
Each passage can have multiple questions with charts and tables along with description.
Breakdown of S-A-T data analysis section is given in next slide.
The data analysis section in s-a-t has mainly graphs and tables.
Graph based questions are based on statistics namely mean median and variance.
Table based questions are about probability or surveys.
There are 13 grid in questions in s-a-t where answers have to be written down.
S-a-t has more complicated question structure whereas a-c-t has straightforward question wording.
In order to decide between s-a-t or a-c-t students should ask :
What is their comfort level with the question types for each test?
And.
What are their strengths and weaknesses in terms of topics and subject matter?
Finally, they should attempt a full length practice test for each.
In a-c-t raw score is converted to scale score out of 36.
Average of scaled scores of all section is the final score.
A-C-T also gives a separate STEM and ELA scores to give an idea about inclination of a student.
In s-a-t raw score is converted to section score out of 800.
English reading and writing score is combined to form one score.
Every school has an acceptable range for s-a-t and a-c-t scores.
It is called 25 to 75 percentile range.
It will be beneficial if student is aware of that range for their target schools.
If they have above 50 percentile range score they have good chance to get accepted.
Please inquire about Test preparation and coaching courses at prepU.
Hands-on practice is provided for every topic.
Practice problems include actual questions asked in the exams plus any trick questions.
cheat sheets for every topic are provided.
Extensive practice for english writing and reading passages in class.
