4. Why are questions on the test sometimes
harder than those in the practice materials?
Answer: To accurately measure everyone’s understanding.
5. Why is it necessary to work with other people
to develop my understanding?
Answer: Two reasons: fellow students are at the same level
of understanding as you are, and by explaining an idea you
develop a deeper understanding of the idea.
6. How are points assigned?
Answer:Usually a 5-point scale for each questions is used,
however department exams are assigned different points based
on importance.
5 points – Full understanding of the idea and concept with correct answer.
4 points – A minor mistake in computation or implementation of the concept.
3 points – A larger computation mistake, or a basic misunderstanding of the concept.
2 points – A major computation mistake and/or a basic misunderstanding of the concept.
1 point – An attempt was made, but did not show understanding of the idea or contained
multiple computation errors.
0 points – No attempt, or an incorrect answer was provided.
7. What if I disagree with the test?
