Employer MENCAP, Northern Ireland
Position Project Manager
My most challenging role to date, I was employed as the Project Manager responsible for the
development, build, move management and bedding down of a new £4.6m Centre for
MENCAP in Belfast housing a head office (merging two offices), community hub and
specialist nursery for children with a learning disability and their families. Under my
leadership, the project was completed on time and on budget and is now open for business.
Involving local and remote staff teams and a multiplicity of external suppliers and contractors,
this was a complex project, fully utilizing my experience, playing to my skills, and equipping
me to embrace future challenges.
Principal accountabilities included:
Successfully leading and coordinating the GB-based Property Team and NI-based
building contractors to ensure the project remained on time and on budget
Working effectively with local and national fundraising teams supporting a high profile
fundraising campaign to raise the final £1.7m to meet the funding gap required to finance
the project. This included close liaison with the chair of the appeal, Brian Ambrose, and
high net worth donors
Working with MENCAP’s Service Development team to design and implement the
children’s and young people’s services to be delivered within the new centre
Successfully leading the event management of a range of occasions involving VIP visits
by Government Ministers, celebrities and Royalty and community events specifically
designed to build relationships with the local community
2. Managing the internal and external communications strategy so that both external and
internal stakeholders were kept informed throughout the project.
Managing the move to the new building -all aspects of the transition process including
relocating 55 children with a learning disability in nursery.
