Employment history
Student Funding Co-ordinator Canterbury College 2014 to Date
Responsibilities: A member of student services, as a co-ordinator of the College’s student support Bursaries and
funds. Line Manager for a team of Funding Advisors. With responsibility in setting medium & short term priorities.
Liaising with Academic & Support staff, as well as external agencies/ individuals. Organising the internal
marketing of College support funds. Ensuring the integrity of financial data. Advising & sitting as a member of the
College Funding panel.
Principle Accountabilities: Ensuring College students are given an equal chance of completing their studies and
progressing to maximise their potential, by liaising with Safeguarding, Counselling, and Academic staff. As well as
self-referred individuals, to remove financial impediments.
Key Achievements: Streamlining of funding administration to ensure a timely & effective service. Assisting with
the development of a financial system as part of the College’s Information Database.
2. Business & Enterprise Consultant CXK Ltd (Youth Services) 2010 to 2014
Responsibilities: Key role in the schools team, as a business and enterprise specialist in the work related
learning unit. Lead advisor for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths and an external accounts manager
for over 30 schools, negotiating and managing Service level Agreements. Liaising and meeting all levels of
stakeholders. Networking with Multi Agencies, Employers and community organisations.
Principle Accountabilities: Building and managing relationships with clients, parents, young people and other
organisations to create, develop, market and sell products, packages and activities to meet the income targets of
the business. Negotiating, managing and fulfilling service level agreements/contracts with clients within agreed
parameters. Identify external funding opportunities and resources. Represent and promotion of the business and
its positive image to clients.
Key achievements: Building up a large bank of business contacts and volunteers to support my work in schools
and with young people. Developing a programme for participants to learn about how to deliver local community
projects.
Business Education Advisor/Senior Admin Assistant Kent County Council 2006 to 2010
Responsibilities: Starting as a Senior Administrative assistant responsible for the administrative function.
Quickly promoted to the role of Business Education advisor. Responsibilities were similar to those at CXK (as
above), but also included the issuing of press releases, marketing of services to schools and business
networking. Key holder for the premises.
Key achievements: Promotion to Business Education Advisor role and qualifying as a Prince2 Practitioner in
project management.
Assistant Manager Sense, The National Deaf Blind Association 2001 to 2006
Responsibilities: Part of the management team for a busy high street charity shop. Responsible for the
recruiting, training and management of a team of volunteers and paid staff, shop management, and back office
function including double entry book-keeping.
Key Achievements: Part of the management team responsible for a rise in sales of over 50% year on year.
Supervisor Brett Waste Management Services 1996 to 2001
Responsibilities: Day to day supervision of a team of 14 within a recycling facility.
Manager Annex Company 1993 to 1996
Responsibilities: Day to day management of Greyhound training facility; including premises
management/maintenance and the administration of financial and staff records.
Self Employed/Contract Manager T/A Martin the Newsagents 1989 to 1993
Responsibilities: Self-employed retail manager with responsibility for employment of all employees. Premises
management and with responsible for Employees Income Tax, Business Tax /National Insurance /VAT etc.
Key Achievements: Responsible for a sales increase of over 200% year on year.
Department Manager Allied Suppliers/Argyll Retail Group 1978 to 1989
Responsibilities: Manager of 2 departments of a high street supermarket.
