Day – 1: Orientation Session of
SWACHH BHARAT MISSION
AIM
Creating awareness on proper toileting.
Creating awareness on personal hygiene.
To improve open defecation free areas.
Improvement of sanitation facilities.
Improvement of waste management.
INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME MAINLY
FOCUSES ON:
1)Sanitation, solid and liquid waste
management (SLWM) scheme.
2)Sustainable open defecation
free(ODF) status and a cleaner
environment.

Day-2: community building
 We went to the government middle school, the school
Headmaster Mrs.Y.Revathi gave orientation about
the school. The school had strength of 203 students.
 Then Mrs. Sudha SMC president and Mrs. Kalaiselvi
gave introduction to the village. The village has a total
population of 1600 people with 637 ration card
family under one panchayat which is divided into three
parts.

Day 3 – Village survey and community
based monitoring
 The same set of students went to the APPUR village for
collecting the survey of 50 household members to
study the quality of waste water generated in the
village and we got chance to interact with many village
people on this day.
 On the same day we also did community based
monitoring (CBM). Mapping of 75 household
members to analyze the toilet usage.

Problems encountered in the
village:
 Water stagnation.
 Inadequate knowledge on solid and liquid waste management.
 Inadequate knowledge about the toilet provided by the
government.(about the cost for building the toilet)
 Defecating in the open place around the public toilet instead of using the
toilet provided.
 No street light.
Day 4 –Rallies and village survey
 On this day we 10 members from SRM COLLEGE OF
NURSING along with Mrs. Angeline Dhanalakshmi
mam, and Mrs. Irene mam, and 40 students from
middle school (26 girls and 14 boys) accompanied by 2
teachers of the school went to rallies’ on sanitation
and solid and liquid waste management around the
village.
Rally created great awareness among the public
and school students on liquid and solid waste management.
Given adequate
knowledge on
waste
management and
explained the ill
effects of
throwing waste in
the drainage.
Shop owner gave pencils as a token of
appreciation for the school children’s
involvement.
Day 5 – wall painting in school
and community area
On this day we all did wall painting with
sanitation messages, Steps of hand washing,
personal hygiene was painted in school wall.
Awareness on open air defecation was drawn
in public toilet and open air defecation area.

Tamilnadu , created and given awareness
about saving water

Day 6 – School health program
 On this day we conducted school health program to promote safe sanitation practices,
personal hygiene and toilet usage in primary and middle school.
 Awareness and interaction on poor sanitation, malnutrition and worm infestation and its
effects in children was taught to anganwadi centre.
 Pledge was taken by school children to maintain environmental sanitation.
 Hand washing technique was taught to the school students by demonstration, video
demonstration and dance.
 Steps of brushing the teeth were taught by demonstration.
 Health education on worm infestation, environmental sanitation, and personal hygiene
was taught to the students.
 Health education on menstrual hygiene was taught to adolescent girls.
 Later quiz competition was conducted on the above taught topics and prizes were
distributed.

Day 7 – School sanitation competition
and door to door visit.
 On this day we conducted school sanitation
competition. Drawing competition was conducted on
environmental sanitation and personal hygiene.
 The students actively participated and expressed their
ideas through drawing. The prizes were distributed to
the winners.
 We also went door to door visit to promote toilet usage
and waste segregation at source for 25 household
families.

Day 8 – Demonstration on solid and liquid waste
management and mass cleaning.
We demonstrated solid and liquid waste
management through a street play, and health
education. Then mass cleaning of the
community area and school cleaning was done.

Day 9 – Teaching waste management and
tree plantation
On this day we taught the community
people on setting up of waste management
and nutrition garden.
Tree plantation in community area and
school campus was done.
Street play on waste management and also
explained problems on open defecation.
Conclusion:
•We thank the collector for giving us this opportunity to interact with
the public and creating awareness to them.
• We are also thankful to SRM INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND
TECHNOLOGY, and Dr.C.Kanniammal, Dean SRM COLLEGE
OF NURSING, for giving us permission to participate in this
internship program and guiding us in successfully completing it.
• We also assure you that, for bringing some change , we have to be the
initiator of it. So we will continue the same in the places where ever we
live to create a clean and healthy India.

  • 6. Day – 1: Orientation Session of SWACHH BHARAT MISSION
  • 7. AIM Creating awareness on proper toileting. Creating awareness on personal hygiene. To improve open defecation free areas. Improvement of sanitation facilities. Improvement of waste management.
  • 8. INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME MAINLY FOCUSES ON: 1)Sanitation, solid and liquid waste management (SLWM) scheme. 2)Sustainable open defecation free(ODF) status and a cleaner environment.

  • 11. Day-2: community building  We went to the government middle school, the school Headmaster Mrs.Y.Revathi gave orientation about the school. The school had strength of 203 students.  Then Mrs. Sudha SMC president and Mrs. Kalaiselvi gave introduction to the village. The village has a total population of 1600 people with 637 ration card family under one panchayat which is divided into three parts.

Day 3 – Village survey and community based monitoring  The same set of students went to the APPUR village for collecting the survey of 50 household members to study the quality of waste water generated in the village and we got chance to interact with many village people on this day.  On the same day we also did community based monitoring (CBM). Mapping of 75 household members to analyze the toilet usage.

Problems encountered in the village:  Water stagnation.  Inadequate knowledge on solid and liquid waste management.  Inadequate knowledge about the toilet provided by the government.(about the cost for building the toilet)  Defecating in the open place around the public toilet instead of using the toilet provided.  No street light.

  • 28. Day 4 –Rallies and village survey  On this day we 10 members from SRM COLLEGE OF NURSING along with Mrs. Angeline Dhanalakshmi mam, and Mrs. Irene mam, and 40 students from middle school (26 girls and 14 boys) accompanied by 2 teachers of the school went to rallies’ on sanitation and solid and liquid waste management around the village.
  • 29. Rally created great awareness among the public and school students on liquid and solid waste management.

  • 31. Given adequate knowledge on waste management and explained the ill effects of throwing waste in the drainage.
  • 32. Shop owner gave pencils as a token of appreciation for the school children’s involvement.
  • 33. Day 5 – wall painting in school and community area On this day we all did wall painting with sanitation messages, Steps of hand washing, personal hygiene was painted in school wall. Awareness on open air defecation was drawn in public toilet and open air defecation area.

Day 6 – School health program  On this day we conducted school health program to promote safe sanitation practices, personal hygiene and toilet usage in primary and middle school.  Awareness and interaction on poor sanitation, malnutrition and worm infestation and its effects in children was taught to anganwadi centre.  Pledge was taken by school children to maintain environmental sanitation.  Hand washing technique was taught to the school students by demonstration, video demonstration and dance.  Steps of brushing the teeth were taught by demonstration.  Health education on worm infestation, environmental sanitation, and personal hygiene was taught to the students.  Health education on menstrual hygiene was taught to adolescent girls.  Later quiz competition was conducted on the above taught topics and prizes were distributed.

  • 45. Students were provided with pen, pencil, paint, and colourpencil for their participation and dedication in school health programme.
  • 46. Day 7 – School sanitation competition and door to door visit.  On this day we conducted school sanitation competition. Drawing competition was conducted on environmental sanitation and personal hygiene.  The students actively participated and expressed their ideas through drawing. The prizes were distributed to the winners.  We also went door to door visit to promote toilet usage and waste segregation at source for 25 household families.

  • 50. Day 8 – Demonstration on solid and liquid waste management and mass cleaning. We demonstrated solid and liquid waste management through a street play, and health education. Then mass cleaning of the community area and school cleaning was done.

  • 56. Day 9 – Teaching waste management and tree plantation On this day we taught the community people on setting up of waste management and nutrition garden. Tree plantation in community area and school campus was done.

Conclusion: •We thank the collector for giving us this opportunity to interact with the public and creating awareness to them. • We are also thankful to SRM INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, and Dr.C.Kanniammal, Dean SRM COLLEGE OF NURSING, for giving us permission to participate in this internship program and guiding us in successfully completing it. • We also assure you that, for bringing some change , we have to be the initiator of it. So we will continue the same in the places where ever we live to create a clean and healthy India. “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”
